With those power constraints they could have just made a much cheaper, more cut down 3030 or something with a higher clock that would have achieved the same performance. They must have had awful yields and this was the only way to slough off the trash. GA107-325 has the identical core configuration as the 8GB GA106-150 OEM model, but about half the TDP and 400Mhz lower clock speed.
I was expecting pretty bad performance from 3050 6gb version but here I saw your vide ,that makes me super lucky owning it anyways ...I upgraded to 3050 6gb from a 1050ti 😊
The only time a 3050 is worth it is if it’s below $150. I scored a Gaming X 8GB version off the local market for $130, box and all, barely used, and it’s in my friend’s rig who uses a 1080p 75Hz monitor and does some light production work.
The most ridiculous part of these "budget" cards is that you can't even use them to spruce up your old desktops. The reduced lanes will cripple the card in an older PCIe slot.
The 6GB card's performance is unbelievably good, considering it's running on Motherboard-provided power only. The 8 GB card is not performing good enough, considering it is drawing nearly double the power of the 6GB one.
My local university surplus is selling Dell Optiplex with 8th and 9th i5s in them. The 3050 6gb would make for a perfect budget build with one of them.
Congrats for one of the best gaming content on UA-cam, specially coming from a brazilian, which resides on a dreadful market. You always have the most realistic and best analysis on budget components, without spitting shit about cheaper parts, but bringing the best performance per money results. Really helpful!
Good performance per watt, which also means less heat. Could see a 3050 6gb make a bit of sense in a 4 liter tiny sff case if you need things quiet. That said, I'm much more happy with my 4060 performance in one of those, and just use some headphones if I'm playing something where I am bothered by the moderate fan noise.
Ever do any voltage tuning? I wonder if a good undervolt on the 8 GB card could make it as thrifty as the 6 GB card without a loss in frames per second. Might help somebody with a sketchy GPU power adapter setup.
Nice to see how well it handles Fallout 4. What a difference in performance compared to Starfield. I haven’t seen the new show since I don’t have Prime but I’ve been a fan of Fallout since 3 and have Fallout posters on my wall in my gaming room.
You should test this vs a low tdp 1650 to show the performance bump for the folk this is actually useful for. Also maybe give an idea of what the baseline cpu would bevto pair with this.
It'd be interesting to see how this compares to other cards which don't require supplemental power. The newer 3050 seems like a good pick for an office prebuilt with a dodgy power supply upgrade.
I remember when the GTX 1050 and 1050 ti we're around still. Exceptional cards and for a pretty cheap price. Now a days you have so many cards with the largest range of pricing options available, it makes you wonder why bother with 50 cards anymore and go strictly 60 and up. Not saying there isn't a place for these cards but when you consider you can get the 3060 and 4060 for $300 or a little more it makes you wonder.
I wonder what will happen if you lower the TDP of the 3050/8 to match the value of the 6-gig card? And perhaps also apply some undervolting. I suppose, the older model should still win though, due to higher core count and memory bandwidth
It's aimed at the higher powered ex-business PCs and the Acer Aspire XC range of PCs. It'd be a reasonable upgrade from a GTX 1650 LP 4Gb, like the one I have in an XC 885. I can run Train Sim World 4 @1440p with ~40fps so it's not yet obsolete.
Wasn’t the 1660 Super $230 at release 5 years ago? Kind of wild that we basically haven’t gotten any improvement in this price tier this whole time from nvidia.
This GPU should be priced to replace the GT710 with a small price premium at around $99USD or similar imo. These should also be either ITX or low profile itx gpus as well.
I have both 3050's in ASUS dual fan guise. The 6gb I have paired with a Ryzen 5 1600 and it works very well. However, what I did notice is the sound coming from the card. It's louder than the 8gb, to the point that I've used MSI Afterburner to reduce the fan speed from 68% to 30-40%. Did you notice any differences in card noise?
That would depend on which manufacturer your card is. Different AIB manufacturers have choice of different fans, with various levels of "coil whine" He has a palit card and an Asus card. If you don't have those exact same cards, then comparing them with his cards is pointless. Different OEMs put different parts in their products. You can't just compare the 3050 8gb with the 3050 6gb unless your cards are from the same manufacturer.
no way i have 3050 8gb vram asus daul and its good i dont think 3050 6gb is good for gaming high graphics card its like gtx 1650 ti same as rtx 3050 6gb
I need to examine the pricing. I'd need to see the prices to gauge the pro/con. There is a whole bunch of room for cheap mid range cards to fill if done right.
There are a few laptops that I was interested in. They have RTX 2050 or RTX 3050, both have less ram at 4Gb. Could you consider making a video where the ram usage is less than 4GB?
I’d like to see a comparison with the rx 6400 because that card also doesn’t use any external PCIe supplemental power and just runs off the 75 watts from the motherboard slot.
I think this is probably one of those products that will have a massive price drop in the future. It's also very common to see this on the cheaper phones' market, they are always released at a really high price that doesn't really make that much sense, but it quickly drops to be in line with the price of the older models, but with some technological advancement that actually makes it worth it. I just don't understand why the performance gap between the two is so big even though they still share the same 3050 name. But I think the 6gb model consuming about half the power and running also 10°c colder is a really good thing.
I'm guessing this is more like what the 750ti(the later pci-e powered only version) was to the 1000 series than it is a to a (non pci-e powered) 1050ti? Is their a 1050ti equivalent in the 3000 or 4000 series? I can't think of a more powerful 3000 or 4000 only pci-e powered GPU 🤔
I have been wanting this video for a long time, but for some reason I could never find a direct comparison. That's crazy because it was literally the main comparison I was interested in, like of course it makes sense to test it against something at a closer price point, but we already know the 6gb is going to be a massive disappointment anyways, so why not at least makethe comparison mildly entertaining. If you actually want a 3050 6gb you have an incredibly specific usefase in mind, and there's probably only two cards even worth thinking about for it, (This and the A380 meet some very specific "board powered, very limited implementation of modern technology" card niche) so there really isn't much point in comparing it on a price/performance level where it will lose to the vast majority of other cards.
The big thing about this is that it smokes the previous reigning champion budget low profile graphics card the GTX 1650. It also smokes it's closest low profile competitor the RX 6400. It also trades blows with the previous full on full stop champ of low profile no aux power the A2000. And though the A4000 smokes it, the A4000 is also like $800. And the 4060 requires aux power and is more than twice the price. The niche is small but it is here for the 6gb 3050.
Massive props for making this video as a way of keeping folks informed. The original 3050 was laughably bad given the sort of prices being asked for them, even without considering the AMD competitors which aside from being cheaper would literally smoke the 3050. It's one thing to have a 1050 Ti in the same ballpark price of something like a RX570 despite the latter also outperforming the former but those GPUs coexisted in an age were GPU pricing wasn't as outrageous as we've currently seen. The original 3050 without being gimped and having the VRAM buffer cutdown was bad enough, imagine having a gimped version of an already meh product... If the original 3050 was a 180 dollar card it would actually have been decent, oddly enough. But Nvidia being Nvidia that was never going to happen.
Low power GPUs are luxury items, at least on what I see after all of these years of GPU releases. 1650 didn't have the best price for a low power GPU when it initially launched. 1050 Ti was the last best low power at launch and idk why they didn't follow up its success.
Both AMD and nvidia seem really eager to f*** over the budget gamers these last 2 years. Ever since the scalpocalypse ended, both companies have made a point of releasing confusingly named (more than usual) budget products with worse specs than the older models. Battlemage is sorely needed to shake up the market, because it's almost like both companies are in a price fixing scheme, where neither of them offer good midrange or budget products that are new.
AMD users always pissed off Nvidia and non-stop criticizing them. I really don't like any fanboys that just trolling and criticizng both professional users and normal PC users that doesn't know about computer stuff.
Power limits. The 6 GB tops at like 70W while the 8GB goes past 120W. No more juice left. If my 3060 is anything to go by, it should boost a bit higher with a well set undervolt and come closer to the 8GB version.
G'day Random, After seeing the first few comparisons with the Difference at least 15% to exceeding 20%, how confusing it is now as some retailers are not highlighting the 6GB in the title & will be on the 2nd Hand Market in the future for the same reason, I too was thinking as it is too late to change the 8GB to 3050Ti this should have been a RTX3040/3040Ti. Don't know why the nVIDIA Naming Team didn't go with 3050Ti for the Higher Cuda Count 8GB at launch as the 3050 OEM had the same Cuda count as this 6GB & they were launched on the same day.
I owned gtx 1060 3GB from 2018 to late 2023, and it wasn't that bad compared to 1060 6GB at launch and till long time till games became vram hungry more and more, but was good enough for 230$ when crypto made all other gpus price hike back then, but today its bad overall in this same naming gpus (btw i still have 1060 3GB collecting dust, only keeping it for troubleshooting if something happens to my 6700 XT cause now my ryzen cpu doesn't have igpu)
They remind me of the 1060 6gb and the 1060 3gb. I lucked out and scored a gaming laptop from MC for $360 (actually snagged 2 as I knew my adult son would want it) and it has the 3050 8gb and i5 11400H with 16gb ram. For that money, it was a big score.
I mean, its cool that the 6GB 3050 can do as well as it does considering the power limit, 6GB of VRAM and cut down chip, but it is in poor taste to ask so much for so little in return. This to me seems like a lazy and overpriced attempt to sell of chips that may have been defective or something. They shouldn't have even called it a RTX 3050, it should have been renamed to RTX 3040 or something because, it isn't a 3050. To some, a few FPS here and there off all of the averages and lows may not seem like a lot, but with so few FPS as it is in many games, literally every single FPS can matter, making the difference between a smooth gaming experience or a choppy mess. And this is just more reason why I continue to buy mostly used PC hardware, because I can look at what hardware there is and the state of the latest drivers before making a choice on what to buy. Or, I just buy my roommate's used parts as it usually goes, I have never been disappointed.
The only scenario when getting 3050 6GB makes sense is if you are upgrading old office PC, so you could "game" on it, or if you are making small ITX build that does have low power budget (example: has external laptop psu etc). Power supply only from PCIe slot with no other power connectors is the only reason one would want to buy this GPU, cuz it is still better than AMD APUs, especially if you compare APU + Expensive fast RAM vs CPU + 3050 GPU. Also, this GPU only makes sense in Low Profile variant.
I still see myself buying the 6gb over the 8gb for the lack of power connector alone. It's really the only upside but at least it can turn a i7 8700 office pc into a 1080p rig for kinda cheap I guess
Would like to see more videos on AMD cards, many of them are much better price to performance wise compared to their Nvidia counterparts. The 3050 is absolutely not worth it at all where i live cause you can find brand new 6650XT's for similar or lower price, and on the used market you can find 6800XT's for even lower.
If the price was right, it would make sense as an upgrade for my old Dell workstation that doesn't have any GPU power connectors, currently using a GTX 1650. Budget AMD cards don't use all the PCI lanes so they're no good in older systems and Intel more or less requires resizeable bar so I can't use them either. My daughters just got into Minecraft so I can see 1080p with ray tracing and some DLSS working nicely there. I got my 1650 from CeX for around £80 so it's gonna be a while before the upgrade becomes worth it.
To me the 3050 6G only makes sense in two scenarios: with the Palit KalmX version so you have a totally quiet card or with low-power PCs you can use the 6G model without additional PCIe power. I'd still have preferred a name like 3040. It wouldn't have been the first x40-class card. The 3050 6G is pretty impressive when it comes to efficiency though. You're losing about 20% of the performance but the power consumption is falling much more.
Honestly if it can draw its power from the m/b then this occupies a unique place. Consider it an upgrade from the low power 1650 and it looks a lot better. Dell optiplexs can be supercharged with this
Hey, really enjoying your Vidoes. I am using the RTX 3050 6G in a sleeper build for LAN-Parties. Just wondering, have you noticed that with the current AMD drivers 24.x.x you cant play Fallout NV anymore. Its strait crashing when you want to load or start a game. Would love the see a video about it. Much love.
gtx 750, 750ti, 1050, 1050ti, 1650 were best seller considering you can add it in a grandma pc with a bad psu lol, not only for this reason ofc but buy a 60dollars, euros gtx 1050ti 4gb witch can run currently almost every games isn t a bad choice instead buy a 600 gaming pc. If u needn't 1080p 60fps to have fun lol. Maybe it ll be same here :) rx 6400 and arc a380 do nice the job but maybe this thing ll perform better :)
They drop $50 of the price of the 8gb model and $65 off the gb model and the price/perf might be there for media center/email pc with light gaming abilities. But at these prices you can get an rx 6600 that's better than both (the 8gb model could be fairly close in RT, but is that really relevant at this power level?)
Small note: Keep in mind that the 6G version only gets its power via the PCI-E, and the 8GB needs a 1x8Pin power connector. This means that the maximum power consumption also increases from 70 to 130 watts. That's 100% more power for 10-15fps more. For me the 6GB version is more interesting, just because of the power consumption...
bro i have rtx 3050 6gb gigabyte with no 8 pin cable but it performance like the rtx 3050 8gb i don't really know in cyberpunk 2077 i can reach 57fps with high settings and in all other games performance like the 8gb vram with only less than 4fps
Can you compare these 2 3050’s vs the RTX 2060 in War Thunder at 1440p Maximum preset? I had an RTX 2070 laptop that was more akin to a Desktop 2060 in performance. When I was having no issues before the GPU died after 3 years of daily gaming at 95°C, I could easily run 1440p with frame rates between 80-120 FPS. I’d assume both 3050’s would run War Thunder at the same preset at 120+ FPS.
So the 3050 6GB is 3/4s of the 3050 8GB wafer which is 2/3rds of the 3060 wafer which is 3/4s of the 3070 wafer, with the clocks turned down. I'd buy a used 2060 over both of these.
6gb 3050 is what a $99-115 card should be in 2024. Budget GPU that can actually perform somewhat, so long as you don't demand above 1080/60/medium in most games. Pricing it where they did is crazy.

Please, could you compare to its actual competitors? All with no power cable needed. Like the RX6400, 1050TI etc please
If you need also support for more than 2 monitors the competition is very limited, non-existent even (There are a few intel variants without need of power cable, but ... and nvidia's own A400 - that's all.
The reduced lanes will cripple the card in an older PCIe slot.
that is true
the goal for these gpus is be display adapters or htpc or itx builds focused on low power consumption
Power limit the older card to 70 watts and see how they compare at the same power level?
The 6GB card's performance is unbelievably good, considering it's running on Motherboard-provided power only. The 8 GB card is not performing good enough, considering it is drawing nearly double the power of the 6GB one.
6GB cards price is too high.
Awesome video... And completely agree the 3040 at £99 would be acceptable
My local university surplus is selling Dell Optiplex with 8th and 9th i5s in them. The 3050 6gb would make for a perfect budget build with one of them.
This might end up in a lot of OEM systems.
I love this guys videos. Allways starts off outside really bright and colourful and interesting.
The 4050 mobile hangs out with the 3050 8gb but at only 50 watts. Slap that bad boy on a pcb and gimme that thing for budget builds!
Mine RTX 3050 is 1 times bigger than that how is that possible i don't get it?
Mine is ASUS Nvidia RTX3050 8GB
@@dodgedemonsrtx Still not bad at all, 8GB really quite big. 👍🏻
I like 3050 6g. It allows my shitty HP tower with proprietary mobo and psu to do crazy stuff such as animate with blender.
Why compare it to rtx3050 8gb? It’s suppose to replace gtx1650
Different AIB manufacturers have choice of different fans, with various levels of "coil whine"
He has a palit card and an Asus card. If you don't have those exact same cards, then comparing them with his cards is pointless.
Different OEMs put different parts in their products. You can't just compare the 3050 8gb with the 3050 6gb unless your cards are from the same manufacturer.
I paired this card (6gb) with a r5 5500 and 16gb ddr4 for under $350 for my sister and it does great for everything she does!
no way i have 3050 8gb vram asus daul and its good i dont think 3050 6gb is good for gaming high graphics card its like gtx 1650 ti same as rtx 3050 6gb
Rx 6400 has a 53w tdp
The 3050 6GB is much better, on top of raw performance it has video encoder, more VRAM and twice the PCIe lanes compared to the RX6400 and RX6500XT.
But I think the 6gb model consuming about half the power and running also 10°c colder is a really good thing.
how about an undervolt on both and see where that goes
I'm guessing this is more like what the 750ti(the later pci-e powered only version) was to the 1000 series than it is a to a (non pci-e powered) 1050ti? Is their a 1050ti equivalent in the 3000 or 4000 series? I can't think of a more powerful 3000 or 4000 only pci-e powered GPU 🤔
There are low power version of rtx2060 and rtx4060 - A2000 and A4000.
Did you just keep the card on the edge near a pond?
Try to compare 3050 6GB vs 1660 Ti 6GB
The GTX1660Ti ties with the RTX3050 8GB, or at least they did when 3050 was released.
I've tried both, the 1660-Ti is on par with the 8GB.
Curious if an undervolt and rising the power limit from 70w to 75w would allow the 3050 6GB to reach higher speeds and close the gap a bit.
I'd be very interested in seeing a 6GB gpu comparison video. a 3050, 2060, and RX 5600XT. Optionally, a 1660Ti.
The 3050 6Gb always seemed to be around 200MHz slower that probably didnt help it at all
Power limits. The 6 GB tops at like 70W while the 8GB goes past 120W. No more juice left. If my 3060 is anything to go by, it should boost a bit higher with a well set undervolt and come closer to the 8GB version.
curious how far the 6Gb 3050 can pushed considering the clocks on it are way lower
G'day Random,
After seeing the first few comparisons with the Difference at least 15% to exceeding 20%, how confusing it is now as some retailers are not highlighting the 6GB in the title & will be on the 2nd Hand Market in the future for the same reason, I too was thinking as it is too late to change the 8GB to 3050Ti this should have been a RTX3040/3040Ti.
Hey I think it would be interesting if you reviewed the palit silent 3050
I'm still thinking of buying a Radeon RX6600 non-xt... would be interesting to see how that GPU compares to these.
I got my 1650 from CeX for around £80 so it's gonna be a while before the upgrade becomes worth it.
what type of vram
It's surprisingly power efficient, the older card uses 50% more power in most cases for just 20% more performance.
The only viable gaming use case for the 3050 6GB is in OEM PC with no 6 or 8 pin power available. Outside of that, it's a super hard pass IMO.
It's wild that the OG 3050 and the 3070 Ti have the same amount of VRAM.
I've got weird feelings that I see object textures from Skyrim in Starfield ;D Especialy stone walls.
😁
The value will change once current stock sells through, the 6GB will remain at MSRP, the 8GB will become more expensive on the used market.
man if they would have just called this card a 3030 and priced it at $120-$140 this card could have actually been something of note
I'd like to see some more videos around used hardware, because there is a distinct lack of it from UK UA-camrs.
Yeah the market here is just terrible though. Too much variation.
I'd like to see how different the RTX 3050 6 GB performs in PCIe 3.0. Considering this newer model only comes with 8 lanes, it should be much worse.
Would this be a worth while upgrade over my current GtX 1050ti?
bro i have rtx 3050 6gb gigabyte with no 8 pin cable
but it performance like the rtx 3050 8gb i don't really know
in cyberpunk 2077 i can reach 57fps with high settings and in all other games performance like the 8gb vram with only less than 4fps
As Tom from @MooresLawIsDead says it: There are no bad products, just bad pricing.
fwiw, the Gigabyte full height RTX 3050 6GB is currently £139 at Currys/Amazon in the UK. 20% cheaper than other cards with same chipset.
its pretty much equivalent to 139 pounds in canada, its 250 cad, 139 pounds is 244 cad
I'd buy a used 2060 over both of these.
if there is a healthy second hand market where you live and power consumption is not a problem, i agree with your logic
@@betag24cn
The 2060 is a 160W part. 😉
@@darthwiizius that is alot for a person who qants a 70 watts part, keep that in mind
@@betag24cn
Fair point.
6gb 3050 is what a $99-115 card should be in 2024. Budget GPU that can actually perform somewhat, so long as you don't demand above 1080/60/medium in most games.
Pricing it where they did is crazy.
Is the 3050 card similar to the 4050 mobile?
The 3050 6GB to 8GB version is really just the same as the differences between the 3 and 6 GB 1060s
