All Orthodox churches are sooo beautiful, great to see this. Love from Serbia ❤🙏

There is some misleading information in this video. The Eucharist in an Orthodox Liturgy is reserved for Orthodox Christians prepared to receive it.
This is true, but catholic point of view they think they can, but inreality cannot.
Yes and no, the Catholic allow it, but they need to get permission from the priest who would need to get permission from the bishop.
@@KillerofGods Well the Orthodox won't allow it, so it doesn't matter at all!
And if a catholic is an orthodox catholic ?
@@gabrielwerling9544yes they will, many do
I am Catholic and I absolutely love, admire, and respect Orthodox Christians. I have attended services in Greece, Romania, and Serbia. When I lived in Madrid, I always attended Orthodox Easter services because they were so beautiful.

@@rabalb-o2e Catholic means "universal", "relating to the whole".

@@rabalb-o2e from my paltry understanding of Greek, I always understood “katholikos” to mean “universal” or “all-inclusive”. And “orthodoxos” is “true doctrine”.

In my last unit in the Army, we didn't have any Catholic chaplains in Afghanistan. We have an Eastern Orthodox chaplain, and he offer the liturgy and confession. So, that was a unique experience. The Eucharist is leaven bread and I received along with the wine.
You are Roman Catholic? Who was the priest? He shouldn't have confessed you or communed you. That was detrimental to you spiritually. It was a failure of the priest's duties unto the Holy Orthodox Faith and to Christ.
@@t.l.ciottoli4319 How is it detrimental to receive confession from an Orthodox priest as a Catholic?
@@t.l.ciottoli4319 Go read the Gospel. You missed the point. Christ is King.
I highly doubt you received communion as a Catholic. It is forbidden and the priest will be defrocked if it becomes public knowledge.

Greetings from Romania. ☦️
As a Romanian Orthodox, I must say this video was entertaining.
there is a lot of similarity between the Ancient Latin Mass and the Orthodox Divine Liturgy. The back and forth chanting is lost in the modern music of the Mass, but the chants and polyphony of the Usus Antiquor did this.
Yeah but as he said. Is the HURRY that makes us loose all of these things
That is because Patriarchal See of Rome was an orthodox in doctrine but German ( Visigoths) barbaric priests invented Filioque and then they forced Rome to accept it .
@@aleksandarstavric2226 Completely inaccurate. All in all, Orthodox believe in filioque, they just don't like how Catholics say it.
at 2:43: Check that. Roman Catholics are barred from Communion in the EO churches. (They can indeed receive Communion in Catholic Churches.)
Exactly.
They actually can per RC teaching, it's just that most EO churches wouldn't allow them to.

A lot of this applies to Byzantine Catholics as well.
Also check out a Russian seminary (Jordanville, NY). The style of chanting is different-more polyphony.
True, since they're former Orthodox.

Jordanville is Russian typology. Very different. And on different calendars.
I plan on going to Hellenic College, beautiful people there. Thanks, Father.

Thanks for sharing this experience! I've fallen in love with the Byzantine traditions and attend an Eastern Catholic Sunday liturgy and also sing occasionally at an Eastern Orthodox parish. Brilliant, thank you. That we may all be one...🙏
Beautiful video. Thank you, Father.
Thats so awesome you got to do that! We have so much in common with the Orthodox Christians. I believe that your visit represents exactly the kind of common ground we should be working from.
Bring back rood screens and communion rails in the latin rite, and face ad orientem. These 3 simple things would bring a positive impact to our liturgy.

Hi Father ! Just to clarify, only baptized Eastern Orthodox can receive Communion and participate in Confession at an Orthodox Liturgy. 🙂
Re: ua-cam.com/video/ZBzTRRKi8bg/v-deo.html&si=uk_GWcbVBq5ojPTt
Thank you for pointing this out.
The Orthodox have an understanding called "economia of leniency". This is a situation that relaxes Canon law for the betterment of Christianity. In the case of a Roman Catholic who is unable to recieve the Eucharist because of extenuating circumstances, the Orthodox priest can administer communion with prior knowledge of the situation and a satisfactory belief in the piety of the Roman Catholic.
@johncollins3952 Usually a priest would need prior permission from his bishop.
@johncollins3952 OK, perhaps this should have been made super super clear. 😊

@SeVeN-yd2tq why?
Please consider learning Latin to celebrate a Novo Ordus Mass with the Roman Catholic rite with some of that liturgical beauty you experienced in Boston.
The TLM will reign again...this is what God wants...JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU.
Father, I don’t think the Orthodox would allow us Catholics to receive, nor do confession (outside of life or death situations).
They don’t. The priest here is mistaken.
@@JohnnyAlspaugh they don't, but our Catholic canon law allows it, that's what he meant.

You should make a video studying the Orthodox Western Rite.
Because we turned our liturgy into a show like a twitch stream.

Roman Catholics *are not permitted* to receive the Eucharist at Orthodox Liturgies. God bless you
Thanks !
Father, you should try to visit the Byzantine Catholic Seminary, in Pittsburg and ask to celebrate with them to truly feel the power of our liturgy. After all, we are in communion. One of their professors is an alum of the seminary in MA.
Sorry the response was actually for the next comment...

Nice video but there is crucial information that is incorrect here. Eucharist can only be given to Orthodox Christians who have prepared for it.
A catholic visiting however can get the blessed antidoron bread after though.
You know, we have that in the Eastern Catholic Churches. The same exact thing. Eastern Rite Catholic here, who studies in an Orthodox Theological School.
you should explore eastern catholicism :)

The 40 Lord have Mercies are in almost every Orthodox service. I usually chant them in groups of 10, but it doesn’t sound as nice as a blast of 40!
I am Antiochian Orthodox but the liturgy, the chanting, the iconography can also be found in the greek Catholic churches
Their iconography and liturgy are uncanonical. Chanting varies.
Thank you
It kind of feels like you were there during Lent? Weren't you? Or I don't know if the seminary, being a seminary, has some different / stricter / more intense liturgical schedule than normal parishes. But the chanting in 1:27 ότι μεθ' ημών ο Θεός = for God is with us, it feels like coming from the Great Compline, which is the evening service during Lent. The same with somebody doing a full prostration at some point in the video, that also feels like Great Compline and Great Lent period in general.
Ukrainian Greek Catholic here and I love both Rites, Roman Catholic and Ukrainian Catholic. I heard Orthodox don't believe in Purgatory...is it true?
True - No purgatory
Check out all the mentions of purging in the Menaion we both have! It all happens in THIS life! 🤯
@@KentuckyFarmstead What do you think Purgatory is?
The concept of post mortem purgatory follows different line in the east, starting with the ancient doctrine of the aerial tollhouses, but the principle is very loosely similar.
This is incorrect. Only baptised orthodox Christian’s can confess and receive Holy Communion.

Don't forget that we Catholics have our Eastern Catholic Brothers and Sisters, Ukrainian Catholics, Melkites, Maronites, Byzantine Catholics, and more. We Eastern Catholics are sometimes called, "Orthodox in communion with Rome" but are 100% Catholic. Father, I have a question. Should married couples exclusively see a priest for their marriage problems? I often think an unmarried man wouldn't know what living in a marriage is all about.
That is one reason it is good for Priests to be married. You don't have to be married to be an Orthodox Priest, but the unmarried Priests are usually found in monasteries.
