However you always make it easy to understand and follow along. I didn't know jack about fuel injectors before other than they cost me $500/more when they fail (on a 2013 C-Max TWICE!). My father-in-law shared a funny story where a few years ago he had a newly qualified mechanic working on his car which has a carby. He asked the mechanic to increase the idle speed... and the mechanic shrugged as he does not know how to do this. I guess he is trained on all the modern engines but not on the fundamental designs of a classic engine.

I had a 79 Silverado with a 350 and you could climb into the engine compartment if you had to to get to something. Very basic and literally could fix anything on it myself for cheap. I installed an intake and tune the AFM to take the most advantage of the hardware and to make sure fuel trims are within 1%. I am not sure how much this can cut the life of an engine but sure the Civic is amazing to drive now. I know you own the celica,matrix and the Lexus. Would love for you to try a civic tuneD with HONDATA.

    II have been a fan of Scotty for a long while. Very helpful information. I especially enjoy the added graphics in the windows to accent Scotty's commentary. Which is why I was surprised when he said the ignition of the fuel/air mixture causes an explosion. I'm sure he knows that explosions in the combustion chamber causes knocking and can wreck engines. The ignition of the mixture properly burns it and causes a rapid increase in pressure and temperature which pushes the piston away from the head. I wish to reiterate how much I enjoy Scotty's videos. Thanks

    • @briantaylor9701
      @briantaylor9701 2 роки тому

      It sounds like you just described an explosion, lol. Explosion in the combustion chamber, during the combustion stroke, is the goal. Bad fuel, with not enough octane rating, exploding while a valve is still open (not during the recognized combustion stroke) causes the engine knock that will ruin the motor if the driver doesn't fix the problem causing it. Often, but not always, shelling out the extra ten to twenty cents per gallon for 89 or 91 octane gas instead of the cheapest, 87 octane fuel, solves the problem.

    These videos always make the back in the day cars seem simple and cheap to operate. Back then ( say around late 60's) you tuned up your car every year, new spark plugs and new points. About $29 dollars which today is $240.00. Oil changes were every 3 months or 3000 miles and you would also get a lube job on your shocks, another $130 in today's dollars. Tires lasted about 20,000 miles at best. This was before radials were invented so another $100 for four or $825 in today dollars. Gas always seemed cheap, say 50 cents a gallon but that is over $4 today.

      Where in Bulgaria? Bulgaria is such a beautiful country.
      Would love to visit places like Plovdiv, the capital in Sofia as well
      as Stara Zagora and then off to the coast around Varna.
      I have even entertained the idea of moving to Bulgaria.

    This was really well done. Simple and easy to understand. I assume you werent the one who did the graphics on the carb about the two screws that are adjusted? Obviously, those are not the mixture screws but simply the screws holding the butterfly plate on.

    It helps a lot if you have experience of tuning old carburettors by ear and feel and tuning ignition with lamp so when you first time open the files downloaded from your later model car you already know what you are doing, and also wideband o2 meter helps you to get even better results and you don’t have to trust your old ear&feel method anymore 😃
