    When you clean the EGR , don't put any heat grease around pin because it cause some resistance which makes the waring light to come back on dash,
    actually you want to clean and remove any grease by use spray cleaner like DW40 so lower resistance on spring to minimum and check the outcome !!!

    What is the foam piece over your fuel injectors?

      It helps with keeping this area clean, it is injection form btw, they inject some sort of expanding foam i guess after assembly to fill all the gaps and water or dust won't get in there, maybe also it helps with the sound deadening.
      It really does the job, it is spotless under there.

    thank you for this tutorial, just i have one question it's an obligation to reset the program of egr valve after replacing it or there is no need or there is another why like removing battery cable

      Hello Karim, first of all, full disclosure... Cleaning the EGR fixed the issue temporary, after that the issue happened again. I went to BMW and the EGR cooler is a recall item, they replaced it free of charge. ( Will let you know if this fix is permanent)
      Second part.... Yes resetting the adaptations is necessary and here is why.... Normally the adaptations purpose is to compensate the physical value deviation due to components degradation...for example The valve allows 10cm³/sec when i apply 3.5volts... due to congestion and motor degradation the 10cm³ changes and the value the valve opens at 3.5volts changes. ... Yes the engine software strategy tries to measure and estimate the physical value using different algorithms and cross reference them to figure out the deviation and calculate the adaptations values.... however it usually works in one direction.. that being the direction of degrading components, the software can not assume that the readings are getting better because something is getting cleaner over time or something is getting healthier the more it ages. The software might adapt but it will adapt in a wrong way.... This is actually a nice idea for a video but i have to think how to make it visual and interesting. Thanks Karim again.       Hello, unfortunately the error came back, the consumption was very good but the error came back and there was again some power cuts and hesitation. I bought a new EGR valve, from Wahler and again reset the adaptations, and everything is now back to normal, very smooth running.

    Selam Khaled,
    my N57-engine with 245hp shows me the check-engine light with the Error Code 257E00. Do you think cleaning the EGR-Valve will fix the problem. Because the Error code locks more like a electronic error than a mechanical error. Also our glow plug und glow plug controls unit shows some errors even after replacing all 6 glow plugs and the controls unit. I already invest 600€... Its so depressing when you put money in and the mechanic gives you a not fixed car back.

      Hello Daw, yes, ideally when replacing the EGR for 530d F10 also (great car btw) the adaptations have to be reset, (EGR, MAF, and swirl flaps adaptations are linked together) so you have to run the procedure.... However if you ignore it, it will still function correctly, it will just take more time to adapt.

    Hello! I have the exact engine (N47D20C) , and i am trying to take out the alternator, but without succes. I removed the intake manifold, i have removed the belt, i took out those 2 bolts that keep the alternator in place, but when i try to take it out, it cannot be taken because it smash in to the EGR. What is the procedure to take out the alternator? Please, i need it!

      Hello John, I actually connected it, maybe didn't film it... But i have news for you... The issue eventually came back, then i replaced the valve,.. and the issue went away for a year... Then it came back heavily.... I went to BMW to ask about it and they said that the EGR cooler has a known issue, and it is a recall item. Please if you have the same issue also check with them. They are going to replace it for you.

    I followed your steps to clean the egr, but I did not do the resetting bit. The actuating arm would get slightly stuck when pushed to open the valve, but seemed to get better before putting back in. After driving for a while, 2 erros showed up 255C00 and 290900. Is it because I did not reset it or is it because the valve was getting slightly stuck open?
    I also have a question about my dpf (main reason to be cleaning egr), so I tried go regenerate it from 54.99g of soot, but it would reach 45.99 and stop there. The average exhaust temp was about 450-500. Eventually it got to 45.80g when exhaust temperature increased to about 550°C, but it was hard to maintain that temperature (speed limit) and soot levels returned quickly to 45.99g. I used a dpf cleaner aditive in full tank, but not sure if it helped. Whats your advice on this one? All the requirements for a regenerations were met. Coolant, fuel, exhaust temp and no fault codes.

      @@MrAleksandarJanevski I removed thr egr and cleaned the actuating arm with wd40 and then put high temperature grease, seemed to be working. Have not driven the car since until finding a solution for the dpf.

      Salam Khalid, the program is ista, it is usually only available for dealer and big workshops, but you can get some download links on forums it is full of info on service procedures, torque specs, general knowledge... If you have the chance to get it, do it.

    have n47 2.0 with 4CAE error (gas recirculation controller, poziționare sensor, signal, and i cant delete it. I delete it and appears instantly. After aprox 100 km shows 4501 and check engine light comes in.
    I cleaned egr( egr is clasic with vacuum and coller), I changed litle presure hoses, and 4cae is always there even with engine off( contact on ) .
    Its this actuator from video the problem?..

      Hello, I have to do some research before I answer you, the failure that I had was 255B00. But of course it can trigger more errors. I have the workshop manual for this engine, I will check it and come back to you.

      @@ssaed9333 I suspect the diaphragm might be leaking and the vacuum hose doesn't open it correctly, it is possible to diagnose by opening the valve and blocking the port (to which the hose is connected) the valve should remain open if really no leaks in the diaphragm., I wish you luck.

    is the bleeding procedure necessary?? only reason i ask i think everything looks really straight forward other than that. what is this process doing also?

      The hose for the EGR cooler is very low in the engine and can potentially drain more than 2 liters of coolant, and ofcourse you need to make sure when you add coolant there is no air in the circuit. But this has nothing to do with the EGR operation, only the proper way to bleed out air after opening the cooling circuit.

      Honestly cleaning didn't work and i end up buying a new one, I got one from a local auto parts dealer in ULM (my city) it costed 180€ but it was very very bad it triggered 4 errors internally , even check engine went on, i had to return it and put the old one back... After that i bought a whaler branded egr valve, you can see it in my other video also, but i got it from amazon.de very simple and even cheaper 137€ i have it now for more than 15000 km and it works perfectly, all the errors gone, and the engine is as smooth as silk, the consumption is even better. If you want any more details let me know, but please have a look at the other video as it shows a better cleaning technique.

      @@khaledhelal6688 how many screws these it have on EGR valve? I can see there is two but very default to open, it needs T30 but it won’t get in, so I need to buy different tools which is temperproof T30

    Why did you bleed the system? And is it okay after replacing with new to NOT set any adaptation? Just plug and play?

      Hello there, First bleeding the system is moderately important as the coolant lines are detached during assembly, it can introduce air into the system, even a small air bubble can cause steam to blow the system and cause overheating, better be safe than sorry.
      Second point: resetting the adaptation, this is a complicated answer.... The engine ECU will eventually learn how to control the new valve, and will adapt the control parameters according, but it will take a very long time to reach a correction value.
      Because the significance of readings from the last few kilometers you drove with the new valve is less significance of the ...10,000 kms you drove with the bad one.
      The short answer is yes, you can ignore resetting the adaptations, but you will have to expect a non-ideal performance for some time, before the ECU realizes that the new readings are coherent and changes the control parameters for them.

      @@yordankaradzhov7541 Well, in case you have a similar engine (n47) Diesel, the instructions says "the stream of coolant should be bubble free and flowing for one minute" then close the expansion tank and take the car for a spin, until it reaches operating temperature.
      After that let it cool down completely, then if the coolant level needs adjustment adjust it.
      So if you can not see air coming out, wait a minute then close the expansion tank and take off.😉
      If you have a petrol engine, it probably has an electric pump, the instructions are "let the pump run for 10 minutes (engine off) and then bring it to temp.

      @Carlos Miguel Monteiro Hello Carlos, usually and specially for diesel engines the egr and swirl flaps adaptations are linked together also the MAF parameters are linked to them.
      However, if you have the dpf already masked in the software, that is good, but.. the egr will need a different mask.
      As you already saw in the video the valve position is normally closed, i suggest you remove the harness socket to validate that your custom software has the egr also masked or not. If not It will trigger check engine probably in the second driving cycle. But you will notice much better consumption and performance.

    Great video, I've pulled my egr valve out a few times now to clean but cleaned it in situ , with the 2 hoses connected, after needing to do this more often now I decided to order a new egr which should be delivered this week, my question is , did those 2 hoses literally just come off without doing anything to the clips? It looks like you just pushed them off , I've not seen these crimped clips before tbh and wasn't sure how remove them , which is why I cleaned the egr still connected to them 🤣

      Hello steve, i had to cut the clamps in order to pull the hoses, but when i applied silicone grease to it , it slipped as you saw more easily then i had to tighten the clamps more.... I have also additional news

      The problem happened again and this time to took out the entire cooler,cleaned it ... still existed...then BMW changed it because it was a recall item

      Of course i did, I did not film both because one of them was too tight and i had to use regular hose clamps with screw not the crimping kind, it was kinda embarrassing, :)

    The EGR valves never come back clean, the residues go everywhere even in places where cleaning does not arrive. If you don't have the money to maintain an efficient car, walk!
