  • The RX 6300 is one of AMD's lesser known graphics cards, and carries with it the same limitations as the 6400 and 6500XT. It's probably not designed for gaming given it's elusiveness, but we're still going to try...

Honestly speaking, for a 32 Watt TDP this is kinda impressive. Nothing that i would wanna daily drive at all, way too slow for today's gaming standarts, but keep in mind that 10 years ago similar cards could consume as much as 250 Watts!!! And there's a reason these are put in OEM systems specifically, it's basically just a modern day GT 1030 meaning it's more of a "display adapter" meant for extra display ports rather than a "gaming card", something i am noticing a good chunk in the comment section is not quite understanding.

You should see what Intel celeron N100 does at 6 watts. It plays GTA 5 800p normal settings at 38fps avg. Peaks at 47 fps. Which is insane for an iGPU and cpu combined at 6 watts (like an arm chip). Still its fun what and pushes out 25w. Sadly they didnt gave it 4gb which is not that expensive but I think there is a manufacturer that would slap 4gb on this maybe... Like those old gtx 730s with 1gb or 2gb ddr3 or even 5. We'll see

@@ff7soldierff7Those Celerons would be amazing in a desktop socket. If they could price it at like $20, it'd be a great ultra budget system when paired with a GT 710. You could give it 8GB RAM and the GPU would have its own VRAM so it'd all do fine.
It's a system on a chip design though, so it doesn't actually need a motherboard. And it probably has no free PCIe lanes.
The 6W limit is artificial. Once you disable it in the BIOS, they pull up to 12W and doing so become unironically good CPUs. It exists because "cooling" on the devices you can find them in is a sheet of copper foil.

There is also the issue on getting a high tier card from a few gens old, because if you have a budget PC, your PSU might not be able to handle it. I just got into that issue when building a quick 3600+1080 pc for VR, the PSU was a cheap one without the PCIe cables needed.
I also have a friend that "didn't want to spend much", but after switching the GPU, had to get a new PC bc the bottleneck was too much.
Just try to use your weak but decent GPU to it's fullest and save up for a new build in the future, don't upgrade piece by piece for some time. 😊

Honestly wouldn't mind picking up one of these for a chiplet Zen 3 home server, like a 5700X or 5900E. On some boards it'll refuse to boot without some form of graphics, and it saves having to load the heavier and propietary Nvidia drivers for a GT710 when all you need is an X server in a blue moon.

Surprising amount of performance for something with just 2GB of VRAM. Definitely more of a display adapter but could play retro games or slightly older titles without issue. GTA V, Borderlands 2, etc.

8:30 - textures at ultra in RDR2, 1080p? I doubt it really worked. IIRC ultra textures could only be enabled on 4 GB VRAM GPUs and it was close to a VRAM limit.

That setup would likely outperform my Dell Inspiron "computer-in-a-box" pre-built w/a Core2Quad Q 9400, I swapped out the PSU with a Thermaltake "Smart" 430watter and added an RX 470 4GB and an SSD, running windows 10. Maybe it's finally time to upgrade? . . . . hmm . . . . this just might be compelling enough to persuade me.
Power consumption seems a bit high. I dunno.

  • @christianmino3753

You would think in such a tiny, lightweight GPU that's also only x4 that they would size the pins accordingly. It looks funny to see the x16 length but only pinned as x4. It feels like a missed opportunity for an easy way to save material. It doesn't seem like a lot, but on a major scale where if every ten boards they made, they were able to make another one out of what would have otherwise been waste, that's a decent amount of money saved in materials at the end of the run.
I don't know if that's how it works with PCB's and saving the fiberglass and other materials and stuff, but you showcased that 4060 a while back that was only pinned to x8 and that was a big card, they have to had done that for a reason.

    • @samwalker7567
      @samwalker7567 2 місяці тому +8

My guess would be for literal physical stability... x16 length means more contact with longer slots even if you're not using that as electrical contact. A x4 connector has physically less material to keep it in place when inserted.
When you consider that these are mostly intended for business use to drive multi-monitors, the design choice makes sense - it's going in some box that will get knocked, kicked, bumped etc, especially as non-technical users stick a bunch of DisplayPort cables into them. The cost of a small amount of extra PCB (which isn't really "extra" anyway as a shorter slot just means more cut-off waste) is nothing compared to the cost incurred by companies calling IT support for display issues.
So the manufacturers just price up a bit to cover their costs there and it's a non-issue.
Whilst these aren't Radeon Pro cards (and therefore aren't in the high reliability guarantee product lines) I would guess a fair few out there in the wild are using the AMD Software: Pro Edition for the more stable drivers given their intended use case.

I bought one of these off eBay as a backup/testing GPU and then threw it in a server to replace an ageing GT710. Much prefer yhe AMD card for Linux compatibility if i need to use a GUI on the server directly.
Strange thing is that GPU-Z shows it as half the shaders at 384. Unsure if that is accurate or a bug.

  • @TheSpotify95

Interesting card. Probably only good as an upgrade for a small form factor PC with integrated graphics (so therefore allowing a few games to be played) but ONLY if the motherboard supports PCIe 4.0! PCIe 3.0, and especially PCIe 2.0, will likely be severely hampered, jut look at those PCIe lanes! 4x is what a lot of SATA adapter splitters and NVMe adapters run at, not GPUs...

I think it's better if you use act 3 as benchmark in BG3. That entire section is an FPS killer and it would make a much more 'real' performance benchmark to see how a GPU handles crowded areas.

It's all to do with expectations. The weird thing is that I've been gaming for a very long time. I remember a time when anything above 2-3FPS was considered acceptable and polygons weren't filled with textures, or even were not filled at all and were just wireframes. In slower-paced games 20-30fps seems perfectly playable to me, so long as the game engine doesn't slow down (as a few do) to "keep up" with the graphics. Also most games look pretty good to me even on low/medium settings and I usually prefer to drop a detail level than to use upscaling. As I like to say "I have better things to spend my money on than slightly more detailed backgrounds".
Well. I did that they until I started to muck about with LLM and generative AI. oh, lord. THEN you need the 24 gigs. :-) It would be nice if a quick image could be done using something like Stable Diffusion and via Automatic1111 at the end of these reviews - just to add something other than gaming. Just a set series of imagine with a known seed number, so it's always consistent.
