Love your channel Renee. My aunt Lavina Sollars and her husband Wilbur lived in Lincoln Park (which is a subdivision of Detroit) and you remind me of her. When making cabbage rolls, wrap your cabbage in plastic wrap and freeze overnight (or longer). When you want to make your rolls place the frozen cabbage in your sink to thaw. The leaves will be soft and ply able and you never have to steam or cut out the core again. I am 74 years old and make cabbage rolls often. Never steamed again after a friend shared this tip with me.
Hi Renea I put my cabbages whole in the freezer for a few days before making cabbage rolls ...the leaves just come right off and you don't burn your hands ..I love this method ..easy😊❤️

I do too. Plus your not loosing the nutrients of the cabbage. Just allow a lot of time to thaw.

Three outstanding recipes. I am a single senior and learned to make large recipes from my mother and grandmother. I can scale down these recipes and make 2-3 serving containers for my freezer. Perfect time for cabbage this week. Love your new stove. I feel like I am in your kitchen when you are cooking. You seem like a terrific grandma.
We do our cabbage the same as you in the freezer!!!... We use Tomato Juice when cooking them in a big black roaster!!!...We don't mix any sauce in our meat...

Hi Renae. This takes me back to my Mother's kitchen (RIP Mommy)--she made the best ever cabbage rolls! Her secret was that she added a layer of sauerkraut on the bottom of her casserole dishes and used a brown sugar-sweetened tomato juice sauce. Never had cabbage lasagna. Thank you for the memories.

Wow, I've never heard of cabbage lasagna, boy it sounds yummy! You're so gracious to share those gifts of food! ❤ I love making Golumpki. My maternal great-grandparents were from Poland. I also make fried cabbage, onion, and beef kielbasa served with homemade kluski noodles. So good!
Mine were from Poland as well. I remember golumpki. My husband makes it really well. We also make Haluski(chopped cabbage, onion, ham) and fry it up and serve over noodles. Yummy!

Hey Renea! Your stove looks like ‘my’ dream! I loved cooking on gas… it makes canning so much easier to keep the pressure regulated! A very much deserved purchase!! By the way, I’m a Renae copycat… I always kept my fingernails cut short, because I was always into something on the farm, but I let them grow and painted them! Dear Renae , I’ve got to let you know that I asked my daughter to help me find the proof of my buying the cookbook. She searched in my e mails and my debit account . Great video! We serve our Golumpki(cabbage rolls) with mashed or boiled potatoes and a tomato sauce gravy.
The Silver Fox also uses a vegetable peeler to shave down the rib after the cabbage has been steamed.
We serve mashed potatoes with ours also

If you freeze your cabbage head and then let it thaw, you can easily peel off all the wilted leaves and bypass the boiling step.
I've made cabbage rolls. they keep well in freezer, if you don't eat them up right away!! heheh SISU and Sweden! NUM!

I'm so glad to see the low carb ideas. I've been living a low carb life since April 2021 and have lost 85 pounds. I also incorporate Intermittent Fasting to help keep my Diabetes numbers lower. I've been able to just take a maintenance dose of Metformin now, and my A1C is at 5.2. I have made the lasagna using cabbage as well as using zucchini. Both are so yummy.

She brought back some amazing recipes. Your cabbage rolls are so similar to the recipe she brought back and shared with me.i make my cabbage rolls usually in January and I make about 75 to 80. These are my absolutely my favorite dish, I believe. I would really would like if you would share your (your or your Mother's) lazy cabbage roll casserole with us. This casserole would be good for the summer time as the oven wouldn't be on too long. I'm going to try your cabbage roll lasagna tomorrow, never heard of that

The spoons on the range hood-my daughter got me a set of those-I didn’t think about putting them on the hood 😂-I doubt you neglected those babies-they just missed your food-mine will call and ask if they can randomly stay all night cause they want good food-what a treasure on the gift from your neighbor

When I make my breakfast burritos I use the dehydrated potatoes in the box (kinda looks like a half & half box) I find they work really well too.

I'm back to 50% Finnish the video. I told the cook at work about low carb Cabbage lasagna, he looked at me like WHAT?!?!. My Dad had diabetes, he took the Lantus mostly, and Novolog. I saw him bad a few times, clammy, sweaty. It's scary.
Cabbage rolls Yum Yum. My Slovak mother-in-law prepared her cabbage the same way i.e. put it in hot water for a few minutes and she trimmed the rib just like you did, Her sauce was different & she used both ground beef & ground pork & put she put additional tomato sauce over the rolls & Sauerkraut over top.
I’ve worked in restaurants for years (73 and still working in one) and years ago a wonderful older Slovak woman taught me to use tomato sauce and sauerkraut…so delicious ❤️
@@patriciahamer419 hi yes my mother-in-law was a wonderful cook and my husband was a great cook. Another thing is my mother-in-law always used a lot of fresh garlic in her cabbage rolls well really in anything she cooked.
