Great video.....and I will say I LIKE Ruger a lot. I had an issue with a Ruger 10-22 carbine many years ago. I took it back to the dealer and they were going to replace it on the spot but I said ( I called and spoke with Cust. Service) "I will wait for Ruger to fix my gun"... Ruger shipped me a brand new gun (mine was only about 10 days in my possession) and they sent me an extra utility sling for my trouble. They did say my gun's barrel was "not right from the factory" and they thanked me for sending it back and for calling the issue to their attention. I have stuck by Ruger and will continue to do so. I love the LCP II ..... got to have one. Thanks for the posting and happy shooting!

I really appreciate Ruger customer service, too. I have had to send my LCP II in TWICE for repairs. The first time was because the pistol ejected the extractor while shooting at the range. I found the extractor spring and the extractor plunger amidst the sand and weeds at the range but never found the extractor itself (I looked for it on several different days at the range). I went through the procedures to send it to Ruger for repairs. It came back with a new slide assembly and a new barrel and 4 new problems not experience prior to the repair: (1) magazine would drop after every shot; (2) after racking the slide, it would fly forward when releasing the magazine; (3) no hold-open on last round half the time; (4) spent cartridges would fly over my head instead of to the right half the time. I am quite concerned about reliability in conjunction with self-defense. Again, customer service has been very courteous and concerned. I really do like the LCP II; just wish it worked.

Fighter4Street Call Ruger. They’re a good company with really good customer service but this gun sucks. After 2 bad guns they ended up sending my money back.
@@losoj30 I fixed my issue. The only thing you can do is install a Ruger LCP / LCP II Extra Power Mag Release Spring from mcarbo. I replaced mine and never had a dropped mag again. Before the spring, my mag would release every other shot. Don't waste your time with anything else, just buy this and replace the spring! Its a bit difficult with their video, but someone described an easier way on their forum. Let me know if you actually will get this thing!
Thanks for making this video. Mine lcp2 or has this problem, I thought it was the ammo. I am a new gun user. Maybe it’s the ammo I don’t know I bought a different kind to try. Good to know I can call Ruger if it doesn’t get resolved with the ammo.
I had the a few Failure to Eject and Stove Pipes in my 22 version. All I did was Buff the Barrel and it works fine. No problems since. Prior to doing that I did call Ruger and they said that would be one of the first things they would do. Ruger’s Customer Service is top notch. Ruger’s QC is not nearly as good as their Customer Service!
I just bought one yesterday and it looked good in the store. Got home and saw it under some different lights and the bluing is terrible and has a rust colored cast to it on the slide. The barrel hood looks good at first, but if you tilt it, part of it appears rust colored. I then noticed that the breech face had a nasty burr all around the firing pin hole with chips kinda smashed against the face from their test fire. I contacted Ruger within an hour of having it and they want it back at their factory for inspection. Im waiting until Monday to ship it so I can dry fire some more to break it in. Packages don't seem to move that much during shipping on the weekends.
I have had great luck with RUGER! They stand behind their products and have always bent over backwards to assist me. I have owned a few through the years and not one complaint.
Got my LCP II 12/19 went to the range twice to check it out. Both times the magazine released when the gun was fired. Couldn't get more than 3 or 4 shots before it would release. It happened with all three mags (one 6 round, two 7 round). Time and time again. Made double sure I wasn't hitting the mag release. I wasn't. I'll call Ruger in the morning (12/23). Hope I can get back soon.
I put about 150 rounds through mine with no issues at all. But last time at the range I had 4 failure to ejects and the spent casing would lodge between the barrel and the slide. The ejector doesn’t seem to positioned correctly which causes rounds to “tilt” a bit. Also, it seems the magazine catch is loose now which could be causing an issue. After watching your video, I may call Ruger to see if they will repair it. Thanks.
i NEVER purchased a pistol that NEEDED so much extra work to function correctly...UNTIL NOW ......everyone is hyping the POS pistol up. I spent the cash on ALL the aftermarket parts to fix ALL this issues Ruger should have address BEFORE releasing this POS. NOW its all about the ammo we use...SMH a 22LR Pistol that ONLY functions with certain 22lr ammo. priceless
Thanks for the information. I’ve never had problems with Ruger but I just bought the lcp2 and the same thing happened to me. I thought maybe it needed cleaned because it was new but now I know. Ruger is always top notch. American made.
If they know about this issue why not correct it in the first place? I bought one almost a year ago and I have not shot it at all, expecting it to be realiable for self defence that realy wasn't. We took it to the range today and found out about this issue, keept jaming and damaged dome rounds. Im going to give them a call see if they can do anything about it, almost a year later. I have my two nephews a lot and would like to know that i can defend them at any given time. Thanks for the review. I did notice when you put them side my side, the new slide looks thinner than the original. Both from the side and from the top when you put them next to each other.
my slide is similar, doesnt look like the older one you have. The extractor is closer to the edge, and I have three machine dots in the same location on yours. This was NIB as well.
Nice Video... I pocket carry the LCP II. I Like the pistol, but the round extraction is a little frustrating. You really gotta rack that slide back hard and fast to get the bullet out of there. Haven't had any firing issues with mine yet.
Mine has the same updated slide but my lcp 2 is nose diving on the first round . Do you have any idea what it can be. I will be replacing the guide rod and springs and magazine
hey after getting the new slide, was there still some play in the slide? I just bought an LCP II and my slide is loose and rattles even when theres a round in the chamber also with the mag in.
I bought one of these about a month ago, took it to the range, mag kept falling while firing. Went through about 100 rounds and about 50 of them resulted in the mag falling. I tried different grips, one handed two handed etc. and still had the problem occur. Contacted customer support, they said send it out. I sent it out, they said they fired 90 rounds through it and couldn't make it happen once. This leads me to believe that they know exactly what is causing the issue, a weak mag latch/spring and purposely shot it a certain way with that in mind so as not to replicate. They said they're sending it back and there's nothing they can do. I talked to the lady on the phone and said okay, so when I video tape this happening, and send it back again, then will you fix it because you and I both know what's wrong here. She said yes they would. That tells me right there they know exactly wtf is wrong but didn't want to address it.
Wayne thanks for the current update...I’m considering this gun but sounds to me like issues on newer purchases are getting worse...let me guess... was it made in NC?
@@bobatl4990 I wouldn't recommend it at all honestly. I'm thinking of filing down the mag latch pin to see if that helps but if not then I'll probably just destroy the gun to be honest. If it's not reliable, I dont want it and knowing that its not reliable, I couldnt sell it to someone else.
My Lcp 2 keeps dropping the magazine out when fired . And no I am absolutely not hitting the ejector button. Been shooting for thirty five years and sending this junk back. Second ruger I have issues with. They make great revolvers but I am starting to wonder about their autos.
I just saw a video on youtube addressing this problem, if you havent already figured it out. Has something to do with the little slot about half way up the magazine needing a slight mod. I like Glock pistols. But I have had three different LCPs and all have worked perfectly for me. I carry the LCP when I cant conceal my Glock. Over all I think they are pretty decent guns for the money. All of mine have shot excellent to. I think you will get it worked out hopefully.
@@luvbgrass Do you happen to remember the video? I just got this today and having issues with mag drops. I really like this gun but I can't CC it til it stops dropping the mag.
@@TheOutdoorExperience Im sorry. I dont remember the video right off. When I get a chance I will try and find it for you. If you find it first let me know so I dont search, lol. Best I remember it was a good video. I honestly havent had and issue at all with the three I have owned. Hope you get yours straightened out. EE
@@luvbgrass I have a possible theory after giving it a good look over. When I picked it up today, the only ammo they had in stock at the moment was Remington Golden Saber 102 grain. I'm suspecting that the fat tips and the little grooves on those could possibly be pushing against the lock as they cycle causing it to slip and eject the mag. I'm waiting on an order of Hornady Critical Defense and Geco to come in a couple days. I'll test that theory and see what happens.
@@luvbgrass I happen to come across another video showing a replacement mag release spring with slightly more tension. Practically have to strip the gun completely to get to it but reviews on this little spring are raving about it.
I’ve had mine for a year or so and I never even fired it , literally sat in the box but when I was getting ready to clean it and give it a once over before I took it to the range it fails to feed. When I first got it I never had that issue , should I Just clean it more thoroughly because of the factory gunk that’s left on it ?
@Howard Goldstein what I noticed with mine is that if after cleaning if I don't put the takedown pin back in the right spot it causes issues with guide rod.....n gun will have trouble feeding rounds
The Extractor flew off of the gun rendering this Firearm useless. Walked right off of the Range and bought a reliable firearm Glock 42. You can not depend your life on this Firearm .
How do u like it?? Footprint wise and all?? Not near as small as the lcp 2 tho huh?? I am really considering selling my lcp2 for a glock 42. Nothin but issues with this gun. My extractor is broken right now. Waiktng on parts from ruger. There customer service is top notch I will say that. But for personal defense. And carrying this gun all day everyday it scares me that ut could get me killed one day failing to feed or basically anything else that they have issues with.
Bought mine on a Friday, shot on Monday, 5 failure to feeds in first 50 rounds, called em and it’s shipping back tomorrow, we shall see, at least customer service is good.
Seriously? I would assume if you just bought an LCP2 today it wouldn't have this problem 2 years later? I just bought one and it seems fine but haven't done repetitive mag dumps yet! You just bought one with this problem?
The issue i have is the gun is loaded with a 5 in the magazine and one in the chamber. I reject the magazine. Pull the slide back to eject the round in the chamber and it gets stuck. The round looks somewhat turned a bit. It sounds like I need an extractor. Would you agree? Is that an issue you had?
My LCP II had failure to eject about every 15 rounds. Went back to R and they replaced barrel. Now failure to eject about every 25 rounds. Old or newer magazines. Most trouble with Fiocchi. Have NEVER had fail with ATOM C ammo. Very stout round. 1125 FPS 90g. Not marked plus P but sure feels like it. Ouch! Newer markings on slide.
Sounds like the slide spring was / is to stiff, causing the fte. As it worked better with higher power / more blow back round. Either manually working the slide or shooting should loosen up the spring?
Hi Hi-Po is your upgraded lcp 2 still ejecting live rounds correctly? I'm just curious bc I just bought one and is not ejecting on 3rd and 4th rounds. Oh and mine has the correctly updated stamp position and just one machined dimple or dot underneath the slide.
It could possibly be the ammo you are using. Is the round getting stuck in the ejection port? I didn’t have any problems after it was updated by Ruger. Are you using the Ruger mag or aftermarket? Possibly a weak spring in the mag? Just some thoughts. If you’re in doubt, call Ruger, their customer service is 5 star. If there is a problem, they will find it and fix it.
@@dpracing1 Hey! Thanks for getting back to me. Iv'e tried many different types of ammo. It's the original magazine from Ruger. I bought it yesterday from Cabela's. Their display model looked yours with the milled dots underneath the slide so I thought the one they sold me brand new would have them too. Come to find out mine only had one milled dot underneath the slide. I brought is back to them 5 hours later and they wouldn't exchange it. Guy told me just to shoot it and bring it back. On the 3rd to 4th round manually cycling the rounds get stuck.
Did they make you pay the transfer fee for getting it back? I sent my LCP in for the same issue and they said they couldn’t figure out what was wrong so they sent me a new one instead. But when i went to pick it up I had to pay the transfer fee which made me furious. You’d think they’d cover it since the product they made didn’t work properly in the first place smh
Since they replace it, it has a different serial number. That's why it had to be transferred. If it's just some replacement parts but original frame with original serial number it's not being transferred.
Just bought one today from Cabela's (after a price match). No idea when it was actually manufactured. It has all the stuff you pointed out on the new slide except mine has 5 dots. My guess is it was made slightly earlier than your updated one and they probably found something else to change by the time your's was done.
@@JackRainfield I brought in a print out of the web page of the store with the lower price. They will price match anyone that has it in stock within 100 miles. Same with Bass Pro since they are the same now.
The hammer is cocked about 90% of the way when loaded, so the trigger pushes the hammer the rest of the way back then releases it. If the hammer is somehow jolted from its 90% cocked position while the trigger is not being pulled, there is a half-cock notch that will catch it before it can hit the firing pin.
I just disassembled my lcp2 and I have the updated slide. It has the dot and the reason I checked the Ruger logo was lower on the slide. What else did they change? Because my has the same problem.
Sunday I ran 93 rounds through my new ll. First 50 Blazer Brass, no issues. Third round of first magazine of Federal Champion and I had a FTE. No other issues. I just opened my gun up and I have same mill dots. My logo is in same position as your dad's. Don't know what any of this will mean.
I purchased the LCP2 about a month ago and it ran fine through about 100 rounds but the last range trip was a disaster. Failure to extract, eject, failure to go into battery, failure to lock back on an empty mag, along with several double feed problems. Very disappointed that I have to contact Ruger to get it sent back. My other LCP (the unofficial generation two) ran fine.
I sent the gun back to Ruger and they had it back to me in 10 days. They replaced the barrel, slide assembly, slide stop & mag spring and it now runs perfectly. Great customer service.
Thanks! I tried to somewhat explain this in my vid at 7 minutes where you talk about ejecting by hand. My problem with this gun and the negative vids I watched seemed to be the round hanging in the chamber but maybe that wasn't the case based on your explanation! ua-cam.com/video/L9L9QVXXftQ/v-deo.html Excellent vid!
I just bought this gun and absolutely love it, by far my favorite carry. However, during the first 50 rounds, I had probably ~ 8 failure to ejects and the slide doesn't stay in the locked back position when the magazine is empty. I also had several failure to feeds. I'm going to put another 100 rounds through it tomorrow may give Ruger a call. Thanks for the vid. Be curious about your update
Yup. Me too. I need Lou Ferrigno to rack the fkr. Then had 4 or 5 miss feeds and jams through the first two mags. I'd been carrying it for 4 wks before I could get to the range. If I had gotten into a gunfight, I would be dead right now. Ok, some dink will ask why am I carrying a gun I've not tested at the range? I work, no time. Plus having been a combat engineer and fired everything the army has to offer up to our APC mounted ma deuce. And been shooting since birth - 53,, yrs old. I just figured if the time came I could handle the little bastard. If your going to make a gun specifically for personal self defense concealed carry I would think everything in hell and heaven would be done to make it reliable. Right ! Good job Ruger ! It should come with a warning " in case of a life or death emergency dont pull this out or you will certainly die. NOW GIT TO RUNNING FOREST "! I guess Kimber spoiled me - 45 acp w/5in barrel has never had a problem, not one. Except for the reason I bought this little POS. Shorts and a t-shirt days. The Kimber ( MAD LOVE ) well, I call her Bertha for a reason, she a little thick and heavy around the hips you know - for shorts. T-shirt, and bare feet days I just wanted something to put in my pocket and roll out. For the first time in my life I'm afraid of a gun, I'm afraid to carry that Ruger lpc 380. Donna - combat engineer ??? You caught that ? There are no females in 12" Bravo combat engineer mos. Why would they want to ? Donna is my mother, I'm using her tablet. I'm Paul her son - obviously. Well I'm off to find a time up kit for this little crapper, starting with the obvious - springs and trigger, followed by mad buffing the reef ramp.

Don't waste your time with anything else, just buy this and replace the spring!
Its a bit difficult with their video, but someone described an easier way on their forum.
Let me know if you actually will get this thing!
@@Fighter4Street thank you for your update
I never had an issue with either the LCP or LCP2
your kidding .
that has to be an alternative fact.....
Are you able to extract a unfired round without dropping the magazine?
They used to send an extra mag ,cleaning cloth, and mat, stickers and a ruger patch.
NOW its all about the ammo we use...SMH a 22LR Pistol that ONLY functions with certain 22lr ammo. priceless
Thanks for the good heads up info my friend! I have two of these lcp2’s. Both have been great!
Great gun...you just got a lemon.
Yep that's the extractor as far as I know you have the right term for that part.
Informative for me, thanks a lot..
My wife is having same issue with it jamming left and right and only firing a few rounds.
chaz speedy. Contact Ruger and then send it back.
my slide is similar, doesnt look like the older one you have. The extractor is closer to the edge, and I have three machine dots in the same location on yours. This was NIB as well.
Sovek sounds like yours is updated. Any issues while firing it ?
Very informative. Well done and way to go on your attention to detail.
Thanks, I need to make a follow up video though.
Dude, just get to the point.
Nice Video I'm going to buy a LCP 2 and I will look for the positioning of the Ruger stamp on the slide. I'll try to get one of the updated slides.
Wayne thanks Wayne...I’m curious if yours was made in North Carolina...the mfg seems flawed there.
@@bobatl4990 I just got home and took a look. Arizona is where mine came from.
Wayne thanks
Do you know if I can purchase the updated slide myself and swap it? I’d rather not deal with shipping the whole thing out.
Why pay for a slide when yheyll give u one for free within a week?? Ship it to them and get u a free one man. Why waste money
Because they charge you $45 for the shipping label.
I just sent mine in, no charge.
Jeremy S correct, still not back until tomorrow from ruger
Jammin, how is your lcp 2 doing since it was returned?
The issue i have is the gun is loaded with a 5 in the magazine and one in the chamber. I reject the magazine. Pull the slide back to eject the round in the chamber and it gets stuck. The round looks somewhat turned a bit. It sounds like I need an extractor. Would you agree? Is that an issue you had?
I have same issue but it's caused by not putting takedown pin back through in right spot will cause guide rod to move and rounds have trouble feeding
@@sifer5913 what is the right way to put in the tackedow pin?
I'm gald I bought this gun few week ago. Just recived 7 round mag with longer grip
Update?
My LCP II had failure to eject about every 15 rounds. Went back to R and they replaced barrel. Now failure to eject about every 25 rounds. Old or newer magazines. Most trouble with Fiocchi. Have NEVER had fail with ATOM C ammo. Very stout round. 1125 FPS 90g. Not marked plus P but sure feels like it. Ouch! Newer markings on slide.
just curious what you did with all the time you saved by not spelling "uger".
Sounds like the slide spring was / is to stiff, causing the fte. As it worked better with higher power / more blow back round. Either manually working the slide or shooting should loosen up the spring?
Trigger was stuck on mine out of the box. I'm not happy.
You need to read abiut "bullet setback" these small guns are sensitive to any change in bullet geometry ir grip.
Thanks, I didn't know about Cabela's price matching. Do you just show them a price on your cellphone?
@@JackRainfield I brought in a print out of the web page of the store with the lower price. They will price match anyone that has it in stock within 100 miles. Same with Bass Pro since they are the same now.
@@Gizmo42Rodeo Great! Thanks
Mine has 5 dots as well. Bought it from a friend. He bought it in 2017 tho
IS this LCP II safe to carry? Does it have a hammer block or something equivalent. Is it drop safe?
The hammer is cocked about 90% of the way when loaded, so the trigger pushes the hammer the rest of the way back then releases it. If the hammer is somehow jolted from its 90% cocked position while the trigger is not being pulled, there is a half-cock notch that will catch it before it can hit the firing pin.
I dropped mine five feet on my floor no issue hope this helps
I just disassembled my lcp2 and I have the updated slide. It has the dot and the reason I checked the Ruger logo was lower on the slide. What else did they change? Because my has the same problem.
Same with cleaning, so that stuff FALLS OUT , NOT SCRUB DIRT IN.
How easy is it to release the slide stop with your fingers using your left hand?
daniel hoover It’s stiff, but it works fine..
Thanks
Love the way you put that 👍🏼going to pick one up this weekend like what u talk about
We sent ours in. They did nothing.
What caliber?
Do you have any updates?
Sunday I ran 93 rounds through my new ll. First 50 Blazer Brass, no issues. Third round of first magazine of Federal Champion and I had a FTE. No other issues. I just opened my gun up and I have same mill dots. My logo is in same position as your dad's. Don't know what any of this will mean.
Dazed but not Confused
Gotcha🤔 when did you buy it ?
Last Friday. They cut my overtime so I took a day off and went and bought a gun. Showed them. eh?
I purchased the LCP2 about a month ago and it ran fine through about 100 rounds but the last range trip was a disaster. Failure to extract, eject, failure to go into battery, failure to lock back on an empty mag, along with several double feed problems. Very disappointed that I have to contact Ruger to get it sent back. My other LCP (the unofficial generation two) ran fine.
Sounds like it needs to be updated. When was it produced ?
Maybe this will help. I saw a bunch of vids with your same problem and I came up with a solution ua-cam.com/video/L9L9QVXXftQ/v-deo.html
Lincoln Hudson that’s the issue many had, including me. No more issues after the update from Ruger. 👍🏽
Lincoln Hudson and yes, I put 100 rounds through it already and no hang ups etc.
Lincoln Hudson update?
Yup.
My LCP (I) has issues..everyone knows...shot 50 rounds in my LCP II has no issues...I’ve. It heard anyone having issues..many experiences it was an early production run?...
Holy crap that took you forever to just say it. Damn dude.
Yep Ruger support is really good , nice folks 😁 🔫
What hollow points are you running through it? I hear some aren't that good.
daniel hoover I’ve used Hornady personal defense and Remington... no issues.
I returned mine. It was junk right out of the box.
The new slide seems thinner.
One more question. Did Ruger make you pay to ship to them or did they pay for shipping both ways?
daniel hoover once you contact them, they will email you and instruction pack and a shipping label. They paid shipping both ways on both of my pistols.
@@dpracing1 Thanks for the fast reply. People complain the trigger is dangerous because it's ready to fire if you have a round chambered. How's that any different than a Glock? LOL
daniel hoover true, lol. I keep mine in a pocket holster so the trigger is shielded.
The trigger is why I bought this pistol, the trigger feel is better than my modded G43. It’s very crisp. 👍🏽
They charged me $45 to ship it to them. Fuck Ruger.
Mine keeps jamming

NIce video! I just picked one up used and from your video I think mine might be the newer version. Could you affirm if mine is a newer or older serial number than yours. 3802812xx? Or can anyone tell from that number?
Well, I don't know if mine is the newer one or not but I've had zero issues with a couple hundred shots. No mag drops or FTF or anything else. I do wish I was a bit more accurate but that's mostly me needing practice.
