With half the bus width and just over half of the power consumption.. the 3040 is technically impressive. I am suprises how well the 1060 keeps up to be honest. Only 20% apart. This comparison just shows the state of things in 2024. Now we just need a 64bit 50 series gpu called 5050 with 8gb of vram at 45 watt to add to the mix. Oh and similar pricing.

Good video. The RTX 3050 6GB is a great card if you have an OEM pc like a Dell or HP and are using integrated graphics. A simple installation with no cables. A lot of people are just casual 1080p gamers.

1080p is for MOST people.. 1440p is for people who can afford a new Apple watch every 2 years. If you don't have a new Apple watch this year or if you don't have a Mac Book for no reason, then you are most likely gaming on 1080p.. UA-camrs will have thousands of videos for budget PCs, Optiplex builds, $150 PCs but then tell everyone that 1440p is the most popular resolution. how is that possible when most of their videos cater to broke people. how is that possible when its the 3060 and 1650 and 1660 super that are the most popular GPUs... most people game 1080p. most people don't even have 1440P monitors.. if they do, they aren't watching videos like these..

@@jordanmntungwa3311 I honestly wouldn’t game in anything over 1080p, no matter how much money I have. The human eye is proven to not really be able to tell the difference with anything past it. I can game in 4k on my Xbox and actually switched it to 1080p because I truly could not tell the difference at all. We also can’t really see beyond 60fps either and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves to justify their insane $7k PC, just to play video games. The best bang for your buck is to use yesterday’s server parts that sell for NOTHING on eBay. 14 core xeons are like 30 to 40 bucks and the X99 mobos to run them are like 90 and still use a respectable DDR4 ram cards. No integrated graphics though, but who really cares when you’re using a GPU anyway? I built a decent gaming rig for under $400 with an old RX590. I’m upgrading to a newer build tho that has 2 xeons, a titan xp and an rx6700xt.

@@robotron1236you are wrong. 1440p and 4k DO have a difference and we are able to see it. Like wtf are you on? Check your eyes as you might have some sight problems. More pixels equals better image quality, less aliasing, smoother textures… Regarding the FPS, me and everyone can see the difference between 60 and at least 120+. If you compare 120 with something higher, then I would agree the difference cannot be really seen. Also, who calls RAM “ram card” lmao, but for real, don’t go saying fake information just because you don’t care about having an expensive PC. If there wasn’t a difference, it wouldn’t exist.

@@jordanmntungwa3311Objectively speaking, yes, 1080p is the most widespread, but 1440p is also very popular. That said, the jump from 1080p to 1440p in terms of performance requirements isn't even that big, especially with modern upscaling, a 3060 can easily handle it no problem. Even the monitors themselves aren't that expensive, you can find many good 1440p models for less than $200.

    • @HunterTracks

@@robotron1236I agree that there's functionally no difference between 1080p and 4k... on a laptop screen. Anything bigger than that, though, and the difference can become pretty easy to notice.
Also, Xbox cannot actually put out native 4k in most games and lowering the render resolution in the Xbox settings doesn't affect display resolution. So, depending on the games you played, you went from sub-1080p resolutions upscaled to 1440-1800p and then outputted at 4K to sub-1080p resolutions upscaled to 1080p and then outputted at 4K, which, yeah, not a huge difference in quality there, for obvious reasons.

Depending on where you live, it ends up being a complete non factor though. You factor in the price you pay for a 1060 vs a 3060 6gb (it's too new to have a consistent supply of 2nd hand either) and it'll take 3-4 years of 24/7 full load usage to make up the price difference in terms of operating costs. The 3050's biggest problem is the rx6600 sits in its price bracket and is no slouch in efficiency relative to the performance, in addition to absolutely smoking the 3050 6gb in every game. There's no compelling reason to opt for a 3050 unless you have a potato psu or need an LP card

Didn't make it a good 6GB video and the 1060 is not the entry level GPU for its generation. And Turing nowhere to be found. The entry level premise should have been tested with a 950, 1050, 1650 and 3050 6GB. Or, for a 6GB shootout, the 980Ti, 1060 6GB, 1660 Super, 2060 6GB and 3050 6GB.

If you go further back, it really shows how development is slowing down:
    RTX 3050 6GB = 2024
    2304 Shaders
    Budget GPU
    GTX 1060 6GB = 2016
    1280 Shaders
    Mainstream GPU
    GTX 280 = 2008
    240 Shaders
    High End GPU
    2016 < 2024 = 1.8x Increase
    2008 < 2016 = 5.33x Increase
The gap in performance between a GTX 280 and GTX 1060 6GB will be vastly bigger, so what do we expect GPU's will be doing in another 8 years time? (2032). Is it enough to be worth the upgrade? I'm still on a GTX 970 which is a decade old!!!

@@drpotato5381 . 2008 was a financial crisis time and yet the GTX 280 has 1.87x as many shaders has the generation before it.
      GTX 7800 = 24 Shader (Jun 2005)
      GTX 8800 = 128 Shaders (Nov 2006)
      GTX 280 = 240 Shaders (June 2008)
      GTX 480 = 480 Shaders (March 2010)
      GTX 680 = 1536 Shaders (March 2012)
In-between you had refresh cards the GTX 9800 and GTX 580 with Fermi 2.0. Through the 2008 to 2009 financial crash things were almost doubling year on year.
There isn't a correlation between financial crisis and poor GPU improvements. If you just look at the performance increase from 1 generation to the next, the improvement is always falling.
The exception is something like a RTX 4090 which is brute forcing the situation with bigger die, more power, higher cost. The performance for your money is not increasing much.
If you look at process node costs as they shrink, the price is ever increasing. In earlier nodes the frequency increase was significant and you wouldn't hit a 'wall' as hard if pushing the cards. Power would go up, but nothing like they do now.
If you think the development is poor because of the financial situation currently, your in for a rude awakening on the other side. Especially when cards like the RTX 3090 and RTX 4090 exist through it.

I did not know what to do with this PC, so I tested it with an RTX 3050 6G. That and a RAM upgrade (from 4GB to 16) turned it into a decent Linux gaming machine for the kids. As you said 8 years! and we are still being dripfed on the entry level side of things, how long have we been stuck in that shadow of 1080p low. It really doesn't make sense for these cards to exists unless they are absurdly cheap. If i got a 1060 for about £50, by its pricing, the 3050 6GB would only make sense if it was a £100 card, the price it asks is what AMD is asking for the tier above it. you can get 1080Tis with a hint of luck for just over £100 now and that has almost double the VRAM and will still wipe its reign across any entry level card we have today, if theres one card that can give an "F you" to Nvidias scummy tactics its its own blood, the 1080Ti.

If you tested DX11 indie games, difference would be much smaller. GTX 10xx series have bad performance on DX12 titles.

You do realize the 5700 is about 40% more powerful than the 3050, right?

@@Lurch-Bot I have to wonder though, if they said the have an RX 550 with a a 5700, it's not an RX 5700 graphics card but rather a Ryzen 7 5700 CPU.

i got the 3050 6gb for a little 3u rack mounted gaming build, nothing facy just a rig that friends are able to parsec into that cant use any anti-cheat software on their own rigs due to them being on linux or mac os

recently upgraded from my 1060 to 5600xt so far I'm almost doubling my fps in every game

Did you have the 3GB 1060? Because that's the only way this statement makes sense. And the only way you'd get double the fps is if you were playing games that don't really run properly on 3GB VRAM.

Tbh I’d be expecting the RTX 3050 6GB to be about double the performance of the gtx1060 6GB after nearly a decade of innovation from Nvidia 😇👍

first of all, they're only about s 5 years apart.
and the 3050 is technically a a 40 class card.

@@JoeWayne84 the difference is the last two digits 50 and 60. 1050 and 1050ti costed below $140 at launch, and the prices for 1060 were even lower back in 2019, around $135
And the 1060 was never $300, it launched at $249.

3050 8GB launched in 2022 was at $249. 50 power card now costs almost $100 more in just 8 years ago is crazy. 3050 6GB variant shouldn't even be a 3050, especially not when a 1060 6GB still holds up
