Used the Hero 8's for a while for motovlogging, used the 9's for a short period of time and had NOTHING but problems with them. Been using the 11's since last year and haven't had problems. I've looked at the Action 4 and Insta360's but haven't had a good reason to switch.
Im new to this but from what im understanding it looks like gorpo is best for helmet pov video and insta360 is good for bike mount 360view video. Idk why people make it a vs when each has its best use case.
I've been using the trusty Sony FDR-X3000 for years... 4K 30, and ZERO issues. None. I hear so many people complaining about the GoPro in terms of reliability... you need to be able to trust your gear, and if you can't then move (it) on. As for paying more for the app? Yeah nah. Great honest vid... 👍
Maybe a little unfair to say the new sensor is unusable for vertical shots. It's hardly any trouble to make a 9:16 frame in your editing software, then just adjust your composition and export, don't really see the problem because why would you edit in GoPro's own software anyway?
I switched from DJI action to a GoPro 10 because with the media mod doing vlogs and connecting a mic was easy and the sound quality was way better. The DJI with a mic pugged in was just rubbish, sound levels were always way too high, and I don’t have the time when riding to keep messing with an external recorder. Any idea if the new DJI is better with mics plugged directly into it? I was racing at the weekend and lost my Hero 10 so am either just gonna get another 10 but considering the 11, and a media mod as I lost that as well! I like the media mic and how you can switch it, also easy to set up with a powerbank so you can ride all day without changing batts - man alive, having to take the media mod off to change batteries is just a ball ache. Thanks Rob.
@@mehow151 just bought an 11 because I lost the 10, but if another brand would look at the latest Dji, like there magnetic system - audio is key for me tho - great pictures with bad audio are useless, average pics with great audio is fine
I'm tired of GoPro. Last year I was doing the Twisty Butt ride here in Japan and I tested all my GoPro cameras for several weeks prior to make sure they would work the way I had them configured and placed on the bike. Had no issues, the morning of the ride and not a single one of the 4 GoPro's worked. Luckily I have an Innovv K5 installed on my bike and I was at least able to capture the ride with it. I'm in the process of switching to Insta360 cameras, they seem much more reliable and better quality.
That’s brilliant!! I’ve just bought a hero 11 with accessories then watched this video afterwards. If they’re so unreliable then why do so many people still use them? And why are they still selling?
Why don't just drag the 8:7 files directly into FCPX and transform them in there, much easier than using gopro's apps, and I've been using gopros' from hero 3 all the way up to 9 without an issue. I still think the quality of the gopro is better than the competition. Just my opinion.
Of course I tried this, but the FOV needs to be adjusted too so that you can get the widest view when in 9:16. Otherwise you’ll be staring at the speedo.
Still using the GoPro Hero 8 and so far have had very few issues with it, getting it to record good sound has been a journey but I think I'm there now. Nothing since the 8 has made me want to upgrade, and if I was buying another GoPro I would probably buy a used Hero 7. I've heard of too many people having problems with Hero 9 upwards, so I'll be sticking with what I know works.
Rode Wireless Go II mics record directly to onboard storage and can be clipped almost anywhere or use with a wired lav. Can choose to sync up in post or wire it to your camera.
I have so many friends that have had issues with GoPro that I bought a DJI Action 2 as a helmet camera for all my riding. It's small & light and will run at 1080p 30 fps until the battery is flat, which is perfect for what I'm using the camera for. Once the reviews came in for the Action 3, showing that DJI have addressed the overheating issues, I snapped one up as well. Now I just have to convince myself that I need an Insta360 as well.
Insta 360 is a good complement to the DJI / Go Pro. While the latter records where you point your helmet to, the 360 can provide all round footage. GoPro have had so many issues with the 11 freezing because they didn't upgrade the processor in the 11. The GoPro also gets the black screen of death and it overheats. The one RS is definitely way better in my opinion. Lots of people have complained about the hero 11.
Over two years I’ve only had one instance of ss card error resulting in the loss of footage on my GoPro hero 8. So unless it starts playing up I’ll use it for as long as I can.

Sucks, I currently use a hero 5 and have for the past 4 years and currently haven't had any issues with currupt files or anything. Some features have improved but the price just doesn't justify the small changes, especially with the small technical difficulties you've had on your newer gopros. Also my gopro wasn't even brand new when I bought it lol.
Simply not right. RealSteady can be purchased, if u feel the need of even more stabilisation than Camera does on its own. GoPro Player is Free and export works.
Have the GP 10 and hate the battery life! I purchased a Media Mod and had the typical not connected/ connected media mod issues. They warrantied it out and are shipping me a new one. Lets hope this next one is better. Like you, I really want to like GoPro but they sure don't make it easy. How do you like the DJI camera? I may jump ship...
I bought the GoPro 10 just before releasing the 11 to record my riding journeys, but I greatly regret it. Not only the camera, I bought a bunch of other accessories with it, which were also not so cheap. And after investing over €1000, I realized, it is just too bad for the price.
Thanks for your review and opinion on the GoPro Hero 11, Rob! Excellent quality on your footage and what you post to the community! I'm at GoPro Hero 10 and it seems by your review that the Hero 11 is not a requirement for my use yet. Though, I will of course get a replacement if one of my current GoPros break. The ability to remote control more than one GoPro camera and have synchronized start/stop recording of the camera/cameras in use with a single remote controller is a winner. By web search at today's date (February 13, 2023) I can't see that the closest competition in DJI Osmo Action 3 has this feature yet. Until DJI enables this, I'm with GoPro. The battery discharge problem is present at Hero 10 when batteries sit in the camera and is noticable within a weeks time. By your comment, I take it that the situation is the same with the Hero 11. Batteries left in the Hero 10 over longer periods of time will fully discharge. Due to this, I store my batteries out of the Hero 10's, and even with batteries just sitting on the shelf I see discharge over time. As we know, the need for more batteries is present as the Hero 10 and obviously Hero 11 consumes energy at high res, high shutter rate shooting. With no battery in the Hero 10 over time, the camera time and date needs synchronisation when the Hero 10 is powered back up again. Of course, this is quite swiftly done with a Hero 10 that is paired to a GoPro Quik Android app. But still has to be done if one wants correct time stamps on footage and images. Quite interesting for a 2021 / 2022 design. I'd like to see this improve significantly by GoPro themselves or at least be challenged and done better by DJI.
I have a graveyard og Gopros. Each with their bug I can't love with, mostly audio (non-existent on a brand new 8 that Gopro claimed there was nothing wrong with. ) I'm currently using a 9 that has typical reliability issues and some audio issues but that seems to have fixed itself since I quit using the media mod. It also helps with swapping out batteries when it freezes up. I recently bought a DJI action 3, it does have the focus issue I see talked about but I'm hoping that someone figures it out because it's the most reliable action camera I've ever owned. I am going to buy an insta360.
@Moto Feelz It seems like it's on the outer edge of the frame and it's random, but it is noticeable. I've seen lots of videos complaining about it. I don't notice it if the camera doesn't move. I'm going to keep studying the issue because it's a reliable camera.
go pro sucks! i have the 7 and 8 and they ALWAYS freeze! new batteries, new SD cards, updated firmware blah blah nope! shoot a whole day get home and it's all audio with a frozen screen. go pro offers NO help other than buy a new one ! nope does the osmo action have a 3.5 mic jack to motovlog ? and is the mount system similar ? great video mate

Great review, so glad I went with Insta360 now. That bait and switch crap with "Oh, you want to export that, just purchase this ..." that did it for me at that point. Screw GoPro.
Here goes another person with an issue with a GoPro. It definitely does stop recording when it wants or the battery needs to be removed and put back in to power on. I literally just plugged mine in to charge it just to realize it still has charge 😑
I wish I have watched your videos earlier before buying a GoPro 10. the battery is imo really bad... The app also never works for me, neither on desktop nor on mobile should have bought a insta360
If they would just add Bluetooth audio. That and I don’t need nonsensical amounts of resolution when it can’t even run without overheating. Unfortunately, GoPro has fallen victim to these reviews that demand useless for uploading to UA-cam resolution. I’ll take regular HD with Bluetooth audio, stabilized video, no overheating, lower price instead of constant email coupons with 50%+ off due to low sales, smaller form but still have touch screens. As I said, it is pointless to have 8 or 4K when it won’t run.
@@mehow151 I’m a scuba dive instructor and freediver which is why the freezing is absolutely not acceptable. You can’t take the battery out and replace it underwater. Also the battery life with the GoPro 10 black is too weak, it’s ridiculously short. I’m really disappointed with the GoPro 10. I used it the other day without housing while swimming in a river. The touchscreen changed the mode constantly to timelapse by itself. Lost a shot where a dragonfly landet on my finger 🤬 After this season here in Thailand ends, I will look into the DJI and the insta360 cameras.
I went to the zoo with my daughter for the first time, and the stupid GoPro failed, you don’t have to be professional to expect a realiable camera. Hello, I have the insta 360 x3 would like to do a motovlog but can't find any suitable helmet accessories and microphone for the camera, can someone possibly help me there I really don't know what to do anymore :/
I've had failures with GoPro Hero 10 almost every time I use it. The camera locks up and I have to disassemble and pull the battery to recover. As a hobby user I love the videos I do get, when I get them. Nevertheless, sitting on my bike on the side of the road disassembling a camera to get it working again is unsafe as well as inconvenient. So no, wouldn't buy it again. Here in the US, other professionals such as Motorcycle Travel Channel have also abandoned GoPro in frustration (ua-cam.com/video/UbXbrnUCwwE/v-deo.html). Hopefully the company can get back on track. Till then seems like Insta360 is the best bet.
Sounds like Netflix and GoPro business models are going to ruin their customer base. They think they have brand loyalty and don't realize their competitors are passing them up.
I mean.. isn't is literally just cropping the video? why not just do that in any other editing software? or am I missing something. Still sucks though $99 yikes
When you crop to 9:16 you need to change the FOV to compensate, otherwise you’ll be staring at a speedo. You can only do that with the app that you need to pay for
100 bucks for the software?! GoPro just keep digging themselves into a bigger hole. Maybe they don’t realize that there are other action cams out there now. Maybe instead of upgrading my Hero 8, I’ll upgrade the One X2 with an X3.
GoPros have a great vedio quality, but it isn't as good of a package itself. The audio adaptor should be in the camera, why do they want us to spend more for that thing😵. The batteries die really fast and are un reliable. Also the gliches for that much of a price, they need to work on their cameras man🤦
I lost all faith in GoPro a few weeks ago. I had a 7 but a new one. Still under warranty and had used it for a couple hours at best. I filmed a buddies 4 year old in a baby pool and it flooded. Called GoPro from Colombia, I guess to India, and they said since it ever worked it wasn’t covered. I even had the cage on it that can’t be put on unless the doors are closed. Sucks when a waterproof camera is not actually guaranteed or be waterproof. Shitty company. Definitely lost a customer.

Insta360 x3 image quality sucks. How can you stand it? I actually traded my X3 for the GoPro 11. I couldnt be happier.
Hi there, is the Hero 7 for filming 4k 30fps 1/60 regarding the wobble-issue still the best in your opinion? I despair with my Hero 9...
I bought the GoPro 10 just before releasing the 11 to record my riding journeys, but I greatly regret it. Not only the camera, I bought a bunch of other accessories with it, which were also not so cheap. And after investing over €1000, I realized, it is just too bad for the price.
Hey, your videos are awesome! You got a new subscriber, also a Triumph fan and a T7 owner. Greeting from Argentina 🇦🇷!!
Nice work dude! I have a DJI osmo action 3 and, love it.
Yea, can say I’m a fan
I don't see the aftermarket policy either. It sucks!
Thank you for your great effort. I learned many things from you, your follower from Egypt
Best gopro was a 7 in my opinion! I’ll use few more year i guess!
I agree
dude themoment you told about the paid app, I subscribed
I have a graveyard og Gopros. Each with their bug I can't love with, mostly audio (non-existent on a brand new 8 that Gopro claimed there was nothing wrong with. ) I'm currently using a 9 that has typical reliability issues and some audio issues but that seems to have fixed itself since I quit using the media mod. It also helps with swapping out batteries when it freezes up.
I recently bought a DJI action 3, it does have the focus issue I see talked about but I'm hoping that someone figures it out because it's the most reliable action camera I've ever owned.
I am going to buy an insta360.
Yea I’m hearing ya, DJI have stepped up. Tell me more about the focus issue
@Moto Feelz It seems like it's on the outer edge of the frame and it's random, but it is noticeable. I've seen lots of videos complaining about it. I don't notice it if the camera doesn't move. I'm going to keep studying the issue because it's a reliable camera.
go pro sucks! i have the 7 and 8 and they ALWAYS freeze! new batteries, new SD cards, updated firmware blah blah nope! shoot a whole day get home and it's all audio with a frozen screen. go pro offers NO help other than buy a new one ! nope
does the osmo action have a 3.5 mic jack to motovlog ? and is the mount system similar ? great video mate
ANONYMOUS BIKER USA I’ve had the same problem with the 8 - video froze and I was left with only audio.
@@Hogdriver88 happens to me every time and i'm soooooo over it ! hours of filming wasted
so frustrating i'm looking at osmo 3 but i hear there are mic issues with Lav mic being too hot so you need the wireless, which is clean set up but it's also another $329 plus the camera itself never ends buddy lol
@@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA Seems like they all have their own issues. Kinda frustrating when spending this kind of money. Maybe I’ll just duct tape my 10 year old Canon 5DIII to my helmet LOL
@@Hogdriver88 probably be much easier !!!! lol go pro i'm just over ! i've lost soooooooooo many great videos bc of their unreliability
for the money it's a joke !!!!!
Gopro is going down, they suck ive got the 9 and 10 but most of the time i cant even be bothered mounting them as they just shut down for no reason, full battery, the 9 is better than the 10 for that, then the files are all mixed up when you upload them so i just give up
How good would they be if they just worked haha
Great review, so glad I went with Insta360 now. That bait and switch crap with "Oh, you want to export that, just purchase this ..." that did it for me at that point. Screw GoPro.
What a joke that you have to pay for the app, glad your still making these videos, and not camping 100% 👊🏻
Here goes another person with an issue with a GoPro. It definitely does stop recording when it wants or the battery needs to be removed and put back in to power on. I literally just plugged mine in to charge it just to realize it still has charge 😑
Just love my GoPro hero 7 black 😅 still can't see why would you need 8-9-10 or 11 🤣
great review tho!
GoPro’s business ethics have gone down the tubes over the last couple of years. Definitely a bummer…
I wish I have watched your videos earlier before buying a GoPro 10. the battery is imo really bad... The app also never works for me, neither on desktop nor on mobile
should have bought a insta360
If they would just add Bluetooth audio. That and I don’t need nonsensical amounts of resolution when it can’t even run without overheating. Unfortunately, GoPro has fallen victim to these reviews that demand useless for uploading to UA-cam resolution. I’ll take regular HD with Bluetooth audio, stabilized video, no overheating, lower price instead of constant email coupons with 50%+ off due to low sales, smaller form but still have touch screens. As I said, it is pointless to have 8 or 4K when it won’t run.
Ok 👌👍
I guess hero7 is the best for motovlog
Yes!
@@MotoFeelz thank you . U the best keep going .
yooo…miss the old school motovlog❤😂
I dropped one just last month where you been?
$100 extra to achieve basic export functionality?! They have to be joking!
GoPro ist getting really less and less of a viable option. I got the 10 black and it freezes on me regularly. Super annoying.
If You would buy another action cam instead of gopro 10 what would it be ? I'm going to buy one but don't know which one...
Lost a shot where a dragonfly landet on my finger 🤬
After this season here in Thailand ends, I will look into the DJI and the insta360 cameras.
I went to the zoo with my daughter for the first time, and the stupid GoPro failed, you don’t have to be professional to expect a realiable camera. I feel so bad for not buying x360, I contacted GoPro for a refund due to camera being unreliable but they holding on to the money like as if they know they company is about to tank.
Hello, I have the insta 360 x3 would like to do a motovlog but can't find any suitable helmet accessories and microphone for the camera, can someone possibly help me there I really don't know what to do anymore :/
Instamic, very tiny and with bluetooth. will connect to the insta 360 x3
i bought i bike whichcme with a gopro 11... I sell it immediately, i'm good with my gopo 8 :)
Gopro is crap. Unfortunately I have been using Gopro and the work flow is crap. Will be upgrading to the insta360 x3 soon and selling my Gopro stiff.
Красавчег. Спасибо, удачи.
Wouldn’t buy another GoPro if you paid me. When I replace my current one it shall be with a dji
I mean.. isn't is literally just cropping the video? why not just do that in any other editing software? or am I missing something. Still sucks though $99 yikes
When you crop to 9:16 you need to change the FOV to compensate, otherwise you’ll be staring at a speedo. You can only do that with the app that you need to pay for
@@MotoFeelz ah ok, got ya
100 bucks for the software?! GoPro just keep digging themselves into a bigger hole. Maybe they don’t realize that there are other action cams out there now. Maybe instead of upgrading my Hero 8, I’ll upgrade the One X2 with an X3.
GoPro is peace of $hit form all aspects. And Yes, I have it and use with a toothache, but more and more I'm sure next will be something else.
.Camera at Night Time Channel Movie in Year Wednesday May 3,2023.😐.
GoPros have a great vedio quality, but it isn't as good of a package itself. The audio adaptor should be in the camera, why do they want us to spend more for that thing😵. The batteries die really fast and are un reliable. Also the gliches for that much of a price, they need to work on their cameras man🤦
I have a hero 10 ,it's a piece of junk- Gopro has went to PROFIT over Product- , they're going to pay for it too- you watch. Great video my friend
@gopro
Definitely lost a customer.
one of the dozen reasons why I‘m gonna sell my GoPro, the App is absolutely bullshit
Yea I was in disbelief for a solid moment. I thought there was some kind of mistake
goPro is C.R.A.P!! used it once, rented for a trip and it was useless. battery drained out and worse, wasn't even so impressed with the output and damn recordings just too heavy
GoPro SUCKS! Why do people still use them!
