    Six Moon Designs Skyscape Trekker w/ 5 bend carbon fiber poles has been my go-to for a few years now. It's around 2 lbs for tent, groundcloth, tent, poles, and stuff sack, and has a lot of room. Plus I can open up both sides and have an almost 360 degree view.

      Woah I've never seen that brand before. Love how much ventilation you can get through it. That'd be amazing in summer!

    That's an expensive tent! But if you like it, you can afford/justify affording it, and suits your needs and purposes..then its money well spent. Totally agree with you, it's only expensive if you dont use it. Great post! Greetings from the UK! 😊 👍

    My big gripe with Big Agnes has always been that they seem to only make tents for short people. As a 195cm (6'4") Dutchman I never fit in them and I'm pretty sure the same goes for this one when I look at the sizes and sloping walls.
    That's a general problem I have with most UL tents btw. But it was especially funny when I worked in the outdoor retail industry and Big Agnes came to show their tents. One after the other of my colleagues came to try them and ran into the same issue. We sold them for a couple of years but the majority of our clients just didn't fit.

      BA's specs show 223cm length is that misleading because of the walls or do you think it'd fit me (6ft / 183cm)? thanks

      @JaccoSW they make a 'long' in the UL2/UL3 that's 244, it's not bikepacking sized poles though.

      feel ya! They have the "Blacktail 2 --> its not very light at 2,25 kg, but its 229 long.

    Another great review. I’m another one with the Nature Hike (cloud up 2) the 1.6kg version. About 240 dollars and the poles are 400mm long.
    I just carry the poles separately in my half frame bag.
    I was tossing up getting a more expensive tent but was worried I wouldn’t use it enough to justify the expense.
    Only used the tent once so far and really can’t compare it to other lightweight tents cause this is the first one I’ve owned but it seemed to work well and so far I’m happy with it. Really the best part now that I own a tent and the other camping bits and pieces is planning all the trips I’m going to take. 😁

    I use a nylon Miltec Recom with substituted and shortened carbon fibre rods packed in a dry bag and Salsa mount. The best reason I like it besides affordability is its resistance to wind and light blockout. Not lightweight but the carbon rods will bring it down to 1.5kg. All about good sleep otherwise it's dead weight.

    It looks like having X-Mid 1P tent I have a luxury item (small package, yet a ton of space) at half of the price :-). However, they are not in the same category, BA is freestanding tent.

    Any ideas or recommendations on spacing? Its tightly attached to my handle bar which is why I can only put my hands in the hoods or the drops. Some spacing would be great to use the tops of the handle bar. Thanks!

    I bought a BA Fly Creek UL 2 at the beginning of lock down I like it 1 kg easy to pitch and it just works loads of room inside and you can sit up easily. First time pitching it was fun in a gale but I got it up and the more you do it the better you become. Now it's a breeze no matter the conditions. I'd say it's a good bike packer ticks all boxes for me and I go touring a lot

    I've got the 2 man version and looking forward to christening it in January. I couldbn't justify the footprint, but I've seen a couple of specials where they have thrown one in for free. Instead I purchased a $15 piece of light tarp which should do the job just fine.
    On another note, nice cycling cap. What brand is it?

    One thing i don't understand is why not prefer a 2 or 3 person tent when bikepacking with friends. I know everybody wants their own privacy but a 3p tent divided whthin 3 guys should be ligther then 3 x 1 person tent, and the equation for 2p tent vs 2x1p tents remains the same. For example the Big Agnes Copper UL1 is approx 1 kg while the 2p version is 1,6 kg approx. Also arranging how dividing the tent is not a big problem. Is it that frequent the solo ride? any other reason for this choice?

    • @madrapperdave
      @madrapperdave Рік тому

      I'm the opposite. I use the UL2 just for me. I like my space. I'd only use 1p tents or a bivvy in a pinch.

      Looks like he's still rolling on the excellent Pirelli Cincurrato Gravel Ms that he reviewed last year. Several riders have also recommended the very new Schwalbe G-One RS which would be faster on hard packed dirt roads and gravel, but having much less grip on loose terrain or mud.

    • @chychy4568
      @chychy4568 Рік тому

      @@peterharrington8709 is it good like Pirelli cinturato M or similar? Or is it a cheap but excellent tire too?

    • @peterharrington8709
      @peterharrington8709 Рік тому

      @@chychy4568 They ARE excellent but quite expensive, partly because they can be used with a liquid sealant instead of inner tubes. Panaracer and American Classic make similar products that Ride Adelaide has also tested. These are likely to be cheaper if the are available in your area. If instead you prefer to stick with traditional inner tubes then there are lots of even cheaper options. What tyres do you have on your bike atm? Obviously they will cost you nothing. Do you really need to buy something different??🙂

    Nice tent. I've owned the 1 and 2 man versions plus the FlyCreek bike pack tent. The one man alone is good for solo adventures and that's about the only positive thing I can say. The price of these tents is just absurd. The two man will NOT properly accommodate two sleeping pads side by side. Furthermore, the method shown in this video of simply strapping the tent straight to your bars is asking for serious marring of your bars and head tube, plus it simply isn't stable. I would strongly recommend a dedicated holder of some sort. If this tent is out of your price range, I HIGHLY recommend the Durston XMid tents. They're lighter and half the price with just as superior materials and more room

    • @kentuckythunderpussy
      @kentuckythunderpussy Рік тому

      I've been considering this vs the non freestanding Durston X Mid-1. as a bikepacker you'd need extra poles, but my concern is with pitching the tent -- some say it can be arduous. did you find this to be true or is it straight fwd? they seem roomy but also take up a decent size footprint. thanks!

    Seems like an absolute ripoff. I have a naturehike tent that was less than $200 delivered, has lasted for years as my bike packing tent. Seems near identical to this one. I don't see where the x5 increase in price comes from.
