When using CarPlay, you can swipe up from the bottom to bring up the aircon controls. If you have everything side loaded, then you don’t need to use AA. However, it looks like they need to stop AA from taking over the screen completely so that you can still use the Notification Shade, or Aircon controls. The point of using AA or CarPlay is for Messages and Phonebook controls. I prefer Apple Maps, and have access to Apple Podcasts.
I'm wondering what the advantage of using Android Auto (or even Apple Carplay) over the car's existing builtin entertainment/maps system? Both allow for Google Maps/Waze navigation, Spotify, etc. don't they? And like you said unless you're phone is on charge in the car it will only drain the battery anyway.
The main benefit of those systems is that cars last *way* longer than phones. In ten years, the car's system is going to be very dated but you'll still be able to link a modern phone to it.
@@ZurOhki1the car systrm will get ota. the only thing it may fall behind is the chips which can be replaced. byd already offer upgrades in china for reasonable prices. besides, what do u need a faster chip for? you are gonna use the nav and audio/video. a chip that works today will work years from now for those functions.
This is my first time using AA and I am not sure that it is so great. I don't want to be sharing my navigation screen with Spotify is there a way around this. As someone else said if you sideload the apps you want, then you don't need Android Auto. I think as Chris says he doesn't want the phone to be drained while using Android Auto, I think that is easily overcome by having your phone wirelessly charge or through the USB so I don't see that being much of an issue. As far as talking to the assistant to get things done I am a fan, at least you don't have to take your eyes off the road. I remember when the main input to your computer was all keyboard driven in the good old DOS days, then came the mouse in the late eighties with the introduction of Microsoft Windows. Now it's voice actuated commands. I suppose the next thing will be the neural link.
Thanks so much for this info. I am soooo disappointed with Android Auto. I thought I’d be able to get some apps from my phone into the tablet like Outlook and BOM. Any ideas how I can do that without connecting a PC? Thanks again. Great info.
Thanks for this Chris, I'm with you on this and have had your experience re getting used to the car tablet and not using voice control much at all. I was very underwhelmed by AA when I tried it. Like another commentator I have a VPN on my phone which prevents AA connecting unless I pause the VPN which is a bit of a muck around when I just want to get in and drive. The apps via AA are pretty limited also so at this stage I can't see the value in it.
I absolutely agree. I hate it and have disabled it. I have an always on VPN on my phone too so I can't even use android auto without purposely pausing it for only up to 1 hour. STUPID!
Once again, this shows that using the system on the car is much better than android auto, which is for cars that provide not much more than a screen. if u have a ipad already why do you want to project your iphone to it instead of using the ipad directly?

Just say hey byd and the Airton controls become visible

Ive disabled it. Waiting for the next update for a fix.
Waze is useable via AA; as an alternative to Google Maps.
Does anyone know how to stop AA automatically launching on start? I'd like a chance to change the AC settings, then manually trigger AA wireless
Connect android auto go to settings then go to start up mode.
Since, aircon, lights and other things don’t work on android auto….does at least the Hi BYD work ?
Exit android auto or adjust AC controls. I prefer to press the mic on the steering wheel that way it doesn't screw up too much.

Yes, you need to side load the apps using App Stores called Gbox or Aurora. Search for videos to explain more.
What clips for the vent holder did you buy so it can clip onto the Atto’s large vent discs?
Baseus is the middle one Ali express for the other ones which are no brand.
@@Carnormous Thanks! Unfortunately I didn’t have a good exp using Baseus stuff. Their charging mount I bought didn’t charge just after a month.
1:24 Spotify
I dont use spotify. What audio streaming apps can I use then?
You have to sideload other apps you need to be IT savvy to do this. It's a pain.
talk to the car. most of the things can be done with voice command.
Hi about Android Auto...is it wireless and if so .. how did you configure it... My works only with a usb cancel.
Yes it's wireless. Use bluetooth pairing.

@@bertiloleandersson927 Delete your bluetooth connection from your phone then pair again.
Hit "mode" on the steering wheel...

… maybe BYD hates you?

I agree totally!
