    I've been a Paramedic for the past 30 years and I can tell you from experience that a 22lr is a VERY deadly weapon at close range. A vast majority of the gun shot deaths I have worked have been with a 22lr.

    Thank you for this video. I'm a rape survivor, I was 16 at the time but I often wish I could've protected myself. I'm now at 42 getting my license to carry in Texas because I have daughters. I sort of want the .380 version but if the 22 is easy to carry I might go with that. The right to carry is a blessing when you're trying to protect yourself and your family. God bless you sir for this video.

      I’m sorry to hear that, as I get older I know more and more women with the same story. I have a 12 year old daughter myself, and it worries me as she’s developing.
      But, please be sure to train with it. Not just the range or backyard, but pay to get real training from someone with a good reputation. Don’t just keep it in your bedside table or in your purse and assume you’ll know what to do under distress. Things happen very very fast, everyone needs to have that muscle memory to try and be on auto-pilot as much as possible. This is the same advise to someone who’s been shooting guns for 30 years or 30min, myself included.

    As a board certified trauma surgeon, a 22 caliber pistol is a very deadly weapon.

    • @Vaille32
      @Vaille32 3 роки тому +34

      Indeed it is. The .22lr bullet tends to tumble and can strike the target sideways. They fragment and ricochet about inside the body rather than exiting like a larger calibre. Nothing like being internally shredded. I have no issue with the .22 calibre itself. It’s the unreliability of the rimfire cartridge that’s problematic. I modified my LCP II .22lr by changing out the springs and the trigger. Also installed a new grip. Works flawlessly now (it used to fail w/ some regularity, esp w/ CCI, Aguila, Remington, and Winchester loads) and I have no compunction against using it CCW alongside my 9mm, 38spl, and others. Now that I trust the gun to go bang if I need it to, I’ll carry it.

    • @timmlong1038
      @timmlong1038 3 роки тому +7

      I only carry a. 22 for concealment. Shot placement is critical, the deadly golden triangle, and under collar bone 1" inside shoulder, the soft area. My .22 Walther ppk/s is my favorite choice. The accuracy is fonomal, and good quality 36gr 1260 fps is a great choice for my ppk. Using Troy Landry / CCI is the most reliable for my ppk. This ammo works w/mine, it may not for you. Even though, it's finicky w/ammo, once you find what works best w/o jamming or other mishaps, then practice, practice, and keep practicing, and your muscle memory, will hit your target every time. With ten rounds, and one in the tube, makes for a deadly encounter for the bad person who may have a .380, 9mm, .40, and .45. He/she just has 1 shot, and a wild one at that. because he won't be able to re-center if held sideways. If held sideways, they weren't trained properly with HG'S. after he's shot his/hers wepon. Also, their skills are not to par with yours, and typically have a bullie mentally. After the assailant shoots, you and your tranning will have taken over and you will answer with persision shoots of 6-7x's with a .22 that will tear the bad person apart because of vary lettle recoil it possess. In my opinion, a .22 is the most underrated hand gun for self defense. It doesn't have the knockdown power as those metiond above, but as the Dr's. statement the tumble of a .22 can cause travel t/o the body before resting. NEVER underestimate the power of a .22 in capable hands.

    "It's better to have a good 22, than it is to not carry anything." That is an important statement that is lost on a lot of gun folks. If you consider the stats that many attacks are resolved simply by having a gun without firing a shot, this further strengthens the point. A well shot 22 won't win every battle, but it can provide a life-saving break in contact for a significant portion of them in a way that having no gun at all cannot.

      In NY displaying a firearm is called "Menacing with a firearm". Will put you in jail. A cop friend of mine saved the life of an assault victim. Was investigated by the Police Department and furthermore dragged into Court because the assailant said he did not identify himself even though no shots were fired. Btw, the perp at the time was chasing him around a car til the cops got there.

    • @theearstohear
      @theearstohear 3 роки тому +5

      It is certainly true that there are many gun laws that can put those who carry in a bind if they ever opt to draw a weapon in self defense. Such laws are so wacky, in some instances, that it might be LEGALLY advisable to draw and shoot, even if shooting proved unnecessary in the mind of the shooter between the time of the draw and the trigger pull, rather than to draw and NOT shoot. The former action might improve one's legal case by sustaining the classic "I was in fear for my life, I had to shoot" defense, whereas the latter might give the appearance of "I was in fear for my life, but I didn't have to shoot" which in turn might expose one to the accusation of unnecessary brandishing or menacing. Those are tricky issues that likely prove difficult to navigate in the moment.
      All that said, many immediate threats are resolved IN THE MOMENT by having a gun. The AFTER THE MOMENT, secondary, legal threats, however, are usually not resolved but complicated by having a gun regardless of whether it is drawn and not-fired or drawn and fired. I guess that goes back to the old adage: "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6." The prospect of finding yourself in a legal bind over drawing but not shooting, when in all candor that was the RIGHT thing to do and should be perfectly legal under the 2A, is not pleasant given the rabidly anti-gun sentiment that exists in many parts of the US today. There are many who believe that simply carrying a firearm is an act of terrorism, rather than a constitutional right, and I'm sure they're eager to punish anyone they can, given the opportunity.
      Thanks for the good comment. There are multiple layers of risk to consider when it comes to exercising 2A liberty in the USA today.

    I just bought this hand gun for my daughter who has been out of college and on her own now for 3 years. She is very petite with small hands. She danced all thorugh high school and college and made her way on to the Dallas Mavericks dance team. She was always the smallest female on most of dance teams. She now teaches dance at a high in Texas. Well any way I bought her the Taurus PT 22lr because of the flip up barrel and double action only tigger. Well it jammed every magazine and I end up sending it back to Taurus for a new one. I lost all confidence in the firearm and decided to go with the this Ruger Lcp 22lr. The Ruger is far superior than the Taurus pt 22lr. I took the Ruger to test fire and guys it did not mis a beat out of 100rds of five different types of ammo from lead hollow point,cooper plated hollow points ' round nose, cci, federal, aguilar, all different velocity. It fired exactly like the LCP in this video........it is quality built firearm and very reliable. Get one guys

After failing to get in a window, he tried to get through our locked back door. Mom hollered, "I have a gun !". He ignored her warning and kept pushing the door. Mom fired one round through the door. That's all it took to change his mind. We ran next door and Mom called the cops. After listening to her story and looking at the bullet hole in our door, the cops said "Good job. I bought a LCP in .380 a few years ago and after time I sold it to a neighbor .. it was a difficult gun to shoot .. and besides recoil I got a lot of trigger slap. I just purchased the .22 version .. I had an idea that this might shoot better than the .380 and I was right. Very easy to shoot and great accuracy for such a tiny gun. I can draw and fire 10 rounds faster and more accurately then my two carry .9mm's.

    Sometimes you have to carry a 22. In my last job, I used to go into abandoned houses to review them structurally. We worked in a decent sized urban area. Many of these houses had junkies and meth heads squatting in them. My organization didn't technically allow employees to carry guns. After a coworker got robbed by a meth head I decided that I was gonna carry. All my boss said was, "Make sure you get a really small gun. If anyone else notices that you're carrying, I'll need to fire you." I bought a 22, and it became my best friend. Went into all the dangerous houses with me.

    Its a fun plinker, and I say good backup gun. Mine does have issue shooting the "Self Defense" type rounds on occasion. Federal Punch which has the 1000+FPS velocity on paper matches well because that velocity is measured with a 2" barrel length. But the gun itself has come issues with the flat nose vs round nose ammo. With that, even as a back up, a few CCI Mini-Mags or Aguila High Velocity, which mine shoots both flawlessly, hopefully would give enough break time to get away.

    Love the Ruger Security 9 model...Ruger is a great gun maker often overlooked in reviews. The .22 seems like it would be a great one for my wife (who is not into guns but could use one), and I may look into a small .380 as the 9 is a bit on the large side when concealing.

    It would be interesting to see a gel test of such a pistol performed at about 2 to 3 yards including a mag dump. Perhaps even with a string or two fired from the 'hip' / 'belly gun' mode. Not that I would recommend that. But if close in you may not get chance to obtain a good stance. It would be interesting to see a 5 shot to 10 shot string fired with the pistol next to the gel block too; 'get off me' mode as it were.

      I tried that at the range last week...shooting from the hip at 10 feet half of the rounds didn't even hit the paper...! I am going to think about this, and try again at next range visit...and use a regular sized target instead of the small target...

    No red dot cut??? How do I mount my Streamlight on it? Is there a bayonet adapter? M203 attach points? Come on Roger!

      Probably switch out the trigger guard for a red dot, but surprised it didn't launch with that. They should know better by now ;p Now where's the double barrel / double mag variant!

    Some may be asking why would want to use this caliber as a self-defense round. There are plenty of other rounds out there that are affordable, capable, and accessible for self-defense. The main reason someone would choose it is for the low recoil. While rare, many people lack the strength to effectively handle even a .380 ACP. Concealed carriers owe it to themselves to be as well-armed as physically possible and while most are able to carry a caliber more substantial than .22 LR, some simply can’t. Ammunition in this caliber is super cheap, so you can get in a lot of training for very little money - which is good because you'll need to be well-skilled if you're using it for self-defense. While you should practice proper shot placement with every caliber, with .22 LR, you already behind the power curve.
    In addition, firearms chambered in this caliber have hardly any recoil. Even when fired from the smallest guns on the market, the .22 LR is seriously easy to control. Since this caliber is easy to handle, it also makes getting quick, accurate follow-up shots easier, too. Having a gun that's easy to shoot effectively can be a huge deal, especially for a new shooter. The most significant disadvantage of .22LR for self-defense is the rimfire system. Rimfire rounds tend to be less reliable than centerfire rounds. A round failing to ignite can be a significant issue. The second issue that most .22 LR fails to expand when they strike a soft target and can have penetration issues. You’ll need premium grade ammo for defensive purposes for your .22 LR. I strongly recommend the CCI Velocitor copper plated hollow point it's the fastest most accurate 40 grain hollow point on the market , It's velocity is 1435 fps it Hits hard penetrates deep and leaves a significant wound channel. I think 4 shots into the torso and 1 shot to the head or neck in close quarters would render an attacker totally incapacitated if it don't put a few more shots into them .
    I carry the Ruger LCP .22LR Pistol as my EDC back up .I trust it if needed ,I am confident multiple .22 LR shots into the head neck torso or below the belt line will stop an attacker dead in their tracks. The Heart Lungs Liver Spleen & Spine, Stomach major arteries all reside in the Torso .The Neck the Juggler vein , Throat Spine reside there .The Head the brain and brain stem reside there . At close quarters the .22lr Hand gun is deadly when multiple shots strike these areas.

      Hey brother I can really appreciate your perspective on the LCP .22LR being a self defense option for some who are limited in experience or physical limitations. This happens to be the case with my doughter. She is very petite in statue and has no firearm experience. She is out of college and moved away on her own 3hrs away. We both decided that it was time to get a firearm and training. She asked me to pick out the firearm best suited for her to start with. At first we tried the Taurus pt22 poly. I never gained any confidence in the firearm its self because of reliability issues. Although I never lost confidence in .22lr being able to get the job done. I just needed to find a reliable and practical (tactical) firearm for her lifestyle. So after seen the LCP .22LR lite rack at a gun show and viewing this video......I decided that this little fellow will be her new companion. After taking it for a test run I was even more impressed. 100rd of 5 difference types of ammo and no failures at all. I have not decided on what rounds she should carry in it but leaning towards CCI mini mags round nose 40g or Aguila 38g hollow points. After your post now I'm also considering CCI velocitors. So with that said, I am very confident that the Ruger LCP in .22lr along with some training will get the job done. 11rd of .22lr and the reliability of this firearm makes a lot of sense to me. Like you said, 3 or 4 .22lr rounds to the torso and along with 11 chances to get 3 or 4 on target in a stressful situation. Makes my job easy..........point and pull the trigger until empty if needed.
