- It may not be the biggest or the best-selling first-person shooter series of all time, but Wolfenstein holds a very bloody and special place in the hearts of its fans; even helping to shape the genre as we know it today. Set in and around the events of World War II, the franchise has evolved from simplistic stealth titles that saw players performing a sneaky escape from a Nazi fortress or trying to blow up Hitler with a bomb, to a series of games that offer a bleak look into a world where the Axis powers won the war with the help of the supernatural. Here is Every Wolfenstein Video Game Ranked from Worst to Best.
Featured Wolfenstein video games:
• Beyond Castle Wolfenstein (1984)
• Castle Wolfenstein (1981)
• Return to Castle Wolfenstein (2001)
• Spear of Destiny (1992)
• Wolfenstein (2009)
• Wolfenstein 3D (1992)
• Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (2017)

What's your favourite Wolfenstein game? 🔫
Return to Castle Wolfenstein, probably the last great game of the boomer shooter era, before Medal of Honor Allied Assault and Call of Duty started the WW2 era shooters. I realize RTCW is in WW2, but is still a boomer shooter for its ridiculous weapons, fast gameplay, and supernatural enemies and weapons.
The newer ones were incredible but i do love the old school one
My favorite Wolfenstein game is the first one Wolfenstein 3D I've been playing that game since I 7 way back in 1992 I remember playing this game with my late wonderful dad ❤
The New Order is damn near a perfect video game in my book.
@@glen46823Wolfenstein did start the WW2 FPS genre but wasn't realistic at all.
Then you have Medal of Honor's 1999 debut that started taking the genre seriously and as time went on that led to Call of duty.
And unfortunately Medal of Honor as a series died in that process.
Regardless Call of Duty and Medal of Honor (especially their WW2 titles) are exactly the same and if you're asking, then yes I do lump those two in the same series.
They're way too similar not too.
Wolfenstein 2009 is criminally underrated. It's such a shame that it was a sales disappointment. Its story ties directly into New Order.
At least it's gotten vindication by history after fecking Youngblood came out, and also the increasing criticism against The New Colossus.
I have so much love for Wolfenstein 2009. It's very nastolgic for me, and I pity anyone who didn't get to experience it. I feel like it has the perfect mix of supernatural and realism. Some parts even come off as horror themed. Every time I replay it, it leaves me wanting more of it.
I LOVED Wolfenstein 2009! It's such a cool game, and it diverges from the traditional corridor shooting of the rest of the series.
The New Colossus was a MAJOR disappointment for me. Critics praise it for being an upgrade from The New Order, but to me everything was a downgrade!
I came to die on this hill too comrades! Loved the open nature of he campaign, exploring the town and some great set pieces. The multi-player was a brilliant laugh too I remember some epic grenade battles in the town square 🫶
It’s a great game.
Old Blood is better than Collosus and New Order in my opinion. And wolf 2009 is massively underated. Raven and Activision used to be a drram combination
old blood probably the best wolfenstein game tbh.
RTCW only number 4? Castle Wolfenstein number 3? New colossus above Old Blood and New Order? This list is a joke.
They said it is based on various factors including their opinions. Presumably you have a different opinion.
And that's ok.
@@Banquet42 Gmanlives did much better list than this
@@father042 have you got a link to it?
Just look up Wolfenstein Games From Worst to Best
You guys always bitch and moan about their videos, why don't you make your own?
Wolfenstein 2009 underrated af
PLEASE CAN WE HAVE EVERY TONY HAWK GAME RANKED
i second this
No 1 is no 2. No 2 is no 1.😊
Wolfenstein has influenced more games than Tony Hawk did
@@bram5825Nah bro, THUG is no. 1 and that's just a straight fact.
The original tony 2 is the best and whatever that abomination that came with a skateboard peripheral controller was is the worst list done
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had on PC. Dated AF but it's not been topped imho.
"Dated" is a bit of a harsh word. "Retro" feels more accurate.
@@michaelandreipalon359 Fair. It still plays better than most shooters from that era.
@@natecw4164 Then again, purely bad rushjob shooters back then were quite rare. Even the CoD titles at the time were gems, and still are in hindsight.
@@michaelandreipalon359 as well as Battlefield 1942 (1943? My memory fail me)
@@natecw4164 1942 and also 2, more like. Alas, can't count those, since they're basically delisted and thus dead.
Will wait for a miraculous renaissance for them though, even if it means making an e-sports crash in retaliation.
New Colossus was also the game responsible for Germany finally officially recognising videos games as an art form and therefore allowed Nazi symbolism to be displayed in games.
Wolfenstein 09 had fantastic gunplay for the time, it was great mindless fun, criminal you can't purchase it across any modern medium
Here's to hoping the latter fact ages like milk when it gets a grand return on Steam/GOG.
Bonus if Youngblood also gets delisted in return.
U can
@@myfriendscallmejojo where?
@@Vishkala
Not sure you can..."purchase it"...anywhere digitally, but there are ways to get it.
You can buy it on physical CD for PC or physical for Xbox 360/PS3, but you'll be paying a pretty penny for them.
Here is hoping Microsoft returns them to storefronts now that it owns both Bethesda and ActivisionBlizzard.
I'm currently replaying it on my Steam Deck and it holds up really well and is just as fun as I remembered.
Hard to argue with Wolf 3D being top of the list; but for me personally, I would have had New Order in 2nd place. Feel it is better than all of the others (that I have played myself). However, great vid as always! Love it!
Man, I played the hell out of Enemy Territory back in the days.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein the 🐐 Real ones know 💯
I thought Return to Castle Wolfenstein would be in first place and be the best Wolfenstein game, but it turned out to be in fourth place, I didn't expect it. Because I think Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the best Wolfenstein game ever, lol. 😅
RtCW should be the first, that isn't even a question. It is the best Wolfenstein game, and one of the best games in general.
@@attiladalmadi182 Yes, agreed!
I've played almost every game in the series through the years..I think I love Return to CW the best. I remember someone had Wolfenstein 3D on floppy disk in school so we could play it in the computer room. Good times. Good list. gg.
Still hoping for a TMNT or Star Trek ranked list at some point down the line. I have my fingers crossed!
TMNT, yes!!
I was looking for that today from Triple Jump cause I just started watching the original series on Paramount+ haha
YES!! I'd love both of these as well!!
Tmnt and xmen would be a dream come true
Would be nice to see a ranking of the Cowabunga Collection games for the former.
I mentioned TMNT in the every gta game ranked video. Still waiting
Great video and fantastic research! 💪
It was such a shame to see Wolfenstein '09 as low as it was. It was absolutely fantastic and so much fun. I can play that game over and over again. Super underrated.
The New Order should’ve been higher. Really it’s the cream of the crop. Not as hard as Colossus but still a challenge. More personal story etc.
Sehtr Gut.
Excellent Simon Miller 'cameo' too.
Mr. TNA/Impact!
Wolfenstein 2009 is the best for me by far. The weapons were unique and the sound of the suppressor on the MP40 was music to my ears.
Wolfenstein Oldblood is absolutely amazing, i cant stress about it enough, best out of modern wolfensteins for sure. If you havent played return to castle before you might get confused, but it captures all the best parts of early levels, with a lot of references to iconic scenes from the older games (even things from rtcw speedrun community as trolley explode before bridge is a direct reference to speedrun folks using granade to jump over and if you failed you would fall into river due to invisible wall), while modernizing gameplay. The full detailed experience of escaping the castle was phenomenal. As someone who replayed rtcw 100 times the ammount of details i was presented during gameplay made me smile and keep it that way till the very last minute. Oldblood is an obvious reboot/remake of return, so i was confused at 'nothing new' comment. Nazi-zombies and supernatural shouldnt be surprise either. Actually quiet the opposite, thats exactly what wolfenstein is about. The game is great example on how old classics should be recreated. Actual masterpiece! Jumping mechanic was deeply missed tho
Wolfenstein 3D is WAY too high. It has historic importance in video games but has aged like milk while doom, which came out a year and a half later overshadowed it in every conceivable manner.
Nah it still plays well, it still looks great and still monumental fun and it holds up just as well as Doom does.
Good list. My favorites are 3D, Enemy Territory, and Return To Castle Wolfenstein
New Colossus was worse than New Order and a huge letdown.
I'm surprised it made it that high on the list.
Agreed. It should have been in Wolf09's place. It started the decline of the series after the high point of New Order. Then Youngblood salted the earth.
Why exactly was collossus such a letdown?
Keep up the great work 🍻
this list is a perfect mix of old school and new wolfesnstein.couldn't agree more with the ranking
Return To Castle Wolfenstein was also on the OG XBOX
There was also a worse PS2 spinoff.
RTCW Tides of War Xbox 💪
@@DP12321 I know I had Return To Castle Wolfenstein (PS2) My dad and I loved the PS2 port
I don't care for your list, RTCW is still the best Wolfenstein
Anyone watching that was part of Battlefield Europe - RTCW? If so and if you fought on the allied side, you might know me as Whizzy
Huh,Neat. 15:28
That mobile Wolfenstein RPG actually looks kinda interesting, I've never heard of it before, some of the enemy designs are cool and I bet they could make a pretty badass game using the bones of this game.
😄👍
26:28 "If we need to remind you who the bad guys were.." has a bit of a hollow ring to it considering current world events. Someone might try reminding the BBC. lol
When I was about 10 or 11 my parents let me put their old Apple 2E computer in my bedroom. All I could really do on it was play a few floppy disk games. I tried so many times to get all the way through the castle on Beyond Wolfenstein but I was never able to.
After the well-received remasters of Quake 1 and 2 and CANT wait for a quality remaster of RTC Wolfenstein!!!
Played it on my OG XBOX back in the day and it was phenomenal.
The supernatural atmosphere and soundtrack were just perfect!!!
I remeber back in highschool, there was a Wolfenstein after school club where the IT peeps set up a local server and connected all the computers in the it room to for us to have play multiplayer games on the PC Wolfenstein about 17 years ago. Good times
I played so much enemy territory back in the day. Best part was the community made maps. I remember a Minas Tirith map where if you jumped off the cliff at the top it would play the Wilhelm scream
Another awesome video you guys! Keep it up! One day I'd love to see a ranking of every x-men game!
Yo, as an X-Men fan I support this idea!
Old blood and new order>>>>>>>>>New colossus . New colossus story was bad and the side characters were some of weakest side characters in the entire Wolfenstein series . Deathshead was a really good villain .
New Colossus that high is wild. Story was an absolute mess, way too many scenes felt like crappy remakes of older ones, mechanics were mostly ok, and gunplay was excellent. The New Order had an amazing story, was incredibly unique and groundbreaking, mechanics were great, and gunplay was also great. Overall a much, much better game. I'd honestly put Old Blood and New Colossus neck and neck for 5th
Same thoughts, but I'd rather put TNO and TOB for the same spot because they're basically the same game.
RtCW+ET should have been No. 1 though.
12:30
It's weird I don't recall ever hearing about Spear of Destiny, I played the ever loving crap out of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom but I never knew about additional Wolfenstein content until they started remaking the series in Full 3D years later.
It looks like it woulda been fun, I know the difference would probably only end up being some new or different wall and door textures and maybe another uniquely colored grouping of pixels as a new enemy and Maybe a new gun. Although back then that kinda Was what a sequel is.
🤷♂️
17:46
Shouldn't all games be "fan service" to some extent? If you aren't Them happy then who is supposed to buy the game, People that already weren't a fan to begin with?🤷♂️
If you bought the retail box of Spear of Destiny, you actually got three 32-level episodes. Also, little-known fact about SOD, you don't get the TRUE ending unless you find secret level 33.
Are you sure that wasn't Final Doom you are thinking of?
Wolfenstein 2009 is easily top 5 😢
Wolfenstein 2009 is very good. Oh well, you have The New Collossus at #2. Might as well ignore the whole list.
Very average it was ment to be a series but killed it, until a other reboot
New colossus better than new order? That’s just wrong, not to mention return to castle isn’t number 1. Return has aged well 3D has not
Peter talking about Nazis deserves a BAFTA
The old blood is my favorite
Return to castle wolfenstien was my fav but WS 09 was fuckin good.
Wtf is New Colossus doing in front of RTCW, hell even New Order, also as everyone is saying Wolf 09 should make steam return, underrated.
Interesting list. I and many of the older classic gamers never cared much for the newer Wolfenstein games. RTCW and ET and to a lesser extent 3D are the only titles worth considering. If I had to make a list
1. RTCW
2. Enemy Territory
3. Wolfenstein 3D & Spear of destiny
4. Castle Wolfenstein & Beyond Castle Wolfenstein for retro gamers
5. Wolfenstein 2009
6. The rest.
All Doom games ranked worst to best! Now that you mentioned parallels between Wolfenstein and Doom it's only fair.
The first Wolfenstein I played was Wolfenstein 3D in 1993 on the HP computer. The old school floppy discs is what i started with before CD ROM. However, in 2006 when I received the Xbox 360, I played The Old Blood, New Order, New Colossus and Young Blood. I had a hard time playing Young Blood because it required two players instead of single player
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was my first online multiplayer game other than playing Red Alert through dialing my friend's phone number and connecting to the landline to play each other in 97 while Daria played in the background.
Enwmy territory was a huge frigging deal, as waa return to castle Wolfenstein. Peak pc gaming era
Enemy Territory will always be my number one :(
Was a great multiplayer had so much fun
Every time someone says "Blow up Hitler" I can't help but think of Danger 5.
I would love you to do every Final Fantasy game from worst to best on new years day
Me too but that would be whole series of videos or one 10h xD
You should rank all the old Sierra games next! It's time the younger generation get to appreciate the awesomeness of that now sadly defunct company.
I'm clearly in the minority, but I enjoyed Youngblood quite a bit. I understand why people didn't, and I'm certainly not saying it's better than the other games from the newer era, but I definitely feel it's underrated.
Personally I love them all, And in my opinion it's definitely time for another one.
I’ve been hankering for Wolfenstien III: the new? For four years now
Back in day , I had a cd release of wolfstien 3d on pc, the manel in back had all greman words , guards was saying to you translated
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was the best in my opinion
Wolfenstein 3D (92) was my first video game! At least, the earliest one that I was hooked on. I wish I could play it today!
When are we going to get every Pokémon game ranked?? I’m begging!
Wolfenstein 2001 and 2003, are the best for me..... The atmosphere and feel of WW2 is just top tier.
Hey triple jump I'm wondering do any of these games have a zombie wave mode or nazi wave mode we can play?
I actually thought Wolfenstein 3D was the first game. I should have guessed with it being called 3D and not just 3D lol
One of the greatest series ever made, even at it's low points. Still regarded as the original FPS, even prior to Doom overshadowing it. My top 3 are: New Order/Old Blood, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein 2009
I liked Cyberpilot, I didn't mind that it felt clunky because Mechs should feel clunky. And I didn't care about the length because I only paid 3 bucks, but it was a fun hour long experience for that price.
Plus, at least it's no Youngblood.
Bahahahaha a real Simon Miller reference!
Youngblood is not that bad. I'm not saying it's a great game, but it's better than a lot of the ones ahead of it on this list.
Wolfenstein RPG was fucken magical
New colossus was honestly way too short, the tone in the 2nd half is jarring as hell after playing through the first half, and the ending just didn’t feel like an ending at all to me.
I really loved both the reboot games. Really hope we get a third. I feel like the New Colossus ended very abruptly just as the story is starting to get really good.
You dont count Old Blood ?
@@kriskaterIt counts. It's just that it's basically part of The New Order.
Until then, The New Order+The Old Blood will stay a fine standalone tale involving the inevitable yet necessary martyrdom of William Joseph Blazkowicz.
How about every Street Fighter game ranked from worst to best
I keep asking you guys to do a list for Terminator games! Why do you keep refusing?!
You missed the 2 Spear of Destiny expansions: Mission 2: Return to Danger and Mission 3: Ultimate Challenge.
As a turkish boy livin in germany, I have to say your "sehr sehr schlecht" was pretty good 👍🏼
I would have put RtCW+ET as the No. 1 pick (basically Wolf 3D, but roughly remade into more accessibly modern tastes with less of the repetitiveness, difficulty, and padding of what came before, and not to forget being more triumphant and comfortably adventurous compared to what came after), TNO+TOB as the No. 2 combined (helps that they have that bittersweet standalone feel when put into post-release hindsight; wouldn't have minded them as MachineGames' first, last, and only installments to the franchise then and especially now), either Wolf 3D or 2009 as No. 3 or 4 depending on the mood (one is nowadays obsolete in many ways, yet one feels too Call of Duty-ish), and TNC as No. 5 (for being way too derivative from its excellent predecessors and appears to be the place where mold returned to the poor franchise as a whole; still holding out for a third and truly final Wolf installment by MachineGames though, their Indy Jones game notwithstanding). Never played the pre-3D games, so I can't judge them.
Youngblood will always be fecking last, hehe! Gods, I hate it when deep seated fiction goes off the deep end and become Spy Kids cringe... looking at you too, Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett.
IMO RtCW is sitting next to DoD:S and L4D2 as the holy trinity of online FPS
their voices are so similar, I can't get who is talking at the moment
Didnt knew old blood is considered worst out of machinegames except youngblood and that vr thing
I always tought aprat those two ,wolfenstein 2 as worst (when it wants it is awesome, but too much cutscenes killed pace for me ,gunplay is still best in series tho)
I find The Old Blood best because it is short but sweet ,i like its level design it reminds me of half life .
Sure focus on stealth early is a bit boring but rest is epic
Please can we have every final fantasy ranked or phantasy star
Return To Castle Wolfenstein is the best game in the series😅
Wolfenstein 2009 is so under rated. So, so under rated.
Didn't deserve to be as low as it was. Especially not below fucking spear of destiny.
It was a better game than the new collosus as well.
That's alright though. Not surprising the English taste in games is as bland as mashed potatoes.
Well I think you're crazy for trying to insult these guys, just because they didn't praze Wolfenstein 2009 as highly as you do. I mean god forbid they have a different opinion about that game than you.
When can we get every MMO ranked?
Probably impossible seeing as probably around a thousand
@@petesmart1983 get rid of the Korean ones and its no bigger than the Mario or Star Wars list
How is The New Order not #1? For that matter, how is an ancient 8--bit computer game higher? And like, as great as 3D is for the time... #1? Wha?
I haven't played it (or bought for that matter), but I still don't get how they can mess up a relatively well received shooter Wolfenstein that also sports co-op.
Something is very wrong when you say killing a nazi is a waste of ammunition >_>
Shareware isn't open source.
... You do realize that the multiplayer of RTCW is kinda identical to Enemy Territory, right? If it was so welcome in RTCW, it makes no sense to put Enemy Territory so further down the list. I get the lack of single player complaint, what I don't get is the multiplayer being downplayed in Enemy Territory but not in RTCW :P
Wolfenstein '09... guys, did we play the same game? You've got various powers to use, some fun guns like the particle cannon, said guns are upgradeable, and loads of rewards for exploring the levels and finding secrets. It's gotta be up higher than it is here.
You also didn't mention the Spear-based games: Return to Danger and Ultimate Challenge. They're... terrible, but they are standalone titles just like Spear.
That's what I said. How the hell was it 10. Judging by the comments we're not the only ones as well.
Even though I played Wolfenstein 2009 1x on PS3 and 1x on PC on über difficulty, I don't really want to go back. The last Boss fight was done very well, but there is also a boss that was very easy.
The weapons are brutally good in the game, my favorites are the Kar and the Leichenfaust. The enemy AI is pretty good, but it still falls short of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. What really hurt my eyes was the excessive neon light, and I almost didn't need the special abilities because most of the tasks in the game can be completed without them.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the best of all, the game is characterized by an amazingly smart and varied artificial intelligence, very nice graphics for its age, and the weapons are very good, I would also highlight the enemies and the locations, the only disappointment for me was that the last boss it was too easy for me even on i am death incarnate.
For me, Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus is my personal favorite, the game is characterized by amazingly good characters, graphics, gameplay, even a mini-game, Wolfstone 3D, was edited into the game. Wolfenstein 2 was an experience to play through on difficulty Mein Leben. I would like to highlight one more thing, the mutilation of limbs and heads, Wolfenstein 2009 is not bad either, but Wolfenstein 2 is the real thing.
And what did you think of old blood an new order?
@@GORILLA_PIMP I haven't played it all the way through yet, but I really like it so far, genuine machinegames quality
Wolf 09 was underrated as f**k fantastic gunplay mixed with that classic India jones feel. People lambasted it because of regen health and aim down sights, yet felt closer to classic shooters of old with enemy/weapon variety, environmental story telling and unique mechanics. The new games are good, but 09 feels more like wolfenstein and if some one gave me the choice I’d choose 09 over the new ones any day of the week
I didn’t know Wolfenstein had a game before 3D
Top three.... #1 Return To Castle Wolfenstein #2 The Old Blood #3 2009
any chance of a ratchet and clank one of these please? they were my childhood on ps2
Can you rank all of the Cartoon Network games?
Damn...Youngblood wasn't thaaaaat bad.
yes it was
I LOVE Youngblood, aww well, can't EVER please everyone.
To this day i still have only playec Wolf3D.
I enjoyed it quite a bit so i don't know why i haven't played any others?
I can easily recommend RtCW+ET and TNO+TOB to a virtual newcomer like you. Maybe even the delisted Wolf 2009, if you somehow get your hands on it.
Perhaps one day we’ll get a big Mega Man list. Today, sadly, is not that day.
