NEW COVID-19 antiviral Molnupiravir: mechanism of action, effectiveness and safety concerns

What is the new Covid-19 antiviral Molnupiravir? In November 2021, UK approved the first Covid antiviral drug that can be taken orally, called molnupiravir and branded as Lageviro. This could be a huge milestone in fighting against Covid because orally available antivirals are much more accessible and can be taken at home.
When the coronavirus enters our body, it inserts its genetic information, or mRNA, to the host cell. The ribosome from the host cell will latch on to the viral mRNA to produce viral proteins. One of the viral protein produced is called RNA polymerase, which is important for viral mRNA replication. There are four RNA building blocks that RNA polymerase uses, which are A, U, G, C. RNA polymerase pairs an A with a U and a G with a C to create a complementary mRNA strand. Molnupiravir molecule can be incorporated into the newly replicated mRNA stands because the structure of molnupiravir resembles the structure of a C or a U RNA nucleotide. This will cause mutation in all the downstream replications, and the virus cannot survive.

This drug was just downgraded to 30% from 50% efficacy by Merck, plus the instructions from Merck says to not have reproductive sex after taking the drug, and other disturbing caution’s.

I'm on it now and have read the insert, there isn't anything disturbing about it. it's probaly quite safe in many of the situations the insert says not to take it in but the warning are there purely because it hasnt yet been tested in these situations. Plus all drugs, ever over the counter meds, have side effect. Also, a 30% reduction in severe illness and hospitalistion is a massove help to our overloaded health systems.
