There are two national churches (as opposed to state churches): the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland (Protestant), which is the primary religion representing 65.2% of the population by the end of 2022, and the Finnish Orthodox Church, to which about 1.1% of the population belongs. Those who officially belong to one of the two national churches have part of their taxes turned over to their respective church (approximately 1-2% of income). Luckily, this keeps the churches going at a time when, in many parts of Europe, religion seems to be on a downward trajectory.
Becoming an Orthodox Christian, or even becoming a monk, not because of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom, but because of the need for stability and an affinity to a conservative life-style - an affinity that tends to be gender-specific. A distinct trend in Finnish Orthodoxy and in other local Orthodox jurisdictions that should attract the interest of sociologists of religion and requires attentive and critical theological reflection. But, most importantly, the ranks of the Church hierarchy must focus on this tendency and act according to the ecclesial ethos.
Greetings! The interviews in this video were largely cut and only emphasised on the aspects of it that sounded interesting to the journalists. These monks have made a decision of faith, not conservative politics. Consider this, if they had wanted to dedicate their lives to conservative values would they have entered a monastery in which they renounce all influence in politics? Monks are not allowed to have political agendas left or right. Always keep a critical lense to what you hear or read from the news.
@@Mikkihiiri27 Greetings! This is a valid point indeed. However, I observe some converts in the Anglosphere, including Finnland, and the identity Motivation does indeed play a role. @@mcolby7214 Christ does not simply lead us. He feeds us. He gives Himself to us in order that we are saved. He is the Road. And the goal of the Rode is He, not some kind of spiritual perfection. The encounter with Him is an event which is the Church. Hence the liturgy and the hierarchy of the Church. Nothing in Christ can happen through our individual efforts or merits only. If we seek in Church things of this world, including important and valuable things for us, such as stability, identity, traditional values, etc., we are not living the Church properly. In other words, we are using our smartphone to break walnuts.

This is not entirely true. The Slavic Orthodox are more averse to have records of themselves whereas Finns are very accustomed to it. This has lead to them not joining the official records. Unofficial estimates of unrecorded orthodox in Finland double the numbers, even triple.
New vocations are great news. But if we’re talking of only a hundred or so this is not a huge change in trend. I’ll wait for the thousands to flood before I declare the European vocation crisis over
The title is misleading. The actual fact is revealed only at the end of the clip: "only 1 percent of Finns are Christian Orthodox." Of that 1 percent, an even smaller fraction chooses to embrace monastic life.

russia (moscow) did not give us the Orthodox faith. Orthodoxy came to Finland through Kiev and Novgorod. russia didn't exist then and moscow was a small village
You heard about Holy Rus. That started in Kiev. Ukraine didn't exist before 1918. All the saints in Kievo Lavra are Russians. Read their lifes. Nobody know so called ukranian language then
Iam converting to Jesus 40 years ago. Iam still a believer. Not because of myself but God hold me in his hands.
To people outside Finland. The majority of Finnish youth is atheist and will stay like that, but the ones who are actually religious are mostly Lutheran, Orthodoxy is minority.
GOD BLESS THEM AND REMEMBER THEY ARE ORTHODOXE PRAYING FOR THE HOLE WORKD AND FOR FINLAND. ORTHODOXY ATRACTS BECAUSE IT IS THE FIRST AND THE RIGHT FAITH.
Write everything in capital letters is a sign of hysterical attitude..
Thank you JESUS MY SAVIOR 🙏
Glory to God
I chose marriage. In hindsight knowing what I now know about liberalism and it’s corrosive effects on morality and culture, given my time again I would be very enticed by the possibilities of a life completely devoted to serving God and the wonders it promises.
May God, the Theotokos, the Angels and all the Saints stand by you! God bless you and yours!
Pray for us brothers
Love and respect from Georgia!
The first seed that will bear abundant fruit!
Great strong values save society
God Bless them. When the system offers little hope for most people in the world, Christians can take refuge in devoting their lives to God.
Yes! Finally good news!
Finland can show the way of preserving and defending christianity from woke leftists and Islamists.
What the world offers is dead ends. God offers eternity in light.
A very good sign
this makes me so happy to see ❤
God bless you all
God bless you from your linguistic relatives!🇭🇺🇭🇺
There are two national churches (as opposed to state churches): the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland (Protestant), which is the primary religion representing 65.2% of the population by the end of 2022, and the Finnish Orthodox Church, to which about 1.1% of the population belongs. Those who officially belong to one of the two national churches have part of their taxes turned over to their respective church (approximately 1-2% of income). Luckily, this keeps the churches going at a time when, in many parts of Europe, religion seems to be on a downward trajectory.
This is incredible
Such a beautiful church! My last name is Hautanen.
Buddha bless everybody.
Yes, more and more people are awakening and this is most blissful.
What about Lintula nunnery?
bless the finns
From Indian Orthodox one of the oldest church
For all of us lay people, let's remember John 17:15-21.
"The saint, or disciple, or Christian lives “in the world,” but is not to be “of the world.”
And it needs proper addressing by the ecclesial hierarchy. And, I mean, even the everyday experience shows that there are far less young women attending Orthodox services than young men.
@@smilenmarkov3840 In the Anglosphere it is true that young men are becoming part of the Church in droves, but outside of the Anglosphere women make up the majority of the laity. As for why that is the case, I don't know enough to give a true answer. I've heard rumors and anecdotes at best.
What's the difference? Christ leads us to a stable ethos life
@@mcolby7214 Christ does not simply lead us.
God bless!!!
There is unfortunately only 61000 orthodox fins in the whole country, combining the Constantinople and the Moscow jurisdiction, but hopefully they will reject the Lutheran heresy and more join back into native mother Church
This is not entirely true. The Slavic Orthodox are more averse to have records of themselves whereas Finns are very accustomed to it. This has lead to them not joining the official records. Unofficial estimates of unrecorded orthodox in Finland double the numbers, even triple.
It’s not unfortunately, it’s very fortunate that most people aren’t religious.
@@Commentator488 Most people are religious

Depends where, the more religious the more bad for living
Good for them! Glory to God❤
New vocations are great news. But if we’re talking of only a hundred or so this is not a huge change in trend. I’ll wait for the thousands to flood before I declare the European vocation crisis over
I never understood what internal drive in women makes them seek every opportunity to destroy their own worth.
Most Western women's minds have been highjacked. That is not sustainable. Reality will eventually hit.
Glory to God ☦️
The Monasteries are the strongholds of the Church.
Awesome ✝️
I visited the new Valamo monastery in the summer. it was very beutiful.
If only Catholicism/Orthodoxy allows men above 35 yrs old choosing a monastic life.
The monastery has many such monks who joined in their middle age. It is not age restricted in orthodoxy, at least.
Ortodoxy allows
Worst ad for convincing people to move to Finland.
The title is misleading. The actual fact is revealed only at the end of the clip: "only 1 percent of Finns are Christian Orthodox." Of that 1 percent, an even smaller fraction chooses to embrace monastic life.
They don’t commit to religion But to the Lord Jesus Christ.
The modern alternative, the modern way to live doesnt interess peoples from middle class which have renunced to be bearer of the spirituality in order to choose the "material race"
we need nuns as well, recently a famous greek influencer became a nun
many years!
