Queen is probably the most educated rock band ever. They all have degrees in various subjects (including music and literature). Guitarist Brian May is actually a doctor of astrophysics. Brian also designed and built his own guitar from scratch to make his one of a kind sound.

"Somebody to Love" live 1981 in Montreal is an impressive performance and, it seems, the usual first suggestion along with "Live Aid". Queen is noted for their impeccable harmonies which are best heard on their studio recordings as they aren't easily replicated live. STL and "Love of My Life" are good examples. Thanks for listening to QUEEN!

I think it was wrong of Brian to say this at this point he had probably slept with less people than them!
he left Mary for David then left him for Joe who he was with when he made this song
Brian didnt like that he wasnt allowed to put more guitar on it
he also thought the song was sepratism
at this time Freddie wasnt doing anything to be concerned about
      Brian and Roger slept around
it wasnt until years later Brian claimed his dislike for it was Freddies life style which wasnt a concern then
he was promiscious early 80s no one heard of HIV at that time
Brian and the others were probably worried ow it would effect the band if it was too obvious Freddie was gay

Freddie was very shy offstage, but put him on stage with his friends and he is totally electric. All four members of Queen have degrees besides being amazing musicians. Freddie has a degree in graphic design and illustration, drummer Roger Taylor has one in biology, bassist John Deacon has one in electronics, and guitarist Dr. Brian May is an astrophysicist with a PhD. They have a huge catalog of songs to choose from. Here's one that not only showcases Freddie's incredible voice, but you can hear the incredible vocals of Roger Taylor.

You must've heard - at least in passing - some of Queen's greatest hits, so I'd strongly recommend their legendary 1985 Live Aid performance that's become famous as "20 minutes that changed the history of music", completely destroyed the competition and heralded their IMHO best (and sadly, last) phase. And after that, pretty much any song of their 1986 Wembley show would be a good follow-up.

Nice reaction and glad that you are reacting to Queen. A laughed at your comment about Freddie playing the piano with one hand. I'm sure by the end you realized they were miming to the album track. Brian can also be seen playing rhythm guitar at times when no rhythm guitar is being played. They all hated miming - and you see in many of their videos when they've been compelled to do this, Freddie intentionally doing things to make sure everyong knew that they were not playing live, like signing with no mic near his mouth.

This video was fun to watch, and what a great song! If you're just now cracking open Queen, DO NOT miss the live version of "Somebody To Love." One of the best versions on UA-cam, in my opinion both performance wise and video quality, is "Queen - Somebody To Love - HD Live - 1981 Montreal." Of course, as has been mentioned, his iconic concert at Wembley Stadium in 1986 is one of the most famous, along with Live Aid in 1985. As a self proclaimed "Music Junkie," I believe Queen to be one of the best and certainly most powerful rock bands ever. If you JUST react to the top songs suggested by your viewers, it'll be a long and incredible journey. The term "Rabbit Hole" is applicable. Keep up the great reactions, and glad you're expanding your musical repertoire. Best wishes from Seattle.

Hi Stacey, I've just discovered your channel and I'm subscribed. Yes! It's fantastic you're starting your journey down the Queen rabbit hole :) Queen are the GOAT'S and my favourite band. So many styles and that's just in any given song! Yeah, their harmonies are one of the bands' hallmarks and they sound incredible. I love this song, it's a real feel good tune, i loved your reaction to it and it was Freddie's tribute to rock n roll - the style of music he and the band grew up listening to. Freddie is the best frontman ever, his character personality and charisma is unmatched. Queen's studio stuff is awesome, but their live career is even better! I highly recommend you react to Queen's Somebody To Love, live in Montreal 1981 - the best rendition of that song in the 9 years they performed it. And their immortal 20 minute Live Aid set in 1985 is essential react-to material. Please do that soon. I'll look forward to your further Queen reactions :) Have a nice day.

Queen was a band that never wanted to find a niche and stick with it. They innovated and experimented throughout their run. All four band members wrote massive hits
3 of the 4 sang (and could be lead singers in any other band)
The harmonies were so unique and Brian May (guitarist) pioneered guitar orchestration in many of their songs
The hits are overplayed but The deep cuts (particularly from the 1970s) is THE stuff!!
Being a huge fan of their 70s stuff may I suggest
    Good old fashion lover boy
    You & I
    You take my breathe away
    Teo Toriatte
    Spread your wings
    Jealousy
    You’re my best friend
    Death in two legs
    Killer Queen
    The Show must go on
    Innuendo
    March of the Black Queen
Many others! And trust me, a big fan from the 70s of this group
Do the studio versions or official videos
The harmonies really shine on those vs the live versions
    Keep diggin!!

Really solid musicians in a rock group without evil drama. You can like them all through their rock journeys. Each is a different sort of songwriter, often surprising listeners. Pretty fearless in going after what they wanted to do. Yes, there are the big hits but gems that deserve more attention too. Gotta visit 70s Queen with LIAR & STONE COLD CRAZY live at the Rainbow 1974 to appreciate the spectrum of their sound into the 80s-early 90s. Big, bold, sassy & classy!

His voice is almost operatic. He could have been an opera singer. Queen the band is sometimes hidden in the shadow of a giant like Freddy but they were one of the greatest rock "bands" of all time and Freddy was blessed with having them to give him the support a great performer needs. RIP Mr. Fahrenheit!!

An underrated song of theirs, Don't Try Suicide, has a wicked bass-line. Keep Yourself Alive is another to check out. The entire Highlander soundtrack is also Queen, notables from that are One Vision, Hammer To Fall, and Who Wants To Live Forever.

And you’ll be saying that for any Queen song, that Freddie has a gorgeous voice.

Queen was a great band and Freddie was a great front man! His energy made that band, although all of the members were vital elements in their own right. If you want to listen to some amazing musical work, check out Rush. Three guys make SO much music that you will be amazed. I guarantee it!

As many others have said, Freddie is easily the greatest frontman in rock history. Queen’s “Live Aid” set at Wembley in London is widely considered the best live set in history; Freddie had 70,000 people in the palm of his hand. And you’re right, like Pink Floyd and Billy Joel, Queen is a world-class rabbit hole to dive into. SOOOO many great songs!
Queen’s last album while Freddie was alive is “Innuendo”, and the entire album is worth listening to. It was an open secret that Freddie was gay, and he died the day after he announced he had AIDS, which at the time wasn’t well-understood, and was the source of enormous prejudice. “Innuendo” was written and recorded during the time both Freddie and the band knew he was dying a slow, terrible death. It adds an almost unbearable anguish to songs from the album like “Don’t Try So Hard” or “Bijou”, or “The Show Must Go On”.
But Queen assembled a massive catalog of hits before “Innuendo”. Of course, everyone has heard the OG Grandaddy of classic rock, “Bohemian Rhapsody” (If you’ve never heard it, your musical education is considered ‘Incomplete’ until you do. The record company famously didn’t want to release it. How incredibly wrong they were!) “I’m In Love With My Car”, or “Somebody To Love”, or their arena anthem “We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions” (warning: “We Will Rock You” must be listened to with the volume set at “11”). There’s “Bicycle Race” about the famous French nude race, or “Fat Bottomed Girls”, or “Another One Bites The Dust”, and the list just goes on.
Freddie was a showman, in the best sense of that word. His last video with the band, “These Are The Days Of Our Lives”, was shot while Freddie was so sick with AIDS, he could barely stand. But his final words to his fans were a smiling, whispered “I still love you.”
I don’t say this about many bands. But because of the heavy guitar overdubs, and Freddy’s love for overlaying his own vocal harmonies (one BIG reason why Queen’s harmonies are so amazing - they’re almost all Freddie!), neither of which could be done live at that time, I don’t recommend watching live versions with Queen. Their studio cuts are far superior. The lone exception is the aforementioned “Live Aid” set.
Finally, here’s a link to a pretty unique compliment (don’t listen if you haven’t heard the song yet). Every band I’ve seen plays music while crowd is arriving to the show. It’s typically not their own music. In this clip, tens of thousands of Green Day fans are waiting for their concert to start, and “Bohemian Rhapsody” comes on. Because EVERYBODY knows this song, EVERYBODY begins singing along. It’s an organic compliment to Queen, and a magical music “moment”. ua-cam.com/video/cZnBNuqqz5g/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

You mentioned Freddie’s vocal dynamics…definitely vocal mastery. His genius played a major part in their success as a band. (An obvious statement) Queen was brilliant at creating music, that was dramatic, driven, creative and dynamic.

You say this is a fun song because you've watched this video, especifically; but, from the day I watched another video to this song on, I've been always feeling so sad whenever I hear it, for at the ending of that other video, when music is getting slower and Freddie's voice is fading away, all we can see is the image of an empty stage, with microphone shown in its foreground; no one standing there to sing.
I can't help remembering those times when I was a teenager and used to watch music videos on TV and Freddie was on top of his career.
By the way, Queen used to produce quite good official music videos; so, I recommend some of them for you: "A kind of magic"; "I want to break free"; "One vision"; "Innuendo".

Hello Stacey, I just happened to see your channel on my feed just now and found out you are barely listening to QUEEN! Congratulations on your first reaction and It's okay everyone has a first time for everything. You said a mouthful, you are correct in saying Queen's talent IS off the charts, each band member is highly educated, each band member of Queen has written music, created hits, they sing harmonies so well and you will soon learn their music does not fall into one genre, their music goes all over the spectrum of genres, you'll what I mean. I enjoy both studio and live versions of their music, so I hope you consider the studio versions then treat yourself to the live versions.
I think reacting to studio versions first would allow you to appreciate how much work they put into recording their music some of their studio videos appear like they are at a concert when actually it is a stage, they set up to look like they are performing live and then you can treat yourself to those videos of Queen playing live in front of a large audience, that are totally awesome to watch, they really do put on a great show! This was a good song to start off with and I am glad to see you enjoyed this song as much as we do! "Somebody to Love" written by Freddie and is a masterpiece, Bohemian Rhapsody" written by Freddie, another masterpiece, as well as "Radio Ga Ga" written by Roger Taylor (Drummer/ vocals), "Hammer to Fall" written by Brian May (guitarist/vocals), "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" written by Freddie, "We Will Rock You" written by Brian May, "We are the Champions" written by Freddy, "Another one bites the dust" written by the bassist John Deacon, "Your my best friend" also by John Deacon, "I Want to Break Free" also by John Deacon.
Some songs I mentioned here purposefully because some of those songs do appear on the 1985 Live Aid benefit concert where many artist and bands would perform to help raise money and awareness for the famine crisis then taking place in Ethiopia and Queen stole the show that day they performed so I think it would be good of you to react to those songs individually first so you would recognize them when you react to the Live Aid Concert of 1985, it is about 20 minutes or just a tiny bit over 20 minutes depending on which version of that concert you get, because your viewers have already suggested that concert too. The songs I listed for that concert begins with Brohemian Rhapsody and ends with We are the Champions" I enjoyed your video reaction to this song, it was great, well done! Peace. ☮

My goodness, Bohemian Rhapsody the official video (studio version) is the #1 Queen first. All their songs are different, great, they’re all absolutely fabulous on their instruments and musicality, it’ll be a great journey if you travel it. Many Queenies on UA-cam. We still love them and miss Freddie and I think we always will. It Elmo’s to see the newer generation get to know and live their sic. Live Aid, the whole concert in 1985 (their set 20 minutes) is the best live show ever, according to a whole lot if people. Their Montreal concert in 1981 is classic and another one of the best (Somebody To Love is the most watched). Every performance at Wembly, all the concerts they did there, are legendary. Plus anythinglive from their world tours. Thank you for this!
