My son has a HP desktop with a Ryzen 4300G we got on black Friday for $350. He's outgrown the onboard graphics. The power supply and motherboard are proprietary. We added the MSI RTX 3050 6gb ($169) and 8gb ($25) more RAM. Now he's playing games like RDR2, CS2, OW2, etc. In 1080P on medium/high graphics with great frame rates.
Why nvidia is not releasing rtx 4050 desktop seems like nvidia don't care about the people who is limited on budget. Now a days they are just releasing better successes of 70 ,80 & 90 series gpu 60 series doesn't have any major performance jump and 50 series they forgot

the 6gb version has a diferents GPUs, while rtx 3050 8GB have a GA106 the 6GB version have a GA107. The 8 GB version has +200 CUDA's Core. 6GB version is a downgrade in the hardware.

-with GA107 and 6pin (pretty same performance but own chip now)

I bought the Asus RTX 3050 Dual 6GB just cause i wanted the fastest Pcie slot powered GPU as a novelty and that it has a DVI connection for an old Asus 27" 144HZ gaming monitor that I also still use.

I can't think of any use case where someone should buy a 3050 in 2024, be the 6GB variant or the 8GB one. A used 3060 12GB (or new if you can find it cheap) would be the best option for people on a tight budget.
They make a low profile version of the 3050 6 GB version which will fit in slimline cases. That's the main use case. Plus it doesn't need an external power connector, like the low profile 4060.
The RTX 3060 12GB are not cheap. It cost 300-320 new in my country. RTX 3050 6GB cost 180 dollars, RTX 3050 8GB cost 220 dollars new and the rx 6600 cost 310 dollars new.
You take the risk that most of 3060 were used for mining

Man, if only I had that price for rx 6600 where I live. RX 6600 new cost 300-320 dollars. The cheapest RTX 4060 is 360 dollar where I live. RTX 3050 6GB are 180 dollars and RTX 3050 8GB is 210-230 dollars new.

It does if you are an Optiplex user. This card is for that target audience, people who needs a powerful GPU without a 6 pin connector.
@@pedrowilliams220 I like the RTX 3050 6GB. I wish I could replace my RX 570 4GB with the RTX 3050 6GB. The RX 570 is in my second pc with and I3 8100 and 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16. My main rig has a RTX 3050 8GB and is undervolted, now it only uses 75w-90w of power while keeping the same clock speed as the default one.

Horizon forbidden west is the proof that you don't need more than 8gb of VRAM if the game is well optimized. I don't know what people want for less than 200usd. We are not in 2015 anymore. 200usd is not what it used to be.
I have a RTX 3050 8GB card and running out of vram in town, city and cutscenes. I have a Ryzen 5 1600 AF that is pcie gen 3. SInce it uses gen 3 my RTX 3050 and if vram runs out it causes problems. I can easily run it at medium settings without a issue but high settings is a problem. If I run around in the forest area like he did the high settings work and does not go over vram but in the town and city areas it eats over 8GB of vram.

If your PSU is old, you can buy Molex -> 6-pin adapter. But judging by the lack of any 6-pin (that's not normal), I can only suspect that it's a VERY weak PSU (250-300W). In terms of power consumption, 1050ti is identical to 3050 (6gb) so you can give it a go. Just make sure you have at least a 300W PSU from a reputaple manufacturer.

Probably 6GB is all they could get away with running in the bus powered 75 watt Pcie slot. Anymore would require an external Pcie power connection from the PSU.

In one hand the 8Gb gives more FPS, buuuuutttt it consumes way more power (+- 40%) per FPS than the 6Gb. If I have to choose between both, I would save more money to buy a better GPU 😶

What fz 5 ran close to 60; starfield a poorly optimized game ran at 30 a framerate which most people are fine with. A medium to high AW2 ran at 30. This gpu is good enough for someone on a budget.
