Roger Taylor and Brian May were both accomplished singers who could have (and have) fronted their own bands, and John Deacon was his own flavor of musical expertise. Queen was a massive accumulation of talent that found a way to mesh and make it all work together.
Roger has stated that “playing the drums and singing is a nightmare”.
Roj rarely did solo vocals for Queen, but when he does, he always brings that gritty rock n roll to contrast Fred's super-smooth operatics. 😊
The greatest front man in music history. The voice, the showmanship, the energy all made Freddie the gold standard.
He surely discovered what he was put on this earth to do! Exceptional performer and showman!

Queen's secret weapon was Roger's high harmony vocals while drumming
In my opinion, Roger Taylor was definitely a secret weapon and so was John and Sir Dr.Brian May were weapons in their own extraordinary way! They are all great but Roger was pretty darn awesome! 👑🌈💙

I understand that Freddie and Roger ad lib'd the middle part as Brian broke a guitar string. You can see him walk to the back of the stage to fix it whilst they fill the gap without so much as a pause. True legends!

One of the greatest live performances ever and don't forget, that Freddie Mercury was an untrained singer, never took singing lessons. This was his favorite song.
Also, Roger Taylor's vocals are often overshadowed by Freddie's virtuoso voice, but he's a phenomenal singer himself and his contribution to Queen's sound is one of the things that makes the group so damn good.

Live Aid will blow ur mind. I was 12 and had to video it. The UK and the world were blown away and United for 1 day.
We will rock you was beyond fantastic in how he involved the audience.
Heartbreaking to think that Freddie passed away just 10 years after this amazing performance.

Nice reaction, Freddie is a perfect example of why singers in the day didn't need auto tune. Auto tune limits the improvisational aspects of a performer and Freddie was all about improvising. Every performance was different, not like today's music where every performance is the exact same.
That's the difference between a musician and an artist. Thankfully even in this time where everything is autotuned to death, there are still artists around: David Draiman, Floor Jansen, Sully Erna and Lzzy Hale to name but a few.
Freddie's favourite instrument was the audience. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can or could play the audience like him. RIP Freddie.
Now the perfect follow-up reaction would be QUEEN AT LIVE-AID 1985 (the whole 20 minutes in one go).
When a relative died of cancer in the 90's she requested only queen be played in the background during visitations.
Check out their performance at Live Aid. Everyone said they stole the show even the other performers.

Freddie he’s simply the GOAT. Great vocalist, such an amazing pianist, a good songwriter, and his stage persona. Can’t wait for your next Queen reaction. Roger Taylor (drums) is one of the best rocksingers out there, but well, he had Freddie in his band. Roger has done some solo-albums and had his own band THE CROSS, even parallel to Queen. He wrote some huge Queen-hits.
The Cross have some great tunes. Mad Bad & Dangerous to Know is a fantastic album.
Usually Freddie is an impossible act to follow or emulate. But I recommend checking out George Michael’s performance of this song at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert from 1992. It is stunning.
The Show Must Go On. You have to, have to have to see that. I remember the first time I saw the video to that just after Fred passed, I was bawling like a schoolgirl. Magnificent.

The studio version is full of great harmonies that they can’t really reproduce on stage but what they can’t do live, they make up for it by being SO FRIKKIN QUEEN!!!!!
I was lucky enough to see them as an 18 year old kid in 1982. I didn't really wanna go, as by that point in time, their music had changed considerably from stuff like this. But my older sister INSISTED I go with her. So I let her take me. I'm so glad I listened to my sis.
We were in the 3rd row right in front of Freddie's piano. Well, that is until Freddie said, "SCREW SECURITY! RUSH THE STAGE!!!" I was then about 20 people back, standing on my seat to see the show. 😂😂😂 No biggie for me, I'm over 6', but my sister was plenty p.o.'d. 😂 One of the best concerts I've ever seen to this date. Freddie had the audience in the palm of his hand all night. He owned the stage every single night. Phenomenal talent.
Little fact - there is a section where Freddie is standing, singing and walks to the front of the stage interacting with the crowd and keeps looking back to his left while Roger fills in with his great drumming. What's happening there is that Brian has broken a guitar string and rushed off to replace it, eventually you see him re-appear and the song continues. The way they cover this up and you don't even know there's a problem is amazing. Fabulous performance.

Roger Taylor's vocals are fantastic, and his drumming is superb as well. What you will find with Freddie, is that every performance, interview, film clip you see will only make it more clear what a truly amazing person he was. A genuine phenomenon who comes along once in a century or two.

The whole of this concert went up on Disney+ last week, one of the greatest performances I've ever seen from a band.

Brian May, one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time, also has a Doctorate in Astrophysics, and collaborated on projects for NASA.

Thank you for reacting to this. If you love his animation, the Live Aid full set in 1985 is legendary for that and the whole hint is mesmerizing. . But in 1975, the Bohemian Rhapsody official video will show you all his and their sounds, the harmonies there are super, and his voice…omg. He was the greatest, and I love even more Brian and Roger for keeping his legacy and Queens legacy alive to this day. Also, check out their official video of this song, it’s just as great but also very different, you can see how they actually perform those harmonies in action, and more, which Queen and Freddie always performed their songs differently live because they felt it as more fun to give that to the audience. And ys, they had the perfect chemistry for their group, they were so intelligent and had such great instincts and talents. ❤

Roger the drummer being able to play drums and sing with his head turned sideways is amazing. So underrated.
This is from their Live Aid performance, 1985. Their set was 21 minutes of unbeatable fire. Highly recommend giving it a watch, if for nothing else than a love of music.

This is my favorite version of this song! If you are interested, on Disney Plus starting today you can actually watch this entire concert from 1981 in Montreal. It’s called Queen Rock Montreal. It’s just fantastic
One thing that's not said often enough on reactions to this song is this was the 4th song of the night. They had a 21 song set with 2 encores totalling 5 more songs
This is, imo, the best live performance of a single song there is.

Actually, the studio version of this song is wonderful, but is quite different. Freddie always tried to make each live performance of a song fresh and new, and said that if people wanted to hear the studio version, they should just stay at home and play the record.
As others have said, their 20 minute set at Live Aid in 1985 is brilliant, as are all their live shows.

You can not go wrong with any song from this concert. They were touring for "The Game" album, which came June 30th 1980. I saw them at Madison Square Garden in September 1980. My favorite track from that album and song during the show is "Save Me". I highly recommend watching it.

He was just magical. Owned the stage for sure. When I was a kid I would be dancing and singing along. Then later on when I was tired I'd put on the pink Floyd and dream away, priceless

As of now, I have lived, breathed & loved Queen & Freddie Mercury for about 15 years. All 4 of these guys are literal geniuses: an electrical engineer, a PhD of Astrophysics, and an almost dentist. The 3 were accompanied by a legendary graphic designer from Ealing College with a 3.5-4 octave range who played the guitar, piano, drums and audience seamlessly and flawlessly.
I cannot ever listen to another Freddie Mercury song or video for the first time because I've seen them all countless times. The next best thing is watching somebody else hear & see him for the first time. The joy I just witnessed on your face at 2:04 actually brought tears to my eyes! I'm sure you don't believe that, but it's true. Welcome to Queen and Freddie Mercury!
***But *** I want to let you know something since you are watching this version: this concert almost never came about. The band hired the recording company to video the concert. Queen's concerts were known for audience participation and Freddie was a MASTER. However, once the concert was edited & put together, the company edited out a LOT of audience participation. They were LIVID. They complained to get the audience back in the concert, but somehow it had gotten wiped out or thrown out. So when Freddie is telling the audience to sing and stomp, you can barely hear them at all. This is NOT how it happened and it's certainly NOT what Queen wanted. Especially when Freddie says "do it with me!" and "keep it going!" it almost sounds like nobody is doing it or nobody's even paying attention. This is incorrect, however. Just thought you may want to consider that.
I turned 60 this past December , I have seen a ton of band in my life , live ...... no other band /lead singer comes close to Freddie and Queen ....G.O.A.T..

In the history of rock, the 80s and 90s were incredible, because they were so talented, and Queen and Freddy were always one of the best, the songs they put forward were always inspiring
GREAT reaction, all of us who got to witness the great rock band Queen throughout the Freddie Mercury years are so blessed.
I’m an old man of 61, but I was lucky enough to see Queen live in New York City (Madison Square Garden) back in 1976 & 1978. I was a teenager, but loved Queen from back in the early 1970s. Those two shows I witnessed live were the 2 greatest concerts I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been to a lot of concerts.
Freddie’s voice
Was 2nd to none when it comes to rock vocalists. He had so much range, and it was all effortless as you stated.
He was also a humble guy, I read a quote of his, he allegedly replied to the question, “what’s it like being the world’s greatest rock singer ?”, he replied, “I don’t know, go ask Steve Perry”.
They said that the quote can’t be proven to have ever been asked and answered that way. But Mercury was a humble guy. Also had the confidence of a great rock singer, so the quote could be made up.
Saw them three times in the 70's. Thats what I saw. Every song they played was so amazing. His banter with the audience was so amazing.
Isn't it weird that you can feel somehow musically fulfilled by a band so way before your time? Their music is timeless, classic, unique... seriously something that everyone should experience at least once. I love how much they stir all the feelings in you, watching them for the first time :)
Freddie Mercury is my all time favorite vocalist. And Brian May's tone is my all time favorite guitar tone.

Back then the live concerts are what sold records. The expectation of fans was an outstanding live concert performance.
I was indoctrinated by their first single "Killer Queen". I saw them 6 times in the late 70s and early 80s. This has been my favorite band since then. I'm 61 now and am delighted by Stacy's reactions. If you want to give me a shout, I'll gladly share some 35mm shots I took over the years. The drummer that you are enamored with is Roger Meadows Taylor. He's the high voice in Bohemian Rhapsody. You need to see the movie of the same name. No other band has had the impact on my life, nor made me question my own sexuality.
Beauty comes in many forms. But the way it manifested collectively in the person of Freddie Mercury is, was, and forever will be an inspiration.
DO NOT MISTAKE the 2nd place loser of a shit show of talent as an acceptable place holder. With all due respect to John, Brian, and Roger, there is not and will never be another worthy of his crown.

Fantastic reaction to one of Queen's biggest hits and their best live version of it! It's a beautiful song and Freddie wrote it as a tribute to Aretha Franklin & gospel music. This was song number 4 of 20+ songs they did at this concert, it's one of their most iconic performances. Freddie is the absolute best, there can be only one! Queen are the greatest, in the studio & live. Yeah Roger Taylor the drummer is awesome and to play drums and sing simultaneously is incredible. Yeah he's done a few solo albums and is such a talented musician in his own right. Please check out for the channel from this same concert; Queen live in Montreal 1981, him doing some more playing drums and singing at the same time in his song 'I'm In Love With My Car' - it's mesmerising! + Queen's immortal 20 minute set at Live Aid in 1985, they gave the performance of a lifetime!

Was fortunate to grow up in this era of music and live shows that, sadly, will likely never be seen again. So many great bands, Queen was certainly one of the best. And yes, Roger Taylor is a fabulous vocalist, all were stellar musicians. No auto tune lip sync. They worked hard perfecting their sound which was frequently better live than in studio.
The Queen rabbit hole is unbelievably deep and wide. They have been my favorite since I was a kid in the 70’s. I saw this tour. It was my first concert ever. 1980. Enjoy the journey!

So if you beleive this is a studio version, listen to the real studio version;). Just a little more perfect, although this is one of the best life performances of all time.
If you would like to have an impression of the huge repertoire of Queen, listen to the following songs, as they are quite different in style (you can listen to some of them alone ;)
Radio GaGa, Crazy little thing Called Love, Fat Bottomed Girls, We are the champions, Another One Bites the Dust, Love of My Life, Show Must Go On, Hammer to Fall. And of course don't miss: Bohemian Rhapsody. For the latter you have to know that many harmonies are only Freddies Voice, Bohemian Rhapsody cannot be played life, because you would need 10 or 16 Freddies for the harmonies.
Not one of the songs is like the others, so if you don't like one of them, you'll like the others.
The selection above is extremely small, I tried to pick some of the best who are quite different.
I totally agree that Queen is unique, even if there are other good bands.
There are artist and then there are masters of their craft, Freddie is a true master of his craft.
The minor key, that is what makes your eyes well-up in tears, Shostakovich used it to tap our emotions, he wrote Leningrad Symphony in A Minor, you would love that.
The only frontman who could wear this t-shirt with authenticity. Seen Queen live back in '86.

Read the lyrics. This performance always makes me cry. You can tell Freddie wrote this song because he pours his entire soul to it. He directly talks to God about why he's so lonely with nobody to love. RIP A LEGEND
You feel the same thing I felt when I heard his voice at age 11. There are people you know as absolute stars when you see and hear them. He left us way, way, way too soon.
You should check out Marc Martel. He sang the songs in the Movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" He sounds exactly like Freddie. His "Under Pressure" and "Who Wants to Live Forever" are mind blowing. He also does Luciano Pavarotti and Freddie Mercury singing ‘Nessun dorma’ Called "The Mercurotti"

Roger, drummer and Brian, guitarist continues today as Queen+Adam Lambert (singer) after their long-time founder and bassist, John Deacon threaten to sue them because they were still using original band name, Queen many years after Freddie's death. John retired from the band, but still has a say in band's business. Because at the beginning of Queen in mid-70s, all 4 original members agree to have an equal say in band's business. Brian and Roger had another singer named Paul Rodgers of Bad Company to see for them. Then when Fox had American Idol as its series, Adam Lambert jammed with Queen (Brian & Roger) during 2-day finale. Many years later, Adam joined them as their singer. But John felt that both Roger and Brian were disrespecting Freddie's memory having Queen with Adam. They worked it out for the best for everyone.

Queen was the first band i come to love for real. Freddie is out of this world. Their first two albums is my favourit albums. But almost everything they did where amazing. Thank you for this beautiful reaction Stacy!❤❤❤
freddie was a natural born performer and in my opinion the best frontman a band has ever had and no one will ever be able to recreate what he could do with a crowd or song in general. He made it look effortless and thats cos for him, it was.

Queen are the benchmark for live performance & musicianship. As has been already mentioned their Live Aid performance is a must for many reasons. It was a charity concert so the audience was mixed, Queen where not on the bill when the tickets were sold, but by the end of the 20 minute set you'd think from the crowd reaction that you'd just watched a Queen concert. There's a documentary called something like "20 minutes that changed rock history" about this performance.
Both Brian May (guitar) and Roger Taylor (drums) are successful lead men in their own rights, but Roger possesses a powerful falsetto (high) range which Freddie often referred to as the "Dog Whistle". The very high "Galileo"s in Bohemian Rhapsody are all Roger. To hear that range live check out "In the lap of the gods" from around 1974 (there's also a track called "In the lap of the gods (revisited)" which is a different song. For an example of their musical synergy look no further than "White Queen" from Hammersmith Odeon.
Singing drummers do exist (Don Henley from Eagles), but a modern day specialist of this skill is Paulina Villarreal from a band called The Warning - 3 sisters from Mexico who are the real deal. Their channel is full of content and anything from their Teatro Metropolitan show in 2022 is top quality. Paulina sings lead on a number of their songs while beating the living hell out of her drum kit - Dust to Dust & 23 are two prime examples.
