  • I have found that most of my customers prefer hats made with super bulky weight yarns, so I set out to design another. The main challenge with heavy weight yarns is that they tend to get overly bulky when you add any texture. I tried to design this beanie so that it creates beautiful texture without all the bulk. It requires very little by way of supplies and is SUPER quick to work up! It takes me less than an hour to whip one up, making it perfect for vendor market prep and Christmas gifts!
For an ad-free printable pdf of this pattern, you can find it for relatively little cost in both pattern shops.

    Supplies Needed:
-90-106 yds of super bulky weight yarn. My go-to is Lion Brand Woolease Thick & Quick: shrsl.com/38t30
-Size N 9.0 mm hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
    -Scissors, tapestry needle, tape measure
    Gauge:
Diameter should measure approx. 6-6.5" (15-16.5 cm) after completing rounds 1-5.
    Finished Measurements:
Designed to fit an adult head, sized 21-23 (53-58 cm) circumference and 8-8.5" (20-22 cm) in length.

I love this hat...but I wish you would mention how many stitches after each row and also it would be helpful to show how you are supposed to be ending each row with the specific last stitch just to verify we are on the same page and ending correctly.

      It is simple math:
      Rnd 1: 8 sts
Rnd 2: increase every st, 8x2= 16 sts
      Rnd 3: increase every other st, 8 x 3= 24
      Rnd 4: increase every other st, 24 + 12 = 36 sts
      Rnd 5: increase every 4th st, 36 + 9= 45
      Rnd 6: decrease by 1 st, 45-1= 44
Then you don’t increase or decrease for the rest of the hat.
Also, I do show how to end each round, so I’m unsure how else to assist you there. Hope this helps

I’m not sure if this will help anyone else, but you turn your work before and after the “bobble” row. You don’t turn in between the single crochet rows. I kept having to rewind the video until this sunk in! It’s a beautiful hat and works ups quickly. Thank you!

I’ve tried starting over 4 different times, and have finally just given up after wasting so much time trying to follow along. Starting each round completely differently, sometimes starting in the same stitch we joined in, sometimes skipping a stitch, sometimes the chain 2 doesn’t count as a stitch. This is a lovely pattern, and I wish I could have made it work, but this is by no means “easy” if you’re just starting out and learning what all of these different techniques mean, and how they affect the next round.

I’m sorry you had so much trouble. This is not a beginner-friendly pattern, but once you get the hang of crocheting, it is very easy I promise. I have never gone a quarter of the way into a tutorial to have the poster say "check your gauge, if its not the same as mine, tear it all up and start over". Im struggling already because the friend Im making this for likes black and red, and black is really really hard to see the stitches even with my cheaters on lol, then for some reason the black/gray yarn (wool ease super heavy same as yours) is EXTRA fuzzy making those stitches just vanish lol. Im about to just give it up and pick a different tutorial. This says 'easy' .. if I was brand new, Id have given up in round two.
