    When Hulk saw the video of Natasha and started yelling "No Banner", it broke my heart. And how he revealed to Thor how sad it makes him that Earth fears him makes me think that his 3 movie arc ends with him dying in Avengers 4 and everyone seeing him as a hero.
    And Odin telling Thor he was stronger than him was aces. I needed more scenes like that, but I was very happy with Ragnarok. Beautiful cinematography and action sequences with Zeppelin playing was amazing!

    Was the movie not sold as a action comedy buddy cop film by the director and cast? They’ve been saying it all year that it’s a comedy heavy film and people are still complaining about comedy? Do you really think Disney would’ve allowed a dark and violent Ragnarok film showing bloody, gruesome deaths... no. Even WB cut back on the violence and darkness of the DCEU because of fan outrage over how the films/characters were being done.

    Only thing I didn't like was that there was zero emotional impact from the Warriors 3 dying. None. It's never mentioned, Thor doesn't morn the loss of his friends. And they had maybe 10 lines of dialogue total. It was really strange they were just killed asap and that was it, it's like they didn't matter.

If I or you showed up to fight someone who is threatening everything we loved and knew, we would say or find out....hey where are my BEST FRIENDS that are warriors as well to help!!! After the fact on the ship as well no one says by the way or Thor doesn’t say ooo by the way where are my BEST FRIENDS!!!!???

      No spin-offs for the Warriors 3......or is there one ?
      The true W3 earlier were replaced by an advanced alien race to service as Asgardian batteries - a self sustaining power source. They escape back to Asgard; as an early warning system thinking to warn other gods that crazy Thanos is coming. W3 get here just after everyone on Asguardian soil already knows Thanos is on his way. So, Warriors 3 are guys still out of the loop that mean well.
      Lady Sif will say, “Now those are my boys.”

    Great Heros show! Absolutely enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok, and the only moment that made me feel a bit disappointed was how off-handed the Warriors Three were removed (except Hogan gave a bit of a fight). As a fan of the Walt Simonson run, the Warriors Three and Sif are terrific parts of Thor's story, though I realize that most, like all my friends that I watched the movie with, did not have the same attachment to these characters. Everything else was above expectation.

    I don't think there has to be a new 'Thor'. I'd see a Valkyrie standalone movie without her taking up the 'mantle' of Thor. Considering Mjolonir was destroyed and that was 'the power of the Mighty Thor' there shouldn't be a 'second' Thor. If Thor dies or leaves, new characters should continue...as themselves.

    Ultimately I just didn't like the tone of Thor Ragnorak. It was funny and lighthearted but that was all. For a third installment in the franchise, where Asgard itself is destroyed I wanted a lot more emotional heft. Also, how they handled the deaths of the Warriors 3 actually angered me.

      I think with a lot of superhero power stuff there's a big element of the efficacy of their true powers being reliant on them believing in themselves in order to unleash their potential. From what I recall he was getting shocked before he harnessed his power in the Hulk fight. When he was getting zapped he was at an all-time low after his father dying and Asgard being taken and his hammer being destroyed. I'm probably just creating excuses but hey I loved the movie!

    Rocha - You're constantly screaming about 'white washing' and 'controversies' (Ghost in the Shell, etc) with many other movies / casting decisions - Yet in this review, you've come to the light - it's about the re-imagining and portrayal of the character - NOT about the color of their skin - be consistent dude

    • @84C4
      @84C4 6 років тому

      Then he asks people to not make a big deal about race when he constantly does. So lets review, Gods of Egypt cant be white but Gods of Vikings should be black. No bias there.

    • @shill1444
      @shill1444 6 років тому

      84C4 - no. Not the same characters. These are NOT Viking Gods. They make a point in the other Thor films to show how humanity misunderstood and misrepresented the Asgardians. If they would've stuck to the Norse lore then of course this light skinned black girl wouldn't fit as a Valkyrie but here, because they are alien beings of various colors (remember Loki is blue) we can give this a pass.

    • @shill1444
      @shill1444 6 років тому +1

      Brian Ward - not defending Rocha here but there are different scenarios at play. You're talking about whitewashing a main lead character or an entire film as opposed to making a side character another skin color. They still played it safe because Tessa Thompson is about 2 shades tanner than Hemsworth is. Lol

    • @bajansamurai
      @bajansamurai 6 років тому

      People choose to miss the point. Whitewashing was always a bigger issue than minority inclusive replacement because whitewashing often took away the FEW minority roles that were even available in the history of Hollywood. It was to the extent that white actors literally did black make up to portray black characters because actual Blacks were prevented from acting in many productions, period. Just because that era passed doesn't mean everything automatically became 1:1 representation overnight. The shift to allow more diverse people wasn't instantaneous, and the modern 'inclusion' process is not always going to be seemingly fair game for a white actor to shift over a role expected to be played by another ethnicity/race.
      A history built on complete absence has a slow shift towards balance or equal representation, and the era of time when novels, prose and comics featured a good variety of lead non-white characters is relatively recent, so there are not as many diverse, huge main characters in comic media as there are white, huge main ones. The effort is therefore towards working in other ethnic backgrounds into roles expected to be Caucasian, or mining the ethnically diverse roles to make opportunities to include characters more diverse, not swapping out diverse roles for Caucasian actors.
      That said, they chose to include a Black Valkyrie, and are not trying to say she is Brünnhilde/Brynhildr. The film alludes to Brunhilde being elsewhere/else-when after already establishing that Asgardians are diverse. Simple translation is that Norsemen only really saw a few that came to Earth, and those were white like they were, leaving them to believe that was what Asgardians were. By comparison, sure, Heimdall is an outright change, but the point was to make inclusion.

    I think one cool thing you missed was the fight scene between the whole Valkyrie army as the person who steps in front of the sword that is about to kill Tessa Thompson was the original (or least it did look like) the original Valkyrie from the comic books Brynhildr.

  • @WebSpyder777
    @WebSpyder777 6 років тому

    For those who don't like the reinterpretation of Valkyrie, and I was one of them, do keep in mind that they never actually call her Brunnhilde. As a matter of fact, if you watch the flashback, it could be Brunnhilde who sacrificed herself to save Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie. As far as her becoming the female Thor, I think the character is perfect as is and would prefer she keep being Valkyrie, though I think bringing back Jaimie Alexander and letting Sif take on the female Thor role would be amazing.

    I wished this was a Planet Hulk movie acting as a Thor sequel. None of the
    simplistic motivations for Surtur or Hela worked for the movie. Thor being an unconventional character has always been presented with conventional tropes/ideas.
    All the stuff on Sakaar were the best parts. Too bad we never got to spend too much time on it.
    This shows me that Marvel and its assembly line of films still can't flesh out their villains. Hopefully after Infinity they can start fresh and put more value into their antagonists and generally more complex stories and motivations.
    TAKE BIGGER RISKS!

  • @Brook11223
    @Brook11223 6 років тому

    I saw Thor Ragnarok 2 times in a row (IMAX and regular - Snagged a cool poster) and I have to say this really was comic book story coming to life. In this it was mainly Thor finding his place and what he is capable of. He was at the crossroads/going through a crucible which I thought was shown perfectly. Even Loki had his own crucible and what he was going brought that emotional journey. When it came to Odin that gave me tears because his end was near and seeing him accept his fate was tough to watch. When it came to Hela I thought the twist with her backstory was interesting. Seeing MCU deviating from the comics is not a surprise to me and making her the daughter of Odin was not a bad idea at all. She really felt like an amalgamation of Odin's secret Daughter and the Gorr the God Butcher. When it came to the Hulk I have to say his performance gets elevated when he is part of an ensemble cast and the back and forth banter with Thor, Valkyrie really makes him a standout character. Some of the funny moments with the Hulk were the callbacks to Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015):
    Thor getting slammed back and forth by the Hulk which Loki endured in Avengers and Thor Taming Hulk like Black Widow did in the opening sequence of the Sokovia Battle in Age of Ultron.
    When it came to the Warriors 3 I was really disappointed as to the way they let go. I really feel they should do a Marvel One shot as to exploring there adventures that happened between Thor: The Dark World and the beginning of Thor Ragnarok. Also Lady Sif not showing up was just unfair. I really wish she was in this film. When it came it came to Karl Urban's Skurge to me he was the underdog trying to get appreciation which he never got and was the unsung hero.

    For story-pacing reasons, I think they might have cut Thor meeting with the Warriors Three before they go through the Bifrost , so they could get to the Odin, Thor, and Loki (and Hela--all four-letter names...weird?) scene more quickly since they had to go through Dr. Strange first.

    Hela already has the tesseract. She know what it was and would be stupid not to take it. She uses the tesseract to make a duplicate and upon the destruction Asgard is forced to utilize it now that the source of her power is destroyed. Loki will think that he is betraying Thor to Thanos and tries to give Thanos the tesseract, but Hela has already bargained with Thanos. Long story short Loki is destroyed and Thor is thought to have been destroyed, but is blown away with his ship and the rest of the asgardians are enslaved by Thanos. This is when the Guardians come in, responding to the energy spike the battle with Thor and Thanos produces.
