I just got my first GoPro the GP-11. One mistake I made was thinking the firmware update it conducts when powering "on". I could not get through my first poking around the setting before it would literally power itself off. It did this several times so I chatted with GP CS. They instructed me to do a manual firmware update and they emailed me the instructions on how to do this on my own. After the manual update I have not had any more issues. Just a heads up for those who may run into the same issue. Great video btw!

Thanks for the basics, Werner! I'm buying a GoPro #9 in a few weeks to shoot from a kayak - whitewater footage plus flat water paddling, fishing and camping footage, meal preps, and gear reviews in the backcountry. I plan to mount the camera on a short tripod in the center of my kayak so that I can pivot it for vlogging. Can you suggest a self-contained microphone system for voice that can also pick up woodland sounds (birds and animals beyond a few feet.) Unfortunately, the GoPro plugin for an extra mic requires the waterproof battery door to stay open, completely negating the waterproof features. I'm hoping to find something running off a battery pack that does not connect to the camera. I've bought NCH VideoPad editing software and hope to start working with it soon. Any advice would be appreciated! I'll be taking still shots with my T3i Canon. Thanks in advance...Eric

Hi Eric, I have little experience with outdoor microphones. Sometimes I use a Rode lavalier microphone and use it on a recording device. Maybe a recording device like the Tascam DR 05 or the Zoom H1 would be suitable for you. They record autonomously, but you can also connect microphones.

    Very helpful video!
Do you have any good budget video camera you can recommend? Im very guilty in the last one. Bought my hero 9, thought i could now shoot my mountainbikes, ski videos at the same time use it on family hiking, birthday party or even weddings ^^ etc. Ye to often my videos looks like those dark clips you had there :/
I usually break my smartphone on bikes rides, so i need an additional camera. But im new to this :)

Nice video mate thank you very much. This is the first time i am going to use action camera (gopro11) , so far i was using only dslr for photos, so it will be very helpful because indeed action cameras is for other purposes . However i would like to have your opinion about the storage. I was thinking to buy 2 pieces of 256gb sandisk extreme or... extreme pro. Whats your opinion about the capacity i ve mentioned and the type of cards , thanks again :)

Both cards work great with the Hero11 - and the capacity is also well chosen
