I asked my rheumatologist to reduce my RA meds, while I increased use of quality supplements. She was skeptical at first, but knew this was what I wanted to do. The RA meds had been causing me problems. After a few months, my blookwork showed my inflammation was beginning to come down. She has now said to keep doing what I'm doing since my numbers are the best they have been since being diagnosed with RA. I have reduced my carb intake to ~125g carbs per day and take the quality supplements. I eliminated carbonated beverages, fried foods, and processed foods. I limit beef, eat chicken, increased fish intake, eat fruits (especially berries), and vegetables, and eat simple foods without heavy gravies or sauces. It is a challenge at first, but then becomes second nature. The reduction in pain won't happen overnight, but for me, the pain is much less than before following this regime.

Thank you so very much for excellent teaching and encouraging suggestions. I am a 70. yo female who had knee surgery for arthritis…stress fractures(
“ cement” was injected under anesthesia, shredded meniscus repaired and bakers cyst drained. That was 6 mos ago. My knee has been painful ever since ( was also painful for about 2 mos prior). I am a RN with MSN’ and also LMT so I am familiar with anatomy. I have had PT and a personal trainer to show me exactly what muscles need strengthening so I can stop limping. I am so tired of pain and was quite discouraged …feeling blessed to see your videos and doing the exercises you recommended. My hope is restored. So grateful!! Thank you for sharing your gift

I really like how you explain bone on bone. I was told that surgery was my only option, which made me feel like it was a death sentence. Thanks to the support from hubby, he helped me find alternatives. Now, I have to build myself back up again. Small wins are what gives me hope. The difficult thing is ignoring the "neigh sayers." I go to work and they are telling me I really should get the operation and that I'm limping. I go home and look at my security camera and it show dramatic improvement. Even my phone is saying my asymmetry is much better. I've gone from 85% to 29%! To me that's improvement. Yes, there are some days I just don't feel that great and I'm 40%, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel. Thanks for your vid!

@@arthritisadventuremy surgeon said that my hip is bone on bone, that even though I don’t have tremendous pain, that I will eventually. That the only option is surgery. I’m squatting 190, and using a hip strengthening machine( multi hip with 90 lbs) lost 19 lbs. all in preparation for “eventual” surgery.Getting up from the floor is difficult. Some acute pain ocassionlly. X- rays show bone spurs at the hip joint from my hip dysplasia .

Thank you for your clear information. I have rather severe hip arthritic degeneration in one leg. I'm a gardener that takes care of a large property which entails many hours of physical movement nearly everyday....often walking all day. For a number of years I have been very disciplined about having a healthy diet and I also take turmeric each day (mixed with tomato juice and a little olive oil I find a good way to take it). I also eat a lot of fish. When the doctor looked at a recent hip X-ray, her comment was that I must be very patient with the level of discomfort. I have pain, but I think that the work i do plus diet pretty much has me following your advice. Sometimes my hip stiffens up at night, but starting work the next day it often feels better. My problem is that I don't get much rest and too much physical movement enforces the pain, and sometimes by the end of the day the level of discomfort can be rather severe again. I might start eyeing the Ibuprofen on the shelf on days like that, it definitely alleviates pain, but a number of people presumably in the know, warn of the dangers using such medication. Learning to take it easier is still something that I need to learn to do. I greatly appreciate your advice for me to keep in mind.

I really like your attitude and ideas. I am a vigorous weight lifter, I am too heavy and working on that now. I am gravitating toward more free weight kind of exercises now. I have been going to the gym off and on for almost 30 years. In the last three years I am working harder than ever. My lifts are constantly getting bigger. I used to leg press around 900 Lbs. Until back in June doing some calf raises with 540Lbs, on last set of 10 I got a jab if pain. Been fighting it ever since. I but have not given up.

Hi Dr Alyssa, thanks for your good logical approach. I was not being consistent regarding my b.o.b. hip. Giving up on exercises after only a week because of little result. Stopped going to PT cos all they do is apply pressure on specific muscles leaving you too sore to do exercises. Finally, plain old walking for 1-2 hours a day consistently made a lot of difference. All ache gone with only little soreness after being on feet for four hours which relieves very quickly after a sit down rest. I do only one glute exercise and focus on correcting the gait. Proves that the ATM approach works provided you don't have spurs or irregular femur ball.

No bone on bone pain yet, but my surgeon is obsessed with pushing me into a replacement. An elbow replacement is much worse than the actual problem. I take turmeric, do traction exercises to increase the joint space, but what specific exercises can I do to strengthen the muscles around the elbow? TIA.

I've had left hip arthritis, "bone on bone", plus herniated discs apparently 20 years. Have been told to see the surgeon, but have an interesting "cure" for the pain, which has worked for me. Actually, 3 tips. First, I found out 25 years ago when injuring my knee really bad, horrible pain, that my yoga habit of lying on the floor/carpet with pillow felt wonderful and the knee healed up fast. (It wasn't needing surgery, wasn't meniscus tear, but really painful.) My brother had weight lifting injury and cured pretty fast on my living room floor. So I started "flooring" it, to this day, it is my "go to" for pain elimination. In my case I also have scoliosis, where my pelvis is crooked on left starting from the bra strap area and being on the floor seems to even fix my 3 herniated discs. #2 For years for pain I've been taking Calcium Magnesium Zinc D3, currently Spring Valley brand, which really affects my Vitamin D levels, for pain. When I skip taking it my bones start to hurt. I take it with a little red wine and cheese and sleep without pain. #3 I have a leather bolster about 3 inches thick by 8 inches and use it in bed in the abdominal area and it feels wonderful, helps me not limp when I place it above the left hip while sleeping on my left side. Doing lots of line dancing and yard work didn't help all those years. The bolster was a head piece for an IKEA recliner. Anyone else try these remedies?

Check with your Dr before taking any supplements. I took turmeric, and it was very bad with the high blood pressure medication I was taking. I had to stop.

I was told in May this year I need a replacement - I started physio, and an exercise program called ‘GLA:D’ at our hospital - it’s a 6 week program (also available online but it’s expensive) - it has made a HUGE difference already. Building strong muscles that support the knee makes a BIG difference. I’m 58, and out of shape but it’s really helping me already.

Best advice ever !!! Can't believe you're a Dr.! Maybe the medical industry have some hope .... I lost completely respect and confidence in them and covid sealed that one for me but listening to young enthusiastic people like you that can actually think for themselves give me a little hope for future generations as you cannot go by the controllers theoretical books that brainwash Dr's completely 😢

Hi I Love your channel, I have so much OA all over its scary. I am allergic to Tumeric, (aspirin related), can you suggest something else? I have 6 herniated discs in my neck, bone on bone both shoulders, knee issues, and lower back, nerve pain in a toe, (but I started eating more protein and weirdly it went away, I read taht can help, why dont drs tell us that!), and OA also in my big toe on the otehr foot, theres more but thats what Im dealing with daily. I start pt tomr on my knee and neck. The neck is the worse for me. I will look for some videos on here for neck. I already do neck exercises but the pain is still really bad. Ive also started eating anti-inflammatory foods. Thanks for all your help!

Post rotator cuff repair, I have osteo arthritis which has just got worse after all the numerous exercises I’ve done - a year later I’m worse off than I was. Can you speak into shoulder pain? I find aqua therapy the best but even that exacerbated the pain. Thank you .

I appreciate every one of your videos and find all of the information helpful. But... I listen to a lot of videos at work. My bosses are okay with them playing in the background, but its hard to not bother others when the intro music is unexpectedly louder than the speech level. Just a view from the other side.

I Do NOT want surgery. It's not only bone on bone, its atrophied butt muscles, degenerative spine disease, a collapsed L4 sitting on L5. Stenosis and a lipoma in that area. But my worse enemy is cfs/me. The fatigue makes it nearly impossible to get up and do a few exercises. If there were only 3 exercises I should do, what would they be? Thanks.❤

You answered one of my questions about so many have more pain in joints on the left knee... the one that sits inactive when driving compared to the right leg doing all the acceleration and braking! It's epedemic! Everyone one I know, including myself has pain on that knee and we all drive automatics all the time... many hours added up in a lifetime... of exercising and strengthening one knee at the expense of the other weakening.
