And because of how important the ion channels are in human physiology, they are related to many diseases and being able to control and regulate the channels become really important. Currently, the ion channel family represents one of the largest target classes for existing drugs.

    Thank you for posting this! Something I'm a little confused about: you stated around 1:04 that a peptide bond is formed via "a dehydrogenation or condensation reaction". Isn't dehydrogenation the removal of JUST hydrogen? So, it wouldn't actually be a dehydrogenation reaction in the case of a peptide bond forming?

    my husband recovered within 3 days of beginning paxlovid but immediately began experiencing high blood pressure and despite high blood pressure meds within one month suffered a stroke. if I had know this I would have insisted he take one baby aspirin a day.

    id say both are likely and are not mutually exclusive, in fact id say that it is absurd to assume that selection can occur without the degree of variation (of one at least) still being capable of performing the necessary catalyses. Id also say that over time selection would move towards a lock and key level of fit. But ive been wrong before :) 10/10

    This was really helpful :) I'm a new PhD student starting a project about targeting GPCR-mediated extracellular acid sensing by tumor cells and I'm just starting to learn why GPCRs are such common targets of drugs. In the future, maybe the exact GPCRs responsible for binding protons can be identified and targeting them can limit tumor cells from positively responding to the low acidity conditions they generate!

      Very interesting! Is it through immunotherapy? I would imagine targeting it with small molecules would be hard without knowing much about your target.. I’m learning so much about the GPCR as well mostly on a structural level. Good luck with your PhD:)

    Last virus I was in ICU and step-down for 7 days. Recently got Covid...J and J primary and Moderna.booster....got Paxlovid ...was only sick for 3 days...minor temp of 99.1..... the metallic taste was terrible....tired with a slight headache......better than full blown Covid I say!

    This is a miracle dose of pills. Started feeling better after first dose of 3 pills after suffering from fever for 2 days straight. Took 3 pills the evening I got the prescription, and I was finally able to sleep that night. Fever came down considerably. I didn't care about the after taste, I just needed relief from the pain and fever.
