If Marvel needs new stories to tell for Peter, just let him have a family. It's such a good fit for his character

Have Miles Morales be the young spiderman of NY and have Peter Parket be the spiderman of the Multiverse.
Just re-introduce Madame Web as a guide and have Peter travel to a different universe.

He should continue to take on the likes of Ock and Kingpin while also trying to juggle family life, like he used to try and juggle school. Both Peter and Miles should be allowed some space from these constant cosmic shenanigans and allowed to fill they're natural niche in the universe
@@rickrivers2021 Yeah, Pete doesn't need to be multiversal. Just let him grow. Miles can easily fill Peter's original role as a young hero. Peter's arguably in his 30s now. As a man in my early 30s who is looking to settle down and start a family someday, seeing a friendly family-man Spider-man would be really relatable.
Edit: And I'd argue that Tomasi and Gleason's run on Superman shows that you can tell a good superhero story about parenthood, and what do ya know, Marvel has access to Gleason and they're wasting his talents.

Mayday and Annie are a thing. Hell, he and Black Cat could have kids. Idk, point is that Peter should still be Spidey and just NOT be miserable. That isn’t relatable or cool; it’s depressing and sad. Peter can still be Spidey in NY. There’s enough space for he and Miles. It’s a big State, there’s multiple cities, blocks and so on. Daredevil is in Devil’s Kitchen, which is like a small part of NY. There can absolutely be more than one Spidey in NY. He doesn’t even have to move to another State, let alone an entirely different reality. Marvel just needs to stop being jerks.
Yeah it is but editorial isn't going to let that happen neither will the corporate side of Marvel writers want to do that but editorial is going to tell you not to do it because they don't think it's going to make any money and even if it is Tori wants to do it then there's going to be somebody breathing down there next thing it's not going to happen all the fans want Peter didn't have a wife and kid and still have a lot of the same struggles but no one knows how to write that and the people that do are getting paid enough to write stuff like that or aren't being hired to do

As a Ben Reilly fan. The problem with Ben Reilly is that Marvel doesn't understand what concepts works for him. Ben works best when he's like a brother to Peter, but Marvel always think he works best as replacement for Peter
This. Pete's home life is depressingly lonely, especially without the marriage. Harry's dead (again). Randy pops up every once in a while, but he'll disappear soon after. Ned is either dead or evil. That's part of why I like Teresa. She's a familial bond (regardless of whether they are or not), that's close to him in age.
I'm desperate for them to just give Ben the Iron Spider suit and let him lead the freaking Slingers, just let him have a bunch of Minis with the team

At this point, reading Peter Parker Spider-Man books is like watching an old friend just completely torpedo their life into the ground and ruin everything for themselves and every time you try to reach out to them, they just stab you in the back and make you feel guilty for them. It's honestly really hard to care anymore.

I like these discussions more than the DCEU/MCU ones. Not knocking y'all for doing them, cuz I know that's where a lot of the attention's at, but everyone seems more invested/engaged with the comic-centric discussions
Even if it's a bait/switch, it doesn't give a lot of confidence to readers that this is the best you can come up with for the character. The first issue is Peter's on the outs with other heroes, the second is a break up with MJ, what's the third issue? Doctor octopus explains how superior he is?
I don't even know if Wells has an idea of what happened in the six month gap. Or editorial mandates stopped that plan and he doesn't have a fully formed backup. It's been dragged out way too long. And I held out hope that the breakup wasn't what it seemed, because Wells was part of the Beyond Board, and they seemed on a good path there, but after the bit where MJ hit Peter with the responsibility line, I gave up hope it was going anywhere I was hoping.
I'm just baffled they just don't make Ben and Kaine just a brotherly duo at this point. It would sell because people actually like Ben and Kaine both being good, it gives them a unique branding as not just 1 Spider-Man/Scarlet Spider going around, and people just genuinely want some more good guy adventures from both Ben and Kaine. It would be cool if we could see more of Ben and Kaine interacting and developing their dynamic as two brother clones. We don't need Ben to be a replacement to Peter, he should just be able to work alongside Peter and other Spidey's. Though with Mayday being real, there could be a something with Ben Reilly actually being a mentor Uncle Ben to her.
I don't recognize Spider-man anymore, it's been downhill since he died. I check in every now and then and just shake my head, waiting for a better hook than: he's the chosen Spider of the Great Web, or he's a second rate Tony Stark, now he's best buds with the guy that killed his girlfriend? Pass

I've been reading comics for 40 years, and it's always bizarre to me when long time readers place more validity in the nonsense written when they started reading than the nonsense being written currently. It's like grown folks who think music has only declined since they were teens.
As someone who has read comics for like 10 years I can say it's gone up and down in those 10 years. And that it has hit a major down for Spider-Man. I can also say that from all the Spidey I've read the 2010s were a major downgrade from the 2000s (pre OMD). Spider-Man comics are in the toilet rn
Been reading for nearly 30 and I agree completely. Spider-man has always been a roller coaster in quality, and what's happening now is still far better than anything that happened in the 90s or early 2010s.
Yes completely agreee, been reading for a long time and this the nature of comics, nostalgia is hell of a drug. But for some folks to say comics haven’t gotten better is outrageous.

I'm here for Sal ranting about Spider-Man. I do wish Marvel treated the Spiderman line of books with more care and love. Instead, we have annoyed Sal and I can't do nothing but enjoy it
Please just bring the first part of Renew your vows to main. Like him having a family, a small child to take care and teach. Something like what they were doing with Superman (which was so great) before Bendis decided to have a bigger ego than lex luthor.

You want a true Spider-Man villain from the clone saga Era? SpiderSyde had true potential. He was a perfect clone that had all of Peter and Ben's abilities plus was enhanced in other areas "like shape shifting". His design back then was cool plus he had the hate and viciousness of Kane and Venom with Peter's intelligence and dark humor. He didn't even die at the end of the clone saga...he was mopped into a containment unit.

Yeah I'm suprised after all these years they never really pushed the spidey/cat relationship to the degree of peter and mj or even peter and gwen,(which I hope we get too see in the potential new trilogy in the mcu along with the comics hopefully)
I think it's because they've spent a lot of time defining Felicia as more like a hook up than anything for Peter since their original break up

It’s stories like “Gold Goblin” that reinforce my liking of both “Infamous Iron-Man” &”Incorruptible”.
Cause so far,from what I’ve read, those are the only 2 Villain To Hero stories where the villain turncoats…and N O B O D Y believes them…at all.
Throughout both of those entire runs, the only thing the side characters talk about is wether or not the villains going to villain again,and said reformed villain has to just keep proving to people they won’t. Cause for most comic villains it doesn’t matter how hard you try, you still have a reputation & breaking that wouldn’t be as easy as getting shot with a sin-gun…Norman….
I always loved Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider since I was a kid in the 90s. Mostly because I loved his suit and the fact he had to deal with knowing he was just a clone. I definitely am not a fan of being so far away from that.
By the middle of its run Superior Spider Man vol 1 was selling 80k an issue
It was doing really well and on par with amazing and they said "eh I don't like making money"

I think the big problem of Marvel is that most of the flag ship characters don’t get to grow and change. Daredevil changed, Thor changed, Falcon gets to be captain America again, Agent Venom is back, Eddie is the king in black and going through major change. But Spider-Man changes for an arc and then has to go back to being broke and miserable
Not only does Marvel have a misery fetish when it comes to Spider-Man, but in order to make that happen, they'll do whatever necessary even if it doesn't make any sense given what has happened right before it. Honestly, Dan Slott's run making Peter a genius who owned a corporation and released major technology advancements should have changed the status quo of the character forever. Peter running the company into the ground is completely believable, but the idea that a single major failure effectively blacklisted him in the business world to the point that he had to return to the Daily Bugle is absurd. In reality, when a person gets into that kind of position, they effectively can fail upwards from that point forward if they're unethical, or bare minimum get hired by someone else who keeps a tighter leash on their creative output while still paying them an absurd amount of money.
Peter Parker being a broke loser should no longer be on the table as a setting at this point, but because that's what Marvel wants his default to be, they make it happen no matter how stupid the path they take to get there is. And because they're willing to make stupid leaps to do whatever they want, it's that much harder to care when they want to pretend there's gravitas to anything they're currently doing to the character. No, I just don't believe you anymore. If you do something interesting that improves the character I know you're just going to screw it up later on to revert it. I'm sick and tired of it, and I suspect a lot of other people are as well.
Sal put it best in another video but a comic series shines best when it sells in the "okay" tier because it doesn't have any corporate onlookers and there aren't many fans to gatekeep. Daredevil and Moon Knight have had consistently amazing runs because they don't sell well ironically, so the big bosses let the writers do whatever they want.

MK has the opposite problem from Spider-Man. You have writers like Bemis and Bendis coming in and not giving a sh#t about character history or identity.
The crazy thing is the X-Men are just as popular if not more so than Spider-Man right now and they're in a completely new status quo that's been going for a couple years by this point

Benny is trippin. The top selling manga outsell superhero comics by like 10x. Demon slayer, one piece, jjk, OPM, bleach, HxH, CSM, Spy x Family, and Dragon Ball. Can each individually sell out the entirety of Dcs line or at least half of it. It’s crazy. It’s just facts. The superheroes only hang on cause of merch and 60+ years of sales. One piece alone outsold every single Superman and Batman comic on its own in only 22 years. It’s sad truly.

The problem with Ben Reilly is he is a clone. So if they make him normal then he is just peter parker who has most of the same life experiences and personality. So they have to make him unhinged to seem interesting
Except they nailed the unhinged/edgy approach with Kaine, who though I love, I don't remember anyone asking for him to be brought back (when they did) to attempt that with. They should've just kept Ben shelved/dead if they didn't know what to do with him
@@famousthaneus9810 For me the best examples of clones are x23 and superboy. Theyre not 100% their counterparts they have different personalities, look different and grew up differently. Whereas the spider clones are like I would be 100% Peter Parker but Im a fake so my memories dont matter I guess it's time to change morals and behavior.
They should just make him different from Peter Parker. Like to me, Ben Reilly seems to be the more hip, cool, and fun one while Kaine is the strict no nonsense dude that is mature. Both extremes of Peter Parker basically right there to flesh out on!

The big difference is they have to treat their life as if it was a dream or simulation. What would make the most sense is if they be like Peter Parker but in some other state or dimension. Or use magic or something to get rid their past and start over
Just make him the light hearted Spiderman. Peter always had the duality of happiness and edge. Kaine nailed the edge, so Ben be the side of Peter that enjoys being a Superhero and doesnt get down in the dumps🤷♂️
I would argue that the first 23-25 years of Spider-man publication history are fairly consistent and solid. The original clone saga from the seventies was of course silly comic-book non-sense but it still was grounded to Earth in that it didn't go crazy with the lenght of the storyline, the plot twists, nor the amount of characters involved. There was a respect for the established editorial line of the character that wouldn't allow for extended or radical departures.
The clone saga from the nineties on the other hand is when Spider-man comics went on full self-parody mode, basically rehashing an old storyline and upping the amount of twists and characters, not caring at all for the damage that was being done to the character. It's hard to believe that it's been about 25 years since that story.
At this point the Spider-man series is at the second or third iteration of old storyline rehashing. Each iteration making the character history sillier and dumb. The existence alone of loads of spider character derivatives is proof enough of this self-parody phenomenon.
For me the series decline started with David Michelinie and I eventually dropped it when Mark Bagley arrived. Only a selected handful of good stories since then and for the life of me I cannot understand why people keep buying that comic unless they have a genuine appreciation for a self-parody of Spider-man and not for the actual original character.
Ben Riley is not like a brother to Peter, he is a fake person that remembers things that never happened to him. I didn’t buy the brother thing in the 90’s comics, I don’t buy it now. Would you want to be friends with someone “exactly like you”? That’s weird on a lot of levels. He’s also another redundant character in an era where marvel is doing everything they can to make Prime Peter less special and more redundant which makes this the most annoying time to have reintroduced Ben, but also makes total sense because they are out of ideas.

What happened is someone saw is what happens when writers write themeselves into a corner / are to prideful to admit when they made a mistake
At this point, Spider-Man comics are basically just over-glorified Peter Parker torture porn. Marvel will never let him be happy and will always make miserable for the sake of cheap drama. Peter never grows up, never changes, and never makes any progress with his life. The Spider-Man mythos has become stagnant and meaningless.

Ben Reilly is always done dirty
I think they have told every story they can with Peter *AS HE IS RIGHT NOW* the single, perpetually down on his luck, unfortunate, broke college kid, Peter is done. Say what you will about Superior Spider-Man but Otto fixed his life, started a business, gave him the means to actually enter adulthood and all that needed to be done was have Peter actually apply the intelligence he really does have to the job, he could even pull a Tony and have MJ run things as proxy, while he kept up the Spider-Man stuff.
Peter and Spider-Man stories with the Peter we've had since OMD is done. The writers, editors, and marvel as a whole need to get over the idea of this Peter and grow him up. One More Day needs to be walked back already, this story has existed ten years too long. MJ and Peter need to get back together, actually get married and Mayday should be in. Miles has gained popularity from the movies, that right there is your young spider-man if you don't want Peter to be a mentor. Have Miles figure things out on his own. The newer readers are more likely to know Miles than Peter, and the movies do nothing for 616 Peter because they simply aren't him as he is (Tom Holland).
Older readers know Peter, the audience for this Spider-Man is older men and women who grew up with Peter Parker and are loyal to him and maybe some of the clones. Need Killer/violent Spider-Man? Bring in Kaine. Female Spider person? Gwen or Cindy if you can figure something out with them. Jessica Drew should be left to Avengers and maybe join Heroes for Hire if they're around. Ben should just be a brother to Peter and Uncle to May. Repair Peter's relationships too, maybe if you did that and then took the F4 out of play due to Negative Zone or space adventures in their own book, by time they get back May is the same age as Franklin and Valeria, let the kids adventure together. Hell you can even throw Danielle Cage in there.
Nine days until ASM #25 and man I can only imagine the incoming shitshow and after it I don't know what's going to happen with Spider-Man fan side.

DC & Marvel BOTH do the same thing when a villain gains popularity Marvel & DC feel the need to stop presenting that character as a villain DC has done this with Bane, Marvel is currently doing this with Normal Osborn, and in either case it only lasts until the next writer decides he needs an explanation for his villain to do something out of character.
Thought I was the only person who wasn't a John Romita jr. fan...
Marvel needs to call these guys to direct the story lines.

I really like JRJR, but I think he’s not as good as he used to be. I think his best was around the JMS run/world war Hulk, though I have to say my favourite time of him is in the 80’s on Roger Stern books, he’s drawing more classically with modern sensibilities and I think it really holds up. The Juggernaught story comes to mind!
With the context of how he gets the name chasm that is definitely stupid but the costume doesn't look that bad the colors are kind of cool it is a lot though it's a lot of colors at once and it does look like a symbiot which is dumb they might as well just made it to explain it better which they probably didn't explain very well I have not read the comic that being said I do make the effort to watch UA-cam videos to keep up with what's going on in the comic

Let Peter settle down with Mary Jane and their missing daughter. He can then be a mentor for Ben Reilly and Miles Morales versions of Spider-man. Heck, give him a photographer angle and a hidden asset that can minorly trip up villains here and there. Can evolve him and even Norman and Jonah into making an organization the helps the webbed heroes. Huge, year over year arc, that could eventually collapse under public scrutiny when Peter is found out to not only be photographing, but assisting the heroes. Lead to lawsuits from villains claiming they were just putting on a show and shouldn't be in jail. More things could pop up to sabotage the company until, eventually, Peter resigns as the photographer and turns over his stakes in the company to Norman and Jonah. Sorry, I thought about this and it definitely needs refinement, but the current arc is so flipping awful and I stayed through the Clone saga.

I feel they're trying too hard to spearhead the spider-man series so hard into the ground just to replace him with Miles. Miles' series have been lukewarm and forgettable. They tried to bring Ben back and then other people took over the title and were hellbent on ruining Ben too and hating Ben fans. Spencer was actually a Ben fan but left somewhere early on in the beyond arc. I feel like Ben or Kaine could have easily just replaced Peter and it could work since they are both still Peter's anyhow so the fans could enjoy him still.
These issues are why you don’t read the AAA character titles, this is why you read Thor or Daredevil or Moon Knight. This is why you read Worlds Finest and Human Target cause those stories are allowed to tell what they want without editorial breathing down their neck
As much as I love Ben Riley, I feel like he really can’t work as well as another Spider-Man in the modern day, especially since Miles is here. Miles is more marketable and has something that’s really rare in characters that being beloved by old comic book fans and newer fans. He’s in the video games he’s in the tv shows. A person on the street can recognize miles morales before they can recognize Ben Riley. I feel like Marvel knows that. It feels like they don’t need to, but throw Ben out there to appease the older/hard-core Spider-Man fanbase for a couple years before he’s written off for a while. This also pains me to say it, but the same thing applies to Kaine too. I love him so much.
I feel like good writers would find a way. People cherish clone characters in concept a lot when they have a great legacy. I agree though that Ben Reilly and Kaine by themselves can't really work. But they should be around because the way their character is made is too interesting to expand on to me.

I think the chasm suit looks cool but the whole thing about Ben Reilly not being able to be good consistently and Peter Parker also being able to be in his own book or the same book and I'm actually being able to write both characters and just have them be two different unique characters kind of sucks I mean it doesn't kind of suck it just sucks 😁✌️

Obviously there's nothing wrong with providing a story where a character gets a new super suit or costume or whatever but when that's the entire story and there's no actual like plot or storyline or whatever and like specifically with Spider-Man where you know you don't get to see The duality of if Peter is going through something crappy he's most likely because Spider-Man is doing okay or was just doing okay or good or just save the day right or if Peter Parker's doing great that means most likely Spider-Man not and that's kind of the one the best stories is seeing how he's going to balance his life is Spider-Man and Peter Parker what things in his life as Peter Parker going to get screwed up because the Spider-Man has to happen will he debate throwing the costume in the garbage again for the umpteenth time that's a good Spider-Man story not here's a reworking of villain we've seen before and a character we saw once in one of the first ones of Spider-Man with a new coat of paint the reason why for all the criticisms early versions of and Riley work are because he's equally as flawed as Peter Parker maybe not exactly the same way and no that story is not perfect it's flawed it's just as flawless Peter but if you're a long time comic books reader or a person who understands basic sense about how to write a good story you understand that because these characters are flawed in the story itself is flood that we get to see that when the story is at its best and when the story is at its worst you can laugh at it or be bored with it but when there is no UPS to a story and it's just oh look flashy thing in my face the only thing to do is to go yay for a few minutes and then be bored until you get to go yay for another few minutes that's not a good story it's not a good progression it's not good character writing it's it's just bad but that's usually not what Spider-Man is it's not how to write Spider-Man and it's not who Spider-Man or Peter Parker the character is but certainly it's not how Spider-Man should be written it is how Marvel currently is written candy in front of a horse the horse being the fans then the candy being taken away then brought back in front of us then taken away no one wants it but that's what we're giving
for teenage spiderman I think the miles comics do a good job of telling that story and aspect and now that they released a new number 1 with different creative team, its a good jumping on point. They need for peter to fix all the bs they have done with him since brand new day
I agree, it sets up a new villain for Miles as well as new challenges and situations that'll he'll be facing. I'm excited.

Unlikely. The major money with Spidey has, and probably always will be, in the merch, and the Mouse still has those rights. They gain nothing by trying to obtain his movie rights except for the burden of having to making those films themselves to appease the Internet

Give DC had something like amazing Fantasy that it would be a good way to have sideways in a few of their other characters that nobody knows about and that aren't doing well be seen by more people and then you could have some of those characters backups in larger characters books as long as you had a writer that could write that backup just as well as they did the main story and gave that backup story a good amount of respect then you could get this characters respect because just like the fantastic four right now and some other characters sideways is kind of there where maybe not in the mainstream yet but backups for comics and the fantastic four much more well known but anyway I don't know to come book industries confusing I think they just need to get out of their own way Marvel in DC individually on a corporate level creative level and just make comics have fun take chances make mistakes get messy but not to the point where it actually causes them corporate trouble and they file for bankruptcy that's the wrong kind of messy 😁✌️

Marvel need to seriously fix Spider-Man comics or people will just drop it. The new miles book came out this week and it wasn’t bad maybe that’ll be the one.
It's fine to do a fun story where things get quote on quote shaken up but the big focus should be on the character's story and writing not on what's going on in the world or money although money is important when creating a comic book for a big company but the fans are also important but the fans aren't the ones writing the comic any hoosit story characters plot art in the general comic book itself most important thing any fun extras surprises that should come naturally if the big focus is just having fun and writing the thing and I think the companies that pay the people to write these things forget that or maybe never knew it to begin with ✌️😁

I know it has almost nothing to do with what you're talking about in this whole video but you bring up older comics having a third line and bring me some stuff up that they talk about and characters back that they've had in the past but actually progressing the story and it made me think of boom studios power Rangers comics and how for the most part it's here's a monster here's a story in the background but you're not going to see that Monster again and it's not monster of the week because there's always story progression and there's always character progression and you're always going okay what's going to go on with these characters what's going on and yes it's the same characters every week but it's not the same villains every weekend when it's the same valence those villains aren't always doing filling stuff there's always a way that the boom studios people are shaking it up but that's boom studio it's not Marvel and it's not DC and I get that but I'm thinking that way while there are definitely criticisms of boom studios as a company and they have made mistakes and not all the writers and creators of boom studios have always done absolutely fantastic jobs all the time because they're human but if Marvel and DC would go and look at what's boom does we get better stuff consistently

Owned by big corps yes but the comics are made by boom which is considered indie
