A Delorean with the motor from Tesla installed in it would be pretty damn awesome. The hard part would be getting the battery pack to fit without messing up the balance of the car.
I’m seriously surprised no one has put a rotary in a DMC-12 considering that’s what John DeLorean actually intended on using initially. I’d like to see a big boost 20B or 26B shoved in one of these spitting flames out the tail pipes and making 600 or 700hp..... it’d be one hell of a ride-
For good times call your local Auto Zone and ask if they have a replacement flux capacitor in stock for an 88' GMC DeLorean....I called 5 Auto Zones in Baton Rouge, LA a few months back and not a single one got the joke. They actually brought in manager's to help find it on the computer...............Wow......
Needs the turbocharged Olds/Buick/Rover/TVR/Triumph/MG/Morgan/RevcoBrabham aluminum V8 ==> 5.2L... in fact, DeLorean should have bought that engine from Rover and added a turbo... The British Govt would have greased the skids for that transaction... The car would then have sold like hotcakes and still be in production...
If you buy a stock one you’ll have even worse issues if you let it sit. K jet does not like sitting! The first version of these PRV engines that they put in the volvos were odd firing 2.7 models and sound pretty cool IMO . I’ve also always wanted one of these but they have hit collector status prices already I’m afraid . All the best to you finding the one of your dreams and thanks for the video.
I should probably mention I have a 1978 Volvo 264 with a 2.7 Odd firing PRV and a M46 manual trans . The early modes liked to eat camshafts so the one I have had it’s camshafts replaced at 60k and it has around 90k original miles on the engine at this time .
Thats actually wrong, the PRV V6 was never in a 240 but the 240GLT from 1979-1980, then its the stock engine for Volvo 264 and Volvo 760 and Volvo 780. The type model for this engine in a those Volvos are B28E and gives 156hp, there was an relier model to that was available in Volvo 264 and its name was B27A and B27E. NOTE: It could be that 240´s had the option in america only to get the B28 engine instead for the "red block" volvo engine.
Thats not right, B20 was only in 240 in the very early models, 1975 to 1978 if i remember correctly, and it was produced to 1993 so for the most part i believe it was the B23 and B230 that was most common in the 240.
Johnny Wrong Yeah.. thats right :D, that PRV V6 wasn't really in a 240 at any time.. well unless the 240 GLT 1979-1980..there are actually two PRV V6 versions, in volvo they called it B27 and B28, B27 is the earlier model.
Milford Civic It's a Peugeot Renault and Volvo engine ... This engine was also in a Renault 25 and 30 and Peugeot put it a 604 and Volvo in the 240... That's where is stands for ... P-R-V ( Peugeot-Renault-Volvo )
MrClioMarcel True, and at debut of this project, a 3.8L V8 was planed, but the petrol shock from 1974 who double the gas prices , who are still VERY HIGHT IN Europe, actual average ~1.55€/1 liter in France (near 8$ /US gallon), kill the project who was transformed in a smaller V6, with 90° bank angle (same as a V8)...this explain WHY only rich people (or fanatics) can drive a US car in Europe...and over this, in France a 8000€ "carbon tax" for all high emission cars like for ex. Chevrolet Camaro,Lada Niva (....),Porsche Cayenne, etc...

Incoming horrible analogy: Isn't wanting a Delorean with a big engine kind of like wanting a Miata with a big engine? I mean, that's not what it's for.
Leelee I mean there are Miata's with bigger engines, it's all a matter of customisation, and having your own car, your own way. There is no right and wrong. Just stock and modified.
I'm just glad the blueprints and parts made it to this guy!! At least we could possibly even see brand spanking new cars from him! Not just factory fresh NOS!!
Colby13 ... you must be really ignorant to blame the ethanol I drive a ethanol LSA engine and no issues here, just a tun and get the right pistons and gaskets and you are ready, the issue its that crappy build engine, a massive amount oil mixing with the gas... not good at all
SES10M you're comparing apples to oranges. that's a much older engine. and ethanol actually is the reason our gas goes bad that quickly. however, the problem it causes with engines is more likely from rubber fuel lines. because ethanol has a reaction with rubber that has poor effects on engines. can an engine survive ethanol fine? yes. do old engines do it well? no. does that make them bad? also no
SES10M An engine that's built for ethanol is going to drive just fine. Ethanol is a viable fuel alternative and it's good. The problem is putting ethanol in cars that aren't meant for ethanol. Bad things happen, like lower gas mileage, gas going bad, and gunking up the fuel injection system.
WeActOnImpulse Official Ethanol Always cones with lower gas milage, I use Ethanol E85 in my LS1 wich is a 1994 engine, you just need to set it up, but at the long term its cheaper and better, ethanol could help manufacturers like GM and Ford to avoid the CAFE law, yes the same rule that forced the new ZO6 to have a supercharger 6.2L instead of a 7L with direct injection or a V6 twin turbo instead of a v8, america will keep lossing its veloved v8s if they keep using regular gas.... and most Americans are ingorant about Ethanol and they think ethaon is made from food... or ethanol is bad for cars... they actually think ethanol price is higher than current gas, or ethanol polute same as regular gas... ethanol is the perfect future for combustion engines, but people are so ignorant and blind by companies to see it,
moe123niner If you watch the video though, it sounds like the car has been in the mechanic's possession the whole time. That was a question in my post actually. With cars like these it is often a wealthy person that leaves the car with the specialist, and that seems to be the case here.

while nitro is cheaper you cant maintain nitro anytime you want to race while a turbo is always working plus without the right type of materials your whole engine block can corrode and catch up in flames in an instant if you push it a little too hard and most people if they want a fast car don't want to have a lot of the front end parts made of stainless steel just to use nitro without killing there car
_____At 3:35... As someone who's been writing novels for over fifteen years, hearing that old-timer talk about the Delorean is like prose-poetry. It's his style. He's got just enough shop-talk in there with everyday language that's easy to get. It also shows he's as much a presenter as he is a mechanic. There are publishing houses out of New York--and I'm talking to YOU, TOR, BAEN, DAW--who could take some lessons from this dude.
Welcome to the wonderful effects of E10 ethanol, that is what it does, if it sits longer than one month, you've got a tank of crap! I now run 100% gas in my 73 Ford van because it doesn't like corn, and what the stuff did when it sat getting work done on it
That's an exaggeration. E10 shelf life (or tank life) is way more than one month. And...there's no such thing as "100% gas"...actually there is, but it won't be the correct fuel for any engine. All gasoline is a combination of gasoline and additives. Ethanol is one of the additives used today.
DeLorean could sure design a nice looking car, pity everything under the skin was so crap - if it had a good engine (seriously, I know they mostly sorted it out eventually, but the PRV from the 80's has to be one of the worst engines of the late 20th century) and had been put together better, they probably would have sold a bundle.
I take that as a challenge. So I accept it. What's the best handling car you know of right now? Tell me And I will race it and beat it with all stock shite in it, ok?
I bet a few bottles of B-12 Chemtool in the half-empty gas tank would've broken up the goop in the fuel lines. That stuff is basically a super-concentrated version of the detergents included in normal gasoline. Might need to let the car sit with the ignition "on" but the engine "off" for a half-hour or so, so the fuel pump could cycle the solvents through and dissolve the goop without flushing the goop into the injectors.
The best DeLorean engine swaps I've seen are: Mazda 3-rotor, Lotus Esprit V8, and Porsche flat-6. I just feels wrong to put an american pushrod engine in it, as impressive as the Buick Grand National was.
This video, at least for me, shows one of the best sides of car tuning. Sure, it's annoying when your project car brakes, but when it brakes down in canyon like that, at that time day....just reminds me of my father's 240, the places we went in that thing. It was fast as hell, always braking, had an engine swap in it, made me sad when it left. Now every time I see a sunset I think about the day that car threw a rod.
There's always been a DMC service shop in Houston. Been that way for years.... It used to be on the West side of Houston, now it's located in Humble, TX just north and outside of Houston.
The magic bullet for bosch L-jetronic CIS fuel injection is Chevron's "Techron" fuel system cleaner it is usually sold at most chain autoparts (Kragen, Checkers, Shucks, Advanced)
In my fathers shop many years ago.. A man brought in a Delereon with a turbo motor.. It was fast. Alot of people did not know that the Motor was to be a turbo charged motor that was detuned for the delorean because the original motor was canceled right before he was to take delivery. Corporate espinoge was responsible for the slow motor.
I learnt this lesson (re Gummed up fuel lines) with my RG500 Pepsi Suzuki 500cc Motor Cycle "Kevin Schwantz" race replica, banned in the USA "emission fumes - 2 stroke" (yea loved him - met him several times in UK see logo) that I only used in Summer months. Drain down all fuel, unleaded gas gums up and a big job with 4 carburetors to clean out needles etc. This tends not to happen with Leaded Fuel, but hey not good for health right. Health & Safety Rule the Planet Now. Make sure you re-cycle your plastic waste properly, I do. Good to you Kevin, perhaps meet you again at Moto GP ?
The PRV engine is the exact same engine used in the Lancia Thema and the LMP1: the same car that holds the record for being the fastest around the Le Mans track "Circuit de la Sarthe", in France.

Jason Keohane woah what’s that ? Pls explain lll
@MrEverything good point just goes to show how much lies and fake stuff there is in videos on here
HOW
These guys keeping this legend car alive for life.
You go to a length of work, only to document a car tat simply is neglected for a while, so its motor and other gear need a good overhaul.
Why not get it overhauled and document the well-running fasted DeLorean?
Wasted video
Not even an overhual, just fuel system flush
Saw a De lorean at a car event that had been cleverly converted to an ev by a wind energy company. The take off speed was truly phenomenal. A whole new meaning to 'back to the future'
The flux capacitor in the background over the mechanic's shoulder was charming. I would never CONSIDER owning a Delorean without installing one.
When this baby hits 88 MPH you're going to see some serious shit!

Bye im going back to the past

Oh its not working
That mechanic must know these things down to the bolt. Will be the end of an era when he retires.
+tipoomaster Someone needs to become his apprentice ASAP.
There is a company that has the old stock, and parts and knowledge to build about 500 NEW deloreans
yea basically te mechanic at this shop right? He said at one time he had over 40 Deloreans at the shop and now currently has 20.
No there's a UA-cam video on it the company bought all the overstock parts from the factory the owner used to work in the original factory
yeah, that company is owned by the dude in the video. It even shows the workshop.
Timeless beauty......
I’d like to see a big boost 20B or 26B shoved in one of these spitting flames out the tail pipes and making 600 or 700hp..... it’d be one hell of a ride-
Glad to see your DeLorean is running great
Happy back to the future day
For good times call your local Auto Zone and ask if they have a replacement flux capacitor in stock for an 88' GMC DeLorean....I called 5 Auto Zones in Baton Rouge, LA a few months back and not a single one got the joke. They actually brought in manager's to help find it on the computer...............Wow......
I'm 18, havent seen the movie, haven't seen a delorean in person, and even i get the joke, wow.
www.oreillyauto.com/flux-capacitor
LOL - Classic!
I always say 82.
I would love to work in that DeLorean shop. Very clean and laid back place they got there.
Throw in some plutonium and a flux generator and make it go 88 miles per hour and you're PLATINUM.
You mean Flux Capacitor?
I would literally give 0 fucks about how slow it is if I had one lol
When you see a deLorean today, you think back to the future.
Someone dropped a LS6 v8 into a delorean that will definitely whip your head back
i saw that Regular Cars review. that DeLorean has potential for sure, once he gets a real transmission into it and not the factory stock one
one day someone will squeeze an ls1 in there.
nevermind its been done and its sweet
Someday.... Somebody will put a V12 in one of these things.
+Robus1022 I'm waiting for a Flat-6 swap
Needs the turbocharged Olds/Buick/Rover/TVR/Triumph/MG/Morgan/RevcoBrabham aluminum V8 ==> 5.2L... in fact, DeLorean should have bought that engine from Rover and added a turbo... The British Govt would have greased the skids for that transaction... The car would then have sold like hotcakes and still be in production...
I bet a Subaru WRX engine would fit pretty well.
Ah but does it have a Flux Capacitor?
It's a Peugeot engine.....Volvo had another one in the 740's in the mid to late 80's that was junk by them as well..
Milford Civic It's a Peugeot Renault and Volvo engine ... This engine was also in a Renault 25 and 30 and Peugeot put it a 604 and Volvo in the 240... That's where is stands for ... P-R-V ( Peugeot-Renault-Volvo )
MrClioMarcel
True, and at debut of this project, a 3.8L V8 was planed, but the petrol shock from 1974 who double the gas prices , who are still VERY HIGHT IN Europe, actual average ~1.55€/1 liter in France (near 8$ /US gallon), kill the project who was transformed in a smaller V6, with 90° bank angle (same as a V8)...this explain WHY only rich people (or fanatics) can drive a US car in Europe...and over this, in France a 8000€ "carbon tax" for all high emission cars like for ex. Chevrolet Camaro,Lada Niva (....),Porsche Cayenne, etc...
when we finally get the shop that converts our car from normal to flying, these deloreans gonna be worth millions xD
great video i love this car, what a masterpiece
delorean screwed himself and everyone that bought this car...they were priced higher than a corvette, with the balls of a chevette. and this was designed by the guy that spearheaded the GTO....step away from the coke mirror john
ur lame
maybe but still accurate
No way more coke!!!
But Mr. Delorean gets mad props from me for creating my Firebird. He worked for Pontiac back in the day.
No they cost $5000 less than a Corvette but yes crap compared to a vette..
Incoming horrible analogy:
Isn't wanting a Delorean with a big engine kind of like wanting a Miata with a big engine? I mean, that's not what it's for.
Leelee I mean there are Miata's with bigger engines, it's all a matter of customisation, and having your own car, your own way. There is no right and wrong. Just stock and modified.
I want a car for the speed and the Delorean for its unique styling. Putting a huge engine in that thing satisfies
Leelee it's not about a big engine but a fast one
You're saying Deloreans don't look like they should be fast?
An Offy 4-banger would be light and fast...
this dude is awesome, I wish more editors where this earnest ...
As long as it can go 88mph that's all that matters.
Cant the stock engines actually get it up to the time speed of 88mph?
+michael1234252 IDK, the speedometer only goes to 85... kinda disappointing actually.
+sergeantbigmac but you can replace it with a porsche engine (that engine was used in back to the future)
It should do 120 MPH with stock engine, but for the movie, they had to put numbers up to 90 MPH on the speedometer in place of the 85 max...
I'm just glad the blueprints and parts made it to this guy!! At least we could possibly even see brand spanking new cars from him! Not just factory fresh NOS!!
Must be some seriously bad gas in the US.. I mean, it went bad in just 6months ffs!
Its the ethanol thats put in our gas now. Its supposed to be better for the environment but it gives you less gas mileage and its bad for your car
Colby13 ... you must be really ignorant to blame the ethanol I drive a ethanol LSA engine and no issues here, just a tun and get the right pistons and gaskets and you are ready, the issue its that crappy build engine, a massive amount oil mixing with the gas... not good at all
SES10M you're comparing apples to oranges. that's a much older engine. and ethanol actually is the reason our gas goes bad that quickly. however, the problem it causes with engines is more likely from rubber fuel lines. because ethanol has a reaction with rubber that has poor effects on engines. can an engine survive ethanol fine? yes. do old engines do it well? no. does that make them bad? also no
SES10M An engine that's built for ethanol is going to drive just fine. Ethanol is a viable fuel alternative and it's good. The problem is putting ethanol in cars that aren't meant for ethanol. Bad things happen, like lower gas mileage, gas going bad, and gunking up the fuel injection system.
WeActOnImpulse Official Ethanol Always cones with lower gas milage, I use Ethanol E85 in my LS1 wich is a 1994 engine, you just need to set it up, but at the long term its cheaper and better, ethanol could help manufacturers like GM and Ford to avoid the CAFE law, yes the same rule that forced the new ZO6 to have a supercharger 6.2L instead of a 7L with direct injection or a V6 twin turbo instead of a v8, america will keep lossing its veloved v8s if they keep using regular gas.... and most Americans are ingorant about Ethanol and they think ethaon is made from food... or ethanol is bad for cars... they actually think ethanol price is higher than current gas, or ethanol polute same as regular gas... ethanol is the perfect future for combustion engines, but people are so ignorant and blind by companies to see it,
Dude he even has a flux capacitor.
How i love this beauty on wheels
Why the hell didnt the guy who owns the car at least tune it up and clear out all the old gas before the show??
The reason its meant for 88mph
I liked the episode. When real world problems happen makes it more interesting.
Anyone else notice the flux capacitor at 4:46?
What professional specialist mechanic leaves a customer car sitting for 6 months with gas in it? Or was it at the customer's house?
I was thinking the same thing
+hal900x It's the mechanics customer's car, so the customer who left it sitting in his garage and didn't stabilize the fuel is the idiot.
moe123niner If you watch the video though, it sounds like the car has been in the mechanic's possession the whole time. That was a question in my post actually. With cars like these it is often a wealthy person that leaves the car with the specialist, and that seems to be the case here.
+hal900x Gotta ask why have that work done if you're just going to leave it sitting anyway.
Medial Fluxocity RIch collectors. They are poison....driving up prices on classics so us average joes have no chance. Fuck Barret-Jackson and their ilk.
I remember when I was a kid and saw Back to The Future for the first time. I just fell in love with this car. The style, those doors, the sound, and that it could time travel was kool too, This car made that movie.
If it had a Hemi instead of that Grand National motor it wouldn't need a Flux Capacitor to travel through time!.
Joshua Edward yea if it had a hemi it wouldn't run at all 🤣
Kris King It will run but not with YOU
its not really even a grand national engine. it's a shitty volvo engine
The Buick Grand National V6 is the '60 - '63 Buick aluminum hemi V8 with 2 cylinders lopped off, made of iron, and a turbo added... (Olds offered it in V8 form with a turbo in 1961 ua-cam.com/video/iieDedNEYuI/v-deo.html )
I'm disappointed. I thought we would see the world's fastest DeLorean with a stock DeLorean engine. Anyone can swap in a Buick GNX engine but is it still a DeLorean? I say no.
Still a DeLorean... with an engine nearer to what it should have came with... The turbo Olds/Buick V8...
ua-cam.com/video/iieDedNEYuI/v-deo.html
John, you are my hero. Thank you for keeping the dream alive. I loved this car even before I saw it move, for those not impressed by performance (I am usually) it looks just so cool and came out of nowhere (will check out what Kleavers is saying) . . Yes, I know it sounds weird, but it just looked so right. I won't be back here, so trolls don't bother flaming me (sic) or whatever it's called, it joined my most favourite (yes I am English) list of good looking machines. Concord, Spitfire, DeHavilland Rapid and Super Constellation, Willis Jeep etc. Along with a few Jaguars and couple of Rolls Royce's and their amazing engines. TTFN. Ian
i would put a nissan r35gtr engine in this machine, then i would go to the year 2020
Johnathan Commodore
12 yr old spotted
Johnathan Commodore VR38DETTs are absolute shit. Put something like a BMW M10 or M12
why I hate turbos. NA nitrous all day.
while nitro is cheaper you cant maintain nitro anytime you want to race while a turbo is always working plus without the right type of materials your whole engine block can corrode and catch up in flames in an instant if you push it a little too hard and most people if they want a fast car don't want to have a lot of the front end parts made of stainless steel just to use nitro without killing there car
The car was running so crappy, it probably never even got a chance to make any boost. It didn't sound like the turbos spooled up at all.
Cool car!
Anyone know the music from 8:07? Thanks
+Ke Lanzhi unfortunately no :( but if u find out let me know
+Alin Mihai sure! would let you know if i find out.
Lmao, that random flux capacitor at 4:07. Gotta love it :)
Dude the DeLorean is the best car on the road to date, Ok?
Fancy Man The handling is bad with the stock engine, but it looks nice
I take that as a challenge. So I accept it. What's the best handling car you know of right now? Tell me And I will race it and beat it with all stock shite in it, ok?
Fancy Man I'd like to see it outhandle a Lotus Elise...
Raven1024 I accept that challenge with gravy.
Why do so many of these car guys have insanely douchey facial-hair styles?
Douch = masculine extroversion
Cars runs on money = masculine
You must not be able to grow a beard lmao
I love this car and thus tuned version is exciting :)
I would really love to see a modern take of this iconic car.
Made a new hose today for this car, it is still looking fine as hell. The owner of the delorean is a really cool guy
You guys just earned a new subscriber!
Got this in my recommended
Glad I clicked it
There's always been a DMC service shop in Houston. Been that way for years.... It used to be on the West side of Houston, now it's located in Humble, TX just north and outside of Houston.
Fiero GT V6, Triumph TR7 , Fiat X19, Toyota MR2, or Delorean. Which would you pick?
The only DeLorean that can legitimately hit 88 MPH without needing mods to the speedometer
I would love to own a Delorean. It is one of my dream cars.
The magic bullet for bosch L-jetronic CIS fuel injection is Chevron's "Techron" fuel system cleaner it is usually sold at most chain autoparts (Kragen, Checkers, Shucks, Advanced)
Hey Matt,
Have you tried to find the Delorean with a 2JZ motor swap?
I think that one was running pretty well in the videos posted on UA-cam.
the new car deserves a new stock motor design ... this is one of the best car designs ever made and stands out to this day
That car really brings me back
Its a legendary car! I will buy this one day insha'Allah!
The PRV engine was not found in the VOLVO 240, but in the VOLVO 260
Great Scott, it broke down. Call AAA !!!
1:51 The Flux Capacitor on the bench behind him, awesome! :-)
Forgive my lack or auto knowledge-- Does or would the standard DeLorean frame and suspension have the strength to handle a truly powerful engine?
The PRV engine is the exact same engine used in the Lancia Thema and the LMP1: the same car that holds the record for being the fastest around the Le Mans track "Circuit de la Sarthe", in France.
Cool video but Don is not the only certified DeLorean mechanic working in the US today. Philip Karam of Selective Automotive is a certified DeLorean mechanic in Hallandale Florida is currently restoring a DeLorean for a client.
THE DRIVE--i agree with you 100%. i would keep it as stock as DMC possibly (aside for the t/turbo exhaust upgrade) The world doesn't need another tool in a BTTF mod. Don is quite likeable.
Fab video love the dmc cars hope they start making them with a few upgrades
There's another dealership/ maintenance shop in Houston Texas called DMC. They actually acquired the remaining parts that are still from the factory.
Back in the 80ties I worked for Terminx in Pasadena. A doctor had a DeLorean and his daugther's let me look at it. They said when he bought it, he took it and had "two turbos put on it". I remember looking at it and the girls said he did not drive it much it was too fast. This same Dr. had a 4 or 5 car garage and had some very expensive cars in it.
John DeLorean, the man with the strong jaw and strong ideas
Please go back and try this again once they've got it working properly :)
you are all hating on this when this man is just building his dreams!
