“You cant put a spin on something that doesnt exist yet.” That incapsulates these kinds of things so perfectly when people talk about how a character needs to be changed up or is boring. How is that so when you barely ever done a real representation of the actual character yet.

Snyder is all about deconstruction. But you have to build it up first so it can make sense. For example, Batman going dark, branding people so they get killed in prison and full on killing guys himself might have been better received if we'd seen him be the guy with the no killing rule for several movies before starting to decline into darkness. Instead we skip over 20 years of his progression and jump straight to him having descended into darkness.

My main issue with zack Snyder's version of superman is that he's missing his sense of altruism, he doesn't help people because of sense of duty, superman helps people because its the right thing to do

You can make a cynical Superman, just introduce him that way (you can call him Super Boy), but don't then walk that back to make us empathize with how he had to compromise his hopeful outlook when put in a bad spot. If he doesn't have a hope for humanity, then I can't believe him when he says he just lost his 'faith in humanity' like some UA-cam commenter.

Well JJ Abrams admitted he wasn’t really a big Star Trek fan when making the 2009 reboot and said he was more of a Star Wars fan where he liked seeing more action. Snyder sounds like the same type of guy from that standpoint.

Preach! Don't get me started on angsty superman. He supposed to be a guy who was raised on a farm. He may be the most powerful superhero. But he had the most stable and normal life compared to others. Helping people because he just thinks that's the right thing to do. Not because he has this curse of duty.
God Henry's pretty face was wasted on that version of the character.

I loved the counterargument that "Of course the Superman in Man of Steel isn't your Superman. He's just learning. You're just impatient! Just wait until he turns into 'your' Superman." And then BvS comes in like "lol nope". And then Zack Snyder's Justice League is the final nail in the coffin. Dude is 1 dead Lois Lane away from Zodding the whole world for no raisin.
I guess I wouldn't be so miffed over the years if countries like Japan didn't get Superman more than we (the States) do. They unironically have Superman pastiches that are more Superman than Superman is! And people love them!

This is literally the opening line: "There was a time above, a time before. There were perfect things. Diamond absolutes. But things fall. Things on earth. And what falls is fallen. In the dream, it took me to the light. A beautiful lie"

Martha makes sense. It's just silly and hard not to find silly, when it's the follow up to a very very schlocky fight with only one moment I like (Bruce punching Clark, with each punch becoming less effective as the gas wears off). So schlocky fight, followed by an unexpected, fanfiction level justification for the fight to stop. If the genesis of that fight wasn't Clark NOT telling Bruce the situation in the numerous times he could have while there's "NO TIME", maybe it could've been better.

  • @MCLegoboy

Watched the Ultimate Edition between Man of Steel and the Snydercut, and it was even better than I remembered. That doesn't mean it's great, but I would say that it's good and far better than the theatrical version or watching it in a vacuum. I believe that these characters all have the motivations they would have, however, in the way they act, they're all wrong, especially Lex Luthor. Pitting Batman against Superman feels like a very Lex thing to do, but his plans seem kind of flimsy, especially in getting Superman to go fight Batman when he could probably just listen for Martha and find her before ever needing Batman's help to do so. I noticed in the movie though that Alfred says that Bruce has changed in the last two years, so while grim and gritty, it sounds like he has gone off the deep end with Luthor's anonymous puppeteering with notes and letters that make him not only hate Superman, but even the common criminal. I imagine that he still definitely killed people, especially after Robin died, but not quite so easily as he does in this movie. I also don't really mind Superman even questioning if he should be the hero he is because despite the people he saves being grateful, the political powers and their influence on half the population begins to make him see himself as the enemy. Every good thing he does has repercussions he does not intend to happen, it's actually a decent moral quandary for a character that is physically unstoppable.
But I guess its really the combinations of all these things into one movie that shows to be problematic. There's just too many ideas that work more for a three hour movie, but are cut for the theatrical version, and then you also have the other problem of there being so many ideas, and not all of them being great, that still make it into the movie that really don't need to be there. I love Wonder Woman, but aside from showing up for the fight against Doomsday, what is her purpose in this movie? To set everything else up because we're just two movies in and the next one is Wonder Woman, and then it's Justice League, there isn't time to give everyone proper introductory films, we just gotta cram them all in here. As part of the greater narrative, I suppose it works, but she's just kind of here, and honestly, had she just shown up for the fight, I don't think we'd really be missing anything.
So yeah, BvS, good, not great, but not bad, depending on the version you watch.

If the central plot revolves around Batman plotting to murder someone then you can't call it a Batman film. That's just not Batman. Now there is a way this could be written better if you say Batman doesn't consider Superman human and thus doesn't see an issue with murdering him and he realises his mistake when he learns Clark has a family, a mother, a fiancé, and he see's Clark's humanity. There are hints of this in the movie but I'm more inclined to believe they're accidental rather than planned.

Superman says he’s not human as a way to force Batman to stop fighting him and deal with what was going on. Holy crap, the ultimate plan revealed is insane in that third act by the villain by the way.

i hate zack snyder's superman, he doesn't even feel like superman. where's his sense of boyscout charm? his love and hope? every single movie superman is in, zack snyder manages to make him look "evil" or morally grey. and the snyder cut just straight up once again teases evil superman in the post credit scene. at this point, superman has been a bad guy in the movies more time than he's been a good guy. what a joke. it's like snyder hates superman and uses batman as a self insert.
not to mention batman's a murderer now, which makes him a total hypocrite in terms of the criminals he apprehends but also in the way he views superman. lex isn't lex. like the movie is just bad.

Affleck would have only gotten one solo movie with his death in a future Justice League movie where Joe Manganiello has discussed it at length. The movie itself was just a MESS to me... The characters were way too OOC... They tried to force to much stuff into the same film... It was just nahh..,.. And doomsday?.. I do enjoy the movie but I enjoyed the first suicide squad and the josstice cut though not as much as the snydercut.
Also the main fight was so short..
The casting was amazing for the snyderverse, Jeremy Irons nailed it. @Sal
Snyder doesn't care about Clark Kent @Dylan, bing.. so right.
And yes Dylan absolutely, Injustice only works if you establish the true Justice League as a solid foundation.
The ultimate cut explains the Luther set up with superman better and proves the woman lied in court, it also added the scene where superman actually explains himself instead of just flying off which makes him look guilty, that's all I remember.
Takes it from a D to a C grade movie.

BVS movie is a perfect film. And this martha argument enrage me. Superman tried to explain to batman but all bruce could see was red. When we started the film bruce was already on warpath with no room for compromise. So when superman gets hit multiple times because of booby traps he tries to move him somewhere else to explain. And we end up with the fight we get.

    • @DanV900

If you think BVS is perfect, you need to watch more movies since it’s fine to like it a lot, but perfect? Absolutely not. The Martha thing is awful when Batman has been fighting for 20 years. This isn’t a young Batman who possibly might get phased by that.

This is same issue batman has gone through in bvs. Since the death of robin hes become more cruel and less willing to make changes.

@@2nd_Variable His Robin wielded a halberd which we know from set photos and weapons of BVS magazines where that’s a very vicious weapon designed to maim and kill. Snyder said the Robin killed was years ago in universe and it was Dick Grayson. I didn’t say anything about his demeanor with being grumpy where the Batman Beyond version is not the same guy. The length of time he has been fighting matters where it’s unrealistic that after 20 years, someone saying Martha triggers him that much. Batman was already killing, but branding was a step up. It’s nonsensical for him to freak out that much.

    • @2nd_Variable

@@DanV900 lmao so you think robin staff is safer? I think thats ridiculous, there are tons of heroes that use weapons that should kill but instead use it to wound. Batman have been indirect killing by branding criminals on purpose since robins death. He didnt really physically cross the line until he decided that superman was too dangerous to live. He wasn't getting triggered by the name martha but the sentence. "You're letting him kill martha" like i said earlier bruce was like a bull that saw red. Charging towards battle breaking his rule and killing the batman. But as soon as he heard clark say that it was like he woke up from a nightmare. Then he finds out that monster he was going to kill was someone son. He saw clark in a new light and realize he was the monster.

    • @DanV900
      @DanV900 2 роки тому

@@2nd_Variable So you don’t know what a halberd is and couldn’t be bothered to Google it, huh? A staff is significantly safer than a halberd. A halberd literally has a blade on it where there is the point on top designed to stab. Robin would have been constantly slicing people so honestly he was a killer in this universe. As a duo, they would have been slicing and dicing while killing left and right. This wasn’t just causing minor wounds and it would have been hard not to kill people with it. It’s from the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Tech Manual by the way with Robin’s halberd. People tried to justify it on Reddit where this link has a picture of that page which was ridiculous such as saying it was Jason Todd, but Snyder said the dead Robin was Dick Grayson who would never wield a weapon like that.
Of course later Titans which is an atrocious show also had Batman as a killer and made Robin brutal, but Robin himself wouldn’t kill. Yes, the Martha scene wasn’t subtle and a young Batman freaking out would be easier to justify, not a veteran of 20 years. You trying to explain what happened when the movie was as direct as possible and showed flashbacks as if the audience was too dumb to figure out was going on and remember the beginning of the movie drove that point home. It’s not a big mystery. This Batman was already a killer and the big change was branding. Robin also would have killed with the halberd. That’s just common sense with the way Snyder uses characters. www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinematic/comments/4ux7s5/an_explanation_for_robins_seemingly_deadly_weapon/?
