Even tho the comics didnt make him more popular, Mr. Freeze is definitely the prime example of taking a joke of a villian and giving him a top tier upgrade in terms of the design and backstory when reintroduced in Batman TAS.
personally I always feel like he's a joke. I give the animated series props for the attempt. I see where they tried. But it just never worked for me. And since then and up to now I never care for Mr. freeze story or appearances. If I see him, I know it's going to be boring pr at least his part isn't going to excite me in any way
Wouldn't Dr. Destiny getting his ability to sleep and dream back be the best ending? It's revealed that his entire villain persona was a symptom of an unfathomable psychosis brought on from not being able to sleep for years. Him being able to sleep and therefore dream, means he loses his powers, and he'll also start to recover mentally, keeping him from doing anything bad in the future.
@@Devil-Damon WhatCulture got almost every detail of the Doctor Destiny story wrong. Destiny didn't have his ability to dream restored by Morpheus at the end, for a start. His power also didn't come from his lack of sleep, but from Morpheus' ruby amulet. His inability to dream was caused by the JLA to cut him off from bringing his own dreams to life.
Ten-Eyed Man belongs on this list after his incredible transformation from pathetic to terrifying in Arkham City: Order of the World. In fact, so far the comic is giving this treatment to ALL its underrated D-listers, but by and away Ten-Eyed Man was the biggest joke of them all, and now he's NIGHTMARE fuel. It's incredible stuff.
Basically, I recall he doesn't want to make impossible traps because they would be boring. He was also upset that the other villains still didn't respect him after Arena being called out for just kidnapping some kids.
Not sure if it's still cannon, but he a) used to make a lot of money designing legit theme-park stuff before he tried making them more murdery and b) designs training facilities for other villains.
Dc has done a good job at writing formerly dumb characters in cool ways. They did a great job with savitar an cisco, calendar man and kite man, black hand, the court of owls, the riddler, parallax, volthoom, legion, topo, halo, cheetah, etc.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the best stories need the best baddies. Don't get me wrong you can still make a great story without them, there are many, but the majority of great ones need an antagonist to push the climax to greater heights. You think of your favourite movies and stories, and I guarantee that there is a memorable and competent effort from the opposing side.
A few others I'd add... Kraven the Hunter, Kraven's Last Hunt (duh) Molecule Man, Secret Wars Gibbon, Hunted Gog, listen Nick Spencer has his faults but he's really good at making me like dumb stupid villains In the world of TV, you've also got Mr. Freeze and Mad Hatter in Batman TAS. But I mean, Kraven is probably the ultimate example here... I guess he was never as lame as some of the others, but his ONE good arc (fight me) was a pretty dang massive improvement.
I always loved Ruby Thursday in the Romulus arc of Wolverine. She gets some decent motivations, genuine dialogue, and actually takes down Wolverine single handed. Also calling out The Spot in that...spine tingling run of Daredevil
Stilt Man in Fraction & Aja’s Hawkeye. When you’re 30 floors up in Manhattan standing on a ledge, feeling the vertigo, add one (well drawn and written) Stilt Man and it’s no joke.
Soooooooooooooooo, you managed to bungle Doctor Destiny's story pretty badly. I don't think you even have a good excuse with the amazing audiobook available on Audible. For the record, John Dee AKA Doctor Destiny lost his ability to dream because of the actions of the JLA. His power came from Dream's ruby amulet. His altering it caused it to draw more power from Dream when he tried to reclaim it and gave him the power to drive the whole world to madness. After finally losing to Dream, he did not have his ability to dream restored. He (and the rest of the residents of Arkham Asylum) was given a peaceful sleep, still without dreaming. Very freaky story. Definitely read the original or listen to the audiobook.
The one thing I remember Deadshot from was _Batman: Gotham Knight_ - a compilation of shorts, each one animated by a different anime studio. It's also noteworthy that Kevin Conroy voiced Batman in all of them. It's also noteworthy that it serves as a sort of inter-quel between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The short featuring Deadshot also shares his name, and is animated by Studio Madhouse, whose notable features include Chobits, Trigun, Cardcaptor Sakura, Beyblade, Kirby: Right Back At Ya!, Hunter x Hunter (2011 version), Black Lagoon, High School of the Dead, Overlord, and freaking ONE-PUNCH MAN. Meanwhile, the short was written by Alan Burnett, who was writer and/or producer for a huge number of animated cartoons from the mid-late 80's to the late 2000's, notably The Smurfs, a few episodes of DuckTales and TaleSpin, and the entire DC Animated Universe (Batman: TAS, Superman TAS, Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited and even Static Shock)! Between them, this pair just about DEFINED our childhoods and teenage years. If only for Deadshot alone, I highly recommend _Batman: Gotham Knight_ to both anime fans and fans of Batman: The Animated Series.
Boomerang wasn’t in the sinister six . He was in the sinister syndicate ( different team). Hence having 5 members . Which include beetle , hydro man & boomerang
Next week idk what channel shall I either buy a t-shirt or hoodie from but when I do, I shall take a selfie and tag the channel to it! Merry Christmas Whatculture Comics! Stay Geeky!
I think Quakemaster should be here since he was kind of a one off villain before he became the driving force of Batman Cataclysm, even successfully destroying Gotham city
Nah, guys like Boomerang and Shocker have too much money to be blue collar. The difference is WHERE their money comes from. These guys get paid to do crimes, whereas mooks like Scorpion and Armadillo commit crimes to get money.
If you want to see more villains that were pushed to the side now become insanely horrifying and awesome I recommend Arkham City: The Order of the World.
you know they did good with a turn around when just by herring the name cullender man the reader go's "ow shit, somethings about to go down or it already has"
Even tho the comics didnt make him more popular, Mr. Freeze is definitely the prime example of taking a joke of a villian and giving him a top tier upgrade in terms of the design and backstory when reintroduced in Batman TAS.
Sadly comics never quite managed to match that achievement... and with the New 52 actively went out of their way to ruin Freeze.

Not remotely how that actually works. They really messed up Doctor Destiny's story from Sandman.

Kraven the hunter. Before kraven's last hunt, he was a joke but that story made him really iconic.
He was never really a joke, he was just sort of a B list villain.
The last hunt is probably one of my favorite story in comics
Imagine a DC writer making Snowflame a top-tier villain
All they need to do is place him in a suicide squad movie and just make him useful to the mission.

Maybe Arcade is already super wealthy and isn’t in the hitman business for the money, but for the challenge and the prestige.
Basically, I recall he doesn't want to make impossible traps because they would be boring. He was also upset that the other villains still didn't respect him after Arena being called out for just kidnapping some kids.
That was certainly the case in the MODOK series. Taking on a hit for the "purely symbolic" sum of one million dollars.

“Superior Foes of Spider-Man” was a hilarious surprise! Can’t recommend the series enough.
Arcade sells the kinda real estate Joker's always shopping for.
