    I saw someone do a masculine-feminine ranking of the adaptogens, I think Schisandra was the most feminine and panax ginseng was the most masculine, rhodiola and ashwaghanda were masculine and feminine respectively and were of the same absolute magnitude as well

    In 2002, it saved my life. All my clients, including my retired mom, use it. A nurse at 81, she doesn't need any medication. I prefer not to use it in its raw form due to its potency. It works best when blended with other ingredients. I personally take 3-5 drops under my tongue, holding it there for a few seconds. Afterwards, I drink some fruit juice, such as orange juice, and follow it with water after a few minutes. Water is essential for its optimal effectiveness. This amazing substance provides restful sleep and opens up all 12 chi meridians. Therefore, it is excellent for stress relief and enhancing libido.

    I've been taking ashwaganda to help with stress management, and it works. I have hyperhydrosis and my hands and feet sweat nonstop in warm weather. I recently read shisandra could help, and also does many of the things ashwaganda does. I'm thinking of switching to shisandra to see.

    I add a dropper full (which is actually 1/2) to my morning coffee concoction. No more afternoon shlump.
    I’ve been known to have adrenal fatigue and my energy is more stable and my sleep improving.
    Prior to adding this I will add that I’ve been off of sugar for 7 weeks now and this seemed to be the final piece to help. (I put electrolytes and iodine and 40gm beef bone broth powder in my coffee too plus MCT and heavy cream). It’s the bomb.

    Schisandra, apart from being a phytoestrogen, it also blocks DHT production. While it raises GABA (to relieve stress), it also agonizes 5-HT1A receptor (can cause PSSD). It also raises T3/T4 hormones, so is a risk if you have hyperthyroidism. But hey, it increases libido!
    Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @JessicaNortonND
      @JessicaNortonND  3 місяці тому

      Schisandra is thought to be a weak phytoestrogen, meaning it can bind (with mild affinity) to estrogen receptors. The research (in mice) I've seen on how it helps with stress points to some constituents increasing GABA, but other mechanisms are still unknown. I've also seen some research that it can increase the conversion of T4 to T3 and possibly increase T4. But I've no clinical experience with it increasing libido. Most herbs have these multifactorial mechanisms which are even more interesting when herbs are mixed in formula. This is why I alway recommend that people work with someone who knows how to use these herbs. Just because its OTC doesn't always means it's safe or effective or the right choice!. Hi, I have RA and I take 4mg of Prednisone every day.. can I take schisandra? Thanks

    • @JessicaNortonND
      @JessicaNortonND  8 місяців тому +1

      The herb can act on cytochrome P450 which is the same liver enzyme that prednisone acts on, so it can interfere with the action of the prednisone. This is something I would recommend speaking to your doc with because of the potential interaction. I do have patients who are on RA meds and taking herbs but at the same time I am monitoring symptoms liver enzymes.

    • @JessicaNortonND
      @JessicaNortonND  Рік тому +2

      Hmm...the only research I've come across is that some studies have shown that some constituents of schisandra may act as a weak phytoestrogen, (but the results were not consistent across the research) Which theoretically might cause breast swelling/tenderness. Were you taking it alone or mixed with other herbs/supplements?
