      +Ramses Ochoa The character was well portrayed, the actor was great, his motivations were great...... BUT I still feel the movie would have been better without him. The same story could have been done by simply having the video leaked online. That in itself is a red flag for how useless a villain was.

      Lame villain with not original motivations....
      Too many characters with the same stuff.Angry about their killed family just like three more characters in the same movie....
      Sorry but MCU dont know how to make good villain,and you fanboys dont know what good villain is.
      Only on Netflix they did it right,with amazing Kingpin and good Killgrave.

    He wanted Spider-Man for his webbing. It can contain your enemy and be used tactically and without a great deal of force. Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are offensive, not defensive. Stark wasn't looking to harm Cap. Also Zemo WAS a vital part to the plot. He was a snake slithering through the film, he didn't need or require a whole lot of screen time. I like that his motivation is revealed in the last act.

      +John Curcio One of the things that bugged me about Zemo at the end was why he killed the other Winter Soldiers when during the whole movie we are lead to believe that Zemo wanted to destroy the "empires" of the world so he could take over. But it all made sense when you realize that it was only more bait to turn the Avengers against and destroy each other for a simple personal revenge plot that it wound up being brilliant. I see Zemo as the culmination of the Avengers sins and failures and is my second favorite MCU villain next to Loki.

    • @HoustonSoto

      +Redpoppy when he said he wanted to "see an empire fall"' he was referring to The Avengers themselves.

    I still think John is absolutely wrong about Zemo being another wasted Marvel villain. After three viewings, I'm putting Zemo up there with the likes of Loki, Fisk, Kilgrave, and Ward. He's just an amazing villain with great motive, no superpowers, and succeeds where Loki and Ultron haven't, he destroys the Avengers and tears them apart. He is the first villain to actually win and he knows he won, "Did I?"
    Such an amazing villain and glad he wasn't killed. Very excited for what is to come from him.

      +Beastinrocks He wasn't needed for this story. The actor/character was great, but his part in the story was a waste. The conflict could have been fleshed out with more screen time for Tony and Steve had the video just been an online leak from one of the fallen Hydra cells that were taken out by SHIELD.

    • @LoganFerguson
      @LoganFerguson 8 років тому

      ***** I've seen the movie 3 times. Zemo was not needed, I stand by that. The Sokovia Accords creates division between the Avengers. Cap finds Bucky, tries to bring him in. Tony meets Bucky. Then the video shows up and Tony wants him dead. Pretty simple concept.

    I strongly disagree with Campea on Zemo, completely agree with Robert. The way everything fell into place was not because it was planned out exactly as it unfolded, Zemo pushed at certain points and adapted to the situation as it unfolded. He did not need those three people to arrive at the base together. His plan was to lure Tony to the base where he could discover the information on his own. FedEx wouldn't cut it, this way it would be undeniable.
    Zemo might not even have known Bucky did it, all he needed to know was that Howard was murdered for the super soldier serum which by itself would build on his resentment towards Steve. I assume the mission footage was kept at that base which is why it was important to get there initially. He was investigating what happened that night for most of the film.

    • @TheShadowedOne1
      @TheShadowedOne1 8 років тому

      +Kaleiohu Lee Exactly. Hell, I even think if the entire team was there instead of their battle at the airport, it would've made things even worse. Tony fueled by rage would've fueled his team to kill Bucky and Steve trying to protect Bucky as well as his other teammates would've done the same. Carnage.

    • @xmasta105
      @xmasta105 8 років тому +2

      +vahidrvahidr Agreed. John is really putting it out of proportion. I've seen the film twice and at first i found his inclusion to be a bit forgettable but after seeing it again I actually thought he was pretty good and his plan was pretty crafty. i do have to agree a little about the convenience of the end part with showing iron man the video but overall his presence helped to motivate the characters and he didn't take away from the film at all.

    • @vahidrvahidr
      @vahidrvahidr 8 років тому +4

      +xmasta105 I realize no one will probably see this message, but I want to write it out anyways.
      Zemo's plan wasn't even that coincidental because it kept failing on him. If the hydra officer he was interrogating upside down in the sink just told him where the video tape of Stark's parents dying was he would have just gone straight to Siberia, but it failed! That's the beauty.
      Then he pretends to be the psychiatrist and guess what Captain America and a few others find out he's an imposter really soon so he somewhat fails again, but still manages to escape in the mayhem.
      Now when he goes to Siberia I don't believe he knew anyone would follow him. My belief is that he just wanted to get the video tape and then reveal to Iron Man at some point, but it just so happened that everyone followed him to Siberia. Most likely because it made for a very dramatic ending. All in all I loved Zemo.

    About the Zemo plan for Tony to be on Cap/Bucky's side in Siberia. Zemo intentionally left the body in the bath tub, so then he had the lady bring up his breakfast and find the dead doctor, then it gets reported on the news and that's how Tony finds out about the actual doctor being killed and Zemo taking his place.

    Zemo got the info of Bucky killing Tony's parents when he brainwashed Bucky after the EMP. Remember? He asks him, mission report, december 16 1991... And it cuts to another scene... So his plan was to bomb the sokovia accord meeting(TChaka died) and frame Bucky... So that way, the ones that signed the accord would go after Bucky and would have to fight Cap America. Then, Cap and Bucky thought that he was planning to send 5 other winter soldiers to destroy cities or something... But Zemo really wanted the video of Bucky killing the Starks... Then he got the surprise that Tony was WITH bucky and cap. So he stayed and showed Tony the tape instead of running away without anyone noticing. His plan was to destroy the empire from within. Remember he says that? He ultimately wanted the Avengers divided. And he succeeded for a while. Zemo did NOT plan for Tony to be there with Cap and Bucky, he just went there to kill the other Winter Soldiers(Because death just united the Avengers(Agent Coulson) AND to retrieve the tape of december 16 1991(Bucky killing Starks). That was his plan. To inform Tony of Bucky killing his parents. He knew it would tear the team apart. Zemo is a genius. But ultimately, Cap saved the day. And Tony and Cap are NOT enemies. Which is dope!

    I really liked Zemo. He got overshadowed obviously, but the way he sowed chaos I found very satisfying. Plus, Daniel Bruhl performed very well. For whatever criticism people might have for the character, it's difficult to deny that Bruhl did a great job. And unlike a lot of Marvel villains, he's still alive. Perhaps a situation will present itself where feels he can actually create a force capable of destroying the Avengers. I would love to see more of him.

    I kinda have to disagree with John on the fact that what Zemo did was chance. It wasn't, it was chess. He puts in Buckeys that they he was looking for the other Winter Soldiers(thus the reason Buckey and Cap goes there). He puts into motion Tony believing Cap by basically revealing himself (by tell the made to come up to the room and she finds the body of the real doctor that was supposed to get Buckey). The only thing that was by chance was the fact that Falcon had to tell him the location but even then he knew they weren't pass the point of no return.

    • @kingofdemise666
      @kingofdemise666 8 років тому

      It was half chance and half calculated.
      Chance:
      1.The guy he killed being chosen to interrogate The Winter Soldier in fact it's unbelievable. The most important security landmark in the world and they do not validate credentials come on that's "FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE".
      2. There being a camera in the exact location where Bucky kills his parents again "FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE" as well as the fact that Hydra has a video of it in a bunker located all the way in Russia again "FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE".
      3. Zemo getting the book that activates the winter soldier. Why in the fuck is it not with HYDRA. They are still active so they should have known about the Super Soldiers and especially that book. Again "FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE". Just look at how preminent HYDRA is on Agents of SHIELD.
      4. Getting the Avengers to destroy each other just buy framing Bucky. It's believable but can not be calculated.
      5. Him getting the information to Tony/ Iron Man. That requires so much disbelief. Where would he send it to. Would Tony ever open the information if he never managed to find out where Captain and Bucky were going to.
      Calculated:
      1. Getting the information from the Hydra data dump at the end of the winter soldier. Him decrypting that information to track down the former Hydra agent.
      2. Him setting up Bucky and starting the man Hunt.
      3. Him trying to get information from December 16th, 1991 that he found in the data dump.
      Conclusion it requires to much disbelief in order to believe half of what Zemo tries to do. The chances are so low that it would happen that way that it takes away from everything he did in the movie.

    Zemo finds the tape at the Siberia base. He couldn't just send the tape by fedex. But he would've if Tony did not go there. Zemo was there to kill the super soldiers first, Tony showing up was a bonus for him. Although he definitely hoped for that to happen since he made the effort to lead Tony there and set up the tape

    I disagree with John I thought spiderman being there made sense. Tony didn't want to hurt Cap at that point and having seen what Spiderman could do with his webs I think he thought maybe the kid could restrain cap and bring him in under control.
    Also disagree with John. I think Tony and crew showing up in Siberia was coincidence. He went there to get the film and when the Avengers show up he's just like, eh screw it lets do it now. I can see his point I just took it differently.

    Zemo was an amazing villan.
    He was neither a super robot, an alien or a god.
    He was simply a man.
    A man filled with hatred, with the patience and cold intelligence to fulfill his vengeance exactly as he wanted.
    And the best part is that it was the Avengers that essentially created him.

    • @Dionizos666

      +mrcooldeadly85 Zemo would be better if he was behind registration,if he had costume like in comics,if he was a Baron and leader of Hydra who maybe lost his innocent family,and they should show flashback how Zemo is finding his dead family and looking at Avengers fighting in the sky.
      Crossbones should be a soldier of Hydra,he should survive entire movie,and then after Zemo is defeated or killed,he have his final laugh,because Crossbones after that would kill Cap or someone else.That would way better.
      Zemo motivations in movie were the same like many other characters in the same movie,a death of family member,because of that his motivations were not so original and had 0 impact.

      Maybe if they hadn't called him Zemo, it might have come off better. If you follow the comics even a little bit, the name Zemo carries with it certain expectations of and assumptions about the character. It just seemed like they took a generic bad guy, albeit with a justifiable motivation for tearing the Avengers apart, and tacked on the name Zemo because they felt like they needed a baddie from the comics to be the orchestrator of chaos in this movie. In other words, they wasted the name on a generic bad guy when they could have had any vengeful genius-level guy be the one to set things in motion and saved the Zemo people know for later. Maybe by keeping him alive at the end they can still do that in future movies, but until that happens, it was a waste of the name and character of Zemo.

    • @FEBAGames
      @FEBAGames 8 років тому

      +Cj Concannon I've read the comics since 1969/70. This isn't the comics, it's alternative. Since 2008 they've been adapting from the comics, changing whatever they think is necessary.
      In this story, the name wasn't necessary, but even though they used it I did not expect the silly mask, nor the history. That would have been too much for the film.
      However as you say, there's still the future and if they want to use him again they have a brilliant origin story here, the only man to defeat the Avengers. That's a great starting point.

    Everyone in the comments already ranting about Zemo was actually good. I'll add. 😎 How many comic book movie villains have as much depth as Loki? I think the "bad villains in Marvel" comment is Hyperbole. It may be true in some cases, but Redfield was good. Bucky, Ronan, and yes, Ultron were good. Other movies... Obviously, Joker from TDK. But any others really? Magneto is less of a villain in the X-men movies cause he's been working in tandem with the good guys or, now, working for another villain. It's internet hyperbole.

    • @colinpaine1343
      @colinpaine1343 8 років тому +1

      +Avi P Take The Dark Knight trilogy. Ra's al Ghul, Scarecrow, Falcone, Joker, Harvey Dent, Maroni, and Bane were all memorable villains. In three movies, they created twice the memorable villains that Marvel has in 13. I loved Zemo, but Marvel is weaker in the villains department, plain and simple. Bucky is not even a villain anymore, and Loki is more of an antihero, so they took 2 of their best and turned them into non-villains.

    • @avip8539
      @avip8539 8 років тому +1

      Colin Paine Scarecrow wasn't much but a filler for Ra's. Bane? I don't agree. Nobody is wearing Ra's Al Ghul shirts. Dent wasn't a villain until the end. Counter to your point about Bucky. Falcone and Maroni were typical Mafioso's. My point is, that it's more complaining to complain. The movies are great and the villains do what they are supposed to.

    • @colinpaine1343
      @colinpaine1343 8 років тому

      +Avi P I suppose they do what they are supposed to do, but that doesn't make them good villains. It just makes them MacGuffins. They're not well defined characters in their own right. Dent may not have been a villain until the end, but the reason I cared was because he was a real character. What was Malekith's motivation? To be a bad guy? Loki, Bucky, and now Zemo are pretty well defined characters. Not many other than those.

    • @ryanp6055
      @ryanp6055 8 років тому +2

      +Colin Paine same as Bane's? If you really want to get into motivation, how to do quantify the Joker's motivation as he really has none other than, screw it I'm doing this because I can and want to.

    • @avip8539
      @avip8539 8 років тому +1

      Colin Paine I agree about Malektih. But you agree about Bucky. Who we also cared about. I'm not saying all the MCU villains were good. I'm saying there are good ones but people exaggerate. I didn't care about Maroni, Falcone, or Scarecrow. For that matter, I didn't care about Ra's Al Ghul. He had a wack plan and was just a means for Batman to become a hero. So now you just have Joker. Which goes back to my point. All this talk about the lack of good villains is clouding the fact that villains aren't always as superb as Joker or Loki. Again...hyperbole.

    Zemo, being my favorite villain in the Marvel Comics, even though he was not true to his origin in the slightest was a fantastic villain to this movie. He was pulling the strings behind the scenes (as opposed to kidnapping one of their mothers😒) and he successfully did that. There were no flaws and no conveniences.... It was all Zemo behind the scenes. We haven't seen his full potential yet and I say he was fantastic with the hope that we haven't seen the end of him yet. He will wear the purple crown at some point, I know it. And I've got my fingers crossed for a masters of evil story line.

    The reason why I say Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man, is because in those scenes I didn't see an actor, or a stuntman in a costume, or written lines. I saw Tony Stark meeting Peter Parker, and then I saw Spider-Man. Everything about him was just exactly how I see that character. I enjoy Toby, and Garfield I really liked but they were never both characters. Toby was a good(not great) Parker. While Garfield was a good(not great) Spider-Man. It felt like the way I did when I first read the Ultimate Spider-Man, just the perfect combination of everything that makes that character great. Spider-Man's trademark is not his quips, it is his unfourtune. Everything that kid does goes somehow to shit, but what makes him great is that he fights against the bad things with his optimism and humor. When he said ''You know I was really having a good day today mr. Stark. Didn't miss my train, this perfectly good dvdplayer was just laying there and algebra test... nailed it.'' That was the most Peter Parker line ever spoken in any movie ever. It says so much about him that these are things that genuenly excites him when he can do the things he can do, and the subtext in that these things really does not happen often. He was perfect.

    I still think Winter Soldier is a tighter, better story, but Civil War is easily MCUs best
    -Fantastic writing that balanced over 12 characters
    -Action on par or somehow better than Winter Soldier
    -Somehow manages to be the darkest/most serious MCU film AND the funniest (to me)
    -The best superhero action scene in all of cinema (BvS warehouse/Winter Soldier/ and Spider-Man 2 train fight all come close)
    -This is Cap 3, Iron Man 4, and Avengers 2.5 and still well balanced
    -For me, best Spidey hands down! I get Campea's point that we only saw him for 2 scenes, but those 2 scenes captured Spider-Man better than all 5 films (Tobey was fantastic though)
    -Avoids cliches (Cap, Bucky, and Tony fighting 5 super soldiers)
    -A good Villian that suffers from no screen time
    -Perfect introduction to Black Panther
    -Nothing feels too forced (not even Spider-Man)
    Cons:
    -You can nitpick certain things about Zemo's plan
    -They went over Peggy's death too fast. This is Cap's number one gal who he wanted a future with, but never got the chance to have one. I wanted a little bit more
    -Bucky and Steve NEVER address Peggy and I found that odd
    -Steve says Bucky is a victim but we never really see how Bucky's emotionally dealing with it (the line "I remember all of them" was great though)

    I think this film needed a subtle villain to make the big video tape reveal work. If we'd seen a diabolical, pink mask-wearing Zemo from the get go, it would have been fairly obvious that he was trying to set up the destruction of the Avengers. The way it was played, it felt more like he had a personal vendetta against the Winter Soldier and Hydra.

    Zemo knew Tony would find the dead person in his apartment because Zemo sent the room service to his room. Zemo knew that it would be in the news that the person that was supposed to question Bucky was killed.

    You guys never talk about Tony's final words to Steve: "That shield doesn't belong to you. You don't deserve it. My father made that shield!". I'd like to hear your opinions on that.

    AVENGERS 2012
    Cap "we have orders. we should follow them."
    Tony "Following's not really my style."
    to
    NOW
    Tony "We need to be put in check."
    Cap "We're surrendering our right to choose."
    Quite a 360 for both characters by the time we get to this point. and that is the arc, my friends. That is a fully realized character arc. Cap's grown and changed, Tony has also.
