Great video and I like your humor. I purchased the Tiger Wall at REI and returned a month later and exchanged it for the Copper Spur UL 2. As you mentioned the CS has much more room. My scale came out to 3 pounds even. I don't plan on using the awning. Plus the free standing feature one can pick up the tent and move it.

Picked up the Cupper Spur to hike the GR20 with a buddy next summer! Will definite be a tight fit, but I plan on using this after that for a long time for just myself. Great humor and great information!
Great comparison video! New Subscriber! Found your video from researching an upgrade from my REI Half-Dome 2p. The REI HD2 has been great for 10 years+. It worked well when me/my son were in Cub Scouts because we did more car-camping style camp outs. Now in Boy Scouts, we hike-camp a lot more. While we can share a tent, I prefer my own. I think you sold me on the Copper Spur. We sometimes set-up on tent platforms, so free-standing is worth the weight/price.

Very great review ! I choose the Copper Spur because of the event aeration and it’s roomier but with the bikepacking model with its small poles, the bathtub is taller too than the BA Tiger.
Great review! I’ve use both tent for several times and found the TigerWall is my goto tent, it's much lighter than the CopperSpur, the space of the head end is not that much different and the huge space of the foot end is not a deal breaker. Both tent need to stake out two vestibules and even more points to get a nice pitch, so I don't care if it's free standing or semi-free standing. I think the TigerWall have the best space to weight ratio in its sort of type tents.
True! Though a bit more tie downs (because of the single pole on one side) which would maybe get you more wet during set up yeah? Whereas the Copper Spur pole structure would provide more protection. Great Comparison and review! I bought the Copper Spur HV UL3 Long (for two people) and I can't tell you how much the minimal extra weight and pack space is worth it. It is so nice for rainy days to have room inside to move around. I agree with wind for the awning but it is nice to be able to cook underneath it when it is raining and I have had no issues with rain leaking off the sides into the tent. I love it so much that I'm eying the UL2 for single backpacking.
Great review! I own the Copper spur, both 1p and 2p (olive and orange). The ventilation and roomieness were the big points for me. I've had the tents both in summer and winter.
Hi Stumbled across your video, Well made, I've Hiked PCT,AT, and CDT and my tent of choice was the Big Agnes Flycreek HV UL3, I love the extra room and the weight is very similar to the 2. Plus this is my home for 6 months , I had planned to Hike the Florida trail so Brought the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL3 again a 3 man and i love it, love the two doors and yes i use the Porch which is great on a warm evening , Haven't used in wet storms but have had a few windy nights SO just a 3 man tent for a solo hiker but all my gear fits inside.. But im yet to take my dog, Like you i always swear by the footprint and if its really Crappy ground i sometime put a layer of tyvek inside Havnt had a puncture in my Pad yet!! (but over kill) Once again great video snailtrainer
Nice thank you! The veranda vestibule setup functions best as a cooking area in bad weather. Having two sides to work with improves your chances of being able to cook in the lee of the prevailing wind. But if this is on your mind, I agree with the reviewer when suggesting that buyers always size UP on the CSHVUL series. Not just because of the 25 inch pad problem (good call!). But because if you are likely to be tent bound in bad weather, cooking out of this amazing tent, you will want and need the extra space. I own three CSHVUL2s and everyone on my trips gets his or her own tent…
I went thru this same thinking in 2020. I landed on on the tw ul3 because I found it on sale cheaper then a new ul2 or copper spur. I also found I really like the lighter weight of the tw. it is still my go to 2 person ul hiking tent, my number one issue I discovered is need 2 25 inch sleeping pads.(hitting 40 means no more 20 inch pads, its now a deal breaker)
Adding more weight, but definitely more comfortable. Wide mattress pads feel more luxurious. I try to provide enough information so people can make the decision that’s best for them based on their needs. Glad you found your best set up. Thanks for leaving a comment!

To my understanding, both tents tend to absorb water (though I don't know if they are in worse in this regard than for other tent brands). Do you have any experience with the platinum version of the Copper Spur or any insights on major differences? Again, thank you for the video, I'll be there for the next one.
Thank you! I didn't get the opportunity to try them in rainy conditions. I have read that both tents are pretty good in the rain, however, some have complained that there is some splash back on the Tiger Wall, especially if the ground around the tent was already wet/saturated. Overall, most of the complaints seemed to be related to where they pitched their tent. I haven't used the platinum but will say it's only worth looking at if you really need to save an extra half pound. Overall, you'd have to be extra careful with it as the materials are a bit thinner. You'll have to weigh if that extra care is worth it. Also, when you start to get into that price point, there may be better options out there if you are doing a thru-hike. If you are car camping, my recommendation would be to skip the platinum and save a bit of money.
I like the bit of added space on the Copperspur. I,m 73 looking for a new tent to do some of the JMT. At my age I like a few comforts at night and a bit more room is something I look for, If I need to pack 8 oz more...thats ok for me.

I looked on the REI website yesterday - did a comparison between the two and I honestly can't see why StS is so expensive. The Copper wins hands down in price and weight.
Does your REI have the REI Co-Op Quarter Dome SL 2 online? I'd be a bit concerned about the Telos if you are carrying all that weight by yourself. Depending, of course, on how much you plan to hike each day with it on your back.
Excellent video! I have the Naturehike Cloud Up 2 tent and the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 and for the price I can say that it’s incredible how competitive the Naturehike is, it costs 1/4 the price of the Big Agnes, you should review it. It has more surface on the floor in spite of height, but it’s convenient when you sleep, not when you get dressed, and it includes footprint. I have used it for 2 years and just the zippers have the usual problems. It’s made of the same silicone fabric and its weight is 3 pounds. I highly recommend it. Regards from Chile!

Naturehike seems to be making some decent low priced stuff. I found an almost new Copper Spur UL2 on ebay and snagged that, but I was looking at the Naturehike. I did buy their down sleeping bag. I live in a pretty warm climate and that one should be enough for now.

I got the shorter "Biking" poles with the Copper Spur for my motorcycle camping trips. The shorter length (fatter pole bundle) gives me more options in choosing how to pack it.
Great breakdown, thanks. I have the bikepack versions of both. Don’t love either but neither are bad, just not great. But what tent is? The Tigerwall is just a better version of the Fly Creek so great for backpacking. The Copper Spur is nice for kayaking where freestanding is nice. The MSR Freelite (2015) is roomier at 50” wide at both ends but shorter in height. No fist pumps of victory!😂
On the PCT and sending home an Xmid pro 1 for a copper spur long. Even on dry mostly nights my foot box of my quilt touches the wall of the Xmid and gets damp. Xmid is a great tent..very light but the copper spur comes in the long version.
I'm looking for my first tent, for the upcomming holiday and future trekking purposes, and i find it very hard to pick a tent lol! I thought i was settled on the Copper Spur UL2, but the price + price of foot print just seem so expensive it's hard to make the jump. If it could last 10 years i think that would justify the price a bit. One tiny nit pick is i'm not a fan of the color options. Looking at reviews and tests it seems there are other good UL choices, they are just not available in my country :P Awesome humor btw!
@@packtravelhike Denmark:-) I ended up getting the copper spur UL2 after much consideration, and a footprint, even if it is overprised, but im going trekking soon so it was just the easiest solution. Total It ended up costing around 740$(converted from dkk)I had other tents in mind, but they where either unavaible or overprised as well.
Cooper spur all day, it’s worth the extra $ and is just everything you want and need it can fit you and gear with ease light enough and sets up fast, I’m on my second one and will buy it again when the time comes
At the time of writing this there appears to be a $10 different between the two on the Big Agnes website. My guess is that this price difference is because the Copper Spur has grommet holes with buckles for the rain fly to clip into on all four corners, while the Tiger Wall (being a semi-freestanding), I believe, only has 3 grommet holes with buckles (with stake holes in the other two corners).
I've got the copper spur 1 in olive green , I'm 6'5" and I find it roomy . Bit too bright inside compared to my old tunnel tent so yeah the Tiger wall would let way too much light through for me. Really like the olive green colour , just wish it would block more outside light . As for letting a dog inside...... well I've seen in other videos they tend to put holes in the floor with their claws , unintentionally of course. Having a footprint doesn't help ......
I can't seem to find the specs showing the length of the poles of each of these models when they are broken down. I will e using this tent for Bikepacking and Motorcycle camping and want to know if I have room for the bulkier packed Copper Spur. Thanks
One more odd con item is that the Copper Spur does not come with enough tent stakes to fully stake out the tent. It needs at least 6 stakes and comes with only 4. If you stake out the vestibules into “awning mode,” that will take 8 stakes total. That’s not a big deal, but knowing that ahead of time is very helpful. With 4 stakes, you can only stake out the corners and will not have vestibules. That could make a big difference, if you counted on having vestibules for your pack.
I'm in the market for a new tent and really wanted to try the Copper Spur, but the fact that it can't fit two 25" pads is a kind of a deal breaker for me. I'm bummed about that.
@@packtravelhike That's true. Unfortunately it's heavier and costs even $100 more (if I remember right). Not sure I can justify it. :) Good-looking tent, though.
The Tiger Wall feels a bit more fragile but I’m sure both would hold up fine. Because they are ultra light tents you should always be extra careful as you are sacrificing durability for weight.
As a tall-ish person I feel like I value extra room a lot more than others. Not having my head or feet touch the side of the tent and being able to comfortably sit up are not guaranteed. Sadly limits otherwise great tents and adds weight.
I have to be honest. I own a version 2 of the copper spur in a single person tent. I love it and will not give it up in spite of the fact that I moved on to dyneema. I also have two sleeping pads from them. That said, as evidenced very clearly by the cost of foot prints, Big Agnes has completely lost thier way going back years now. They started with the very best design at a sick low weight and have never reached even close to that level again. Now they use gimmicks like the awning....because people hang out so much in their tents. The sun beats through all this nylon. They enter the dyneema market....sort of. Use a mix of the absolute trash of dyneema weight fabric (omg the scout) and nylon and then jack the price up to ungodly levels...far beyond an entire good dyneema tent. They had a 700.00 pack for gods sake and then told the world they had such nonsense. The absolute arrogance of a company to sell a flat piece of nylon for 70.00 and then to sell you the exact unchanged in any way same piece of nylon under a more expensive tent for 10.00 more makes me feel like an idiot even looking at their gear. I saw (7/14)that it appeared they got there minds right and changed the price back to the 70.00 outrageous price. There is a huge difference between paying big for gear that is made of expensive materials or has unique design and just paying through the nose for cheap ass garbage. I'm reminded of the old boxers just swinging for the fences looking for one more big win. BA is just swinging now. I think the better recommendation for this type of tent would be at Nemo. Sorry BA
Love my Copper Spur 2p. Door is sort of gimmicky, zippers are difficult. Don't know what but I would like to see a different door design. I have had for 2 years now and would buy the same tent again. Maybe in olive this time. Great multi-purpose tent. Nice job tent dude. Thanks for the work! 👴

For sure! The little luxuries help if you are forced to stay in your tent for a decent part of the day.

Drive around, look for an active construction site, walk up and ask them if you could have a small piece of Tyvek. Works great as a footprint.

I got the shorter "Biking" poles with the Copper Spur for my motorcycle camping trips. The shorter length (fatter pole bundle) gives me more options in choosing how to pack it.

@@packtravelhike I do bike with the short poles. The regular poles are too long to fit in the saddle bags I use.
Great breakdown, thanks. I have the bikepack versions of both. Don’t love either but neither are bad, just not great. But what tent is? The Tigerwall is just a better version of the Fly Creek so great for backpacking. The Copper Spur is nice for kayaking where freestanding is nice. The MSR Freelite (2015) is roomier at 50” wide at both ends but shorter in height. No fist pumps of victory!😂

On the PCT and sending home an Xmid pro 1 for a copper spur long. Even on dry mostly nights my foot box of my quilt touches the wall of the Xmid and gets damp. Xmid is a great tent..very light but the copper spur comes in the long version.

I'm looking for my first tent, for the upcomming holiday and future trekking purposes, and i find it very hard to pick a tent lol! I thought i was settled on the Copper Spur UL2, but the price + price of foot print just seem so expensive it's hard to make the jump. If it could last 10 years i think that would justify the price a bit.
One tiny nit pick is i'm not a fan of the color options.
Looking at reviews and tests it seems there are other good UL choices, they are just not available in my country :P

@@packtravelhike Denmark:-) I ended up getting the copper spur UL2 after much consideration, and a footprint, even if it is overprised, but im going trekking soon so it was just the easiest solution. Total It ended up costing around 740$(converted from dkk)I had other tents in mind, but they where either unavaible or overprised as well.

Cooper spur all day, it’s worth the extra $ and is just everything you want and need it can fit you and gear with ease light enough and sets up fast, I’m on my second one and will buy it again when the time comes

Good video, but why does the tiger wall foot print way more then the copper spur?
At the time of writing this there appears to be a $10 different between the two on the Big Agnes website. My guess is that this price difference is because the Copper Spur has grommet holes with buckles for the rain fly to clip into on all four corners, while the Tiger Wall (being a semi-freestanding), I believe, only has 3 grommet holes with buckles (with stake holes in the other two corners).
I've got the copper spur 1 in olive green , I'm 6'5" and I find it roomy . Bit too bright inside compared to my old tunnel tent so yeah the Tiger wall would let way too much light through for me. Really like the olive green colour , just wish it would block more outside light .
As for letting a dog inside...... well I've seen in other videos they tend to put holes in the floor with their claws , unintentionally of course. Having a footprint doesn't help ......
So I suppose the solution would be an eye mask and a fake dog 😉
I can't seem to find the specs showing the length of the poles of each of these models when they are broken down. I will e using this tent for Bikepacking and Motorcycle camping and want to know if I have room for the bulkier packed Copper Spur. Thanks
They make one specifically for that called the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 Bikepack Tent!
You said you were 5,11”. How well did you fit length wise in the Copper Spur? I’m trying to decide if I should get the regular or the long version.
Felt very comfortable space wise, but not much room for storage at your feet if you were planning on that.
One more odd con item is that the Copper Spur does not come with enough tent stakes to fully stake out the tent. It needs at least 6 stakes and comes with only 4. If you stake out the vestibules into “awning mode,” that will take 8 stakes total. That’s not a big deal, but knowing that ahead of time is very helpful. With 4 stakes, you can only stake out the corners and will not have vestibules. That could make a big difference, if you counted on having vestibules for your pack.

I'm in the market for a new tent and really wanted to try the Copper Spur, but the fact that it can't fit two 25" pads is a kind of a deal breaker for me. I'm bummed about that.

The Tiger Wall feels a bit more fragile but I’m sure both would hold up fine. Because they are ultra light tents you should always be extra careful as you are sacrificing durability for weight.
As a tall-ish person I feel like I value extra room a lot more than others. Not having my head or feet touch the side of the tent and being able to comfortably sit up are not guaranteed. Sadly limits otherwise great tents and adds weight.

The tiger wall UL 2 isn't as good as the Mountain Hardware Strato UL 2. The Strato is bigger/roomier and lighter.

I have to be honest. I own a version 2 of the copper spur in a single person tent. I love it and will not give it up in spite of the fact that I moved on to dyneema. I also have two sleeping pads from them. That said, as evidenced very clearly by the cost of foot prints, Big Agnes has completely lost thier way going back years now. They started with the very best design at a sick low weight and have never reached even close to that level again. Now they use gimmicks like the awning....because people hang out so much in their tents. The sun beats through all this nylon.
They enter the dyneema market....sort of. Use a mix of the absolute trash of dyneema weight fabric (omg the scout) and nylon and then jack the price up to ungodly levels...far beyond an entire good dyneema tent. They had a 700.00 pack for gods sake and then told the world they had such nonsense. The absolute arrogance of a company to sell a flat piece of nylon for 70.00 and then to sell you the exact unchanged in any way same piece of nylon under a more expensive tent for 10.00 more makes me feel like an idiot even looking at their gear. I saw (7/14)that it appeared they got there minds right and changed the price back to the 70.00 outrageous price. There is a huge difference between paying big for gear that is made of expensive materials or has unique design and just paying through the nose for cheap ass garbage. I'm reminded of the old boxers just swinging for the fences looking for one more big win. BA is just swinging now.
I think the better recommendation for this type of tent would be at Nemo.

Today all tents are made in China if you buy it from American reseller you will just pay it more.
Unless the tent is made from Dyneema or the tent comes with a large Dyneema fly, save your money.
Love my Copper Spur 2p. Door is sort of gimmicky, zippers are difficult. Don't know what but I would like to see a different door design. I have had for 2 years now and would buy the same tent again. Maybe in olive this time. Great multi-purpose tent. Nice job tent dude. Thanks for the work! 👴

Looks like the price fluctuates. At the time of making the video it was $499 at Amazon link in the description.
REI had them for $317 around July 4, 2024.
