UPDATE: I just towed almost 4k miles, and I absolutely loved having the paddle shifters. I pulled my trailer over multiple 7k+ foot summits on 6%+ grades and it was so nice to be able to easily shift up and down through the gears as needed. It worked really well to put the truck in M and then set the cruise control. This way the truck will maintain the speed when possible, but if you hit a steep incline your speed will drop until you manually down shift. I liked this a lot because I would rather lose a couple MPH's and maintain a gear at 2500-3000 RPM than have the truck down shift a gear and rev up to 4500 RPM to maintain the set speed. This also prevents the transmission from hunting gears and shifting too much when using cruise control, which is what can burn up your trans and the reason people say not to use cruise control while towing.
An up date, I followed all of directions in this video, including moving the switches as suggested everything works perfect. This is an amazing upgrade from that old rubber steering wheel to this all leather steering wheel with the paddles. By moving the switches from the right side of your steering wheel everything works exactly like the old wheel. As I said before, a perfect video.
Thanks for this tutorial, it was very informative, detailed, and helpful. I got it done in about an hour and a half. It would have taken less time if I could find all my tools faster.
This is an amazing video, just follow it step by step. The video is perfect, not constantly jerking the camera around, and clear easy to understand video. and it works for the F-150 as well.
Thank you for doing this video. I plan on doing this to my 2022 F350 with the PS. Using the shifters will come in handy when I need to use the first few gears off roading. Going through all 10 gears on the street would get exhausting after awhile.
I'm trying to workout this application for a 2021 F250 Diesel, any advice? What steering wheel model did you use? Thanks for the educational info. Well done.
Hey I know this video is a few years old now but I was thinking of swapping my f150 steering wheel as well, just curious did you have to completely swap your XLT wiring harness into the raptor wheel? Or did you just use the raptor harness that came with the orange stitched wheel? Just wondering if everything with the controls is plug and play if you use the raptor wiring harness. Thank you!
The only thing you have to swap over is the horn/airbag assembly. I chose to swap the steering wheel controls too. Then you put in the boosted grey goose harness if you want the paddle shifters to actually work.
Nice video, thanks for posting. Might do this mod on my new 2023 F150 XL. Curious if it's possible to hookup the heated steering wheel but I've not researched this beyond knowing the part is available on ford performance. I'm considering the upgrade for the wheel feel, 4L offroading control, and possibly towing (long term). I grew up with manual transmissions so do like to be control engine RPM with gearing. Agree this is a very expensive mod, but for now it's on my mind.
It is possible to do the heated steering wheel, there is an additional harness you need which Boosted Gray Goose sells for $350, and that is why I didn't buy it haha. I live in CA so my cold weather is like 30, not worth the money to me. I love the steering wheel and the manual shifting though!
@@ironwoodoverland I live in the SFBay area for now so 30 is unusual, but do plan on trips with a camper to much colder areas. I added the engine block heater so the truck can be happy and I might want a steering wheel heater so we are both happy on those cold starts in the mountains or mid-west winters, if I visit family. 350 is a bit pricey, but I'll still look into it more. thanks for update!
@@manygarza4634 No update on this project. I prioritized a couple other projects higher so might get to this next year. Will probably just skip the heater and wear gloves.
Question, where does the plugs from the paddle shifters plug into? The steering wheel I have didn't come with the plugs that plugs into the paddle shifters so I'm missing something. Thanks!
Love the video I was just thinking about if this was available for my 2017 f250. But. I have a stupid question. Will this work for a 2017 f250 if it’s a diesel?
Thank you. My stock steering wheel had two buttons and different spots then the raptor wheel, I think it was the mode button and the push to talk button. So what I did was just take out the button cluster and replace it with the cluster from my stock wheel. I'm pretty sure it shows it in the video.
Wasnt able to remove the damn air bag no matter how I tried, what tool I used, wtv. Its almost ripped a part now. Just bought this truck and past owners fucked around it a lot lol
I don’t see why people think the paddle shifters are pointless on a ten speed I like to downshift on decel and it’s a pain in the ass with the column shifter the way it’s setup from the factory
That makes sense. I guess I’ve just never driven a 10 speed and thought that the extra gears would make it too cumbersome to do it manually. Another commentor pointed out that they would be good for off road
Nope, you can still lock out gears like normal with the plus minus button. This just makes it so you can actually shift up/down when you want to if in manual mode. The computer will prevent you from downshifting or upshifting to a gear that would damage your trans. For example, if you're driving at 60 mph you can downshift to first gear, It will let you go down to second and then the second gear indicator will just flash if you were to try to downshift further.
Congrats, you did a great job. Is not a good thing that your wiring supplier didn't offer accurate instructions with regards the steering controls. That supplier is well known to leave customer hanging out there after taking their money, no support at all, and good luck for those planning in ordering, cause that supplier shipping process is a nightmare, his fast charging peoples cards and then simply let the order sitting with no status.
It's arguably a little labor intensive. If you go to ford-trucks.com You can find the instructions to make the harness yourself. I wish I would have done that in hindsight just for the experience

That's actually the steering mode button, not steering wheel heat button. Great video!!

Thanks for the feedback!
I did this mod and glad I watched this. This helped me out a lot, and prevented rework. thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks. I used part of this to help me install on my 2020 F150 today. Well done.
Excellent video, thank you for not skipping over or waving away any of the small steps. Very descriptive and well shot! Thanks again!

Thank you so much, loved the detailed video

Nicely done. I'm looking to do this Mod on my 2019 XLT.
Thanks for watching, be sure to hit the like button, it really helps me out! The process for your 2019 is the exact same, you wont be disappointed!
May know where did you order the boosted greygoose harnes, ty

It will, it's for all 2017+ super duties, check the link in the description.
So you can have a front bench seat with a column shifter and paddle shifters?
That’s right!
@Ironwood Overland 🤦I wish I would of known this before I bought my 2018 F150 ecoboost with the useless floor shifter
Excellent video, thank you for putting this together!
I would love to get paddle shifters on my 2017 F250 Platinum but the adaptive steering prevents me from doing this.
Awesome video!
Do all the controls such as music changing and volume and cruise control work on the new steering wheel?

great video dude
Idk how I got here I didn’t even know this was a option now I need a carbon fiber ine
great video

Will it work in my 2015 F250?
Don’t think so, but you’d have to check boosted grey gooses website
Link for purchase?

Does this mod disable the stock manual shift bottom on the shifter lever ?

Is your truck equipped with assisted steering?
Nope
@@ironwoodoverland ok, I have f450 and I think they come equipped with it, wonder if there's a easy way to find out. Thanks for the vid.
Would this work with a 2022 ?
Yes, it should. Go to boosted gray goose and see if their harness says it will work for 22, if it does the procedure will be the same.

Wasn't expecting such a small harness to cost $129.

You know what sucks is if you have lane keeping. This steering wheel will not work. Ask me how I know 😂
