    George... another informative video. Good Job!
    Before I watched your previous L03A video... I tried cleaning a set of these with some automotive brake cleaner followed by a fine emory paper. I don't know how they were contaminated... The bike had a previous owner... so???
    Well... as it happens, you were right that cleaning tricks would fail, the pads stopped the bike, but after the measured break-in, they produced a strange harmonic sound at peak braking. I also tried a KoolStop replacement set of pads... but they produced a rythmic clicking, that I could not totally elliminate by adjusting the rotor.
    I am really getting frustrated with Shimano options... so this video is very timely.
    I guess I need to order two sets of MTX pads.
    Thanks for the education.

      Hello Alan thank you for your comment and thank you for your order! I strongly suggest if you’re having a lot of issues with pads that you also replace the rotors. I’m afraid if you put the brand new MTX Pads on contaminated rotors you will not be satisfied with the MTX pads and they will also need to be thrown away. I have Shimano Rotors 140mm and 160mm in stock.

    Good video. Great insight from a shop owner and someone who deals with the supplier network. I've been after the L03A pads for ages and have recently seen the L05A. L05A seem to be quite freely available in the UK so I think I'll give them a try and cancel my outstanding order for L03A (ordered 12th Jan 2022). Strange how Shimano seem to claim 30-40% more wear resistance for each generation of pad (I remember this from L02A to L03A) like they're trying to sell less consumables 🤣🤣

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  2 роки тому

      Interesting that the L05A are available in the UK 🇬🇧 but I can’t get them from Shimano North American headquarters 😡 😂
      Where I live and ride brake pads don’t last that long so 30-40% just means another couple three months. We have so many steep hills here that pads don’t last more than 6 months. ☹️

      @@SeeYouUpTheRoad They arrived in a couple of days. Ordered 2 pairs. Look identical to the L03A. Good thing is that they are packaged in a small cardboard box rather than the huge, rigid, clear plastic packaging that the old ones were in.

    Great video. i ordered some l05a and k05ti pads today. They have been showing up in stores in Switzerland and Germany. Excited to see the wear life. My pads last 4 months at best, and that only because i have 3 bikes that i ride in equal amounts. but an average ride consists of 1500m elevation, so i will be able to tell if they are actually lasting longer soon :D

      That’s great intel! Where are riding? 1500 meter is like 5,000 feet. That’s a great ride and something we do often here in San Diego.

    I’m in Australia I just discovered these mystery L05A pads today when searching in desperation. After months of looking everywhere for L03A pads (or another brand replacement but I can’t find anything that looks the same as the Shimano pads wit( the fins) , I knew my pad depth was getting low but today I checked the pads and there’s nothing left of the pads in the front. Another online search and these L05A turn up… never heard of them before a bit more searching tells me they are a new version to replace the L03A so I’ve just put in an order as they are in stock when L03A haven’t been in stock since last year.
    The limited availability of the L03A pad for the last 18 months is ridiculous. Shimano component supply chain shortage has been famously bad for some time but brake pads are just about the most important replacement part for a bike I can think off. A chain you can keep pushing past is best life for some time but when a disc pad is down to the last millimetre before the metal, what are you going to do? I’ve been checking on line and with local bike shops and any small supplies of stock they get they are selling, they are holding onto them to service customers bikes, not somebody like me who builds my own bikes and services them myself. Fair enough.

      I have L04C in stock!

      But you don’t have to go crazy looking for L04C I always keep the MTX Gold in stock. It offers all the advantages of a metal pads without the disadvantages of metal - like noise and that grinding feeling
      www.revendurancesports.com/copy-of-mtx-red-label-race-brake-pads-dis-43755967.html
      If I’ve said it once I’ve said it 1000 times YOU DON’T NEED to ride Shimano pads and you DON’T NEED the fins to have exceptional performance from your brake pads. You need an exceptional brake compound like the MTX.
      I look forward to your order!

      Swiss Stop IS a better pad. But during the lockdown of 2020 and beyond people were obsessed with only buying the OEM pads. SwissStop pads were out at my all distributors for many months here in the US.

    Do those MTX pads fit in the Ultegra Br-8070-R's ? They look quite a bit different.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  2 роки тому

      Yes of course they fit that’s why I have been recommending them since the huge debacle with Shimano pads.
      The silly little fins sit outside the caliper so they are irrelevant when matching up the braking surface of other brake pads.
      IF you are riding Shimano Flat Mount brakes then Purchase the MTX with confidence.

    Hey great Video.
    Could you tell me the wear limit of the l03a in mm? Cant find it ...

    Thanks in advance

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  2 роки тому

      Hello it’s generally accepted that the west limits on on disc brake pad is 1mm. Best tip for measuring that is - twice the width of the retaining spring.
      Changing them early isn’t a bad thing. It’s much better early than late 😂
      Let me know when you need pads I have tons of pads for Shimano flat mount brakes in stock!

    I was able to stock up on the L03A pads here in New York. Should I purchase more sets or do you thinks that a waste of money buy more than I need .I also haven’t been able to find the compatible version on the Swiss stop pads. • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Рік тому

      I guess you weren’t listening and you obviously can’t read either since the title tells you that it is being replaced. Also it’s L03A and L05A-RF it’s a zero not an O (so see you learned so much already from me 😉 )
      And you probably meant to type ramble about my air conditioner not pre-amble because pre-amble doesn’t make sense in this sentence (see no one is perfect not even you)
      Lastly, we don’t need YOU not liking how I run my channel. People who view my channel like to hear me talk for 9 minutes or 30 minutes or whatever. You don’t like it no one forced you to watch it. I’m sure there’s a TikTok video with your answer.
      Why did you even bother making a comment anyway? Do you think I’m was going to change the way I present the material because you didn’t like it? 😂

      Geez I just rewatched the video. You didn’t have the patience to wait 5 minutes? Just after I mention the air conditioner kicking on, which sometimes drowns me out when doing bike repairs, I state that the L05A pads are the new pads. So it wasn’t 9 minutes. The rest of the video described the pads and I also gave you an alternative pad to use that is superior to the Shimano pads. There is a lot of valuable content in my videos you just need to be patient open minded and ready to learn.
      Thanks for watching
