What are those other parts that hang down in the front?
Wasnt able to remove the damn air bag no matter how I tried, what tool I used, wtv. Its almost ripped a part now. Just bought this truck and past owners fucked around it a lot lol
Looks great but wondering why you didn’t just remove it completely?
There are a bunch of metal tabs that would be exposed and it looks bad/unfinished if you don’t leave at least some of the valence.
@@ironwoodoverland 👍
I'm trying to workout this application for a 2021 F250 Diesel, any advice? What steering wheel model did you use? Thanks for the educational info. Well done.
Part numbers are in the description, I chose the orange sight mark model.
2024 f250 with the monster fat lip. Used a box cutter. A few, slow cuts and done. Huge diff with onky 2 3/8" remaining.
Great video thanks!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Congrats, you did a great job. Is not a good thing that your wiring supplier didn't offer accurate instructions with regards the steering controls. That supplier is well known to leave customer hanging out there after taking their money, no support at all, and good luck for those planning in ordering, cause that supplier shipping process is a nightmare, his fast charging peoples cards and then simply let the order sitting with no status.
Waiting for a video on how to extend the valance. Ford extended the valance in 2020 but 2020 version doesn't fit earlier models. Looks aren't as important as mileage to me.
Question, where does the plugs from the paddle shifters plug into? The steering wheel I have didn't come with the plugs that plugs into the paddle shifters so I'm missing something. Thanks!
Can you give me the timestamp from the video showing what you are referencing?
Nice clean cut. Can't bring myself to cut mine. I would probably go with a 4" valance, just enough to hide the brackets you removed.
I put one on my f350 a few weeks ago and it opens super slow. I dont have the tailgate step so maybe that extra weight makes a difference. Thanks for the video
I installed one today and have the same issue. Did it ever speed up after some use?
I have opposite problem on my 2017 with built in step, it opens faster than this by a lot
Will it work in my 2015 F250?
Don’t think so, but you’d have to check boosted grey gooses website
Hey I know this video is a few years old now but I was thinking of swapping my f150 steering wheel as well, just curious did you have to completely swap your XLT wiring harness into the raptor wheel? Or did you just use the raptor harness that came with the orange stitched wheel? Just wondering if everything with the controls is plug and play if you use the raptor wiring harness. Thank you!
The only thing you have to swap over is the horn/airbag assembly. I chose to swap the steering wheel controls too. Then you put in the boosted grey goose harness if you want the paddle shifters to actually work.
Is your truck equipped with assisted steering?
Nope
@@ironwoodoverland ok, I have f450 and I think they come equipped with it, wonder if there's a easy way to find out. Thanks for the vid.
Great video. I ordered the part from Ford on April 3, 2023. Almost 2 months and still waiting for it. But, once I get it, I know it will be easy to install. 😀
Best Valance change/upgrade sound track!!
Thanks for this tutorial, it was very informative, detailed, and helpful. I got it done in about an hour and a half. It would have taken less time if I could find all my tools faster.
That works a hell of a lot better then the cheap way. don’t ask me how I know 😂
Definitely looks good and I strongly agree the razor blade method is best nice smooth cut any other way is going to leave a ruff edge I just leave it that way looks great
Thanks for watching!
You know what sucks is if you have lane keeping. This steering wheel will not work. Ask me how I know 😂
So you can have a front bench seat with a column shifter and paddle shifters?
That’s right!
@Ironwood Overland 🤦I wish I would of known this before I bought my 2018 F150 ecoboost with the useless floor shifter
Well done to you and both of your lovely assistants! Thanks for posting this.
Nice video, thanks for posting. Might do this mod on my new 2023 F150 XL. Curious if it's possible to hookup the heated steering wheel but I've not researched this beyond knowing the part is available on ford performance. I'm considering the upgrade for the wheel feel, 4L offroading control, and possibly towing (long term). I grew up with manual transmissions so do like to be control engine RPM with gearing. Agree this is a very expensive mod, but for now it's on my mind.
It is possible to do the heated steering wheel, there is an additional harness you need which Boosted Gray Goose sells for $350, and that is why I didn't buy it haha. I live in CA so my cold weather is like 30, not worth the money to me. I love the steering wheel and the manual shifting though!
@@ironwoodoverland I live in the SFBay area for now so 30 is unusual, but do plan on trips with a camper to much colder areas. I added the engine block heater so the truck can be happy and I might want a steering wheel heater so we are both happy on those cold starts in the mountains or mid-west winters, if I visit family. 350 is a bit pricey, but I'll still look into it more. thanks for update!
Any updates on your truck I planing to do the same on a 2023
@@manygarza4634 No update on this project. I prioritized a couple other projects higher so might get to this next year. Will probably just skip the heater and wear gloves.
Great video and the **exact** info I needed. Thank you very much!
Thank you for the video
great video
No bullshit Bro, after watching i went out and did mine. Took some skin off my hand wrenching them bolts off but looks WAY BETTER !! Thanks for the inspiration 🤙🏽
Awesome! Thanks for watching
Music is too loud
Thanks for the feedback!
May know where did you order the boosted greygoose harnes, ty
There is a link in the video description. Thanks for watching
great video dude
Would this work with a 2022 ?
Yes, it should. Go to boosted gray goose and see if their harness says it will work for 22, if it does the procedure will be the same.
An up date, I followed all of directions in this video, including moving the switches as suggested everything works perfect. This is an amazing upgrade from that old rubber steering wheel to this all leather steering wheel with the paddles. By moving the switches from the right side of your steering wheel everything works exactly like the old wheel. As I said before, a perfect video.
Thank You for the informative and educational video, thank you too your beautiful helpers as well...
This is an amazing video, just follow it step by step. The video is perfect, not constantly jerking the camera around, and clear easy to understand video. and it works for the F-150 as well.
Thanks for the feedback!
Link for purchase?
In the description of the video.
Idk how I got here I didn’t even know this was a option now I need a carbon fiber ine
I did this mod and glad I watched this. This helped me out a lot, and prevented rework. thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I would've just gotten a gooseneck and save time and effort. And in the long run. Probably money.
What do you mean by a gooseneck?
No way in hell would my cut look nice and clean like that lol nice job
Suprised no one has used a scoring knife for plastic...makes a very nice cut and is easier to control.
Such an inexpensive but useful upgrade! Nice video. I just put mine on today.
Shame ford won't let you get a black interior on the super duty XL and XLT models 🙄 the only bad thing I could find on these.
I don’t see why people think the paddle shifters are pointless on a ten speed I like to downshift on decel and it’s a pain in the ass with the column shifter the way it’s setup from the factory
That makes sense. I guess I’ve just never driven a 10 speed and thought that the extra gears would make it too cumbersome to do it manually. Another commentor pointed out that they would be good for off road
Thank you for doing this video. I plan on doing this to my 2022 F350 with the PS. Using the shifters will come in handy when I need to use the first few gears off roading. Going through all 10 gears on the street would get exhausting after awhile.
Updates ?
Just drill the lower bolt out with a 3/8’ drill bit and install a m8x1.50mm nylon nut on back side to install the lower shock mount bolt with ease
Late to the game, but I've installed two of these. The trick is to thread the ball mount from the opposite way/nut side first to start the threads, run it all the way up and remove....then it'll start by hand from the correct side easily. Yes, a ratcheting closed end over the ball will make tightening it easier....you need to put the wrench on 1st since there's not enough room to put it on after you start the stud....but plenty of room to remove it after tight. Another thing I found is find a saw horse, table or another set of hands to just remove one cable and one side of the tailgate...use towels, Styrofoam or similar and lay the gate on the support....or just have a buddy hold it for the 1 minute to remove the bracket and install the new one...no need to completely remove the tailgate. I cannot believe anyone would install the aftermarket damper vs. this OEM one.
Awesome video!
Love the video I was just thinking about if this was available for my 2017 f250. But. I have a stupid question. Will this work for a 2017 f250 if it’s a diesel?
It will, it's for all 2017+ super duties, check the link in the description.
What is mpg on this truck?
I don't really remember stock to be honest. It's on 35" MTs now and I get maybe 12-13 mpg on the highway, 10 mpg mixed driving, and 8-9 mpg when towing 8k lbs. I think in the future I'll go with 33 AT's and see if that helps some. 4.30 gears don't do much for mpg's, but they are great when towing my camper throughout the mountains of the western states, which is what I use this truck for.
Thanks. I used part of this to help me install on my 2020 F150 today. Well done.
Thank you so much, loved the detailed video
