This is the first tutorial I’ve actually been able to sit though and not be bored. Just bought one today. Thanks for all the tips and tricks guys!!! Happy GoProing!!!! 💪🎉😊
I just purchased a GoPro Hero 11 Black camera. I watched and followed your directions “almost” to the letter. The results are incredible!! I’m not a You-tuber or have any intention of editing my videos like you do, but your recommendations are spot on for the camera settings. The quality of the videos are amazing. The mountain bike videos are fantastic. I ride in Duluth, MN where we have very gnarly, raw, rocky trails and the GoPro Hero 11 Black works great. The Duluth trails are only one of six trail centers in the world that are gold rated by IMBA. The need for a quality camera and having the correct settings is essential for creating great video. The stabilization feature and the Hyperview setting is wonderful. Thanks Ryan for your suggestions. I appreciate it.
Couple of tips with the wind mufflers. First thing to bear in mind is that they won't work that well for watersports. Buuuuuuut, for MTB and other sports where they will mostly stay dry, they work very well. Second tip is not to stick them onto the camera with the sticky adhesive. Instead I bought one of the GoPro silicone covers and I sewed the wind mufflers onto that so they won't fall off if they do get wet or covered in mud.
My friend's GoPro11 exploded on his head while he was playing with a ball. GoPro 10 and 11 cameras get very hot and may burn. Be careful this is a very dangerous video camera.
Spot on as usual! Thanks Ryan! One tutorial I'd like to see is how to break up the footage into clips, edit them, and get them uploaded to IG, and especially now with the new 11's cloud upload feature.
HERO11 Black has reworked exposure control that means it does a better job at avoiding blown out highlights. You might want to experiment without the old -0.5EV and see how you like the results.
Perfect tutorial! I agree with the previous comment about being able to sit through the whole video without getting bored. I bought a go pro 11 to start motovlogging and its nice to see a similar content creator go through the settings and explain each one clearly.
Some more detail on lenses: 8:7 is full sensor mode. The lenses are just cropping parts out of that sensor image and doing different things with it. Hyperview takes the full 8:7 image and dynamically stretches it to 16:9. Superview takes a 4:3 image crop of the 8:7 and dynamically stretches that to 16:9. Wide and linear just take progressively more aggressive crops out of the 8:7 image to cut down on fisheye. You can do all of this in post right now, and is the big selling point of the camera. It is also why shooting in narrow (and linear, for the most part) never makes sense. You can always crop in post, but you can't add missing footage back in. Thus, better to record the max image available to you and scale it down as needed. The app update will just do all this cropping/adjustment for you. This mostly will be beneficial for Hyperview and Superview lenses, as they are unique to the GoPro algorithm. So instead of having a Hyperview or Superview video you are stuck with, you can shoot 8:7 and have the ability to crop it into whatever you want OR swap to Hyperview/Superview. So basically recording all three at once. I like Hyperview for driving and stationary POV, but so far when using it while on foot the distortion is too much. Better to use 8x7 in those cases.
Well explained! Do you know if there is any more complexity to the super/hyper-view than just adding dynamic stretch in Premier/FCP? Like a centered Andy Effects classic stretch?
@@VernalFilm I just know it is elastic, so that you've got no distortion near the center but progressively more out towards the sides. as far as I know nobody has exactly replicated it.
Well I just watched all of your video. Not sure I've ever watched an entire set up video! It was great and I really appreciate it. I'm tuned in now (Never in 7 years and over 2k videos have I ever changed many of those settings) and looking forward to the sun coming out so I can go try. Thanks
Great video. I love my hero 11 and know a fair bit about the settings but I learnt a lot in your video that will def improve my future footage. All the best.
Thank you so much. I just got my 11 and used all of the tips on this video. Taking it the bike park tomorrow. so stoked to run it with the new Loam Ranger Pro Tune !!!
Just got the Hero 11 Creator Edition on sale at Best Buy yesterday and this video helped make my shots look a bit more 'pro' even though I'm a complete beginner who's never had a GoPro before. Filming the ducks at my local pond to practice before an off-roading convention in Flagstaff, AZ.
My first time ever to own a GoPro camera. I bought my from Costco. I got the GoPro Hero 11 Black. As a beginner I am learning a lot from this shared tutorial info of generous “the Loam Ranger”. Thank you 👍
Another pro tip for making sure you get the right camera angle is to film in 4:3 4K and then when you get into the editing software you can pick the part of the frame you want. Even if you get the "perfect" angle on your chest mount, it can still be wrong depending on how steep or flat your trail is. If you film 4:3 then you can adjust the angle in post.
Great Video, I have learnt more from this video than from the GP site. I am having some trouble while filming indoors, A lot of severe flickering from the indoor lighting any tips? Anti-flicker does not seem to make a difference.
Thanks for the info, cleaar and concise. My first Gopro arrived yesterday and I've tried it, which was awesome! I can see how yoour tips will help improve the recordings I make on my next outage so much appreciated
This is one of the best video’s out there on the internet about the GP 11!! In detail about all the settings, now I will go kill it with my GP11 that I just bought!! Thanks man
Thanks great I was confused before as only looking at Hero 10 instructions so different to my Hero 11 so now I can use it properly. Very clear and informative.
Just got a HERO 11 today. I just set all the setting to your recommendations. Going to give it the maiden voyage tomorrow outside with what's suppose to be a party cloudy day. I'll be filming my Doberman Pinschers while training. Thank You so much guys !!!!
Your tips are the best in the industry, I get the best footage using your settings. From my old Hero 4 to my newer 10 and just started experimenting with a new Hero 11 Mini. Never realized the thing on the side of the 10 was a "water mic" so now I need to cover that with a dead cat. Deadcats on the Mini will be a little harder as the one on top is really close to the micro display and the record button. I have so much footage, I just need to spend time editing. Which again, using your tutorial is the best, but just time consuming when done infrequently.
Thanks for this video.. Just upgraded from the hero 3 to the 11 and was a bit lost on what to set it to.. I've only used it once in the woods here in Australia and found the video over saturated.. Can't wait to try these settings.. Thanks again 👍👍
Extremely helpful. I actually broke that little piece but it snapped back on and I glued it back. Going to recommend your video to my friends and family. I plan on taking a trip to the Guadalupe Mountains during Easter. Can’t wait!
Everytime I heard “if you ask me…” I keyed up because that meant the good stuff was right behind it. Thanks for sharing this awesome info! You referenced a few times that you like to color grade and doctor it up in post….are there any settings mentioned that you’d avoid for those of us that either don’t or wont do any color correction in post?
Very useful video, thank you very much. This is my first GoPro, and it's the 11. One of the first things I did was to change the finger mount to one that also includes a quarter inch screw which makes it so easier to mount onto a mono pod or similar.
I would really appreciate the help here, what are the best settings for quail hunting, what view and settings are the best, I want the best out of it. I usually enter the field early in the morning before after sunrise. Thank u
A little note about formatting your cards. Before you start using your memory cards, do a hard format in your PC. The camera will not do a hard format and to get the cards fully prepared ,do a hard format in your PC then format the cards in Camera.
I'm using this video as a guide but I am using a DJI Action 5 Pro which has a built-in colour temperature sensor. Does this mean I can leave the white balance on auto since the camera is able to accurately measure the correct colour temp?
Thanks for this!! Just got my Gopro yesterday and I’m excited to try these settings. I live in Humboldt Ca. with lots of fog, redwood trees and grey days, so I’m thinking these settings will help big time! 💯
It was the color setting to flat that I've been tryin to figure out the whole season to sort out the high contrast when filming biking stuff, thanks for video 🤙🤘
Awesome video! Especially at the 19:40 mark for the reccomended settings that you described. Took a screenshot for later reference. Well done video overall. Thank you both👍
Once you change those settings, do the settings remain locked in each time you turn the camera off, then back on? Or, do you have to click something to lock in the settings?
This is the first tutorial I’ve actually been able to sit though and not be bored. Just bought one today. Thanks for all the tips and tricks guys!!! Happy GoProing!!!! 💪🎉😊
This is the best tutorial for Gopro11 where you actually explained every setting you changed! Thanks
You did GoPro'ers like me a huge favor by explaining all the settings really thoroughly. Thank you for those tip!

thanks for the tip i imagine this way you will keep the water that gets soaked up during rain away from the cam as well
Great tip, just done it and this actually works so well
My friend's GoPro11 exploded on his head while he was playing with a ball. GoPro 10 and 11 cameras get very hot and may burn.
Be careful this is a very dangerous video camera.
you sewed a dead cat to a silicone cover and had room for the foam cover?
This video is so helpful. I liked it as soon as you gave the tip to reformat sd cards to reduce the chance of corrupted files!
Spot on as usual! Thanks Ryan! One tutorial I'd like to see is how to break up the footage into clips, edit them, and get them uploaded to IG, and especially now with the new 11's cloud upload feature.
+1 !
+1
What new cloud upload feature? My Hero 11 has the same old cloud upload as my old Hero 6. Am I missing something?
Me as well
HERO11 Black has reworked exposure control that means it does a better job at avoiding blown out highlights. You might want to experiment without the old -0.5EV and see how you like the results.
EXCELLENT INSTRUCTIONS.EXPLAINED IN 1st CLASS.I HAVE USED 98 PERCENT OF YOUR PREFERENCES. THANK YOU. Malcolm
one of the best and most intuitive channel offering Gopro tutorials that I have ever watched! Thank you!

yup. it's winter and my ev comp is setup for summer, had to re watch this video again. thanks!

Thanks for the explanation but what about the distortion in wide angle modes. Can this be removed in post.
@@Laygtraveller Yes, using software. Davinci Resolve Studio has this feature for certain

So I can shoot in 8:7 and with the app (quik app?) I can swap between hyperview/superview etc?

Wow super video thank you very much brother ❤🎉
That was very informative, I rode today on Labour of Love with your settings, lets see how it worked
Just got my first GoPro ever. Thank you million times.
Great video. I love my hero 11 and know a fair bit about the settings but I learnt a lot in your video that will def improve my future footage. All the best.
Just ordered one. Excited for some moto/mtb footage this winter
A bulletproof video that saved me grief as a newbie 🎉🎉❤
Best video I’ve seen on GoPro so far! Awesome job!
Well done, thank you!
Thank you so much. I just got my 11 and used all of the tips on this video. Taking it the bike park tomorrow. so stoked to run it with the new Loam Ranger Pro Tune !!!
The last tip was really the best. Great video. Loved it.
Thank you so much for making my trip so great.
Great explanations of the different settings. Video made me feel less overwhelmed by all the choices. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this. As someone who's new to GoPro, this helped a lot! I won't be doing MTB with it, but cycling is definitely on the list.

Great video and this really helped. You guys are rockstars
Great tutorial. You really covered everything , even chest mount positioning.

This was super useful even for an 8
I just bought GoPro 11 and your video helps me a lot with the setting
Excellent guide, this helped me immensely when setting up my new Hero 11. Thank you!!!
The GoPro 11 can also now create files over 4GB in size which is great news !
Very true! I was pumped to see that the other day when I grabbed a file that was 9GB 🤟
Yes!! I still wish they would revamp their numbering system … have to resort them on my computer
@@JCBike32agreed !! GoPro file numbering is ridiculous! Have to sort by date on computer..
@@TheLoamRanger what’s wrong with using a 256 GB card?
I’ve got the mini as I wanted less to brake. Worth noting I managed to change all the setting described via the app pre ride. 👍🏻👍🏻 great vid. Thanks.
