Good Morning LCNs!
Awesome videos and great info and thanks again for all the great giveaways
Love listening to your shows. Keep up the good work man.
thanks bro.
Always love the content!!!
thanks bro!
LCN, you always make me laugh!!! 👍👍🤣
I am so glad you spoke about mowing the grass. I was just telling myself yesterday, I have to mow it!
Go, enjoy the mow!!!!! 😇
@@Thelawncarenut and go get the shirt. I wear it loud and proud weekly! Gift from the wife. She knows me all too well!
I’m smelling what you are stepping in Allyn! I just have to say your podcast is so well done, so informative. If there are awards for You Tube podcasts you deserve to get one!!!
thanks bro! I enjoy trying to bring a totally different angle to things for sure.
Just did my fall overseeding here in Michigan about a week ago. Driving myself nuts not mowing it, but fortunately going on vacation for 5 days so I dont have to look at it teasing me. Trying to give it at least 2 weeks.
thanks aiiyn for the tips.first fall seeding coming up.
Thrower down and have fun.
Good Morning y’all
Good movie bro going seed next week here in wv
Hey just wanted to say thanks for all the advice and info. Your videos are more then lawn care they apply to life as well. Only a man of God could speak in this fashion.
A calling is a calling for sure. I did my best to mess it up and run from it when I was younger and now it's developed into this. Pretty cool.
We were just talking at church last week about the difference between peace keepers and peace makers. Thank you for teaching in such a universal way. I would vote you for President of UA-cams
I do like to preach. 👊
Bermuda for the win!
Hey Allyn,
Love all the content and thanks for all you do. I aerate and overseed every fall, but my question is this....do you recommend just digging out Poa annua vs chemical treatments? Thanks to you and this community, my lawn is super thick and deep green, but i do get some small clumps of poa annua that i pull in the spring and reseed those spots. Kinda curious on this one. Thanks!
Every other week isn't that bad with all the work you have to put into it Allyn
As a homeowner who loves to take care of my lawn -I have benefitted greatly from your videos.Thank you for taking time to do these and your other you tube channel. This one has helped me set my priorities for my lawn. I am on your mailing list now. Thank you Allyn
awesome! great to hear.
1st comment, love your videos!
thank you!
It may have been discontinued but for decades Lebanon's Tupersan (Siduron) 4.6% was the only granular stand alone (no fert) pre-emergent that could be applied at time of seeding. In addition to crabgrass control it was effective on Foxtail, Downy Brome, and Barnyard-grass plus safe for most grasses except Bermuda. It was the go-to product for spring seeding.
yes thanks for the reminder of this one - used it way back at TG. I have not heard of it lately though.
I had my lawn aerated & dethatched this week and will have top dressing and overseeding done next Monday. (The top dressing will be a blend of leaf compost and Com-Til (Com-Til is a composted bio-solid product from Columbus, OH). The seed is a Seed Superstore blend of mostly KBG and will be applied using a slit seeder. We will be using XStart starter fert and Tenacity at the time of seeding.
What do you think about applying a pre-emergent (prodiamine or Dithiopyr) a month or so after the reseeding? My thinking is that the KBG seed should be germinated by then, and the pre em might stop some Poa Annua from germinating.
What is the best way to get Bermuda out of a cool season lawn? Is there anything that will just target Bermuda or should I toss in the towel and let the Bermuda have the lawn? I have been lowering the HOC in preparation for overseeding and the lower I go the more stolons I find. I'm fast approaching my overseeding window and not sure what I can do at this point.
Wouldnt the mulch create a barrier against grass growth just like mulch helps a little with weed prevention?
Extrapolate - extend the application of (a method or conclusion, especially one based on statistics) to an unknown situation by assuming that existing trends will continue or similar methods will be applicable.
For those of you (like me) who didn’t know 😂😂
Lawn care....this is humorous! You should work in the Whitehouse.
Cant wait for the end result of aerating n overseeding. Cause right now after dethatching and cutting lower, my lawn be lookin lika crapola.
the struggle is real
Thermo diet says no Kale. No PUFA’s, preservatives, soy, grain, and only grass fed beef, open range chicken. No steroids or antibiotics in the beef.
Lol. You knew someone was gunna say something about the Kale.
Good perspective on the different view points. I agree 100%.
I hope everything went well with the hurricane.
ha ha yes for sure! how any people are actually on this Thermo diet? 😂 Is that the same one as that dude who was on Joe Rogan who only eats red meat?
Lol 😂No, vegetables aren’t necessary in this diet but it’s mostly eating quality meat and potatoes and if you do eat veggies ones that have no gmos or sprayed with pesticides. They’re looking for optimal hormonal health. For men, high testosterone etc. There’s a couple thousand in the group I’m in. It’s pretty good stuff!
Hello Allyn. Thanks for the info you provide. I do have a question. After reading the email you sent pertaining to this episode it leaves me confused.
1st there was nothing there as an example for those who are seeding. Please elaborate on that. You may say see the guide and that would be a good point. However not sure that things like XStart came out yet and the best plan of action in using it. Again you may say it’s simple apply at seeding and according to your website you recommend a second application 14 days later.
Here is why I say what I did above. In your email you highlight the importance of 2 of 3 macros in a fert. That being “N” & “K”. Nothing is mentioned about Pho’s “P”. I do realize that some areas in the country may have restrictions here and you may be speaking to the general group of folks across the Country.
Why is this a concern or question? Well in this area of lawn care. There are several folks we all listen to that say things. For example the great folks at Carbon Earth. Their XStart is high in “P” and low in both items you highlight here as what’s important. You leave out “P”. We’re told by some that “P” is very important in seed germination and quick root development. Even basic starter ferts give more weight to “P” than “N” & “K”. Now most starter ferts give larger doses of all 3 macros. Carbon earth however give less “N” and even less “K” but keep the “P” at 24 like Mose starters. They seem to give more attention to “P” and lower both the others. One they say is because less nitrogen will keep the mature turf from growing to fast while it gives time for new grasslings to mature and catch up so when first cut comes a couple weeks later the mature grass wasn’t pushed to fast. Secondly they seem to feel that potassium can interfere with Pho’s or something to that effect.
So in terms of what’s important this seems to go the opposite of what your saying here in he email. Now I will admit I did not watch this episode yet and I am referring to your email specifically. I get it that if your not over-seeding, what you said makes perfect sense. However to rule out confusion how does one handle fall seeding with less “K” in this XStart fertilizer without compromising the reason they dropped the “k” as low as they did?
Is there something missing? Are we all suppose to be applying an application of “K” alone a few weeks prior to seeding to boost “K” prior to seeding so as to not overly interfere with their starter fert (XSTART)?
Basically trying to understand this flip flop issue that one says one thing and another says another of what’s important to do.
Please accept my thanks for all the work you put into helping us all out and please see my sincere question in a spirit of desperation to get a better understanding of what we need to do. After all I have a few yards that I am struggling to get their deficient potassium levels to raise, however the only way I know to do that is to add supplemental doses of “K” during the year. However going into seeding soon with XStart will not give that type of boost or shot of “K” since it’s lower in their product. So this is not going to be a larger dose of “K”. This means we would need to add it another way but then we would need to know when it’s best to do that. Anyway thanks for your time.
Hey Allyn this is James S. Thanks for answering my reseeding and pre-emergent questions. I've decided to go this fall with pre-emergent and in the spring, pre-emergent again. Then next fall I'll make the determination whether to once again go with pre-emergent or overseed and mechanically aerate. I am considering N-EXT's AIR-8 but I'm a little timid on liquid mixes. Only one question here. Would you use AIR-8 before or after SUNNILAND's pre-emergent? Thanks again.
Air8 will not interfere with Lee emergent so all good there. Easy to apply via hose end sprayer and no need to be concerned if you mis-measure, it won't hurt anything . Go for it.
@@LawnsAcrossAmerica ......Thank you
Regarding ruts and the amount of rain water from a roof, a 1000 sq ft roof puts out 623 gallons of water for 1 inch of rain. Add that to patios, driveways, sidewalks and other impervious surfaces and the amount of runoff is pretty mind blowing.
It's Fall y'all!!!!!
As someone who exercises regularly the analogies used here really hit home. What sucks is that my backyard still looks like 💩. I’m convinced my soil sucks... 😔.
There is no bad soil, only hurting soil. 😎

@@LawnsAcrossAmerica no problem bud, while I don't have a lawn or house right now ( I live in an apartment) I'm listening to your podcast and watching your UA-cam episodes and absorbing as much as I can so that I can have a great lawn. Thank you again 🤙🍻
You said 1.5 lbs of Nitrogen per 1000 sq ft, how much 5-3-8 organic fertilazer should I put prior to oversiding. Thanks
be tough to get there with that fert so use what you have at 10lbs/1000 and then pick something else and drop that on top to round it out. CarbonX would be a good choice
Hi Allyn can Carbon X be used as a starter fertilizer?
Yes sure can. Keep it to 3-4lbs/1000
Lawns Across America great thanks for the reply!
22" Al . Size matters! 🤣
Why do we only need x-start and nothing else? A full app of x-start only has .25 lbs nitrogen. How come x-start doesn’t need the 1.5 lbs?
It's the super high Phos that matters in xstart, as well as the micros and humic. It's a Matt Martin creation that is fully complete where all the elements work together - adding other stuff could interfere with that. Plus, only using the xstart is cheaper than adding other un-needed stuff. Lastly, we recommend 2 apps. one at seeding, another about 10-12 days later.
In before Connor
he must actually be putting in work today 😎
