Everyone's karma is different. When conditions ripen, individual consequences come. Thus, commendable that you have a good intention in life to look forward to. Nobody (no human) actually knows what will happen to you and speak for you or about you in twenty year's time. Importantly, you know a positive seed is already planted in your mind, in wanting to be ordained. "Sadhu" [Factually, one of Buddha's disciples was ordained when he was aged.] Thus, do not be disheartened by the opposing views of others. Take care of your health now, make plans and take actions as you see opportunities coming.
Do it now, maybe for a week or a month or so, to try if you enjoy or not because it is not easy being a forest monk and especially nobody knows how long they will live. We like to think that we will still be alive until we get old and frail and will die in old age. But, nothing is certain. Life is unpredictable. So, take some time off from work and family, then go and do what you want now. Wish you the best.
I am food alergic person thats the reason i could not decided to be a monk. If you want to do it Pls do it. Being a forest monk is kind of searching for peace that Buddha showed us. Wish you good luck Sir.

What a beautiful Nature where only peace and peace
I'd love to ordain as a forest monk after I have retired and completed my duty for my family in about 20 years from now.
20 years ago i thought so too but my body is too frail now due to major illness. Mind got even more attached to family when body was helpless...
You can most likely be a layman practitioner.

Forest monks got a thing for pogroms too, they’re not all flowers and bunnies. I doubt this group in the video were involved in the slaughter of a Muslim village that happened a few years ago but it was Theravada monks that did it. They killed everybody.

Wonderful gift-this film! I was wondering at what time do you sleep? Thank you for allowing us to view this sacred practice!
Yes I’m curious to know what time do they go to bed too
Forest monks usually sleep 4 hours a day. Midnight until 4 pm but not everyone up to their individual practice.
about 4 hours of sleep is the 'standard' recommended. It can be more or less depending on the strength of samadhi (concentration), from 10PM to 2AM or 11PM to 3AM something like this, everyone is free to adjust his timetable here.
