      I've been trying to decide on the Copper Spur vs the Tiger Wall for use When I needed a freestanding tent. Just watched Dan's video when it came out. Pulled the trigger on the Tiger Wall last night. Could of used your video yesterday Devin......so props to Becker on this one!
      All joking aside, can either of you comment on how easy/hard it is to use the Tiger Wall on rock or even loose sand where it is only semi free standing? I decided on less weight over the convenience of a totally free standing tent for these occasions. I probably should have asked this question before making the purchase.
      Would love to hear either one of your thoughts. Thanks to both of you. Keep the videos coming!

    I own the Copper Spur UL 2 Platinum and I can vouch for your review being accurate. It still blows my mind that western based tent designers have no clue about condensation management. If a tent does not possess huge ventilation ports while fully rigged for wind driven rain, that tent is largely a waste of money in the humid east, where 2 / 3 of the American population lives.

    I have the Tiger Wall UL2 and the Fly Creek UL1. The Fly Creek is okay, but I don’t like it for all the same reasons you stated, plus I found the 1-person version makes me feel claustrophobic. I have the Copper Spur HV UL2 in the olive green colour, which was slightly more expensive but chosen because it blends in with surrounding foliage. To protect the floor I found it necessary to make my own ground sheet out of RIP Stop fabric to protect my investment and add a little value thermally.

    I was so stoked when i was able to pick up the fly creek 2 mtn glow version for $200 brand new at REI outlet. Then i used it, and I HATED the front vestibule. I cant imagine ever sharing that with another person due to having to crawl around to get on/out. I manged to snag a copper spur mtn glo at a nice discount when they redesigned it. Funny thing is I've yet to use it: it's been used by others when backpacking or kayaking with me. They enjoyed the tent tho.

    i have the tiger wall platinum... pretty fantastic by all counts... 41oz packed with the footprint and its just beautifully constructed. amazing ventilation, great guy out points, awesome stakes, great storage. my only gripe with it is the zipper gets caught in the zipper guard while zipping closed from inside the tent a lot and its hard to prevent. only thing id change is the color of the fly, wish i could order a tan one or dark blue like the tub and the large gody colored big agnes logo is ugly.

Looking for the best lightest 4 person family backpacking tent, so far I see the “Big Agnus Copper Spur HV UL4 Tent 4 person and 3 season” that is only 5lbs 8 oz for a 4 person tent! Do you think this is the best light family backpacking tent option for 4 person or do you think there is a better one? I have a wife and 3 small kiddos to stuff in there. It’s not cheap at $650. I’ve had the Fly Creek UL2 for about six years and love that tent. I think the older model is better because it has those side pull outs you mentioned the newer model doesn’t have. I share it with my partner and we describe it as being like sardines in a can but we don’t mind haha. I think the front entrance is something people either hate or don’t mind and I’m in the don’t mind camp. Overall, I haven’t had any issues with it. Just my two cents
    Thanks for the vid!

      I was going to say the same - my older Fly Creek UL2 has the side pull outs. They are also the only part that has failed on the tent (they ripped off in some winds - maybe that's why they don't have them anymore.) Big Agnes repaired it for free, but I got my Duplex (100% my favorite) shortly thereafter and have never gone back to the Big Agnes. That tunnel design drove me crazy - not a fan of the vestibule.

    I have the Tiger Wall UL2 and absolutely love it. I bought the footprint which is totally worth it. Personally I wouldn’t mind paying a little more if it was included; but I get why they sell it separately. Not everyone wants it and it does add 4 oz to the weight if you’re a gram weenie. I’m probably going to pick up a Copper Spur 3 (and footprint) soon to use for car camping and a longer stay base camp tent. I like the trekking pole shelter mod. I have a Duplex from Z Packs too; depending on the trip it’s about 50/50 which tent I take. They both set up in the same amount of time but the Duplex is like half the weight. It’s only downside is it doesn’t pack up as small and being a trekking pole tent; if I want to move it I have to completely break it down and set it up again. Tiger Wall I can pull the ground stakes and pick the whole thing up and move it wherever I want. I’m a gear nerd so forgive my ramblings.

    The 2 person Cooper Spur does weigh more than other ultralight/ lightweight tents; however, it is NOT more bulky as the tent body and rain fly are more compact than a Zpacks Duplex (regular size), and folds up/ stuffs super small!

    Funny... agree with you mostly as we have had ALL 3 of these. We started with the Fly Creek UL2, but when it arrived we realized it was too small for 2 people. Hubby used it on a weekend trip solo and hated it, too claustraphobic. So we returned it to REI for the Copper Spur 2. Love that one, but we adopted a dog this summer and needed more space so we bought the Tiger Wall UL3 which worked perfectly for the 3 of us. All in all, we actually like the Tiger Wall best and it weights a few ounces less than the Copper Spur 2, so win win. So we still have 2 BA tents and love them both but the Tiger Wall may see the most use unless we loan the other one to a friend.

    I used to own a Big Agnes Seedhouse SL1 (which I think the Fly Creek may have replaced?) and found it to be a pretty darn good single person tent. I didn't experience any of the draw-backs mentioned in the vid and I was in all kinds of weather. Getting in and out of it-I found a little constrictive and inconvenient. That was my only gripe. I used it for an entire Summer pedaling across the country. So, when it was stolen, I went with the BA Copper Spur UL2, that and I didn't mind the extra weight as I now travel by motorcycle (as opposed to a bicycle). What's another pound or two? I find it much easier to get in and out of, the extra room inside is much appreciated as is the extra room in the vestibule (I have/want to carry extra gear on a motorcycle). As for the awning? I haven't used that feature. If it was wider at the connection to the tent, so as to perhaps keep the entrance dry(er) when it rains, like say, a proper porch roof-I might be more appreciative. As it is, I like it a lot! If I needed a tent for two, I'd go for the UL3.

Orange is too attention-seeking if you want stealth and the while I like the green, for that reason, it is dour inside. I won’t pick a favorite between the two because I use them for different trips, but the BA has a lot of bells an whistles that are simply glorious. It’s tapered so the foot area is made for feet, and that makes the body area extra luxurious. The MSR is a rectangle, which is simply a different config and without all the storage options inside. As a side note, my Copper Spur has the Mountain Glo option, which I also really like for not many additional grams.

    Hey Devin, I'm really really curious about your opinion on backpacking with a dog in the copper spur? Do you think the tent floor is to fragile? Or would it hold up?

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  2 роки тому +1

      It’s not the most robust floor for a tent. A good option to consider is get one of those pocket blanket type things from Amazon and put that down on top of the tent floor inside and that will help protect the tent.

    You have a Big Agnes problem. Wanna talk bud? 🤣 Great comparison! I have a Big Agnes Mtn Glo 2P. I love it but if I bought again I'd spend the bucks for the lighter one.

    The tiger wall zipper snags badddd. Is the copper spur any better? NOTE: im aware of the modifications you can do to fix this, but heres an idea, when big anges is already re releasing an entirely updated version for environmental sustainability, they could have fixed the problem

      Copper spur does not snag, so long as you pull the top zipper first

      There used to be a line you attached from the inner tent mesh on the walls to the rain fly that helped with making the tent more stable. Those got removed on the solution dye model. So now the rain fly side wall guy lines don’t do anything to help stabilize the tent in heavy wind.

    Big Agnes tents are really worth the money. We got the "Manzanares HV SL3 mtnGLO" when it was on sale, two years ago and we are really happy with it. The 3 person option is a little bit on the luxury side of things but it makes life in the tent much more enjoyable.
    Great review by the way.

    I've read all the replies B4 composing the following.
    Throughout this video, I've mentally been comparing each tent to my own Hilleberg Enan. None of the Big Agnes tents are comparable or even in the same class. None of the Big Agnes tents can be pitched as quickly as the Enan, especially in strong gusty winds or provide the bomb-proof shelter of any Hilleberg. I'll never again have to struggle with trying to attach the fly to a tent when it's gusty windy. This is merely my opinion.

    Why did two channels do a video with almost identical titles 8 months ago? Was this video and the other sponsored by Big Agnes?

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  2 роки тому

      Pure coincidence. This was not sponsored in any way. If a video is sponsored, you’ll hear me specifically call out in the video that it’s sponsored, and you’d see a “paid promotion” banner show on the video.

    The one that’s cheapest is best because it just simply doesn’t fucking matter haha. I think their main tents are so over priced it’s insane. I got a discounted discontinued model (Big Agnes
    Manzanares HV SL1 mtnGLO Tent) for $250. I saved roughly $100 vs retail price. Lifetime warranty and saving up to $300 for an added 1-1.5lbs is well worth it to me. I won’t notice an extra 2 lbs while hiking when it’s all said and done haha. Can you tell the different between a 38 lb pack and 40 lb pack? Nope haha.
