Just picked up a SC300 few weeks ago and I’ve been learning a lot from you man. Thank you! My steering does feel unresponsive at times and it’s very soft and loose. Thanks for your videos! Keep them up
I’m ready for that power steering hose video....mine is leaking ..already replaced the pump....nice job....need to do this on my Camry w/260k.....clunking like crazy
About to put some Strongflex bushings on my 98 SC400. The Whiteline kit I got 3 years ago only came with the rack clamp bushing so I was still rocking factory rack bushings from 1997 lmao
Hey Edward, I hope you see this, I have a quick question. I'm about to change my bushings this weekend. Did you cut the big on that goes under the grommet or does it come cut? I haven't gotten them in yet, so I'm not sure how that part works? Thanks!
How did the steering feel before install? I’m thinking about replacing mine as well. My steering is unresponsive during a small portion of a turn. Great video bro !
Dylan Diaz thank you! It sounds like you need to replace yours too. My steering was was very loose and there was a clunking sound. I wished I recorded it, because it was pretty bad. The clunk sound went away and steering is tight now!
What made you replace that bushing? I know you said “steering feeling worn” but what exactly did you feel that made you want to do that right away? Was it just kind of sloppy? All cars have a few things that are notorious for needing replacing; i.e when I first got my GS I did the lower ball joints immediately because that a super common issue with those... is it kind of like that? Just preventative maintenance? Also, it looked pretty easy, was it just those 4 large bolts and digging the bushing out? You didn’t have to actually remove the rack or shift it around or anything did you?
Yeah this is a very easy install. 4 bolts total all 17mm if my memory serves me right. As for what I felt, worn is probably not the best word to describe it. The steering was just terrible. First there was a clunk sound from lock to lock. My guess is the rack was moving around. Also there was a slight delay in steering response kind of scary. The slight delay is usually a sign your bushings are worn, but clunk sound was really bad. All of these symptoms went away immediately after replacing these bushings! I have to do this again in my other Lexus. Steering is not as bad as this, but I noticed a huge difference In steering responses. I may go solid to give that a try.
I had my worn out factory bushings replaced about a year ago with cheap urethane ones. Pretty sure that's the main reason my SC300 rides so rough now. Thinking about buying the Strong Flex red suspension bushing kit which are urethane but are 80sha hardness which should soften the ride I hope. What do you think? I also put on Tein Flex Z coilovers, I'm sure that contributes to the hard ride too but I have a feeling a big part of it is the harder urethane bushings.
What was the outcome? I have Tein Flex Z on a gs300. Recently changed the colis from 12k front 10k rear to 8k and 6k and they are waaaay better on the road now.
@@804MRMAN Haven't changed anything, still too harsh for the roads in Colorado. But I'm planning on buying a GX460 in the next year or so and selling the SC300.
@@Edward3jr oh wow it did!!?? I just bought some poly steering bushings for my gs400 because I'm hearing a clunking sound as well, specifically when I am turning the wheel in reverse, like backing up. Hope this fixes it! I replaced the while front suspension besides struts..
@@Edward3jr thank you bro, i was able to get the horizontal one in but i had to cut the vertical one in half, it was not going in. I got superpro poly bushings and im not sure if they were the best, hadn't heard anything from them.
@@mario2jz damn, that sucks. I’m not aware of these being this much of a pain. But I’m not surprised. I’ll circle back to this again on my other sc300 and see if I run into this issue

Jason Long thank you! And congratulations on buying an sc300!
Great vid thanks for the motivation, probably not the best video in terms of audience but I appreciate you making it for us sc300 guys!
Sadly, there’s not enough sc300/sc400 videos out there. I’m just trying to do my part to share the knowledge. Thank you for watching!
You tha man for making these SC video's. Been really helpful on my build
Factory manual build too🙃

Surprisingly, I don't think my hose is leaking. I have not had issues with this, but I still have my eye on it.

Nicely done.. I had this done on my 93. Replacing the bushings w/ OEM makes one heck of a difference because the ones on Ebay are garbage.
g naka yes! Night and day difference. One of my favorite things so far because it’s quick and the bushings only cost $40

If I remember correctly, They come separated. It’s real easy to figure out. When they arrive let me know if you have any questions.

Yes and 3 years later still no more clunking

Beautiful... I love how u show what was taken out & replaced. p.s. U wk so fast... (jokes)
I am glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Can a damaged bushing cause a power steering leak? I have a slow ps leak, top off every 400-500 miles.
I suppose maybe because of vibration, it’s possible, but I’m thinking unlikely
Do u have to do alignment if replacing bushings on rack without removing the rack?
Mike Jamieson no, you should not have to, because you’re not messing with the tie rods.

wish my SC was clean like yours :(

56ftlb

I highly recommend as the first mod! it made a very noticeable difference.
Wait a second I meant first as in I commented first 😂
MintyZee 😂😂😂!!!
You should do the front and rear sway bar bushings while you’re at it. Super cheap and I’m sure they’re shot by now
This absolutely needs to be done! Thanks for the helpful tip!
230k miles? Dang, Ok i guess ill keep investing in mine at 148k 🤷♂️
Man can I get that climate control? I'd rebuild it for my junk yard project :)
