My new Costco Philips hearing aids are terrific. At $1500, the price is unbeatable. I love the phone app for precise, easy to use controls. I almost never use the buttons on the hearing aids themselves. I love the rechargeable feature; it beats changing the batteries. And the most important feature is how well they fit, feel and never fall out of my ears! My hearing is now incredibly better than it was with my prior set of Phonaks. Oh, and I love it that my aids are bluetooth enabled so I always have a set of invisible headphones in my ears! Music, audiobooks, TVs can be heard clear as a bell to me and not bother anyone else.

Yes! I'm so glad you are doing well. I'm going to pin this comment to the top! Thanks for letting us all know my good sir. 👍
@@HearingClub does Phillips have an improved app now? I know you hated it before... thx
@harleyatkins2008 You’re damn right about those trash Phonak hearing aids. I’ve had them for a year and the rechargeable battery lasts 3-4 hours. Unfortunately, my health insurance wouldn’t pay for the Costco hearing aids. The Phonak hearing aids were $5000 and my portion to pay was $500. I hope that no one else gets the Phonak hearing aids.
I just ordered my hearing aids. I went in thinking that I wanted the Jabra’s. But, no matter how they were adjusted. The reverb when I spoke was really bad. I continued to try the Philips and wore them for about 30 minutes. I walked around Costco and heard things, I’d never heard of noticed before. I can’t wait to pick up my aids because I really believe they will be changing my life!
They absolutely change lives. I see it almost every day. I'm very happy and excited for you. You MUST come back and let us all know how you make out.
How are you liking them now?
Great vid. Very helpful. I’m just less than a week on Costco’s Phillips 9040. I couldn’t agree more regarding the app. I can’t even find a Home Screen or program settings. I go back in a week and a half. May ask to try Jabra. I am going to watch all your information. You are easy to listen to and I can follow easily. Thank you. And did I say I’m 78. You help me feel 58 again. 😊
Christy, this just warms my heart. I'm so glad i can be of help to you and everyone that has no idea where to start on this hearing journey. Thank you so much for the wonderful comment!
I've only ordered my 9040's. I haven't been fitted yet. I told my specialist I wanted Programs installed and he said he doesn't do that initially. Obviously he doesn't tell his customers about that feature. My neighbor uses the same Costco, has a different specialist, is a user of hearing aids for many years and she apparently doesn't have any programs installed because she was never informed about them, plus she can't locate them on her app.
Thanks!
Anytime my man and thank you too
I compared hearing aids from three different brands yesterday at Costco in Taiwan. I ultimately chose the Philips 9040 model. Its sound is clearly the most natural. I even asked the hearing specialist to temporarily turn off the hearing aid sound for me because it was so natural that I doubted whether the hearing aid was turned on. It's fantastic! I'm really looking forward to receiving it! Please deliver it soon! 🥰
That’s great!!! How’s it going now that you have had them for a while?
@@HearingClub This hearing aid is so much better than the ReSound Forte I used before, with less background noise, more natural sound, and the ability to connect to my Android phone. However, I think the connectivity could be improved, as I occasionally experience connection issues.
Long video but worth it!!! Incredibly valuable content.
thank you so much!
Looking for my first hearing aids and it is overwhelming. I have an appointment with an audiologist but I’m thinking of checking Costco after watching these videos.
well, theres nothing wrong with going to more than one place to shop around and costco CERTAINLY should be on your list. Ask people that have got heraring aids there and you'll hear lots of good stuff.
I just left Costcos and was impressed, nobody can come close to their price or services. I made a hearing test appointment but they are booked for six weeks, I waited this long so six more weeks won’t matter. Now I have to decide between the Jabra or Phillips.
I will have to watch your videos again on those two aids. I have to also say your videos got me down there and at this point I’m sure glad I went.
Don't expect that audiologist to say anything accurate or positive about Costco. I went through years of aggravation and disappointment with high-priced audiologists before I finally got smart and went to Costco. What a positive difference!
Costco recently changed the Philips HearLink 9040 package to include the premium charger. It was probably a smart business decision, as the basic charger leaves the hearing aids exposed to curious house pets to chew on, and I would bet that resulted in lots of warranty replacements for pet-chew damage.
Absolutely. And I made a video about this months ago. Definitely a good move!
wow, these are the best product review vids i have seen on You Tube. I am shopping for my first HAs, and am a Costco member, so headed there. I was looking at the Phillips with the AI, but your negs on their app have me in the Jabra camp. I have normal low range, with drop outs in the highs (too many years as a carpenter)... Thanks so much for all the great info!
Well, the app has been updated and now has a really nice equalizer. The Jabra still has more features but it's getting better
thx for the reply.... If the Phillips had the Jabra app, which would you recommend?
@@HearingClub
Which one did you go with?

I am a 77yo engineer. I noticed I was not understanding even loud talk by actors at plays. I thought my brain was running too slow to decode words. After a friend's comment that by my high freq hearing loss I am missing consonants and not getting the words due to that. I have researched that and I am getting my Costco hearing test next week. Probably going with Jabra, but lets see what comparison teaches me. Your channel is invaluable, thank you.👍
My pleasure! And yes, with you missing out on the high frequencies, you are missing out on very important consonants such as “S,T,Sh,Th,F” etc… once you get your hearing aids programmed, you should be doing much better. Watch one of my older videos on how to read your audiogram. It’s old but it still gets the message across.
I loved this video so much. Informative, easily understood, very helpful and truly a fun listen. I am sold on the Costco Philips 9040 hearing aids. I would jump right now. Buy sadly, when I tried to make an appointment at one of our local Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada) Costco stores, I was told I'd have to wait for an opening and that the wait list currently extended to March 2024 waiting list. Not good.
Wow that’s terrible!
Time for a road trip! Your membership is honored in all Costco's even in the States.
I just got called from the Costco list yesterday and was fitted for the 9040’s. My appointment wasn’t until Feb 22 which is 7 weeks away! If you get the call, just say yes. I’m ecstatic about getting in so quickly since there is a large senior (I’m raising my hand) population in the area.
I returned my Philips 9040 and bought the Jabra, I really like them. I might say I am not new to hearing aids. I had Rexton for 10 years before.
Nice! I love my jabras
What made you return them?
@@christee299 Was driving with wife setting next to me and she asked me why I was always messing with my phone. I told her I was trying to find a program on the app so I could hear her, she said why do you have them if that is a problem. Also, I had had Rextons hearing aids for 10 years, so I know what good sound is. This was not it.
Until my first pair of HA's, I had never realized how noisy birds were.
Haha that's great. What a difference huh
Love the videos! Thank you so much! I pick up my Phillips this afternoon. I’ve worn HAs for 20 years. Just had chemo last year and it made my hearing worse. I tried some Phoneks, but didn’t think the improvement was worth $5k. I’m really hopeful for the Philips. Thank you for being so specific. I’m glad they’ve improved the app since this video.
You are so welcome! Chemo is definitely hard on our bodies but well worth the fight. Keep fighting the good fight!
Very informative and well done. I have my Costco hearing appt next week and your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
You are fantastic! Thank you for your honest reviews.
My pleasure!
Thank you for your info. I never really thought of buying hearing aids at Costco.
My pleasure sir!
Thank You Brian for sharing your knowledge with us all.
My pleasure!
Thanks for the very detailed explanation, I just went to get my hearing checked and was told that i should start using aids but when they quoted 7K for them my hearing got much worse😂, I will be going to costco to get them at a price that i can live with, just have to make the final decision from Phillips to Jabra.
Tough decision indeed. Try then both and go with your gut.
Great video. My mom got these and now I know she got a great hearing aid and i can help her learn to use the app and everything else you talked about
Awesome! That's why I make these videos, that makes me so happy 😊
Great video! I’ve been waiting for this one. For me, I’ve decided one of the requirements is that my next pair of hearing aids must support multipoint Bluetooth. (I think that’s what it’s called?) whereby I can switch from my iPhone to my iPad **without** having to disconnect from one device first. That’s the main reason I only have my current hearing aids paired with my iPad. Drives me absolutely nuts to have to disconnect/turn off Bluetooth on one device before I can listen on another.
That is indeed annoying and that is something that Jabra, Philips, & Rexton need to work on. Phonak is best brand for multiple Bluetooth connections. Unfortunately Costco doesn’t sell Phonak brand anymore.
Agree 1000%!
Yes agree!
Me too!
First world problem lol.
Thanks for the videos. I've just lost the left (about 15% remaining, and tinny) to Meniere's, so I'm reading and watching everything.
No problem we made this channel to help others! Are you currently looking for hearing aids?
I have Meniere’s and lost most hearing in left ear (moderate-severe). See my question above to see some of the issues I have with Costco and Philips 9040 (mostly Costco, I think).
Thank You for the information on hearing aids. I really need some, I will have to check them out.
No problem!
I went back to Costco today and they programmed the Sound Protect as a separate program on my Philips 9040 hearing aids. This feature is only available to be installed by a technican at Costco and not by the user. I would like to be able to adjust the setting myself.
You will be able to soon. I'm working on a whole new series on how to program your own hearing aids.
Great videos Brian! I thought I saw in one of your videos you picked up a charging case on ebay for the 9040s but I can't find one. I can find one but it's almost the price of a new one.
Yup, you have to watch those auctions. That was an outlier for sure. And it wasn't a buy now price, nobody was bidding against me and I lucked out. I also got a pair of ks10 hearing aids for really cheap that way too
Great reviewd both for this and the Jabra - thank you. Did Phillips improve the App since you posted this? Or are there possibly generic or modified apps available that open up more features? TIA
They did improve the app. They now have a real equalizer but still not up to par with the jabra app in my opinion but it's better for sure.
Brian….Great presentation. Really appreciate, as it made my understanding of hearing aids much clearer. Now I can make an informed decision, with the information you provided. Many thanks. Ed
Ed, thank you so much for the feedback! I’m here to help you all out and it makes me so happy that I can and with comments like this, I will continue doing my best to keep you informed. Cheers brother 🍻
Hey Brian! I know you indicated in one of your videos that you chose the Jabra Pro10 hearing aids for yourself. I had my hearing test done at my local Costco here in Connecticut. Trying to decide between the Jabra Pro 20 and the Philips Hearlink 9040. I’m a long time audiophile, so listening to music is a huge thing for me. With that being said, obviously speech intelligibility is also extremely important. Which of the two would you say offers better sound quality for an audiophile?
thats a hard question to answer. Personally, i have a very mild high frequency hearing loss and the Jabra's have worked great for me. I can't hear what you are hearing and for some people, the jabras sound better and for others, they like the philips. Personally, i would go with something that you can program yourself so philips would be a good bet. Video will be out shortly on how to do this.
@@HearingClub Okay! Now my interest is really peaked! Being able to do programming myself would be a huge advantage for an audiophile. All kidding aside, I have well over 100k invested in my audio system. The speakers alone were 28k. I know that sounds crazy, but most high end audiophiles take the hobby pretty seriously. I’m looking forward to the video! Thanks Brian! happy Easter to you and your family!
@@krellman7thank you! You as well
I am 72 years and still working as a clinical psycholgist. I do not have problems hearing my patients in my own Office (I own the building and have enhanced sound proofing).
However, in groups of friends and watching movies together, I have to ask my wife, "What did they say?" I only watch movies, at home or theatres, with sub-titles.
As a android user, the best app is a dealbreaker.
Thank you for helping me and my wife towards (but not quite yet) in choosing a hearing aid.
Oh my gosh, my pleasure sir. These comments always make me so happy. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to let me know. If you have any specific questions or anything at all, just ask 😀
Here is our problem with Cosco.
2. There is no Cosco in our town, but the neighboring one which makes it inconvenient to shop there. The traffic is terrible.
2. They/Cosco will not even let you in their store to see what is in there without begging.
3. When you do beg your way in, the hearing people won't give you information, since you are not a member.
4. So we get infomation about hearing aids on the internet. Thank you for sharing.
P.S. Luckily for us, we have friends who have had good luck buying their hearing aids from Cosco.
I just turned 94 and got my first hearing aids. Now I hear my wife. Big mistake, lol.
I just bought some Java hearing aids from Costco. Can’t wait to get them.
nice! congrats, i think costco is one of the best places to buy hearing aids. Let us all know how you do with them please.
great job, I liked and subscribed. I'm new to this problem and you've given me a great starting place.
That makes me so happy! Thank you for taking the time to write this. 🤪
Do a video for those of us are comfortable wearing one hearing aid ... especially when we have other problems in the other ear that negates the use of a hearing aid. Thank you.
i'll see what i can do.
Any news about an even newer Phillips model at Costco equivelant to Oticon Intent??
its coming soon but we don't know exactly when :(
Thanks! Have an appointment on Sunday and these hearing aids are the ones I am going with.
Good luck sir!
Hi Brian,
I’m on day 2 of my Phillips 9040. I was hoping the 9050’s were already out.
I inquired about the jabra. The person helping me suggested Phillips and asked why I was interested in jabra. I told her I had a jabra Bluetooth in the past and knew that name brand. I asked her why she was recommending the Phillips and she said there were LESS RETURNS with the Phillips. When I went back the next day for my pick up appointment and to pay I asked again why she recommended the Phillips and she asked (kind of rudely) do you want the jabra instead? I said no, I just forgot what you told me. We went in the booth, did all of the sound stuff and trying on. Then it’s time for me to leave and she pulls a pair of hearing aids from the cabinet. I asked, are those jabra? She said yes. I asked for the next person and she said yes. I just thought it was odd and felt like she could have also let me try on the jabra’s?? She was at our store from out of town helping out. My follow up is June 7th with our regular local person.
Are people allowed to try more than 1 brand??
Also, I feel like these sound a little tinny and sound better when I put my fingers in my ears. LOL Plus…when my hair touches them it really sounds staticky.
And what are programs????
I also wanted to listen to TV through my hearing aids and she talked me out of getting the device??? It’s all so new 😅 Thanks for listening and thanks for any help 😊
So first of all, yes you can try all 3 brands before making a decision. They sound better or “louder” when you have your fingers in your ear because you are trapping all the sound in your ear canal vs some of it spilling out. The tinny sound is completely normal, I’m assuming you have a high frequency loss. The static you hear when touching the mic is normal as well. With Jabra’s, there is an option called “wind noise reduction” that you can turn up that will reduce that sound significantly but the Philips version is on by default and apparently, some static is still there.
Note I'm picking up my Philips 9040 hearing aids at Costco, and I was able to order the portable charger at no extra cost. This was a new development, good for Costco!!
yay!
I got these because of frequency lowering- Oticon seems to have done a lot of research in this area. I'm way down at 4Khz. I asked to test a General program with and without. Can't tell any difference! However what I think I would use a lot is focus or direction that I could set from the app so I'm thinking of switching to Rexton or Jabra.
All of the Rx hearing aids have frequency lowering that can be enabled or disabled and I always set it as the default if needed and have the patient wear them like that for 2 weeks and then report back. And I have to double check but I don't think frequency lowering can be turned on for a specific program. I'm pretty sure it's one of the universal settings that isn't program specific. So if you have frequency lowering on, it applies to all programs so that's probably why you didn't notice any difference.
@@HearingClub I listened to sine waves from a speaker about 10' in front of me. On the Philips 9040 with the General 1 program with freq lowering I heard tones up to 7,500KHz. On my General 2 program, supposedly without freq lowering, it was very different- I heard only up to 5,800KHz. The Speech in Noise program 3 did have freq lowering. So it seems that freq lowering on the Philips can be on or off at least for multiple General programs.
My husband just got the Phillips. His aids are connected to the app but he doesn't seem to be able to stream to them. His phone is a Motorola with Android 11. His old aids had no problem streaming with his phone. They were Kirkland (by Phonak I think).
ya it's probably not going to stream. You will need an iphone or a new, nice samsung galaxy but not one of the cheaper J or A versions.
Thank you for these videos...your knowledge and information is greatly appreciated!
My pleasure!
So I’m in the mix! We all know what it’s like when our family elsera have an issue with something electronic lol. With that said, my father’s Phillips hearlink 2 keeps disconnecting from Bluetooth on I PHONE. I have done EVERYTHING short of bringing it back, ANY SUGGESTIONS?!?
Great video, but I didn't hear (yup, it's a pun) anything about a built in Telecoil?? Do all Costco hearing aides have telecoils?
Not all of them have telecoils. You need to specify that you want a telecoil. For example, the enhance pro 20 micro tic doesn’t have one unless you request the bigger, chunkier version with a t-coil. The Philips does have a telecoil.
I bought a pair of Costco Philips 9040s and in places that are echoey (without sound absorbings surfaces like carpet) they are worse than useless. I can actually understand speech better with them off. Is there anything that can be done about this?
yes, speak to your hearing aid fitter or practitioner. They can fix issues like this, that is what they are there for. Good luck!
Do you prefer these over the Jabra pro 20?
It's really hard to say. Both hearing aids are so good. I fit probably 90% philips and the other 10% are jabra.
@@HearingClubreally? Wow. Why do you think people prefer the phillips?
it has been 11 months. Did Philips upgrade their app?
Great review, I am new to hearing aids and a Costco member. It will be my first stop and hopefully the Phillips9040 will be good for me, I am a singer and natural sound and non occlusive are the most important factors for me. I have a Samsung Galaxy 20... it this HA compatible? Thank you...
I know for sure the phone is compatible with the app, just not 100% sure on the streaming. If it doesn't stream and you need streaming, you can always upgrade to a newer Samsung or get an iPhone. Congrats on going with a hearing aid though, it's not so bad 😉
thankyou!@@HearingClub
Which HA did you get? I'm a singer, too. So, I'm concerned about natural sound.
@christee299 hi.. I have the costco Phillips 9040 which is the same as the Oticon Real. Excellent! Made by the same company with the same hardware and software. 1500 vs about 6000.:) if you are in Houston... go yo the Ruchmond Greenway location and have Charled do the fitting. The best hearing aid not adjusted correctly will nor work for you or sound good.
Ps they will be getting their version of the oticon intent soon... it is supposed to be improved for use in crowds etc
Even rechargeable batteries eventually give out so are the batteries in any of these aids replaceable? Or are they all replaceable? If not, a short table showing which brands allow replacements would be very useful.
Yup, they are replaceable. If ANY of the costco rechargeable hearing aids start losing battery capacity, they can be replaced for free if they are within the 3 yr warranty.
Very informative. Do you work in a store where I could make an appointment or do you do adjustments virtually?
oh man, i wish i could. You would have to come to my costco location in PA. I'll tell you what though, and this is REALLY exciting. You can program your own philips hearing aids. I just found this out and will be working on a video shortly and an ENTIRE series on how to program you own hearing aids. This is ONLY possible with philips for now. You can find and download the hearing aid fitting software, its open to the public. The only thing you would need is the Noah link receiver that you can get on amazon for 170.00. But to be able to program your own hearing aids would sooo make it worth the purchase. Standby for the video, its gonna be awesome!
Thanks so much. This is exciting news I’ll look for the video.
Can this sw be used to program the Oticon Real?@@HearingClub
So you would recommend the Jabra over the Rexton?
Yes. I don't like the issues we have with rexton. I'm waiting until they fix the issues before I start fitting them again.
@@HearingClub My tech at Costco recommend Rexton since one of my ear has profound HL and the other ear is moderate Hearing loss. She think the Rexton app with directional front hearing focus would help me more. Could you elaborate what is the issue with Rexton HA?
How do you get your hands on all of the hearing aids for these reviews at your studio? Does Costco let you take them home? Love your reviews
No way, Costco would never allow that. I have some viewers that are really loving the channel and love supporting the channel so they will actually send me their hearing aids, I record what I need and send them right back. I also bought a bunch of used hearing aids. Some don’t even work, some do. I have an old pair of ks10’s from eBay, some 9030’s, etc.
Hi, Can you tell more on what is not possible in the Philips app. Can we change the programs and microphone directions through the app? Those are the functions I was using most with my KS7 app.
you can change programs but there are NO directional microphone features in the app. The jabra hearing aids, in both the app and the fitting software that we use, has SO MANY more features that we can adjust. Philips did add a real 3 band equalizer which was really nice but it's still lacking the mic directionality and noise filter options.
@@HearingClub thanks for the reply... this will help me with my decision.. I have an appointment in Costco tomorrow.
what are the chances of the Phillips app being updated so you would be pleased with it?
we will find out very soon, i heard its being worked on RIGHT NOW! Dont you worry, i'll be all over it
Hey Brian, great video! Can you tell me if there is a way to answer/reject calls using new models of Samsung/android phones such as the s23 ultra? Or if we could expect a firmware update that would enable this feature?
I'm definitely hoping they do something. The problem with Android, I think, are all the different phone manufacturers. But to my knowledge, none of the androids offer hands free yet.
Great video! Thanks! I have moderate hearing loss, and my primary care physician tells me each year that I need hearing aids. I've finally decided to act, and have an appointment at Costco in 1 month to get a hearing test, and believe I'll be going with Philips 9040. My question is "why do i need to buy the Philips TV Streaming Box (about $250?) when I can get an Auracast box from Amazon for a fraction of that"? Also, I'm wondering if I can be listening to TV with Auracast and still hear my wife speak to me at a normal level. That is, can I hear two things I'm interested in at once? Thanks in advance.

Great review. Thanks. Next, the Jabra review.
yessir
I have the KS10 hearing Aids. I think they are great.
I did have some issues with the hearing aid not charging on one side.
I replaced the charging cord and they work fine.
What is it I'm "hearing" that they have been discontinued?......why?
You should watch the video I made about it. Everything is explained there. It's one of the last few videos I put out
@@HearingClub I did just that,thanks. Interesting stuff.
So bringing in my KS10s to Costco will get it fixed same day
without sending it out being somewhere for a couple of weeks?
I also have the K10s. I really believe the issues they have are the charger not the hearing aid. I am learning to make sure they charge.
After 3 years of ks9s disposable battery version, I tried Jabra Enhance Pro 10 disposable large battery version. Sounded “tinny” right out of the box. I thought I would get used to it. I didn’t. I stream most of the day while working. With Jabra I couldn’t hear or adjust in any more bass.
The left one’s Bluetooth broke, I returned them for repair (they replaced both). I wore my old ks9s and immediately enjoyed more bass and a more natural sound of voices. Even with adjustments the voices sounded shrill…almost painful. With outside noise I had to turn up the volume and the “shrill” got worse. Very uncomfortable. I took the Jabras back today and got my refund.
Back to my ks9s today.
The simpler app appeals to me. I use automatic, direct (restaurant) speech and a noise program when I’m driving my Jeep. I may try the Philips.
Sorry you didn’t have any luck with the Jabra hearing aids. It is normal for it to be tinny and echo. It usually takes couple days to a week at most. Usually means your brain not adjusted to hearing aids and it’s newer technology. But in this case, you have worn it some time and no improvements. Did you go back to get fitters to make adjustments for them? Again sorry you didn’t have the experience you hoped for with Jabra. You might like the Philips. It doesn’t hurt to schedule an appointment and demo the Philips. Let us know what you think after you demo them.
@@HearingClub yes I had the adjustments made after the replacement/repaired were received. Tried them for the week after adjustments.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Costco, I love the trial period. I chose Jabras because they are supposed to be the latest technology. They just aren’t what works for me. Headed back today
Ok sounds good and good luck at your appt.
Great review. I have the HL 9040 now for 2 weeks. Agree with the bad (featureless) app. The app keeps disconnecting from the hearing aids and have to reboot the app and turn off/on the hearing aids: Hopefully Philips will get that updated. Besides that, I think my dome's fitting may be not right, as I don't hear Bluetooth streaming audio mid and low bass sounds very well, nor in normal speech, even though the domes are inside the canal. It seems to be all high frequencies. During normal wear, as a musician, when I play a simple tone or guitar chord, everything has vibrato (rapid fluctuations in volume). I am not sure if it's the fit or the AI is trying to adjust the volume. I went back to the Costco audiologist, and they fitted me with a larger dome, but still seems lacking on the low end. What's your thoughts?
well i have more questions than i do an opinion. My first is, are you listening to your guitar in the HiFi music program? 2. Have you tried adjusting the streaming equalizer, increasing the mids and lows? I'm assuming you have done both but ya never know haha.
@@HearingClub Yes. Did that with EQ, and made almost no difference in the low, a little with mid, but high has a lot of room. I have the two programs General and HifI Music. And makes no difference in the vibrato sound in either program. But the EQ I think only is for streaming not hearing via the mics from the hearing aid?
Correct for the EQ in streaming only and not just mics unfortunately. They should work on that.
I got 9040s about 2 weeks ago as well. A few days ago the app updated to hearlink2. I have android and it dissconnected a couple times. Fortunately I dont use my phone for work or much. The updated app 2 seems to be working better with the phone now.
If you leave away from phone (out of bluetooth range) and return, it does not do a good job and pairing back. I either have to force stop the app or put the hearing aids back into charger and remove again. Lots needed to improve on that.@@sailgoal
Thanks for the great video. My mom is not iPhone savvy (too old) so I think to get her Philips that other remote helper can do for her. She is also not easy to move around. I wonder how many times does she have to be in Costco to fit her hearing aid . Or do you have any suggestion what hearing aid should she get?
i think the philips would be great and LOTS of folks use the remote, its much easier than using a phone for some people. Theres only 3 buttons, up down and a program button that she probably wont use.
When was this video made? Was the Hearlink 2 APP available before or after the video was made? If after, it would be usefol to have the APP reviewed
Video was made before the new 2.0 app
I had an IPhone I prefer Samsung. Does the charging case have wireless charging for a QI charging stand
Are you asking about the hearing aid charging case? If so, im not sure.
I think the manufacturers are stuck on iphone
Can you tell me has the app been improved since you made this video? Yesterday I ordered the Philips and now I don’t know if that was the right choice. Thank you for your videos
The app hasn’t been improved much. I made a video on the new updated app. You should watch it
10 months into using these and I’ve had to return them three times for defects that required replacements.
Oh wow! That’s very strange
Agree with you on the colors! Make different colors available.
Definitely!
Great video!! I have moderate to severe hearing loss. Currently wearing K9 with the largest domes to minimize feedback. Are the Philips better at controlling feedback? Would I eventually need molds? Sound quality difference than what I am currently wearing? Thanks
Without knowing your audiogram or test results, can’t say if you need molds or not. I wouldn’t say it’s better but it is newer technology so it is little better. But there’s us fitters ways for us to manage feedback. But it’s possible ya need molds and also maybe stronger receivers too. Again just depends what your audiogram results are.
Domes don't work well for some people that have a non-compatible ear canal shape. For me, the domes tend to send sound to the side of my ear canal instead of straight down the canal.
Custom molds get around that problem. My first custom mold worked well but was rather large. My most recent custom mold is quite a bit smaller at the suggestion of the Costco audiologist and works and fits much better. Before his suggestion I didn't know that there was a choice of size for molds.
All of my hearing aids and both molds have been from Costco.
I bought the jabra enhance pro in September 2023 from Costco. Since I use my telephone a lot to stream videos on UA-cam, I found the sound to be weak and far away. If I increase the volume it sound harsh, tinny and shrill.
I wish they could resolve this issue. In comparison, I didn’t have the same issue with my old Kirkland 10 hearing aid although they were older technology in comparison with jabra.
I don't think it's an issue, you just have to adjust the hearing aids. Use the sound enhancer while on the phone or streaming and turn up the lows and mids. Report back!
Hello! I have otosclerosis and fairly severe hearing loss in my right ear. Left is normal. My ears are also quite sensitive so when I went for my hearing test a couple of weeks ago and the Dr put a behind the ear aid in for me to try, she had to keep adjusting it to reduce my sense of a sort of hissing or feedback feeling. She recommended the Bernafon Alpha XT 7...for over $3,000 Canadian for one hearing aid. I am considering the Philips 9040 at costco but have to wait a few weeks for an appointment. I am wondering if the super sensitivity and otosclerosis will make a difference in the type of hearing aid I can choose? I prefer the behind the ear variety to the in the canal variety. Thanks so much!
ok lets start with the fact that I myself am not a doctor and i dont EVER want to overstep or move out of my lane so to speak. I am however, a licensed hearing aid practitioner and DO know about hearing aids and what they can do. Usually, from what i know about otosclerosis is that its due to the ossicles not being able to move correctly, you have hearing loss and it's USUALLY in the lower frequencies. Is this the case with you? Whether you have low frequency or high frequency loss, ALL of the prescription hearing aids at costco can accommodate this. Most can in fact. You made need a custom mold, a closed "occluded" dome but ya, they can help you for sure. Show me your audiogram and i'll let you know but you certainly shouldn't need a certain hearing aid, they should all do the job as long as its a good, well known manufacturer. At costco, the philips are made by demant, the same as the bernaphon and oticon hearing aids. Hope this helps.
@@HearingClub Thanks so much for your reply, Brian! I actually can't remember if my HL is in the higher or lower frequencies...however, I'll be picking up my audiogram tomorrow. I hear so little from that ear, it doesn't seem to matter. At this point I will definitely be going the Costco route. Re the otosclerosis, I thought it was the stapes bone that is "stuck" with a build up of calcium? I considered surgery to replace the bone, but when they mentioned a risk of facial nerve damage, I chickened out. ;P Besides, I was also told I would have to have the surgery again in 10-12 years.
@@HearingClub I have Oticon OpNS2 that I brought 4 years ago for $4,200. I really haven’t seen a big difference over them and the Oticon Ria 2 I had 8 years ago for $1,700. My hearing is moderate in the right ear and moderate to severe in the left ear. Both drop from a low frequency range down like a cliff when you get to the higher frequencies. These Oticon OpN2 even with audiologist doing reprogramming every 6 months my word recognition is not what I thing it should be with $4,200 pair aids.
Is there a lower cost Costco aid you think are better then these Oticon OpN2’s? They are rechargeable which ai like. The app don’t have ant frequency adjustments by the customer like many the Phonak apps do. Better word recognition is what I am looking for. How can I send you a audiogram? I have one recent.
I just went to Costco to get the Philips hearing aids. I got an apprentice guy and he performed the test. In the sound proof room they had a clock on the wall that was very loud. I asked him to remove it as it is bothering me but he offered to end the test and send me home, as other people did not complain about it. I insisted and after a couple of tense moments he removed the clock. When I asked him about the hearing aids he said he does not know much about them. He ordered the hearing aids and and programed them. I returned 2 weeks later and told him to perform a hardware update that came out, he did not know about it and started arguing with me again. I showed him on the internet that there is an update and needs to be performed in the store. He ran to his manager to find out and he performed it. I asked him to perform some fine tuning on the hearing aids and he had no clue how to do them. His manager came over and performed them. Long story short when you set up an appointment make sure you ask for an audiologist and make sure to be ready to fight for your requests. They will not do anything more than their procedure and even if you ask hem to remove noise sources from the room they will argue with you.
Oh boy. That is terrible. I'm very sorry you had such a bad experience. I would have done things very different but I'm not an apprentice. Did you return the hearing aids and give up?
Pixel 8 Android seems to cover hearing aids (many of them anyway) including the 9040. Correct me if I am wrong.
I’m not sure what you mean by “cover the hearing aids” but the pixel phones have terrible compatibility issues with the mfi (made for iPhone) hearing aids which all the Costco hearing aids are. I deal with 100’s of phones per week with all 3 brands of hearing aids. The pixel is one of the worst phones to use with all 3 brands. This is my experience and the experience of all of my co workers. I’m not saying it’s a bad phone, I’m saying it’s terrible for our hearing aids.
I've watched most of your videos and wanted to thank you for your time spent to inform people like me. Since the video, have you seen more battery life/failures? I'm torn between the 9040s and new jabras. Battery life and the app have me leaning towards jabra. I've had hearing loss my whole life but stopped wearing an uncomfortable hearing aid about 18 years ago. Now it's time to start hearing my life... and wife again 😂
I haven't had many battery issues since I last mentioned it. Everything has been going pretty smooth with the philips. And yes, happy wife, happy life!
So are the 9030s the same as Oticon Real1?
The 9030s is same as Oticon More. The 9040s is same as Oticon Real
I saw where you are a Costco employee and did very good reviews on the Phillips and Jabra hearing aids. I’m also interested in the Sam’s Club offerings of Lucid and Liberty hearing aids. I’m interested because Sam’s is a lot closer and they offer free hearing exams. Do you have recommendations on these devices?
From what I hear, they are pretty decent hearing aids. They look like otc hearing aids and I never heard of the manufacturer until someone brought a pair in. They have a nice app. I havent listened to them personally and have no experience with them. I'm pretty sure they are made here in the USA which is great. I don't think they are bad hearing aids they just don't look like much but you can't base anything on looks. If they have a trial period, go try em out. Just let us know what you think if you do.
My wife has been wearing the Philips 9030 for a little over a year now. She’s low tech so the app is not a huge issue, but they still bother her ears when wearing her glasses. Do you think the Jabra OTC devices you have linked would be a suitable substitute? It appears they may not have the fancy domes you talked about.
haha the fancy domes, i love it. So, any custom or ITE "in the ear" hearing aids would be more suitable if having something on top of her ear bothers her. Whether its an otc HA or prescription HA, yes, something that doesn't sit behind or on top of her ear would be better.
Notice the rechargeable has telecoil which uses a lot of power. So is that the battery charge life problem? The rechargeable Jabra does not have telecoil it appears.
That may be it, you might be on to something
I purchased these 9040 hearing aids at Costco and I do not have the Sound Protect feature on them. The technican didn't ever n mention this feature to me during my fitting.
That’s unfortunate you didn’t have one on. Do you have it on now?
I have severe loss would these be a benefit
absolutely! RIC hearing aids can support super mild losses and all the way up to profound losses. Sometimes certain profound losses are a little to much for these to handle and in that case, we would recommend a more powerful BTE hearing aid.
Do these or the Jabras have a Tinnitus masking feature? I have been told from my local Costco (Vancouver, BC, Canada) no Costco hearing aids have this feature. I have test driven the Oticon’s which have a reliever feature in the app that works well for me but they are $4k vs $2k for the same Philips. My hearing loss is very mild in the high range but I have really bad tinnitus (8 months now). I do know I can stream sounds from my iPhone but I doing the BT cuts out intermittently vs having the app stream it where the program is saved in the hearing aids preventing BT dropout disruptions when playing the white noise. Love your videos lots of great info!
All hearing aids that are MFI aids, (made for iphone) have this feature if you are using an iPhone. IF you have an android phone, no, there is no tinnitus masking feature. If you have an iPhone, it will be in the hearing aid menu under accessibility or the triple click menu. I'm just finishing up the tinnitus video that goes over all of this. Should be out soon
I have the new Phillips aids. I could not be happier with the soundd quality, but the domes hurt my ears. I have had two previous Kirkland aids and never a problem. Are there any other domes to try other than the ones they have at Costco?
You could see if they have smaller size domes. Unfortunately you should stick with same brand domes just because they were fitted for that particular brand. Using different brand domes on your hearing aids increase risk of domes stuck in ear. See about getting smaller size domes.
I want to know more about streaming. Will the 9040 stream to a OnePlus 12? If so, can i double tap to mute like the KS10, I'm wearing now.
Hey there! What is a one plus 12? Other than 13 of course
I'm going to Costco to get hearing aides. Which ones do you recommend especially for noisy environments. I know you like the Jabra too. I've tried some other behind the ear hearing aides and the wire into my ear and the dome that went into my ear canal never fit right or stayed in my ear properly. I was reading about an imbedded mold, is that supposed to help the wire fit better. I really prefer a discreet hearing aide, have a pair. of Eargos but the are terrible in bars, noisy environments. Thanks
Yes Eargos is just way overpriced in my opinion. You can’t go wrong with either Philips or Jabra hearing aids. You should try both of them out. Request for demo. Let us know what you end up getting.
I recently got my first hearing aid - the Phillips Hearlink 9040. It seems to work fine but I still have trouble hearing conversations in noisy places. I too found that the app is very limited. So I am thinking about switching to the Jarba 10. In your Phillips review you mentioned the AI feature as being a good thing, but it was not mentioned in the Jarba review. Does Jarba have it? You mentioned to another person that Phillips may be changing their app to a better one. Should I wait for an update or switch to Jarba? The Jarba comes with the battery powered charger which is a plus. Also I checked Consumer Reports and they rated the Phillips highest and I did not see Jarba mentioned. Please advise. PS. Your videos are very good and gave far more information than my Costco fitter. Thanks!
No problem! The philips app did get an update. You must take your philips to your fitter and have then update the firmware AND you must also update your philips app. Watch the philips update video, everything is laid out so you know what must be done and what the update includes.
My 9040's are on version 1.0.1. Is there a later version?
Having a difficult time hearing incoming calls. Do you have any suggestions. iOS user
a lot of folks that have this issue had no idea they can turn up the hearing aids while on the phone call, you just use the side buttons on the phone. Have you done this?
Hi what is your view on phonak luminity 90 thanks Paul
Phonak hearing aids are very good!
Will the Phillip's app be updated?
hopefully they keep coming out with more updates. Everything gets updated these days, im sure they will come out with another.
I’ve had the Jabra hearing aids for about 6 months. I like them a lot. My biggest issue is when I put them in the charger they stay connected to my IPhone Bluetooth which means i can’t hear the speakers on my iPhone. I need to manually disconnect the hearing aids the hearing aids to hear my IPhone speakers. Any advice?
Ya, go in the accessibility menu under hearing aids and turn off streaming. Or just temporarily shut off bluetooth.
Where can I find information on what Android devices these HAs will stream from? I really like the K10s being able to work with my Samsung phone, Amazon Fire tablet and PC Bluetooth. I took a quick look at the Philips web site but did not find this kind of information.
It is under hearing aid devices and connectivity in their website. Here’s the link to the compatible list.
www.hearingsolutions.philips.com/en-us/support/connectivity/compatibility
@@HearingClub Thanks for the pointer.
No problem!
Does the internal telecoil connect automatically when you are in a movie theater with assisted hearing systems?
no, you will have to activate the telecoil program. Have your hearing aid practitioner add a telecoil program and then you can use your app or the physical buttons on the hearing aid to change programs.
Brian, does the theater or classroom program trigger the telecoil?
How can I get a printout of the key points in the presentation so that I can review and study?
Don't worry there's no test 😉
My Costco in NJ never offered me loaners. Especially since they are currently out for the 3rd time for repair. Over 4 weeks without them in total and counting thus far. And they never called me to tell any were approaching the end of warranty? Kirkland 10.0 sent out for battery issue. Came back with left one constantly rebooting. Sent out 2nd time and was never fixed. Currently out for 3rd try. Costco gave me help desk number and lady said they didn’t have any replacements to send me this why I had to send out for 3rd time. And also. Told me they were not making them any longer even though Costco said they were still available just not through Costco
Well costco doesn't have an unlimited amount of loaners. They are finite. Costco no longer sells the KS10's but will continue to replace/repair them while they are replaceable and repairable. I'm sorry you are having these issues.
Hey Brian, nice information.
I'm curious to know as to whether the custom ear molds I'm using for the Real 1's would fit these 9040's?
Reason I'm asking is that I've already purchased the Real 1's some time ago but I'm considering purchasing the 9040 as a backup pair for the Real 1.
Another question is do you happen to know if the 9040 accessories such as streamers, travel charging case, etc is compatible with the Reals?
Thanks
Great questions. Yes the molds will work since they both use the same exact receivers. As far as the streamer, they absolutely should work but I'm not 100%. I'd have to get back to you on that. Based on other manufacturers, they should work.
@@HearingClub Thanks Brian, appreciate it.
The only question I have right now is probably one of those "unknowables." What is the expected life span of the rechargeable batteries in these aids, and will Costco replace them at the end of the three years, or will I have dead pieces of plastic at that time? Can these be ordered with regular battery power? I have had the Costco KS8's, and I'm about 2 months from the five-year mark. They probably work about as well as they ever have. As to colors, the fitter said they used to sell aids in metallic red, green, blue, and purple. He said they sold almost none in those colors. But being a hotrodder, I would have bought some metallic candy apple red, right?
Haha yes candy apple red or apricot orange, just not ford blue. Anyway, they will send out the hearing aids right before the warranty ends. If your batteries are on their way out, yes they will be replaced. And yes, you can order the non rechargeable version that takes a regular 312 battery so that it's never even an issue.
@@HearingClub I wish I had known I could do that before I ordered them. Thanks for the info.
Can you do a 9040 vs Enhance 10 pro vid? It would be greatly appreciated.
Sure can. I've got a list of videos to do but ill definitely add it to the list.
I've just tested and will be deciding. I'm severe at HF in both ears.
Which would you choose? I know you prefer the Jabra but with the updated Phillips app, would that still be your choice?
Streaming is not important. Conversation is. My wife's voice is a higher register and I am getting these so we can communicate better. I know it must be frustrating having to repeat yourself.
Thanks for your vids. They've been very helpful in this process.
question -- I do technical theater, working up in the booth for different events. During performances, I'm wearing a headset over one ear that carries crew voice traffic. Other ear open to the sound coming into the booth from the house. Can I run different programs on the two channels? I want my earphone side tuned for voice, and the open ear side full range, with sound level limiting. But the 9040s sound like what I've been waiting for.
You can have separate programs for each side with the jabras. I don't think you can do this with the philips but I'm not 100% sure.
My hearing is severe to profound. I have been wearing in the ear hearing aids for the last 24 years but finding it very hard to hear still. My audiologist said they can only adjust to a most neutral "zone" I learned about a lot from your channel and now realize there are much more programmable options with over the ear aids. Would the Jabra 20 or the phillips 9040 be better for profund loss of 90-110db in the >3000 frequency?
They actually both have the same options. For example, you can get the Philips 9030 in RIC or Custom form factor, they are both the same aids, just different shape and size
I’m researching hearing aids for my elderly parents. My dad has no issues using an iPhone/app but my mother does. Is a smart phone a requirement to use these hearing aids?
Not at all, they work just fine without a smart phone. The smart phone features and options are just that, options.
Can it (The Phillips) stream a Netflix movie off my iPad ? Or Audible books off my iPhone? Also I’m interested in some way to put my iPhone up front because when I’m in the backseat of a car I cannot hear the front riders especially if there is lots of road noise.
Yes they can!
Does Costco offer custom embedded fittings. I've seen a few vides on this and they fit so much better.
I'm assuming you are referring to customs. If you are, yes we do. Custom hearing aids and custom molds. We can also do encased receivers. You should watch my video on custom molds and that will clear up any confusion and answer your questions.
I had an audio gram done at Costco and the fitter said that my Right ear was mostly occluded with wax but he could see a portion of my eardrum so he went ahead and did the tests. After audio gram and ordering 9040s, I cleaned R ear with a water jet/syringe. About a week later, I went to get my new HAs fitted and now my R ear is programmed too loud. I know I can turn it down with the app or have my fitter turn down the R master volume during my follow up visit.
Should I ask my fitter to retest my R ear due to it being partially (mostly) occluded with wax and possibly non linearly affecting my results OR should I just have him do a overall volume reduction in that ear?
Thanks!
I would just do a volume adjustment. If he could see most of your tympanic membrane, there wasn't enough wax to cause any hearing loss. If your canal was impacted, that would be different.
I've got hearing loss in my right ear, but my left ear is still perfect. Do they only come in pairs or can you buy them in singles? If so, what's the price difference on a single?
They sure do come In singles. You just halve the price. You're looking at 749.00 for a single philips with the charger and everything.
@@HearingClub awesome! Thanks!
Very helpful! I have a Phillips and am on the 4th set because they keep cutting off randomly. They cut right back on, but I hear that little musical notes when they do. Costco keeps replacing them, but they still DO it occasionally. Any advice?
That's really weird. The 4th set? I have no idea what is going on. Very strange
Mine reboot like that. They are otherwise great, so I just put up with the minor annoyance.
I get the occasional reboot with mine. Not so much to be much of an annoyance. Are you connecting to a iOS or Android phone?
