I just got my first GoPro the GP-11. One mistake I made was thinking the firmware update it conducts when powering "on". I could not get through my first poking around the setting before it would literally power itself off. It did this several times so I chatted with GP CS. They instructed me to do a manual firmware update and they emailed me the instructions on how to do this on my own. After the manual update I have not had any more issues. Just a heads up for those who may run into the same issue. Great video btw!
Great video as always! I think to me, your tip of shooting more videos/photos and experimenting with the GoPro as much as you can is so spot on. The more you use it the better the results. Keep up the GREAT work.
I disagree on the 1st point. I've found myself cursing my unwillingness to record more after missing something I would have wanted recorded. Editing a couple more minutes is not that hard, specially if you're willing to watch the video at 3x speed or more. I do absolutely agree on every single other pont, though
Regarding the 1st point, I started doing it that way, trying to time it and make a good clip, but I would often miss things or not press record at all. Now I just record gigantic videos, then I edit them. It's not hard finding the interesting moments exactly because they are few, so you will usually remember where to look for.
Thank you very much for this video. It was most helpful. I am a beginner and guilty, guilty guilty. I have made all of these mistakes. I have had my GoPro for less than a year and have only shot a few things thus far. With the help of your tutorial videos, this year will be different. You have informed and, encouraged me. Also, you have rekindled my resolve and desire to produce quality videos that will benefit and encourage others as you have benefitted and encouraged me. Thanks, this was a great find!
Great video and points! I’ve actually been using my GoPro for action shots and then my camera for scenic/close up shots (just like you mentioned), and the two pair well together.
I just got my first go pro and this video will be helpful along with your settings video for the hero 11. I am going on a month long trip in a week and very excited to try out a lot of settings and actually have fun with it
get a pile of battery's the thing is a hog. I ran my 11 , my 7 black and my 7 silver a lot , the fastest one to go dead is the 11 (if it dont overheat first) running them off a USB cord fixes both of these problems
Totally agree with using the chesty over a head mount. I capture a lot of fishing shots and you don’t realise just how much you move your head until you watch a playback
Good points , the last is probably the best get out and use it and use it a lot . I find a mono pod is good also for different angles and fake drone video and it keeps it level .

Great video, Werner. I just bought a GoPro 3+ used, I'm using it on bike rides. Still trying to find the best angles, but your videos help. Thanks for all you do! Subbed.
Your tutorials have already improved my footage quality by a lot and I've used different settings for different situations. I'm so grateful for it! However I'm curious if you have an idea, how to tackle mistake #1 better. It feels like i record for a long period of time and nothing happens. As soon as I turn the camera off, so much interesting stuff goes on. What could be a solution for that?
They have a knew feature called hindsight which records all the time and when you start recording, it saves the 15 to 30 seconds prior to that moment, so you never get caught off guard
Good advice, but there wasn't a single mention of how to extend the battery life! My first time using my gopro was cut short by the battery dying. Would've been life-saving to know about how to extend the battery life back then!

Thanks for the basics, Werner! I'm buying a GoPro #9 in a few weeks to shoot from a kayak - whitewater footage plus flat water paddling, fishing and camping footage, meal preps, and gear reviews in the backcountry. I plan to mount the camera on a short tripod in the center of my kayak so that I can pivot it for vlogging. Can you suggest a self-contained microphone system for voice that can also pick up woodland sounds (birds and animals beyond a few feet.) Unfortunately, the GoPro plugin for an extra mic requires the waterproof battery door to stay open, completely negating the waterproof features. I'm hoping to find something running off a battery pack that does not connect to the camera. I've bought NCH VideoPad editing software and hope to start working with it soon. Any advice would be appreciated! I'll be taking still shots with my T3i Canon. Thanks in advance...Eric
Hi Eric, I have little experience with outdoor microphones. Sometimes I use a Rode lavalier microphone and use it on a recording device. Maybe a recording device like the Tascam DR 05 or the Zoom H1 would be suitable for you. They record autonomously, but you can also connect microphones.
I hope you have better luck with NCH VideoPad than I did. First video I edited and exported to my hard drive, it changed the format to something UA-cam doesn't recognize. If you know what I did wrong, please post my error. Thanks.
Ive spent the last week filming first person videos of my daily work tasks and just everything i do in the day. Its much easier to take 20-30 minute shots or longer, upload the .mp4 files to clipchamp (its free), sort them by date created, then string all the shots together. I speed my videos up x4 to rewatch them and can turn a normal work day into about a 22 minute vid. Just pop captions in where you want to explain something quickly or split the clip and slow down a section if you happen to be talking in the video. When you export do it in 720p they'll still look fine and you,ll have about 1-2GB video when youre done. As far as settings on camera go low with everything and dont bother with hypersmooth.

Thank you so much for this video ... I'm a beginner & would definitely try all the possibilities with my GoPro before I leave for my vacation ... Like you said, there's a ton of info that one has to carry in his mind when shooting before editing ... Once again, thanks a lot ... Cheers 😊👍
Good stuff. I am still making some of these mistakes. The longer clips for instance, I forgot to hit the off button riding home from the airshow Saturday. I found one clip of me riding home, handlebar mounted so bleh.. not exciting at all. Thanks for this one and I will check out more of your tutorials
Very informative. It puzzles me that EVERYBODY talks about, the necessity of ND filters and the 180 shutter-rule. Can’t you get as good as a motion blur in post (like Davinci Studio)? One would be more flexible and wouldn’t have the hassle with the NDs all the time. Hardly anybody talks about the negatives/restrictions of using an ND filter like, color-casting, vignetting, having to use a higher ISO sometimes, not being able to use polarizers with a variable ND filter which is usually less of a quality anyway, bad stabilizing results, etc. If the motion blur is only done in post, without NDs, how good and easy is the result of a proper motion blur and quality?
I just subscribed. I got a GoPro 11 to film pressure washing work. I plan to use fast speed and would like to add logos. Will check out your other vids. Thanks

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Good video man thanks
Very helpful video - I wish I had seen it sooner.
The video is a bit fast-paced for a beginner video. I had to stop it several times and go back. 😢
Nice Video for Go Pro addict👏🏻👍👍
Thank you so much for this video ... I'm a beginner & would definitely try all the possibilities with my GoPro before I leave for my vacation ... Like you said, there's a ton of info that one has to carry in his mind when shooting before editing ... Once again, thanks a lot ... Cheers 😊👍
Thank you Subscribed
Good stuff. I am still making some of these mistakes. The longer clips for instance, I forgot to hit the off button riding home from the airshow Saturday. I found one clip of me riding home, handlebar mounted so bleh.. not exciting at all. Thanks for this one and I will check out more of your tutorials
good advice thx

YOU ROCK
Nice video. I’ll watch some other tutorials in your channel. 👍🏼
