I think this is probably one of those products that will have a massive price drop in the future. It's also very common to see this on the cheaper phones' market, they are always released at a really high price that doesn't really make that much sense, but it quickly drops to be in line with the price of the older models, but with some technological advancement that actually makes it worth it.
I just don't understand why the performance gap between the two is so big even though they still share the same 3050 name. But I think the 6gb model consuming about half the power and running also 10°c colder is a really good thing.

I have been wanting this video for a long time, but for some reason I could never find a direct comparison.
That's crazy because it was literally the main comparison I was interested in, like of course it makes sense to test it against something at a closer price point, but we already know the 6gb is going to be a massive disappointment anyways, so why not at least makethe comparison mildly entertaining.
If you actually want a 3050 6gb you have an incredibly specific usefase in mind, and there's probably only two cards even worth thinking about for it, (This and the A380 meet some very specific "board powered, very limited implementation of modern technology" card niche) so there really isn't much point in comparing it on a price/performance level where it will lose to the vast majority of other cards.

The big thing about this is that it smokes the previous reigning champion budget low profile graphics card the GTX 1650. It also smokes it's closest low profile competitor the RX 6400. It also trades blows with the previous full on full stop champ of low profile no aux power the A2000. And though the A4000 smokes it, the A4000 is also like $800. And the 4060 requires aux power and is more than twice the price. The niche is small but it is here for the 6gb 3050.

Massive props for making this video as a way of keeping folks informed. The original 3050 was laughably bad given the sort of prices being asked for them, even without considering the AMD competitors which aside from being cheaper would literally smoke the 3050. It's one thing to have a 1050 Ti in the same ballpark price of something like a RX570 despite the latter also outperforming the former but those GPUs coexisted in an age were GPU pricing wasn't as outrageous as we've currently seen. The original 3050 without being gimped and having the VRAM buffer cutdown was bad enough, imagine having a gimped version of an already meh product... If the original 3050 was a 180 dollar card it would actually have been decent, oddly enough. But Nvidia being Nvidia that was never going to happen.

Low power GPUs are luxury items, at least on what I see after all of these years of GPU releases. 1650 didn't have the best price for a low power GPU when it initially launched. 1050 Ti was the last best low power at launch and idk why they didn't follow up its success.

Both AMD and nvidia seem really eager to f*** over the budget gamers these last 2 years. Ever since the scalpocalypse ended, both companies have made a point of releasing confusingly named (more than usual) budget products with worse specs than the older models.
Battlemage is sorely needed to shake up the market, because it's almost like both companies are in a price fixing scheme, where neither of them offer good midrange or budget products that are new.

    G'day Random,
After seeing the first few comparisons with the Difference at least 15% to exceeding 20%, how confusing it is now as some retailers are not highlighting the 6GB in the title & will be on the 2nd Hand Market in the future for the same reason, I too was thinking as it is too late to change the 8GB to 3050Ti this should have been a RTX3040/3040Ti.
Don't know why the nVIDIA Naming Team didn't go with 3050Ti for the Higher Cuda Count 8GB at launch as the 3050 OEM had the same Cuda count as this 6GB & they were launched on the same day.

I mean, its cool that the 6GB 3050 can do as well as it does considering the power limit, 6GB of VRAM and cut down chip, but it is in poor taste to ask so much for so little in return. This to me seems like a lazy and overpriced attempt to sell of chips that may have been defective or something. They shouldn't have even called it a RTX 3050, it should have been renamed to RTX 3040 or something because, it isn't a 3050. To some, a few FPS here and there off all of the averages and lows may not seem like a lot, but with so few FPS as it is in many games, literally every single FPS can matter, making the difference between a smooth gaming experience or a choppy mess. And this is just more reason why I continue to buy mostly used PC hardware, because I can look at what hardware there is and the state of the latest drivers before making a choice on what to buy. Or, I just buy my roommate's used parts as it usually goes, I have never been disappointed.

The only scenario when getting 3050 6GB makes sense is if you are upgrading old office PC, so you could "game" on it, or if you are making small ITX build that does have low power budget (example: has external laptop psu etc). Power supply only from PCIe slot with no other power connectors is the only reason one would want to buy this GPU, cuz it is still better than AMD APUs, especially if you compare APU + Expensive fast RAM vs CPU + 3050 GPU. Also, this GPU only makes sense in Low Profile variant.

If the price was right, it would make sense as an upgrade for my old Dell workstation that doesn't have any GPU power connectors, currently using a GTX 1650. Budget AMD cards don't use all the PCI lanes so they're no good in older systems and Intel more or less requires resizeable bar so I can't use them either. My daughters just got into Minecraft so I can see 1080p with ray tracing and some DLSS working nicely there. I got my 1650 from CeX for around £80 so it's gonna be a while before the upgrade becomes worth it.

To me the 3050 6G only makes sense in two scenarios: with the Palit KalmX version so you have a totally quiet card or with low-power PCs you can use the 6G model without additional PCIe power.
I'd still have preferred a name like 3040. It wouldn't have been the first x40-class card.
The 3050 6G is pretty impressive when it comes to efficiency though. You're losing about 20% of the performance but the power consumption is falling much more.

Small note: Keep in mind that the 6G version only gets its power via the PCI-E, and the 8GB needs a 1x8Pin power connector. This means that the maximum power consumption also increases from 70 to 130 watts. That's 100% more power for 10-15fps more. For me the 6GB version is more interesting, just because of the power consumption...

Can you compare these 2 3050’s vs the RTX 2060 in War Thunder at 1440p Maximum preset? I had an RTX 2070 laptop that was more akin to a Desktop 2060 in performance. When I was having no issues before the GPU died after 3 years of daily gaming at 95°C, I could easily run 1440p with frame rates between 80-120 FPS. I’d assume both 3050’s would run War Thunder at the same preset at 120+ FPS.
