  • As my first video back on UA-cam in over a year, this was an important one. I go into detail about why I am currently not eating a vegan diet, what lead me to this decision, and how I planned to eat moving forward and in the future. I also cover an even more important topic which is food labeling, and putting yourself into unnecessary boxes, which just end up puts a lot of pressure on yourself. This is definitely vulnerable video so whatever your eating habits are I encourage you to be kind in the comments to everyone. Sending you a lot of love and please share any questions you might have a comments or any future videos you’d like to see from me.

I am still vegan, but I dealt with eight years of massive bloating and discomfort before finally finding out that I had a severe soy allergy. I was feeling so terrible constantly but didnt want to give up. I am finally feeling great as a soy free vegan, but it can be difficult! I suffered for too long and wouldnt wish that for anyone else. I'm glad I figured out what was wrong, but if veganism is making someone feel terrible or if its not accessible, they should do whats best for them!

I’m glad you persevered! Honestly, it’s really not hard to avoid soy. I have nothing against soy (if it’s organic), but the only soy product I buy is miso. And one can find chickpea-based miso (soy-free) as well. There are hundreds of other delicious and healthy plant foods out there. Glad you’re doing better!

@@EmilFromEarth who says gluten and soy are necessary for one to maintain a healthy vegan diet? I practically never have gluten or soy - not because I have anything against them, but because there are so many other things to eat! We are really talking about avoiding wheat, barley, rye, and soy. Who buys wheat berries, barley, rye, and soybeans at the grocery store? Very few people. Ah - but the problem is that many convenience/processed foods contain these foods as ingredients. Fine - avoid processed foods like you are supposed to anyway, and you can be a healthy, happy vegan. Problem solved. Next excuse, please?
(Obviously, I wasn’t directing this to you, directly, Emil! I’m just so tired of all the pathetic excuses. I wish they’d just be honest and say “I just don’t care that much about the animals.”)

Hitler suffered with bloating. His doctor found that eating veg, high carbs was causing bloating - fermentation.. 50 micro nutrients are missing from a vegan diet along with a B6 form, there are 2. His doctor recolonised hist gut over a year, and his stomach bloating was gone.

@@jglee6721 on the contrary. A whole-food plant-based diet is *much* more nutrient-dense than a diet that includes animal products - because plants are much more nutrient-dense. They contain hundreds of phytonutrients which are simply absent from animal foods - and these nutrients are not optional.
Also, let not pretend that we do not have actual knowledge/evidence of the healthfulness of vegan diets. With confounding factors controlled, vegans have lower rates of chronic diseases compared with vegetarians, who do better than flexirarians, who do better that omnivores. I’m sorry - that’s simply not debatable; it’s a matter of fact. To assert that vegan diets are hazardous is just wishful thinking with the intention to justify to oneself or others the choice to commit moral atrocities against sentient beings - atrocities one would never want committed against one’s pets.

Hey!! Thanks for sharing your story 🤍 I totally relate to the bloating. I was bloated for years and came to learn my thyroid wasn’t working properly (aka hypothyroidism) and after getting properly medicated my digestion is substantially better and I don’t deal with constant bloat anymore.
I tried the vegan route, the pescatarian route all around the time I didn’t know about my hypothyroidism and it just felt like it wasn’t doing enough.. I decided to go back to eating meat because it just wasn’t helping me with the bloating. What has been effective on top of being medicated has been continuing not to have dairy and little to no gluten and of course clean eating in general, but this time including meat and seafood.
A lot of women go undiagnosed until they become much older and since I heard you mention something about your thyroid I felt I had to share because it was such a long and crazy journey for me. Anyways, good luck on your health journey! 💕

Hi, Mona. Thank you for your bravery with this video. I know it took courage to do! I too have experienced some of the issues (loss of hair, stomach bloat, etc ) that you mentioned after now hitting the 6-7 year mark of being plant based. I was considering adding a bone broth protein powder to my daily intake as I don't think I could mentally handle the taste of meat fish or eggs being consumed in the traditional way. Question for you. Did you experience any stomach pain, acne etc when reintroducing non plant based foods back into your lifestyle? When I would some years ago do 30-60 days w/o meat and dairy then go back to it, my stomach would tremendously hurt and I got acne. Also, now when I've accidentally eaten something that had cross contamination, acne would pop up within and hour as well as gas, stomach pains etc. Or was your transition back to those things smooth?
If anyone else, can answer this too, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks so much!

It may be that after long plant only eating, your stomach acid is low. Try a general digestive enzyme with your meals, & start sparingly adding in bone broth, meat broth, yoghurt, or baked goods with eggs &/or dairy. As you re-adapt, add in more, actual red meat, fish, poultry, poached eggs, milk, cheese, etc.

Hey Mona.. I followed a vegetarian then eventually transitioned to a plant based diet for 14 years.
Then this past March I started following a Carnivore diet to help me with my chronic migraines. Cutting out all carbs and sugars helped me tremendously with my chronic migraines.. no migraines.. my neurologist was excited about my results. At the end of 100 days of doing that I started adding a bit of fruit and veggies , and immediate migraine attack for the next 2 weeks.
Also my stomach was always bloated..
so long story short.. I feeling my best at the moment..
so my point is to do what is best for you and your health..

I would pass on some bone broth/raw milk if you can and then start with fermented veggies (sauerkraut) and see how you do. Eventually can read some veggies and see what happens. Fruit is also great and probably won’t cause the issues like regular veggies do

@@weich1q2w Not really interested at the moment in adding fermented foods especially sauerkraut as it can cause some issues of bloating. I ate sauerkraut when I was pkantbased and it still did not fix my issue. About a month ago, I had some berries ( blueberries, raspberries, blackberries) while visiting my family and as long as I have a small amount, I am ok..
I have made my own broth and it was good.
Everyone is different. Migraines are a neurological disease and what works for one person does not necessarily work for another. As for raw milk.. maybe at some point.. I personally have never been a fan of milk..

love this! thank you so much for sharing. I think its super important. As someone who had eating disorders in my late teens to early 20s, I have always struggled with food. Eventually, in my 30s I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia/mecfs and severe ibs with multiple concurrent food intolerances. I had to rebuild my gut immunity. I had tried ALL the diets in my past, but had to get over that 'diet' mentality when it came to rebuilding my gut. With my doctor's support, I started with elimination diets and got my IGA food testing. I tried plant-based and low fodmap but there were too many foods that I was intolerant to like gluten so I couldn't continue. I tried veganism, but again with intolerance to corn, beans, pulses and grains, I had to stop. I tried whole30 but didn't feel my best - and then eventually settled on mostly paleo but with the occasional rice as a grain that I don't react to. It took me almost 3 years to find what is my new way of eating. Due to chronic illness, I am still rebuilding my gut, keeping my vagus nerve stress free through meditation and in my case, having to still take medication which reduces my pain levels to a 6 out of 10 and thus gives me a good quality of life. I share my story because life is not all one thing or another. It has room for a lot of greys. And being flexible as you learn what works for you can in some cases be not only life-saving, but much more authentically heathly!

Decided to add meat eggs and butter, very little plants right now, my hair isn't falling out half as much, stomach issues are 80% better, teeth are more stable and my hands don't hurt for nothing, still want to add more plants but doing it a little at a time so I can evaluate how my body reacts.

@@JnTmarie the digestion issues some people experience aren’t the fault of veganism or of plant foods. Rather, they are because one’s microbiota has thitherto been fashioned to digest processed foods and/or animal foods. The gut bacteria that digest fiber and resistant starch need to be cultivated somewhat slowly, over time. Little by little, as one eats more fiber and resistant starch, one is preferentially selecting for bacteria that feed on them and starving bacteria that feed on meat. This is what normal human digestion is. After all, most of our cousins, the great apes, eat a 99% plant-based diet.

Not just acute stress but chronic stress (i.e. trauma). The more I’m working on calming down my nervous system, the less bloated I’ve been. I eat mostly healthy foods but it’s not “clean”. Diets may help in the short term, but the root cause is the sympathetic nervous system being activated for too long. The mind (conscious and subconscious) body connection is very strong!

Did you have the bloat problems before you started bulking?

Would you mind sharing what your bother discovered about his heart? About 2 years ago I also started having heart issues and went vegan for that reason. My cardiologist commended this decision. I am not overweight and do not have high cholesterol, but I figured it was the healthiest thing for my heart. I still have palpitations.

You should find out if you have a magnesium deficiency. Hope this helps. 🙏🏼

I am slowly changing my lifestyle to plant-based lifestyle, and this video is awesome and so honest. This video hasn't changed my mind about going plant-based, but it does make me want to look into grass fed and grass finished meats.

This is amazing, I had the same experience and felt so ashamed at first when transitioning but now feel so much better ❤

My first day of eating meat again after 4 years vegan, the shame is so real! :(

Thank you for speaking about this honestly and in a calm and loving way :) I can’t help but notice a pattern in most of the “I am no longer vegan” videos. People become plant based thinking it will make them 100% healthy and beautiful and perfect etc. And when they realise it is not this magical diet, they start incorporating further restrictions into their diet which messes with their health. As with any diet, nutrition is important and if you are restricting, you will have to find ways of adding nutrition back to where it is lost. I have been personally vegan for 10 years and thriving. But I have also made sure to eat a variety of foods and never restrict myself with different diet fads or by eating mostly bananas or watermelons and salad (which is what I have heard in two other “I am no longer vegan” videos). Sending love to everyone and please think of the animals and our planet too ;) x

So true and I see it this way also as a long term vegan who has seen people come and go! You have to be in it for the right reasons, animals. If you’re in it for primarily other things, to lose weight, follow a trend, try it out, etc it just won’t last long term.
