    I forage a sell wild reishi and chaga mushrooms. Because of that fact I felt I should try them if I was going to sell them to other people and recommend them if asked. I started with chaga and found that I liked it as a tea and later as a dual extraction. I don't drink it every day but maybe three or four times a week. Reishi took a bit longer before I tried it but by then I'd learned so much about it and was getting into making dual extracts so I gave it a try. I've never had trouble sleeping except for being a light sleeper. I'd heard it helped with deeper sleep, more vivid dreams and more restfull sleep. Generally 7.5 hours of sleep was a good night and 6 was sufficient. Well a couple teaspoons of reishi extract and I have to make myself get up after 9 hours! The other day I logged 10 hours. I'm a 63 year old contractor and it's winter as I write this so it's my slow season and I really needed some down time. I pretty much work 6 days a week and had a vacation about 25 years ago so I'm not exactly a lazy person. The chaga seems to be giving me a energy boost as well. My foraging trips , which I consider my "day off" ,often consists of me carrying out a 50 pound (or more) pack of mushrooms. Chaga in winter often on snowshoes and in summer 90 degree reishi hunts. 10 years ago I remember getting winded go up stairs. Maybe its the excercise but I think it's the mushrooms as well. Sorrry for the long story but I thought somebody who needs hope might take heart. Oh I forgot to mention my bad back and a while back I was having trouble with both knees. No surgeries , no therapy, no doctors ( no money, no insurance, lol).

    Hi DR. Jessica , I've been using a double extract regularly and recently I experianced constant sinus drainage. I'd just seen my grandsons and they'd been ill and their mother came down ill after our meeting so I thought I was coming down with what they had. That was about 4 days ago now. Two days ago before foraging I took a dosage of dual extract and later realized the drainage ceased. This morning I tried fresh reishi tea. First time actually. I thought I'd tried it before but I think it was birch polypore. Which by the way, is quite horrible. Long story short , the tea was good. Quite pleasant and after a night of constant drainage the drainaged has all but ceased. 30 Minutes after ingest the reishi tea. Not to sound spooky but I had re-occuring dream/thoughts of using a hot water extraction to up the polysacharides intake. I say dream/thoughts because It wasn't a dream but those restless thoughts one gets while not quite asleep. I'm going to try using the tea more often to see if the sinus issues go away. As a side note I am prone to sinus headaches 2-3 times a month. Usually after a dusty day of work and since using more reishi I haven't used the sinus headache medicine in several months. My wifes been saying probably allegies but that's what she always says, lol.

      Oh how interesting. There might be something to the allergy theory. Reishi is thought to help block the TH2 response that is usually present during allergies

      @@JessicaNortonND Update. My sinus issue was causing irratation to my throat. A healthy dose of reishi would make it better for sevaral days then return after four or five day intervals. Last time I check my throat and found redness and some small white blotches on my tonsils. I'm now on ammoxicillin and getting better. My point which I find interesting is the large dose of reishi tea would almost fix it on it's own. I think if I maintained a heavy dosage over a longer period it would've taken care of it. By the way it's been very hot here and I work constuction. And I'm no spring chicken.

      Reishi has been used and researched for use in cancer. For personalized dosage i would recommend you talk with a local TCM practitioner or herbalist as it is often combined with other herbs and dosage is dependent on other medications as well

      I can attest that multiple menopausal women I know are drinking wild Reishi tea and having positive results. With all of it's body system modulating(balancing) effects and the nourishment it gives to the organs I find it hard to see how it would not be helpful.
      Dual extracted Reishi may even be better as it gets all the Ganodermic acids unique to the mushroom out and those have lots of science behind them regarding fighting breast cancer and other lymph cancers.

      It has a calming effect and helps with sleep so I'd give it a try. Full discloser ,I forage and sell wild reishi and dual extracts but use them myself as well. I would think changing your life would probably be a good step as well. Reishi helps with sleep quality too, but eating right and excercise can't be overlooked.

    Is it true that reishi can lower libido ?

    • @JessicaNortonND
      @JessicaNortonND  Рік тому +2

      long term use of 5 alpha reductase inhibitors (medications like finasteride) can lead to ED or decreased libido, and reishi has been used in some studies for its effects on 5 alpha reductase, however I would imagine that the dosage would need to be pretty high and the use longer term to see any type of effect like this.

Are we talking a single product with standardized components or are we mixing powders/capsules/raw herb. When we start to mix herbs we also need to take into account the synergistic effects (sometimes they compound and sometimes they buffer each other) Age/dosage and duration also need to be taken into account....This is why I try to give general guidelines in these videos and recommend you talk with your doc...because it can get very personal/complicated real quick! I find my libido increases after drinking wild Reishi tea. There is the "zen" affect and a vitalizing internal feeling for hours after followed by extra clarity and energy the next morning. Sounds funny but I've had spontaneous erections after drinking the tea, not something I've had since being a teen.
      My understanding is Reishi is a hormonal modulator so it will increase or decrease hormones according to the bodies needs. I know multiple menopausal women who have seen incredible positive results from using Reishi.
      Also consume and use wild Lion Mane's and I always get presented with this strange question about libido so my theory is it's 'dis'information trying to lead folks away from the most powerful neuro medicine which exists. Again ive never had any decrease in libido or ANY negative effects using medicinal mushrooms only endless benefits.
      Caveat though; I consume WILD fungi which I harvest myself so I cannot speak about "farmed" fungi or mycelium on grain products.
