I feel like Batman comics need to find a balance between smaller scale noir detective stories and more fantastical stuff. It would also be nice if Gotham wasn’t being destroyed or taken over by the new villain every other arc, it just lessens the impact every time it happens

As I remained a stalwart defender of King’s Batman run from the very first issue, it was nice hearing him clear up some of the grievances I had with his run. Things like how Alfred wasn’t supposed die, Flashpoint Batman wasn’t supposed to be the main villain and it was supposed to be Bane from start to finish, Ric Grayson was meant to be Dick experiencing vertigo/fixed by magic, etc… And finally that BatCat was supposed to be married by the end of the run.
Things I always commended him for doing outside the actual stories he made, was how he never once had a Batfamily spanning crossover event keeping the story self contained within the Batman title allowing the creators on the other titles to write their own stories uninterrupted. The other was how wrote every arc with only one artist and changed arcs when the artists changed, all the way until the final City of Bane arc.

I think the good point that was brought up, is that compared to some new one off villains in previous runs, they were with the point in mind and they wouldn't be forced be next big thing, like Manikin and Nobody, even Manchester Black from Superman comics, their stories existed with message in mind first and they were used to tell the story, if they stuck or other writers were interested in them or not didn't matter, because their initial purpose was done. Ghostmaker, Clownhunter and Punchline feel like they should be some main stays of the mythos, specifically designed to be open ended so you would need to work with them, making reader and other writers frustrated that you didn't give your OC anything to be remembered and doing your work for you. Making fun new villains is all and good as long as there's any story beyond them and they exist as actual represent something narratively.

Sal did not like Snyder/Capullo run for quite while and now 10 years later he likes it quite a bit. Time changes perspective and distorts memory. Morrison also introduced plenty of characters, maybe even more than Tynion. Yet it is GOATED run. I on one hand welcome the new characters. I know what to expect from Penguin or Mr. Freeze stories. If comics books are marketed as a something more than a Sunday morning cartoon, I expect more substance to them.

I very recently finished reading the New 52 run, and I wholeheartedly agree with your frustrations with the whole "oh, looks like Gotham is lost again" thing. In the New 52 run, you have in order: the second half of Zero Year, Eternal, Endgame and then Superheavy. All of these arcs have catastrophic events happen to Gotham. Back to back. All these stories are fine on their own, but back to back it feels completely redundant. It makes the big, epic "all is lost" moments less impactful.
On a different note: Endgame is soooo lit. It's so badass. That arc is honestly up there with DKR and Killing Joke for me. For the longest time, nerds like me would keep saying "Joker just wants to play with Batman". And I love how simple yet ingenious Snyder's premise is: what if he stopped playing? I also love how Snyder's Joker is seemingly this unstoppable force of nature, which makes Batman's victory (and him mocking the Joker) so much more satisfying. If you told me my favorite Joker story would end with him being pantsed and humiliated, I would laugh at you, but this is the way to do it.

I really don't get why Snyder is not overwhelmingly seen as one of the greatest Batman writers of all time. _"Court Of Owls"_ to _"Endgame"_ and everything in between is easily in the top 2 or 3 all-time great Batman Runs in my humble opinion... _"Zero Year"_ gets shit on quite a bit(especially by Sal) and I just don't get it... I love that it is an updated version of _"Year One"_ where they kept everything that HAD to stay for a Batman origin to work.. But then they added everything that fills out the Bat Universe that _"Year One"_ neglected...I mean, the Gotham Mafia stuff is cool- but doing that PLUS showing the emergence of costumed Supervillainous criminals is cool too me. The Red Hood and guys gang was really cool too, especially that we see him clearly become Joker... But it's not the story, so it's not followed up on. For us, the readers, it's Joker's Origin... But for that particular story... It's simply the end of the Red Hood...I don't know, I think Sal should give it a re-read.

If people want more happy Batman then they should buy Batman Beyond comics about son of Bruce Wayne who is Terry McGinnis. Bruce Wayne shouldn’t move on from his parents death because it is part of his character since i was 7 years old. I won’t buy Batman comics where Bruce Wayne’s Batman is very happy. As Batman fan that will turn me away. The most interesting thing to me about Bat-family is that some of them such as Bruce Wayne, Daimon Wayne, Thomas Wayne are very dark, broody, and full of rage and you have some such as Dick Grayson, Terry McGinnis, Barbara Gordon, and etc are very light and happy. Peter Parker’s spider-man is supposed be very light and happy not sad nor misery. Bruce Wayne shouldn’t move on and always be Batman.

You are the one who has outdated views and you are evil and selfish. Bruce Wayne is perfect just way he is and he doesn’t need change. Like I told you before that is best thing about Bat-family that it has something for everybody. Where people get darkness characters with Bruce Wayne, Damian Wayne, Thomas Wayne, and more lighthearted characters such as Barbara Gordon, Dick Grayson, Stefanie Brown and etc. You are the one who is outdated and selfish.

I will just say I wish Alfred came back already and Bruce got his money back because him losing his money has had literally no impact on his character, no interesting stories have come out of it so might as well reset it.

I hope he stays dead and Bruce loses more money so it actually impacts him. Fuck status quo. Fuck resets. Fuck reboots. Either let the shit these characters do matter and have consequence, or completely stop pretending to have a moving, living universe within your fiction so you can start publishing only self contained one-off stories where everything is reset immediately after, with no reference to the previous work.

I'd rather one of the bat family put away the costume permanently & stepped up to be Alfred's replacement instead.
