- The US FDA issued an emergency use authorization for Pfizer’s Covid-19 antiviral, Paxlovid, which is the first COVID-19 antiviral authorized for emergency use in the United States. According to Pfizer's press release, Paxlovid cuts the risk of hospitalization or death for high-risk patients by 89%, based on the clinical trial data.
In Paxlovid, there are two antiviral medications: nirmatrelvir and ritonavir, co-packaged for oral use. Nirmatrelvir is a protease inhibitor to stop the virus from replicating. The protease inhibitor Nirmatrelvir will inhibit the protein-cutting reaction of the 3C-like protease of SARS-CoV-2 so the viral replication would be inhibited. Ritonavir was originally developed as a protease inhibitor for HIV protease. But in Paxlovid, it acts as a booster by inhibiting the drug metabolic enzyme in our body called cytochrome p450, which is present in our intestines and live.

This is a miracle dose of pills. Started feeling better after first dose of 3 pills after suffering from fever for 2 days straight. Took 3 pills the evening I got the prescription, and I was finally able to sleep that night. Fever came down considerably. I didn't care about the after taste, I just needed relief from the pain and fever.
Thank you so much for this video! It has helped me gather the information that I need for my Life Sciences 11 project, in a way I can actually unstand. Articles these days use words that people like me are unable to fully understand, and your video explains it using both scientific terminology and easily understandable words to help people understand the big picture. Seriously, thank you. I was so lost with all of the website until I found your video. It helped me a lot. :D
I’m really glad it helped you! Good luck with your project and the class!
Last virus I was in ICU and step-down for 7 days. Recently got Covid...J and J primary and Moderna.booster....got Paxlovid ...was only sick for 3 days...minor temp of 99.1..... the metallic taste was terrible....tired with a slight headache......better than full blown Covid I say!
I recently was prescribed this drug after testing + for Covid 19. I was wheezing and get pneumonia at times, this seemed to work rather quickly to clear me up, how ever the bitter aftertaste nearly done me in. I took the five day doses and it was about 36 hours before the taste left.
I’m on my third day and it seems to be working… But yes the aftertaste is definitely a turn off… But it is what it is..
I am on day three and the aftertaste for me is very, very minor. So everyone is different.
Im sitting here 2 days after covid testing positive with a prescription of paxlovid sitting here in front of me wondering if I should just take it?! I heard about that after taste!🤢 Its making me nervous to take it! Even though I've seen so far how quickly covid symptoms progress! I went from a slight tickle in my throat on Friday night to full on cold symptoms with fever and body aches by Saturday morning! Took the home test twice and it popped up positive so quickly! My Dr. Called in this paxlovid and it's now Sunday night and I feel like 💩!!! I sound like a lifelong chain smoker coughing so hard and yet I've ever smoked before! Im double vaccinated but not boosted. Should I take it?🤔
@@UandMeGod I would say take it. It sounds pretty safe. As long as you are not taking anything that is incompatible with it. Maybe you can wrap it in a small piece of bread so it didn't hit your taste buds. I think we may have tested positive on the same day.
@@blueconversechucks tested positive Saturday morning
Had the tickle in my throat Friday night on my 3rd packet of paxlovid and that after taste is nasty I thought I was the only one who had that
Thank you for the information.
This info is amazing. Thank you so much. It answered many of my questions.
Glad it was helpful!
2nd day on paxlovid. No after taste has occurred.
Hi. Great video. If a person has allergies and has not been vaccinated, can they still be treated with this new medication without serious side effects such as anaphylaxis.
Hi Evelyn, I'm glad you found this video helpful. The side effects of a drug could be caused by various factors. Please consult your healthcare provider on this matter:)
my husband recovered within 3 days of beginning paxlovid but immediately began experiencing high blood pressure and despite high blood pressure meds within one month suffered a stroke. if I had know this I would have insisted he take one baby aspirin a day.
Maybe it’s the fever or maybe I’m just not that intelligent but I feel like I barely understood anything.
It's highly technical, which is ok but don't feel bad.
This made me break out on a neck rash. And it made me feel like I was in the fight of my life. After 3 days I had to discontinue.
