I know you aren't including mobile only, but I have been digging Tacticus on mobile. Yea, it's a p2w game, but I've been playing it witout spending any money and have been enjoying it since it still has a decent pace without needing $$$ spent. It's basically built using the same system from the mobile game Rivenguard, but after trying both, I think the tweaks done to Tacticus make it significantly more fun.

The fact that there are so many lost Warhammer 40K games should teach us this: game preservation is important and physical media has a reason for existing.
This is all preserved on web archives etc. What does physical media have to do with this? The important part is for DRM to not prevent people from playing the games.
@@mercurioslevin1877it does have a poetic angle to it but I'm so into retrogaming that I can't fully agree. Some of the best game experiences ive ever had have been games from the early 90s and I'm very thankful that fans kept them available. Heck, sometimes they even release mods and updates for them to this day

DoW Soulstorm and its amazing fan mods that are still going strong today is the best. If we're talking only the base game, then I would probably agree that the first one was best.
one game of warhammer 40k that would be good would be a titanfall 2 copy that lets us fully control an imperial knight for some missions and a space marine for ground missions, and for especial missions let us use another type of titan like warhog or imperatus class
@@2Beastywith a lot of the improvements, new Operation, and balancing fixes in last week's patch, it's up to a 9 for me. It hasn't crashed once in a full week of consistent play since the patch. New mission Termination is an absolute blast

An interesting list. I think Dawn of War 3 is listed way too high as it is the weakest of the Dawn of Wars, I'd say Chaos Gate Demonhunter is a far better game. DarkTide had a lot of promise on release but they didn't deliver on what was promised. A year later there are things still missing, but they can make up for it. When OwlCat's Rogue Trader comes out later this year it will have to be added to the list and I expect it to be very high up, same with Space Marine 2. Also, the Alpha of Speed Freeks shows a lot of promise as well. Dawn of War 1, Boltgun and Space Marine 1 are to me still the best Warhammer 40K games around.
Although I personally love Mechanicus (with the Heretek expansion) seeing it placed so much higher than Daemonhunters surprised me. At least equal or superior in both polish and reception. Calling it an inferior XCOM clone is a bit strange since it better resembles Gears Tactics' more urgent, action oriented take on TBS. It's quite a different design. Dawn of War 3 was almost universally panned and I struggle to understand how it manged a top 10 slot at all. It's so half-baked.
DoW3 felt fine in the campaign, but as soon as you left the campaign it showed all the problems. It was a game where they tried to appeal to too many crowds, rather than sticking in a lane and making a refined experience. Dawn of War 1 is great if you want the epic scale 40k battles or are just a traditional RTS fan, meanwhile Dawn of War 2's focus on smaller squads is more like the classic 40k tabletop - both are fantastic choices and have their own adoring fanbases. Dawn of War 3 seemed to lack an identity - it felt like they wanted to keep the squad powers and hero focus of DoW2, but they also wanted to go back to the DoW1 scale, all while trying to incorporate elements of the then-popular MOBA format - one foray into multiplayer and you immediately realize that you're pushing lanes, tearing down towers, and aiming to destroy a nexus... MOBA 101 (on another note, I'm actually amazed we never got a true 40k MOBA with how every franchise seemed to have one). Dawn of War 3 ended up doing large scale worse than DoW1 and small scale worse than DoW2, all while feeling watered down by mechanics that the fans never asked for... I wanted to love the game so much, but it lacked the long-term enjoyability of both its predecessors.
@@Dreznin I think the campaign had its problems too. The pace of resource gain was glacially slow because it was balanced for multiplayer, so you spent so long waiting for points so you could actually buy units. Also, it kept swapping factions each mission so you really didn't get a chance to get used to the faction you were using.
This sounds heretical but it's kinda fun, I also have DoW 1 and 2 and I honestly love all 3 games, but when comparing DoW 1 is the best out of all. Maybe if DoW 3 had the factions from 2 and the style from 1 maybe it could've been the best imo
I thk DARKTIDE deserves much better rating as its class overhaul pretty much fixed the issue in October 3rd 2023. (11days prior to this video) This increased players, reaching to 33k peak players last month.
Still has balancing and difficulty issues, among others, but can't deny it's a blast. New maps are the b st yet (Carnival, Baross, Archivum), new skill trees, and easy enough you don't have to restrict yourself to META builds and god-tier weapons, even at the absolute highest levels. You can have fun with any build and team compositions (although a couple of Smite Psychers improve the odds considerably).
It is much better, I agree. I spent my first 72hrs owning that game stressing about how it wasnt working and the moments it sorta did it ran like shit. Now it's like a different game. One of the worst releases I've ever seen but it's become like 40k's vermintide 2
Deathwing is underrated. When the multiplayer server still ran properly it was a blast to play. Maybe even good enough to get up there into the top 10, if you ignore the single player and AI
I enjoyed the writing too! The voicework really helped it shine. The music is stellar. I still listen to Guillaume David’s work to date. I just wish the gameplay was up there too.
@@thirteenthirtyseven4730 So true ! I was sort of angry the gameplay didn't hold up because all the artistic choices were so great and you could really tell that they knew and loved the franchise ... I'm soon going to try the WH40K Chaos Gate game from last year, my hopes are set pretty high
I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Nothing beats finding a good game. Somehow it goes over my head. I see it's rave reviews are ubiquitous so that means it's something subjective, but I'm just don't get it. Crappy design, and the tactical play is so limited. For info, my personal favorite is close between Sanctus Reach and Warhammer: Liberation. With Liberation edging out the win.
Oh, Liberation brings back gooood oooold memories indeed, I still have the box somewhere and I'm glad I kept it because the artwork was really something ! Totally agree with you on the gameplay side of the Mechanicus, it just doesn't hold up to the overall polished quality of the game and that's too bad, so I really hope the Chaos Gate game from last year did an ok job at a 40K XCOM clone ! @@noworldorder
I recently bought Inquisitor Martyr with all DLC for around €9 on steam in a sale. So if you are willing to wait for it your remark about the price is definitely not an issue.
Yeah I also have Inquisitor and don’t know why I haven’t played it yet it looks good. I’ve been on an ARPG kick playing Diablo 4 and hyped for Path of Exile 2.
@@AAhmou Actually not sure. 40k games I love: Dawn of War's 1+2, Chaos Gate Remake, Chaos Gate original, Space Hulk Ascension, and 40k Gladius. (also put EYE here even though it's not technically 40k) Ones I liked: Space Marine, Chapter Master, Mechanicus, Necromunda, Gothic Armada 2, [the other Space Hulks], Final Liberation, and Legacy of Dorn. Boltgun is slightly below those due to its lack of variety in combination to its length. (67% the options as Space Marine, but twice as long), but I can't say I didn't enjoy my time, it just got tedious and boring. At least it took 4 hours to reach that point, unlike Dakka Squadron which got boring after 1 hour.
Just goes to show they've been putting in hard work on games over the years and they are only getting better. I have been into certain Warhammer games since the first vermintide and I'm definitely getting more into them at this point. It's a super fun universe that I'm barely getting the hang of. There's just so much and it's so cool every step of the way
Final Liberation at #16? *Way* too low! You didn't even mention the live action cutscenes they filmed for it which, considering being filmed in 97 and being very low budget, hold up extremely well (especially the actor playing Commissar Holt). And the soundtrack is arguably the best out of all the 40K games!
FMV actors in the 90's almost always went full ham on this stuff, it was incredibly entertaining. You could tell they thought no one would ever see it and they lived their best Broadway dreams against primitive greenscreen.
The idea that battlefleet gothic 2 was sub 10 is insane. That game is iconic. It had a couple shortcomings, 1 being how much of a SLOG the campaign becomes later on. 2. Balance, while it was never that big of an issue, balance always comes a bit at the cost of uniqueness. That said, most every faction felt different. Especially eldar/deldar. 3. Limited campaigns, you only ever got to play a large portion of the factions in skirmish mode (either pvp or vs ai)
Aeronautica Imperialis is an actual tabletop game. It was originally released as a White Dwarf article to allow players to use existing pieces to play a spinoff game, but came out as its own standalone game several years ago. It even got an expansion adding on the Tau. It didn't go over too well though and only ever got Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Orks, and Tau.
I don't know if you are aware, but putting DoW 3 that high on the list almost invalidates the entire thing. I would find it more believable to think that Magnus did nothing wrong.
I cant take this list seriously when you rnked Dawn of War 3 so high, let alone above Darktide. Even before the rework, Darktide was still a vastly better than whatever the fuck DoW III was trying to be.
Darktide is actually very good now and deserves way more credit. The environments and ambiance is super authentic and true to the source material, and along with its fantastic graphics the presentation is absolutely top tier. The 'recent reviews' on steam would give a clearer idea of the current state and quality of the game (which sits at 'very positive').
same, when they said Spacehulk Deathwing is the best on the list for nailing the aesthetic i was like "Is darktide not on this list?" Also, I feel like rating it so low because of polish and lack of content without having revisited it seems disingenuous, especially with how much it gets right, specifically gameplay, aesthetic desgin and sound design. This came out three weeks ago so i feel like instead of comparing the release value of the games, you should be recommending games based on how they are at the time of making the list so people know if games are good now, not when they released.
In contrast, Battlesector is ranked 5 because its players liked it. Which loosely translates to one of the 2 people making the video likes it, therefor they think its good. Most players like their games, that criticism can be levied to every game on this list except maybe the bottom 10 mobile cash grabs.
I'm one of the few scrubs who enjoyed it from the beginning. It was fun and a good game to play for like 45 minute sessions when you have to go to bed or have shit to do
I never really got what people don't like about Space Hulk: Deathwing. I immensely enjoyed EVERY single second of my playthrough. Not only that, I did several playthroughs of it. The environments alone make it for me, let alone the entire game itself.
@@tezeskop oh boy day one Deathwing was a broken mess, folks needed to disable their audio devices in device manager to get passed the bell chamber in chapter one due to a memory leak that would reduce your FPS to single digits 😭 that god for the updated edition!
@@tezeskop No, I played the updated one. But in any case, if it was updated later, there is no point on judging it on a previous iteration. I even played it on a mid gaming rig with tons of lag during the most tumultuous sections and I still loved it. I'm gonna get a better rig in 2 months or so and I am pretty sure I'm going to play it again.
As new fan of WH40K franchise, I'm quite glad to pick up some of the best games in my early days of knowing this confusing but interesting (Gladius: Relics of War, for free and Shootas, Blood, and Teef with some discount). The orks was just a love at first sight with their mad love with color red and unique way to speak, with Blood Angles came second.
I like Dawn of War 3 😅 Sure it isn’t anywhere as good as Dawn of War 1 and I would have preferred it played more like that game rather than hero hammer, but it is still one of the better 40k games out there in my opinion 🤗
@@bear4278 It is like... your opinion. I'd argue it is one of the worst major 40k releases, discounting never-ending shovelware. DoW3 is the type of game that simply makes me quote certain classic: "What were they thinking?!"
I disagree with the positioning of Chaosgate Daemonhunters. It´s easily one of the best XCOM-likes and certainly better than XCOM 2 for example. The game is insanely good and replayable.
XCOM suffers from "consistent 5% miss chance landing with abnormal frequency" syndrome. Unfortunately, Xenonauts has this same problem, on top of the aliens unfairly being able to one-shot many of your soldiers despite having armor.
@@AdderTude Yes. I'm fine with RNG systems in tactical games like Xcom, but I am not fine when the RNG flat-out lies like in base Xcom. Long war mods luckily fix that.
Great list, but I believe both Chaos Gate games should definitely be higher. Happy to see Battlesector and Boltgun get what they deserved. The voice acting in Battlesector was top notch.
@@jessewhite753 I definitely prefer having more units to play with like the original, but it was definitely a good sequel. Made me really appreciate the Grey Knights
Used to love 40k and genuinely had no idea SO MANY games came out in the back half of the 2010s for it... If you'd put me on the spot before today I'd maybe have been able to name 2-3.
I've played spacehulk. If you are at all curious, do yourself a favor and play it. The gameplay is pretty lackluster, but the atmosphere, level design, visuals, are all top notch. Id say its worth trying it just for that. The biggest issue i have with it really is that you are literally a walking fridge, you have about just as much grace in your movements
Dawn of War 1 is the ONLY Warhammer game I've ever played. It's fucking AMAZING, too. Way better than a lot of other games out there. I can't believe they never made any sequels to the game. They could have made, like, 40 of them. They don't even need a NEW game, just update the old one, that'd be FINE! Write more campaigns for it or something. Still blows me away that it didn't become a series.
I actually quite liked kill team but that's mostly because me and my dad played through it together and it was a fun time bonding over our mutual love of the series, shame it's been de-listed
Still amazed that the original DoW is not only played, but still actively modded. the unification mod is awesomme and adds even more content and replayability for a game 20 years old.
Oh now you definitely need to do all warhammer fantasy games ranked. Though I really want all final fantasy games ranked. Even if i know the rankings will piss me off.
I mostly agree with the list but placing Darktide so low is just wrong. The game that was described in the video sounds like release day Darktide. The game Ive played for 80 hours is alot more polished, with good graphics, nice gameplay, and *alot* more customization with the new update. Theres still not what many would call a "typical story" but there is more lore than you think. And theers not very many bugs yet. Theres just a few more things Darktide needs, and alot of that is just more stuff. But number 27? Thats heavily uncalled for.
Holy shit, I thought you sounded familiar. Youre one of the guys from the golden watchculture era! So random that this video happened to be recommended now. Awesome to see you still putting out awesome videos man!
I've played 95% of this list. I definitely agree with the top 5. The one entry I take massive exception to is including Daw of War 3 in the top ten. Absolutely not a "great game." Two things turned off the fans of the other games. First was the MOBA gameplay. The multi-player was dead on arrival due to that alone. The second (but bigger) reason was that demo that showed Gabriel Angelos doing a front flip in terminator armor. That alone was worth all the ridicule the game got. Yes, it was a pretty game with a pretty decent selection of units, but the single player campaign was unbearable to sit through, switching between Marines, Orks, and Eldar constantly. If it had been 3 separate campaigns instead, it would have been a much more enjoyable experience. The game launching with only those 3 factions, with no timeline for releasing the rest, was the final nail in the coffin for this massive steaming pile of a game. It's too bad it killed the series, as the rest of the entries are spectacular.
I've enjoyed a lot of W40K games over the years, but for me there is one that stands above them all and keeps dragging me back for another playthrough. Dawn of War 2. However, I also enjoyed Space Marine, Battlefleet, Final Liberation, Inquisitor - Martyr, Dawn of War 1 + addons and Boltgun.
Most fans of 40k video games will debate day in and out between Dawn of War's 1+2. Some prefer the wide RTS variety (and mods) of 1; others the tactical depth, unique playtypes, and scale of 2. That said, the fact that Dawn of War 3 is in their top 10 is a crime.
Agree on DoW2. Timeless game. I intens to replay it soon for the nt time. You should check out Deamonhunters though. Great game and totally underrated here. It has a really good story too.
Darktide should be ranked higher simply because many of the player negative reviews are literally just whining about not being a mere 40K reskin of Vermintide 2. Plus, from what I've been seeing recently, reviews are actually trending more positive after the class system was overhauled (3900 recent reviews for an aggregate "Very Positive" score). Edit: Swap Darktide's place with Dawn of War III. Pretty much everyone who stuck with Dawn of War from the very beginning says DoW3 sucks because Relic tried to appeal to the casual player and ended up losing the soul of the franchise as a result.
Great video, but very small note: I recommend changing up the music a bit throughout the video. It becomes VERY apparent after the first 20 minutes or so that the same music is constantly on a loop and becomes kinda distracting
Good to see final liberation getting some love. It’s probably the closest to the table top game and is absolutely brilliant. Shame it doesn’t work properly AT ALL on modern hardware.
Can't believe Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate-Deamon Hunters wasn't even a mention. I played many of these W40k games and feel like Chaos Gate might be the best one, or at least would have placed in the top 3.
No it's about where it belongs, maybe even too high. The Duty Eternal DLC devastated the campaign experience and instead of listening to the chorus of player complaints and fixing things at the source, they released an incredibly poorly balanced band-aid fix in the form of Execution Force. The game is fun but an intransigent dev studio squandered much of the potential the game had.
Dawn of War 1 was my first exposure to Warhammer 40K, the intro still gives me chills, but I have never played the tabletop game. I did read the Dawn of War series and got hooked on the novels from Black Library having now read hundreds, the Eisenhorn and Ravenor omnibuses are a couple favorites.
nice summary! Darktide has improved since release, but it did probably suffer from a premature launch. DoW III did have a fantastic soundtrack at least. nice to see Space Marine rate well, it was a flawed classic ... that I thrashed relentlessly. looking forward to the sequel!
So many mobile game ports. Why would anyone think those who play Warhammer 40k, which involves spending a never ending amount of money on multiple small purchases of otherwise worthless figures and paints, would be a market for micro transaction loaded mobile games?
The Space Hulk board game had a big impact on me growing up. For better or worse, the videogame adaptations never quite held up to that experience for me, but I definitely appreciate them as their own things.
Darktide is a hell of a lot of fun. They really need to start regularly releasing more story content though. To be fair they did just spend a ton of their time on making the talent systems better and they succeeded in that.
There isnt reeeeally much story to build on a game that focuses so much on the co-op gameplay more than anything. BUUUUT if rumours are to be believed, Genestealer cults and possible story around that and Morrow being infected could be coming.
@@cyanide7270 Vermintide had a much more substantial story and launch. It's hard to make that argument when literally the same company has already done better.
@@khinzaw77 The fact that most negative player reviews simply whine that it isn't a mere 40K reskin of Vermintide 2 certainly demonstrates the level of entitlement people have nowadays and should be largely ignored. Having played in the closed betas for Vermintide, Vermintide 2, and Darktide, I had a reasonable amount of expectation going into the full release and despite some gripes, I enjoy the hell out of Darktide a little more than Vermintide. The tenuous alliance between the convicts during missions, especially the banter between them being much more interesting than between the Ubersreik Five, makes the game more compelling than its Fantasy counterpart even if there's no definitive story campaign like in Vermintide (also because the battle for Atoma Prime is an ongoing conflict).
@@AdderTude I mean most negative reviews are mostly that the game has barely any content. The same few maps over and over. They fixed some of the progression and build variety issues, but the lack of maps is still an issue.
@@cyanide7270 Idk, rumors seem more wishful thinking than anything. I mean, genestealers during a Nurgle invasion? Besides, what does a genestealer cult give you that a Nurgle cult doesn't? You already are fighting an army of traitor guard so really your just the genestealers and patriarch and really that seems out of the scope of what your team is capable of. Maybe they would do that but I feel they still have a lot of work with the stuff we got before they even think about new factions.
I picked up Hired Gun in a sale this yr. And was pleasantly surprised. It was a fun time running and gunning in the 40k world, no big issues that were mentioned here, so guess they’ve fixed it since those reviews. And you get a mech-hound companion! So, fun gunplay, get to pet a doggo, if on sale I’d say worth the pick up.
I know its personal opinion but deathwing being put so low is incredibly sad, when it first came out and mulitplayer was popping it was an amazing experience
This'll be interesting but i'm expecting Dawn of War (the 1st one) to be in the number one spot. Not sure who wrote this list but i get the impression they haven't played a lot of these games. Dawn of War 3 is NOT a good game and does not deserve to be in the #10 slot. It was so bad all planned DLC was cancelled and we've not had a DoW game since. There are a lot of games that should be ahead of DoW 3!
I very (hazily...) remember enjoying/forcing myself to play through FIRE WARRIOR on the PS2 after picking it up for dirt-cheap. I had absolutely no knowledge of what "Warhammer 40K" even was at the time, but there's a level in that game - where you first face some absolutely brutal Space Marines - that blew my tits off.
The later update/replacement edition - Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced fixed alot of the issues the game had like finally adding in elements like proper MP progression and upgradable addons to your wargear etc but the game still has to be played Multiplayer for the true experience as the single player mode is still lacklustre sadly
There was also no Xbox edition still, I was really excited when I heard that death wing was coming to consoles but then they dropped Xbox with no explanation
It's really cool to see Triple Jump are real Warhammer fans. Of any major IP, I think none is so unjustly ignored by the mainstream audiences and outlets. There is so much incredible content in the universe. I feel like It's rare to find actual fans despite it being such a massive IP.
@@BaranZenonHave you seen the Vox transmissions? There's alot of lore there. While the game doesn't have a typical story, it does have more lore then you think, through all the voice lines and the vox transmissions. I do recommend you see them my good sir
@@BaranZenon Story: You're a convict recruited into an Inquisitor's retinue to look into a Nurgle infestation on Atoma Prime, specifically Hive Tertium. You're essentially the boots on the ground for the Inquisitor in charge. That's it. Simple, straightforward, and not overly bloated.
Although I have watched youtube videos and really liked the lore of WH40K, I had never played any of the games until Darktide. I have had such a blast on the L4D style of game so for it to be #27 on the list really got me excited to maybe expand my roster of games to try out!
I love darktide, in it's current state it's a real dope game - especially if you have friends who play it too. Some day it'll be exactly what every wh fan wants, it's like an investment to the future and so much has happened since release and it will get better and better with every patch. If you have a stressful job there's nothing better to kill hundreds of demons. The launch was horrible, but I think that this wasn't the intention of the devs. You and I know that darktide is a really good game, I loved vermintide 2 as well, if you don't know it - check it out! You'll love it
Absolutely high to put the old ass chaos gate over chaos gate daemonhunters. That recent one knocks the socks off nearly everything on the list besides the better dawn of war titles in regards to tactical strategy
@@cyprus1005 unfinished? since it came out of beta i havnt seen any major bugs from when it was actually unfinished, also dissappinting is obviously an opinion so i cant argue with it, but personally i enjoy it alot
@@lightborn9071 i havnt finished the story fully yet but im almost done with it, and what are you on about? is there some twist at the end were joe biden comes in or something?
Killteam was great. The fact you have Regicide above it is criminal. It’s not my fault you didn’t have friends who are willing to come over to play coach coop. Also Darktide is the only one that got the grimdark gothic visuals right not Space Hulk Deathwing.
First of all thank you for including the very old Space Crusade! I played it on my Commodore 64 and it was crap but it was my lovely crap! ❤ Beside that... Wasn't there a Warhammer 40l game called Retribution?
Seems like you're missing a few mobile (some of which were then ported to PC) items including Carnage (Champions), Drop Pod Assault, Combat Cards, Horus Heresy Legions and the more recent Lost Crusade and Tacticus
Big fan of twin stick shooters so I actually had a lot of fun with Kill Team. And it unlocked the Power Sword in Space Marine which, as a Dark Angel, I had to have. 😅 Disappointed Deathwing didn't place higher. Comments are all fair, but, there was always that rare occasion when you'd get into multiplayer with a group that knew what they were doing and then it was an awesome experience.
I agree, as someone looking for a bit of shooty bang bang fun in theb40k universe it hit the itch for me. I think with the powers etc I prefer it slightly to Boltgun which is also great but a little samey.
@@NickStedmon I haven't checked out Boltgun yet but I plan on it! One thing I loved about Deathwing was it clearly had a "Let's just cut out the unfun stuff." Like they just gave infinite ammo but it didn't feel cheap.
@TimeRainbow206 Yes definitely still challenging with inf ammo. That's my only minor complaint with Boltgun is that for a boomer shooter I seem to be short on ammo sometimes haha. But it does have options for invincibility and all weapons (possibly inf ammo not sure) if it gets too much which is cool. I very much appreciated Deathwing for being "You're here to shoot some xenos so let's cut everything out but that haha.
I feel dark tide should be at least 5-10 spots now that it’s gotten its bit update. It’s far better now and truly a great game for warhammer fans and a good game for non warhammer fans.
No, just the Total War: Warhammer series by Creative Assembly which is Warhammer Fantasy and, from what I've heard, was given the green light by GW to ignore End Times canon (the one where Archaon is victorious and the Old World is destroyed, segueing into Age of Sigmar).
Cheers mate. I picked up three games after watching this vid. Also, new Space Marine game is amazing. My current fave. Cant wait to play the first one, Boltgun and Darktide, which also just got a huge revamp.
Id love to see another game like Inquisitor Martyr but with Space Marines and you can choose classes ie librarian, vanguard, etc etc... and maybe even a couple members of other imperial factions or allies. To see a straight up Diablo like 40k game would be a dream.
LOADS of choice for 40K gaming out there, but which is your personal fave? 🔫🎮
Chaos gate:daemon hunters(the new one)
Dead to rights
Probably soon to be space marine 2🤷♂️
I know you aren't including mobile only, but I have been digging Tacticus on mobile. Yea, it's a p2w game, but I've been playing it witout spending any money and have been enjoying it since it still has a decent pace without needing $$$ spent. It's basically built using the same system from the mobile game Rivenguard, but after trying both, I think the tweaks done to Tacticus make it significantly more fun.
Dawn of war 2 easy
I'm a sucker for Mechanicus (AdMech being my favorite Imperium faction) and Shootas, Blood, and Teef is a guilty pleasure of mine.

God’s work.
The fact that there are so many lost Warhammer 40K games should teach us this: game preservation is important and physical media has a reason for existing.
but its also very oddly fitting as lost knowledge and tech etc is big part of the lore - a case of fiction and real life blurring lines
Heck, sometimes they even release mods and updates for them to this day
Your kind cling to your temporary physical storage, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude plastic drives you call the temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you.
But I am already saved, for piracy is immortal...
Jokes aside, few of my xbox360 and ps1 disks don't work anymore. Physical media needs to be dumped. Otherwise there always will be risk of it dying.

For me Dawn of War (the first one) is the best Warhammer 40K game by a long shot.
Also, I hope we will see a list of Warhammer Fantasy games.
For me its DoW2 + Chaos rising, but first one is always close second.
DoW Soulstorm and its amazing fan mods that are still going strong today is the best. If we're talking only the base game, then I would probably agree that the first one was best.
Chaos Gate was a great game.
It is the best RTS I have every played. It beats all Warcrafts for me and Starcraft too.
one game of warhammer 40k that would be good would be a titanfall 2 copy that lets us fully control an imperial knight for some missions and a space marine for ground missions, and for especial missions let us use another type of titan like warhog or imperatus class
I’m from the future and happy to report that space marine 2 totally lives up to the hype
Rogue Trader and Space Marine 2 would prob be top 2 - maybe im biased though.
It's an 8/10 for me. Was hoping for a 9+ but there are a lot of little things holding it back
@@2Beastywith a lot of the improvements, new Operation, and balancing fixes in last week's patch, it's up to a 9 for me. It hasn't crashed once in a full week of consistent play since the patch. New mission Termination is an absolute blast
Dawn of war 1 is still top three with those two
I don’t know Warhammer 40,000 from a hole in the ground but it’s a lazy Friday afternoon, it’s an hour+ TripleJump video, and I’m here for it
Same.. Like I know in general what it's about, but have never played any of the games
I'll back the guy In a pandasuit, it's very cool and bleak and I never knew how much influence this series has had on games
All you need to know is Big E.
Is the emperor of mankind.
The warp has many names
Theres 4...5 chaos gods
All you need to do is trust in Big E.
Burn the herectic
Kill the xenos
Purge the unclean
40k is dope. Its worth reading about.
Warhammer is a religious experience. Accept the the God Emperor of Mankind as your lord and savior. 😁🤣
DoW 3 being above the Gothic Armada games is actual heresy.
(11days prior to this video)
This increased players, reaching to 33k peak players last month.
Darktide is a game of immense potential and can now be considered a good title. Only perhaps held back by the slow content updates
Dark tide is u playable
Y, give it a year though and it will be 10/10.
It was awesome but the class and loot update came too late, game was dead already.. :/
I would never put hired gun above death wing in any stretch of the imagination, hired gun is absolutely awful in every regard

Oh, Liberation brings back gooood oooold memories indeed, I still have the box somewhere and I'm glad I kept it because the artwork was really something ! I wouldn't even put it in my top 5.
@@Ultrox007So it is still in your top 10.
@@AAhmou Actually not sure.
40k games I love: Dawn of War's 1+2, Chaos Gate Remake, Chaos Gate original, Space Hulk Ascension, and 40k Gladius. (also put EYE here even though it's not technically 40k)
Ones I liked: Space Marine, Chapter Master, Mechanicus, Necromunda, Gothic Armada 2, [the other Space Hulks], Final Liberation, and Legacy of Dorn.
Boltgun is slightly below those due to its lack of variety in combination to its length. (67% the options as Space Marine, but twice as long), but I can't say I didn't enjoy my time, it just got tedious and boring.
At least it took 4 hours to reach that point,
unlike Dakka Squadron which got boring after 1 hour.
@@Ultrox007Nice selection, I love their RTS (DoW and both battlefleets) and Gladius is awesome, can’t wait for Drukari !
Depends if you prefer strategy or FPS, really.
You could tell they thought no one would ever see it and they lived their best Broadway dreams against primitive greenscreen.
yeah Final Liberation was fantastic
I mean he put eternal crusade above space Hulk deathwing and hired gun.
The soundtrack was the most 40k of all games imo
The idea that battlefleet gothic 2 was sub 10 is insane. That game is iconic.
It had a couple shortcomings, 1 being how much of a SLOG the campaign becomes later on.
2. Balance, while it was never that big of an issue, balance always comes a bit at the cost of uniqueness. That said, most every faction felt different. Especially eldar/deldar.
3. Limited campaigns, you only ever got to play a large portion of the factions in skirmish mode (either pvp or vs ai)
Boltgun has a "taunt" button...in a single-player FPS game...
"For the throne!"
So much fun
"THE EMPEROR DEMAND ENDING YOUR LIFE" goat game ❤❤❤
Aeronautica Imperialis is an actual tabletop game. It was originally released as a White Dwarf article to allow players to use existing pieces to play a spinoff game, but came out as its own standalone game several years ago. It even got an expansion adding on the Tau. It didn't go over too well though and only ever got Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Orks, and Tau.
Necromunda: Hired Gun has actually been nicely patched up - I don't think I've encountered a single bug through the entire playthrough recently.
This list is pure guess work, its a f*ing joke 👎
Darktide is actually very good now and deserves way more credit. The environments and ambiance is super authentic and true to the source material, and along with its fantastic graphics the presentation is absolutely top tier. The 'recent reviews' on steam would give a clearer idea of the current state and quality of the game (which sits at 'very positive').
Just going to the comments to say this, thank you for beating me to it.
same, when they said Spacehulk Deathwing is the best on the list for nailing the aesthetic i was like "Is darktide not on this list?" Also, I feel like rating it so low because of polish and lack of content without having revisited it seems disingenuous, especially with how much it gets right, specifically gameplay, aesthetic desgin and sound design.
Too bad Fatshark is one of the worst companies in the videogame history. Darktide is a gotcha mobile game. 40 bucks please
Did you played that updated version or day-one version? I heard later released updated version is much better experience.
@@tezeskop oh boy day one Deathwing was a broken mess, folks needed to disable their audio devices in device manager to get passed the bell chamber in chapter one due to a memory leak that would reduce your FPS to single digits 😭 that god for the updated edition!
@@mercurioslevin1877 i got Deathwing from PS plus and i think it was running 30fps on PS5. Turned me off. I loved esthetics though.
Remember red makes you fast blue makes you lucky and purple, well, ever seen a purple Ork?
Dawn of War 3 being as high as it is basically disqualifies the list.
I like Dawn of War 3 😅
Sure it isn’t anywhere as good as Dawn of War 1 and I would have preferred it played more like that game rather than hero hammer, but it is still one of the better 40k games out there in my opinion 🤗
@@bear4278 It is like... your opinion.
I'd argue it is one of the worst major 40k releases, discounting never-ending shovelware.
DoW3 is the type of game that simply makes me quote certain classic: "What were they thinking?!"
Couldn't agree more. I reinstalled it recently because I saw how little progress I had in it, played one match, and uninstalled. It's really not good.
The list isnt their personal opinion, its based on numerical metrics {Ratings, sales, etc) that they had nothing to do with
Man you seem to know everything and your opinion seems to be the only valid opinion, you should make a video…
Right now Rogue Trader is no1
I disagree with the positioning of Chaosgate Daemonhunters.
For sure, the new one is awesome. Great story, does the setting well. It's the best xcom-like out there.
@@jessewhite753 I definitely prefer having more units to play with like the original, but it was definitely a good sequel. Made me really appreciate the Grey Knights
I really enjoyed the first one despite being ugly...I will try the new one
Used to love 40k and genuinely had no idea SO MANY games came out in the back half of the 2010s for it...
If you'd put me on the spot before today I'd maybe have been able to name 2-3.
How do I collab with you guys on a ranking video
The box art for all of these games is fantastic
I've played spacehulk. If you are at all curious, do yourself a favor and play it.
The gameplay is pretty lackluster, but the atmosphere, level design, visuals, are all top notch. Id say its worth trying it just for that. The biggest issue i have with it really is that you are literally a walking fridge, you have about just as much grace in your movements
Pretty decent list and I rarely agree with these.
I haven't finish Rogue Trader, but I can already say it ranks towards the top, maybe even the top.
Given the number of games, it'd be nice if the description had links to chapters in the video.
Thank you for making these type of lists, they make my day
Very much agree.
Waiting for Total War: Warhammer 40k! Thanks for the list. I've added a few titles to my wishlist.
lets hope there will be a 40k Total War game in future.
I actually quite liked kill team but that's mostly because me and my dad played through it together and it was a fun time bonding over our mutual love of the series, shame it's been de-listed
Me and my friend played it split screen on my ps3 way back. Definitely underrated co-op gem
The Final Fantasy ranked list has no chance of pleasing anyone.
@@Banquet42 none of their lists do. Just look at the star wars one.
You do realize they are listed based on online rating. They don't choose the ranking
Yet they heaped praise on Dawn of War III (in the Top Ten of this list) which was near-universally panned by 40K fans and especially DoW fans.
Plus, Relic tried to appeal to the casual player rather than longtime loyal fans.
It has always been my opinion that a Dynasty Warriors style 40k game based during the great crusade and/or horus heresy would be amazing.
Never have I wanted a 40k game more now, that is absolutely a perfect combo
That was supposed to be Space Marine before they butchered the game. Look at the original trailer. It is basically Dynasty Warriors.
This.
The upcoming Rogue Trader game by Owlcat looks to be another great addition the setting.
played it , very good! adviced
Great video, but very small note:
I recommend changing up the music a bit throughout the video.
Are there any fan made PC versions / mods like they did with Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines?
Should have been ranked higher.
I had to turn my office upside down to confirm it, but I still have my physical copy !
@@p.b9085 i wish I kept my physical media. There’s something about big box pc games that is just so satisfying
ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES TO THIS DAY FOR 40K VIDEO GAMES!!!
Wish they had completed the expansions for the different factions and storylines.
WTF? The Tyranid threat in DoW II is alleged to have felt underwheling? Did we even play the same game?
Martyr is really solid. Wait for the sale. It happens almost every two months 😊
Best hands down the new RPG rogue trader . Only real Warhammer game
Can't believe Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate-Deamon Hunters wasn't even a mention. I played many of these W40k games and feel like Chaos Gate might be the best one, or at least would have placed in the top 3.
It’s in top 16 or so? But should be much higher
I was today years old when I learned that the Blood Ravens are not the Blood Angels.
Never have so many games fought for middling placement before. This is a rough batch a games here.
not just the games. Everything warhammer related is like this.
Its popularity almost exclusively coasts on 1 great product released every 10-15 years
Adding chapters to this video would be appreciated.
@@khinzaw77
The fact that most negative player reviews simply whine that it isn't a mere 40K reskin of Vermintide 2 certainly demonstrates the level of entitlement people have nowadays and should be largely ignored.
Battle Sister and DAWN OF WAR 3 being higher than Hired Gun is so, so, so fucking stupid.
I feel like if the video included darktide's newest update it would be much higher on the list.
Certainly
Now Marines 2?
This'll be interesting but i'm expecting Dawn of War (the 1st one) to be in the number one spot.
Not sure who wrote this list but i get the impression they haven't played a lot of these games. Dawn of War 3 is NOT a good game and does not deserve to be in the #10 slot. It was so bad all planned DLC was cancelled and we've not had a DoW game since. There are a lot of games that should be ahead of DoW 3!
Such as Darktide. Even after the class overhaul, it's far too low on the list.
Where is Rogue Trader?
I very (hazily...) remember enjoying/forcing myself to play through FIRE WARRIOR on the PS2 after picking it up for dirt-cheap.
I had absolutely no knowledge of what "Warhammer 40K" even was at the time, but there's a level in that game - where you first face some absolutely brutal Space Marines - that blew my tits off.
You saying 40,000 instead of 40k feels like an attack
@svenfold979 yeah, no Warhammer 40 thousand fan would do that.
Some of the old 90s games have a real soft spot for me, especially the original Chaos Gate and Final Liberation. Awesome games
Pleased to learn that Darktide got a big update recently offering more content and polish
But still no bloody story :(
@@BaranZenonHave you seen the Vox transmissions? There's alot of lore there.

Dark tide has gotten pretty good in my opinion they put alot more polishing on it recently
riding that darktide hate train?
And now we have owlcats: warhammer rogue trader my favorite 40k game to date, a great crpg with awesome storytelling

Retribution was an expansion to Dawn of War 2 yes
No Rogue trader or dawn of war 2 standalone DLC winter assault?
I will say, Deathwing did exactly what I wanted it to. I enjoyed it.

It’s far better now and truly a great game for warhammer fans and a good game for non warhammer fans.
Darktide should easily be in the top ten in place of one of the dated '90s games.

Did I miss something but wasn't there a warhammer 40k total war game? Surprised thst didn't show up on this list
I'd love to know how both chaos gates are so much lower ranked than a tactics game for phones.
