- Today I test Kicker's entry line CX series 1200W amplifier!
I didn't have huge expectations for this amp, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

there is a certification in the box that will give you the wattage specific to the amp and it is always guaranteed to be higher than it's box rated power. Also that amp is was not $249 when released, it is $349. the newer xca1200.1 is the same price. Now you might be able to get the older one for nearly $319. These amps are solid and put out clean, true power for the price. And also they are not the lowest end of their line. The DX is.

rtkota5point9 I use my 2 old kx 1200.1 on strapping mode @ 1 ohm and they are impressive amps
I have a CX300.1 running 2-10in MXT and a JL Audio 8W1V3 in a series-parallel configuration at 2.67 ohms and it stomps pretty hard. I am pleased with that amp.
Definitely subbed. Like all amps this will clip but when I tested it with an oscilloscope for 2 American Bass XFL 12"s in a 4cubft box it actually does some great clean power at 1ohm. On a soft clip (small amount of distortion) I broke my rear window off the motor at 32hz! If you need good power in a small package get it. I'll be happily powering an X15 in the future with this. Great amp. Awesome review.
I run 2 of these in my audi with a kicker dual 10inch pro comp box. I bought these at best buy during covid and they were 78 bucks a piece. I used good hardware to hook them up and I am absolutely happy with what they produce. I was skeptical at first but got really surprised by the sound. I have friends with amps that cost as much as my ride and they said my system is bumpin as well. I'm glad to see the tests you did thanks now at least I know it's not just a freak accident they sound good lol.
I hate it when people underestimate Kicker.... I've have multiple Kicker subs and amps. They always do what's advertised and I've NEVER had a single problem with any of them.
Same for me, I’ve never had issues with kicker product. I took an entry level comp and put it on 800 watts rms just for fun and the cool didn’t blow but it ripped the surround. I was really surprised the coil didn’t cook so I used strips of gorilla tape to make a “surround” and I put 1000 watts to it and it still didn’t blow! I put it up on my little wall of fame and it’ll still play.

I had this amp running a 15" kicker l7 was amazing! Little distortion, very clean bass most of the time.
I got this amp and it is very efficient,I am not a kicker fan but this little amp hits hard don't underestimate it like this guy .
I am shocked! never thought an lower line amp would perform so well.
I've got this amp in my truck it's a badass little amp sounds good, pushes good and stays cold. I like it.
I've run my cx1200 at 1.6 ohm for over a year on an eclipse aluminum and I'm impressed. I normally use more brands that aremy typically mainstream ie: sundown or incriminator but I bought it in a hurry and beat the crap out of it so far. lowish voltage, mild clipping even vibrations from being mounted on the box haven't affected it at all.
considering I only needed 500watts at 1.6 ohm and really thinking I might have to run it a 6 ohm instead this amp has out performed my expectations
I am surprised to see that much from an entry level kicker amp too. Wow. I have had kicker amps that pushed 950 watts that were much larger in size than thus amp. Glad to see the kicker line making the best of newer technology. I'm sure that this amp at rated 14.4 volts would get everything it's supposed to. I would definitely buy this amp.
I've had one of these for around 5 years. 2 hours in the car pounding 5 days per week. Still working. Been through 3 or 4 different subs tho

many enthusiasts hate on mainstream brands and products that are available at best buy or wal mart but you'd be surprised to know that kenwood, pioneer, sony, kicker, and entry level alpine and rockford amps all do at least rated power on 14.4v
I have actually never seen anyone talk crap about the amps, just the speakers and subs.
I got the rzr-1 2500 power acoustic amp from walmart for $100..I seen a dyno run on it and its putting out its rated rms watts and some..Definitely a great buy..I had it on to sony explode 1300 watts 12's and it was loud but my sealed box was shit..Found a new ported box with two kicker comp vr 12's for $180..Was definitely happy with my sony's,but these comp vr's are on a different level than the explods..But definitely curious to see how the explodes sound in the ported box

I have the CX300.1 with a single 10” sub in the back of my 58 Bug, and it sounds as powerful as much bigger setups I’ve ran in trunks of other cars. I needed an amp that wouldn’t kill the electrical system, and it does a good job with what it’s in
I ran mine at 1 ohm for a while and it would go into thermal protect sometimes, mainly during summer months. Never blew it, still have the thing too

Talking w/ kicker guy that help build this amp, said that those amps are very efficient. That they can also produce that amount of watts as long as voltage is not lower than 9.8, which I thought was pretty impressive. So even cars w/not that much power can jam out!
That is a surprise out of that amp. Makes me wonder what my amp is really doing.

I've got a dx1000.1 that's impressive as hell. Kicker has always made shit that hits. Im 50 and have been around a bit.
Me too It sure is impressive for its size I had it dyno at my friend's shop it was pushing 1376 watts at 1 ohm no problem.
can you run this amp at 1 ohm stable? or when your bumping will it go into protect mode
Would you prefer this amp or the kx1200.1? Also have you ever tested any elf audio amps... i have one that says 500 watts but sounds much better than others that said 2400 watts that i had before on a kicker l7 15 solo baric thanks in advance
Wow what kind of equipment is required for this testing? I’d love to test my old black and chrome Rockford Fosgate power1000@2. It originally came with a birth sheet and I think it was benched at 1364W. Cool video 😉
Well, great video as always. I Just picked up the DX 1000.1 model on a trade to run two 12" subs rated at 600 wrms. If this Amp did so well, I'm sure the DX should do around if not over 1200wrms easy on 14.4 v..
Would you guess the 250.1 is also fairly true to its number ? Im running 1 10" JL w0v3.4 sealed box and I am told I am underpowering it.
I have two of this cheap cx600.1 with 4 12 inch 4 ohm svc subwoofers let me tell you I don't like kicker but I was very impressed with the power these little things produce🤯
Just to let everyone know. I’ve owned the cx1200.1 and a pair of kicker compR 10’s since 2016. They have been Awesome no problems at all . The amp kicked those subs HARD and I played it daily for hours on end. Till last year my 11 yr old son showing off for his buddies cranked it up and blew one side of the amp and believe or not, it still hasn’t died!!! It still plays and hits kinda hard. Mind you it needs to be fixed just haven’t done it yet. Give these amp a break!!! I’ve always had Rockin stereos in my rides and this amp has out performed 95% of the others!! Props to you at kicker for building such a tough and Powerful little amp.. I’ll have this one fixed and buy another one and upgrade to two 12’s 1 amp per sub. I’m redoing my mods and highs as well with all kicker and buy a kicker amp for that too. Well really be Rockin then!!👍🤢🤢😁😁😁😎😎😎😎😎
What retailer can you find this amp for $250? I currently have a Hifonics Zeus Zxx500.2 and i'm not happy with it. So i plan on a replacement.
iv got this amp on 12 inch crv kickers 2 and it's my baby hits hard
My Kicker DX250.1 Blew it's 15 amp fuses,the ones that are on the actual amp. I replaced them and I disconnected my speaker input wires thinking that could have shorted the amp out, and Soon as I reconnect the power cables, they go out instantly. What can cause this problem? What exactly in the internals can cause this? I know about electrical components, capacitors, resistors and all that. Just curious what can go wrong in a amp for that to happen.Did something possibly shortout randomly?
Nice test- I have always liked kicker amps. I am not surprised at all that they do rated. I feel that with any Kicker- Rockford- Alpine, etc amp are pretty accurate on there ratings. Most of the majors are CEA compliant and usually have a 'birth sheet' showing power at x distortion. I have Skar amps for one of my builds(sk1500 on a 18" SSA Xcon) and Crescendo in another(BC5500 on 2 18" Tantric 18's)- But this lil amp is prolly going in my next build-as I need 2-ohm power for an 18" Incriminator Death Row I have.

I have this amp on a skar audio evl 15 at 2ohm's and it sounds amazing. Tune to 28hz. I have it at 1ohm when I compete with my sundown x15. Best amp I own for 2 years. Still have it
@Mark Seven I set mine somewhere between 3/4 and 7/8 gain on my American bass XFL 10s. Tuned to 28hz on my Rockford 2000 and the gain was at 45-49% range. When I switched to the kicker amp I got a box tuned @33hz. The lows weren't there like with the 28hz box so I turned up the gain and I could suddenly feel it in my lungs. Not as good as the 28hz box but man once I cranked that gain I felt it so much deeper.
So you did the 1 ohm test and it didn't go into protect, so does it mean the amp is 1 ohm stable?
Will it push 2 10" 4ohm dd 500 series redline there 400wrms each with 1200 watt peak?
What is that device you have the amp hooked up to?? It has the same dispay as an smd dyno
Kickers amps are CEA certified. All of them should do rated.
Cea is a distortion rating not wattage and it only is certified at 4 ohm
I have a kicker speaker L5 10 inches square. it works with this amplifier? because I use to have a torque amplifier 1200 watts but it burn about a month ago.

Hugo Castillo this lil amp is fucking crazy!! I have one on 2 American Bass XD1544, wired down to 1 ohm.... so much power. Underrated imo. I’ll be getting the American Bass XFL1544, along with a second CX1200.1, strap them together for more power. My trunk is already about to fly off... I’m actually scared of what 2 might do lmao
I have this amp on 2 quantum audio 3000 watt subs and it powers those just fine. This little amp kicks ass...
What wattage do my subs need to be at? Had subs which only maxed out at 400 is it too much?

The 600.1 is $249 MSRP
The CX is not "Bottom of the Barrel". Renegade is Kickers Bottom of the Barrel for $90 (I mis spoke here: Renegade is Rockford Fosgate lowest tier, not Kicker. My bad. DXA is Kickers lowest tier)
My CX 1200.1 Certification Paper shows it Rates 250 Watts over the 1200 @ 2 Ohm.

Prime is Rockford's lowest line... Renegade was made under Rockford just like Lightning Audio. Little bit of a difference.

People say im crazy for running a rated 2ohm at 1ohm. I did for about 6 months on 2 12's. Rockford Fosgate hx2 they absolutely beat. Just recently upgraded amp still works. Plan on keeping her.

This Amp is great I have it running 4 12'inch 2015 Comp R It only went into protect once when I had the amp in a closed area where my spare tire used to be in the summer. Now I have it close to the speakers with more air going to it and it just gets warm now. I wanna get a 2000 watt kicker amp but I got this Amp for $250. The 2000 watt RMS amp from kicker is going to be $1000 so I am considering just getting another CX 1200.1? I just don't wanna run more wires.
I was wondering I just bought this kicker 1200.1 cx amp. Where did you have the gain, low pass filter and bass boost at when you did this test or were they all at 0. I'm new to this don't know if they make a difference in watts when you turn up the gain, low pass, and bass boost. Thanks.
Yes and no. Yes the power will increase as you turn up the gain and/or bass boost (to a point, that point being clipping), but they are not volume knobs. They are to be matched to the input voltage of your headunit. Telling you where mine were will not help you in your vehicle. You need to properly match your gain to the input voltage coming from your particular headunit. Low-pass is usually sets somewhere around 80hz for most people. That depends on driver, enclosure tuning, personal preference, etc though, but 80hz is usually a good starting point.
And it recommends to move 2 kickers L7 12 "2 ohms?

ran this amp at 1ohm on 2 american bass tnt 15's for over a yr and my son has had it at 1ohm for about 16 months on an bd2 18 and this little amp gets down! $25 at my local pawn shop and i got my moneys worth for sure.
What's a good amp to run the 2 2ohm L7'S
I had a 15inch l7 and this amp completely fried it. first it blew my 100amp fuse then it made my sub rock solid after my local car audio shop said that kicker recommended this amp for a l7.
That amp would be just fine on an L7. Nobody can control if you drive the amp into clipping. That's most likely what killed it.

I have the exact amplifier but i don't know what subs to use. could you help me out? i was planning on getting 2 alpine type r 10" two ohms but i don't know if it would work. specs of speakers is peak power handling 3000 watts and RMS is 1000 watts. dual coil. or any recommendations?
James Oliva The amp will obviously be a little lacking on power compared to what the two Type-R's recommend. Will it work? Short answer, yes. Just be very very careful when setting gains that you're not sending the amplifier into excessive slipping. That is what is going to give you problems. You may be tempted, since the amplifier is not quite large enough, to set the gain past the safe point and into clipping to try and get as loud as you ca with the smaller amp, which can destroy the subs.

I got a question brotha, I have this amp and two Rockford fosgate p3 12s in a rhino box wired at 4ohm. Bass is so damm clean I've been wondering how the subs sound at 1ohm. I've done research and all say this amp won't handle 1ohm. Anyways I almost bought a 1ohm stable amp but watching this video looks like it should handle it. what you think, am I good? The most I bump my music is 45min to 1hr driving to work.

I run all kicker, you either have never heard of kicker which is really strange or you're just a kicker hater either way I've been running kicker for years and I always seem to blow my subs from the Kicker amps I run which is the 1200.1 thats in this video, until I stopped being cheap and got the subs that were rated for the same rms as the amp. Over all great video glad to see someone else that is as impressed with kicker as I have been over the years

So is bass boost bad to have on. I have it at 3db now i put it at half 6db but it didn't sound good at all I was reading that having it on isn't good. Where I got my system installed they set my gain to my headunit low pass at 80hz and bass boost at 3 dB. Is clipping the same as distorted sound. Thanks
Clipping is a type of distortion, but distortion is not necessarily clipping. The lower you can keep the bass boost the better.

You can run the CompR's no problem. The 1200W rating you specify is MAX, not RMS.
I got one of these could I hook up 2 8 ohm subs bridged like this 300x4
I got 2 12" l5s and been running them on a Rockford amp I think its 1000w rms and it starts clipping before I get it past 40/62 would this amp be better its rated a little higher and is kicker but its so much less money I don't know if I should buy it.

This amp will do 1 ohm? I have a l3 dual 2 ohm speaker I'd like to hook up to this amp as I do have it but havnt yet as I couldn't find anything saying it will do 1 ohm. So I have it hooked up to a hifonix 1100.1
