    Another fun, informative video. Always great to watch you two and of course, the pups. Thanks for the review. Sounds like a great tent.

    Thanks for the great review! Living on the “wet” coast of Canada staying dry is my main concern. Just slowly getting gear put together in hopes of a late Spring start to bike camping. Will have to keep this review as an option if my current very old back packing tent is a fail 😬.

    Nice review (2 doors LOL and 2 dogs👍), I wish we had some of your sunshine here in Wales. I'm sticking with my Robert Saunders space-packer which is now some 33 years old and still doing a great job.

    You have me sold on the Big Agnes copper spur for my next tent purchase. This tent seems very popular with the bike packing / touring crowd. I would be interested in seeing a camo version of this ⛺.

    Very good review. I just purchased the same tent (latest version) and will be taking it to a 9 day hiking trip in Norway in a few days.

    Great review Ryan! I use the BigAgnes ULHD 2P, same qualities. Very roomy for myself (6’2)! And can add my sidekick 11 yr old, with no problem. RAD on!

    • @21Swayzee
      @21Swayzee 2 роки тому

      Yo! I'm 6'2 as well. Can you lay properly in the the tent and not touch the walls with your head and feet...or do you have to lay on an angle? I'm looking at the 3P tent...so should be a bit bigger... You know tall people problems...Thanks a bunch!

    That color of tent compared to others, looked to cast a good, dark, cool shadow for how thin the material is.

    Great review, I’ve really been wondering how the material is holding up over time. A lot of people seemed concerned that it would not because it’s so thin.

    I got the UL2 bikepacking version, too small for me and my 75 lbs pit bull. The UL3 bikepacking verison is a collassal palace in comparison. If you could pitch the poles you could probably setup the UL2 in the UL3.
    Absolutely nuts. The footprint now covers the vestibules as well.

    Lmao....the tent arrows to show it stowed on the bike gave me a giggle

  • @StormLaker
    @StormLaker 3 роки тому +2

    I debated on getting the 1P or the 2P......being a huskier hiker I went with the 2P and I don't regret that for one minute. I also like that I can leave the tent body at home and just use the fly with the footprint. If I brought a friend or my wife along...I might get the 3 person because the 2 person would be kinda snug. These are great tents. I am a longtime fan of the venerable Eureka Timberline2 and Timberline 4 tents......they have their place on my adventures....usually when car camping Ill take my Timberline 4. These tents are bonified backpacking adventure weight tents, and well worth every penny.

    I finally got the green Copper Spur HV 1 with my Rei 20% off coupon, so excited! Love the pockets on this thing. I'm trying a diy ground sheet for now, but I might consider picking the BA footprint up next time I get a coupon. Did you ever end up doing a quick pitch during rainy conditions?
    Too scared to take the dog into the tent though, maybe in a few years when it's worn in enough that I won't mind.
    My first tent was the Rei Passage 2. I didn't know if I would want the extra space for myself yet, and I thought it would be a good start for learning what I wanted for touring. Still like it for 2 people (tight fit though!) so I'll hang on to it for now.

    I’ve found on my UL1 that the vents are angled downwards, stopping rain from getting in. So if it’s really hot but just sprinkling, then it’s fine. But just in case, keep them closed in a storm. About the absorbing water, I’ve never noticed that. I do have a newer version, so I don’t know if that has anything to do with that, but I’ve taken this thing into storms that last for days and it always packs down the same.

    For the vestibule, I added elastic cordage allowing tension to remain as the tent fabric relaxed.

    I purchased the footprint together with tent from REI recently but noticed that footprint strip is too long and loosened. however, your video shows that the footprint is well fit to the pole. any thoughts on the issue I observed?

    I want to try this tent for bike packing but torn, do I get the 6oz heavier bike pack version that might be easier to store since the poles are short - or just figure I'll have the room and get the longer pack which is lighter and probably easier to put together since the poles will have less sections.
    Edit: Just ordered the regular version, but with the bikepack base that covers the vestibule area.

    Just got our CS HV UL4 (2020) for family backpacking adventures. Can't wait to use it!!
    Quick note on the vent hole...I thought they were designed to work in the rain unless you have crazy windy causing water to come in sideways. Same design as on just about any other rain fly I have ever seen.
    Also...better to have orange tent in case something goes wrong and you need people to come find you. But...insects do like the orange more, so there is that lol

      If the wind blows from the front i think will be perfectly fine with vent open. I like neutral colors because they don’t fk with my vision

    Thank you for giving a real life review of this tent - love that you’ve put this tent to the test! If you purchase another Copper Spur would you consider the bike packing version to get the smaller poles that would fit in your panniers or no because it increases the weight slightly?

    Just got the bikepacking 2p version and in day 3 it showed its limits, the water was dropping on me. I don’t know what 3 seasons means but in fog+rain+wind it’s terrible, everything will get damp and drops will form and rain on you. At first i thought it’s the open vent but after closing it, it continued to drop. I had to put a towel between the rainfly and the mesh. Then it’s also the wind, if you are lucky and it doesn’t change you could put the front in the wind, but if it comes from the back the rainfly will touch the mesh easily and get more water in. Terrible design for 600eur

    Vaude Taurus2 UL. Only downside is its quite long when packed and on the rack.

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  3 роки тому

      Yea I was looking for another tent with shorter poles but I think the 20in ones can fit in Darin’s frame bag. How long are yours? Everything else can probably be stuffed into a compression sack.

    • @alexcochrane8446
      @alexcochrane8446 3 роки тому

      50 cm. is the length of the stuff sack. Come the spring I'll try and strap the poles along the frame and rack and reduce the length of the sack.

    I'm on the look out for another tent..i made the mistake of buying a one person tent now iv got into hiking and can't fit my 65 litre osprey pack in it..lol the big agnes tents are bit out of my budget tho unfortunately..Thousand dollars here in nz .. good review tho.

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  3 роки тому

      Oof that is pricey. Are there any tents from Kathmandu that would be a little cheaper? Also Nature Hike is a good budget brand. Just get something 3 season, put a tarp underneath for a footprint and you should be fine!

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  3 роки тому +2

      We have a budget gear list kit.co/RadBikeAdventure/budget-bike-tour-gear
      Nature hike is a great option they have plenty of “other brand” inspired tents. I’m sure locally you could source a Kathmandu tent?

    Bet you're glad you didn't buy the 2 person copper spur, that would have been quite testing for 115 nights , most 3P tents are realistically 2P tents ....... Hey they do go up to a 5 person size! Reckon your current tent has a few years left of use in it .
