  • I have a 2016 Ram Power Wagon with 118,000 miles on, that the fuel pump went out of. I was stressing about pulling the tank or pulling the bed which means I'm doing all the electrical connectors that have mud all over them and trying to find the bolts are rusted and covered in mud. so in the end I decided to cut a hole in the bed and I do not regret it one bit. my fuel tank says diesel on it and so I believe these tanks are the same for a gas or diesel I don't know for sure but that's what I'm guessing. and I think whether you have a rambox bed or a regular bed that the fuel pump will probably be in the same spot unless you have a different lengths wheelbase truck, or maybe a mega cab l, so I would recommend getting underneath with a mirror and finding out exactly where your pump is before cutting your bed. I do think majority of trucks will have it located where mine is.
Important to note, I soon found out that my original pump was too big to physically pull out in one piece. i had to undo the plastic clips that held the very bottom portion on and then the top part came out after i clipped the purple tank level sender wires that connected the two halves. Then i was able to squeeze the remaining plastic bottom section together enough to get it pulled out. The bottom plastic half literally was too big around to get out while the top part of the pump was still clipped into it.
Thankfully, the new Delphi pump had a smaller diameter and was plenty small enough to slip into the tank with no problems. You probably won't be able to get your original pump out in one piece. If you are able to, you'll probably have a real time doing so. Good luck!
I ended up just using 2 pieces of angle iron, both 10 inches long, to screw the bed hole shut.

I always cut the box even before I need to replace the pump. If the truck craps out on the road ,I can replace the pump and save the tow and a big bill at the shop. And you are right the truck should have a panel over the pump from the factory.

My fuel lines are leaking and I have been thinking about jacking up the bed but this looks like the way to go. The pump is fine for now but if I take it somewhere they are gonna drop the tank, replace the pump, and fix the lines. I can do this fix the lines then do the pump when needed. Thanks man

If it's a 2500, I would bet so. But i would crawl under there and feel for that big round ring and those fuel lines to verify before you go cutting up your bed. I was able to locate my pump with 100% confidence and measured things so that i cut correctly and you can too. Whether your pump is in the same location or not, it will look like mine in the video so visualize the top of my pump a for when you are reaching up and feeling around for yours. Good luck!
