In CJ or Criminology, you definitely have to "think outside of the box." As she stated, it's not ONLY policing, parole/probation, lawyer, etc. Any agency that deals w/ behavioral health and law, certain court jobs like court case managers, background checks/Investigations, beahvioral intake/assessment coordinator, park and ranger jobs, fire/arson, vehicular/accident claims investigator, investigation, victims advocate or counselor, legal aids, addiction counseling, etc. There are so many areas to choose from.
I had to pin this because you are correct. There are so many opportunities in this field outside of the typical careers.
@@MercadezMichelle I'm honored 😊 thank you. I actually work in a mental health treatment court. Much of what I do involves assessing and documenting to ensure that the client/defendant is compliant w/ their treatment program which helps to reduce recidivism. It's a great profession.
@@bj5son1 hi! You’re comment made me feel a little more at ease. Just made one full year with a BS in Criminology and unsure of what to do next. Your job sounds interesting. Were you able to be hired with just a BS?
@@tiannab8040 yes and no. Yes, w/ a bachelors and 2 yrs experience and no, they also advertised the position for an Associates w/ 4 years experience. Hope this makes sense 🤔
@@bj5son1 Can I ask what experience did you have that qualified?
I changed my major to criminal justice last fall because I realized I didn’t want to major in Hospitality. I’m liking criminal Justice and I’m willing to know more about this program of study.
Great video. I double majored BA in Criminal Justice & Economics. I worked in the Criminal Justice System for 20 years, former State of Colorado Juvenile Probation Officer & Legal Researcher, I worked 10 years in K-12 Education former Teacher, Restorative Justice Coordinator and Dean of Students both middle & high school.
I have been a Certified Paralegal since 1984, I got my Paralegal certification in the United States Marine Corps 1984-1988. I was a Paralegal working at USMC Office of the Staff Judge Advocate!!!
I have been blessed my entire life and raised four adult daughters. I got accepted to law school but passed, which was a great decision. Blessings, sis!!!
I have a BS in Criminal Justice and a BA in Psychology, and this combo of education has made job hunting so much fun 😀
What are your career options please,
@@ronniellewilliams2306 pretty much anything at this point. Now, I work full time at a halfway house helping inmates transition back home. Cool gig.
@@natemotivation8523 I’m going to double majoring in human services and Psychology. Are my career options similar
If u wanted to work with children with these two degrees what could u choose ?
@@samanthacorte4728 case manager, group home manager, lots of jobs. I can also become a cop.
First Time looking at your channel. In my second semester for my B.S. Criminal Justice. Starting now to see what is my “right niche”. Thanks for the video 🙂
Been having trouble with my BS in Criminal Justice. This video help THANKS!
My babygirl starting college this weekend! 🥳 I asked her what’s her major and she said criminal justice and I’m still trying to figure out wtf she going to school for lol. Now I see there’s a lot of choices
This was a great video! I graduated may 2020 and I’m still trying to find a job in Criminology- I also double majored in Sociology. And I recently relocated to Dallas so low key struggling with this job thing but I’m going try out these tips.
I hope it helps! There are a lot of jobs out here in the DFW area right now. Good luck
exact same lol
Have you found one yet?
Im in the exact same situation I graduated in 2020 and I’m still struggling to find a job they all want experience but how I’m i gonna get it if i can’t get the job.
@@brennaruano2486 you all are my people. I’ve been struggling for a long time trying to find a job
I enjoyed watching this! Thank you Michelle!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really informative and helpful! Thank you for sharing your video!
Thank you for watching!
Great video I graduated May 2021 with a criminal Justice and criminally degree. It has been officially a year. I have been worn out with applying for jobs and applying for jobs not even in my field or feeling like I have to settle because no one will give me an opportunity to At least start *entry level* . they see no experience but a degree and don’t respond to me or decline me by saying no thank you … so thank you for this video for more help!
That’s me right now, you need experience but you can’t get experience. I’m looking into banks now and it’s still even hard to get lol. Don’t give up we got this
@@johnnymcarr no seriously! They always tell me at interviews that they want someone with experience... like why even make me come in for an interview??? My last interview I said how am I gonna get experience when no one will allow me to get that and they kind of mocked me and said I should volunteer to get experience lmao
Hey ! So you can get into DEA, FBI,
They want experience but they want people who are clean, basically not coming from a law enforcement background so they can mold you.
We are in the same boat to know others are experiencing this problem is shocking !
Girl omg I feel you 100% on this and it’s really discouraging. Thanks for making me feel like I’m not alone! Good luck with your job hunting!🤞🏽

hello luv thank you for this info... because i am a teacher her in fl and it sucks we are very much under paid for all the bs and many different roles we as teacher have to play... i have my BA in CJ and am working on my master... yet i'm stuck teaching kids that can care less about life or education.....
Thank you for the new information.
I graduated in may 2020, right at the peak of the pandemic lol. There were no jobs for that whole 2020-21 year and I just felt devastated, I honestly lost my love/interest for CJ. I had been interning at NJ’s state police dept right before the pandemic. I couldn’t find jobs and people wouldn’t even give me a chance because I had no experience. It really sucks if I’m being honest. But now, 2 years after graduating, I’m trying to get back into it and see where I can just get in. I’ve been so confused these 2 years feeling like I wasted 4 years of college for nothing at times. I’m noticing I want to be involved with cyber crime but I’m hoping I don’t need a CS for that since I’m CJ :( this video game across at a perfect time for myself, to remind me that I do want to find something in the field. I hope all us CJ majors end up doing what they love in this field, as it can be very very tough. Blessings to all.
NJ State police is hiring now !! 💯
I graduated in 2018/19 . I'm now 47. We had a fatal fire and then covid. I'm exhausted trying to find a job
In the same boat..I graduated in late 2019 with a BS in Investigative Forensics and im still trying to find a job in this field..employers need to give people without experience a chance!
Really good video thank you so much Queen
This is so helpful! I'm here in Houston
Glad it was helpful my fellow Texan.
Very Helpful Information!!! Thinking about getting my Masters Degree in Criminal Justice this Fall 2022
I’m doing the same for this spring 2022.

Would you need to go to law school afterwards to get a good criminal justice job? Or would that just be more for lawyers and other law based careers?
You also have to take age into consideration. Some criminal justice related jobs have an age requirement. It’s not like a business degree
Don’t know if I missed it but where would you look for this jobs like where online or job sites
How are you doing? Security/crime prevention/loss prevention/private detectives/alarm monitoring etc. Is most important in my opinion to help keep everyone safe and has the most income potential. Safety is key. Im undecided whether to enroll in a criminal justice program or security management type like homeland security. What do you recommend? Im highly trained already in security/basic criminal justice. Take care, thanks.
OMG Your lashes are everything!!!! what brand are they/where r they from?
I don’t know the exact style name but they are Miss Lash yellow/gold and black package at the beauty supply
I just retired from the Army after 20 years and now I have received my Master's in criminology with an emphasis in Homeland Security give me some advice as to what's out there for me and what Avenue is approach should I pursue just where to start with this degree.
A few of my friends retired army and went homeland security and i can tell you that they make 80+ per year and more when they go on assignment. And she’s right, there are more jobs out there.
Im thinking of switching from early childhood education to criminal justice but I am not sure if I want to do a BA in Criminology and crime analysis or forensic psychology 😭
What do you do for work if you don’t mind me asking
So useful 🙂 thank you so much
Thank you for watching!
Thank You.
I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from an upper-tired university. Unfortunately, it's not a valuable degree. It's not competitive except for jail guard or entry-level office work. I do not recommend this curriculum. Anyone thinking it relates to law school is sadly wrong.
I am taking class as well how lawyer as well
As a non-immigrant what are the job opportunities available after you acquire a masters program in criminal justice
New on there's and learning more I am doing it's all on my own learning a about the law
This journey started with me wanting to be a lawyer when I was a little girl. However, I got specific with my passion for the law as I got older and wanted to help children in the system because they still had hope in my eyes to get on the right track. Now my goal is still the same but I want to help children before they even become apart of the system and implement structure, goals and opportunities into their life before the system ever gets ahold of them. Figure out your purpose and then your why and put them together to get to your end goal.
@@MercadezMichellethis really hit hard for me. I absolutely agree, what job can you get with that type of goal? I’m majoring in criminal justice rn
50k for barely seeing family is definately not ideal:/
I’m going to do Associate Criminal Justice Soon and my height is 4’09 can i still be a police officer? If not can i still work inside the police department ? I’m really interested in this job! Can someone help me out please? Thank you in advance
as an undergraduate student still undecided, even though that idk what i wanna do later on, in terms of careers, is it recommended to pick the major of criminal justice? i need some opinions plz
If you are unsure I would say focus on your pre reqs… I understand it’s still hard to decide on a Major but focus on things you enjoy and see what degree aligns with those things investigation work, surveillance, helping people etc…
@@MercadezMichelle well i do see myself helping people. i don’t see a problem with that
I don't wanan be no cop or anything like that. But I gotta bachelors degree. Any ideas?
I want to get into this field but don't want to be an officer but i would like to work in the administrative part of it any recommendations or what kind of degree i should be going for ?
Public administration or political science. You can minor and major in criminal justice as well.
I do have a question and I don't know how to start
Ööö ok I understand you are doing a good job
So having a criminal justice degree isn't enough
I have learning difficulties can I still become a cop with ADHD and short term memory or memory loss I also failed my exam at the police department because of head injury
I can not give a definite answer but don't allow these things to deter you from your goals. I believe they're maybe avenues you just have to speak to the right people in the department.
How did you know what's career for you and why
Yes I would love ❤️ 😍 💖 to do scam
I’m getting burnt out in the medical field, I’m looking to change over to criminal justice
Same with me! I started school for cj this fall
Don’t do it! It’s a waste of a degree
Let me know if you changed or not I’m considering computer science but may go into criminal justice
What are some good criminal justice jobs for just out of college every time I try and Google this I get answers like FBI agent and other things like that but you can't just start out as an FBI agent I'm looking for entry level jobs
Is my dream too to be FBI but for that you also need 2 year experience, you can apply to private security maybe, or 911 attending calls, thats my plan
It's a lie, that's what google shows you. With CJ you can work in a prison, parole/probation, or law enforcement. A criminal justice degree won't get you to Quantico, there are other steps to complete to be an FBI, and its the same for CIA, paralegal, detectives, forensics, they are part of the criminal justice field but these are totally different careers, and I know this because I'm about to graduate and had different meetings with counselors and I already asked for forensics and paralegal and cannot do it, not like in the movies
Hi I’m Soni!
Have you guys been able to find a job in your career field?
My son just graduated CJ and applied to 50 jobs in indeed etc and nothing yet !! ☹️
I am there's and there's always be lawyer
Government will always pay...but it comes with a cost😏
New on there's
Can you become a paralegal with an Associate's in Criminal Justice?
A paralegal certification would be better. However, it is possible to get in at the entry level with CJ
my sister has an associates in criminal justice and is a paralegal!
No, you need to take paralegal studies, I already asked. I'm about to get my bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and they said I need paralegal studies if I want to get hired as paralegal, yeap, the whole thing is confussing
an associate degree can get you some entry level jobs in CJ, but it can't do much for you, that's why I did my bachelor, even with a bachelor it's kind of tricky, getting a job, it's not like in the movies.
@@taliarodriguez7711 OMG really? I may as well get my Bachelor's Degree in CJ and just enter lawschool
Is criminal justice Worth It ? 💯
I have many question forc you
I am there's to learn a about law
I am new on there's
Paralegal is a good job for this degree also
I'm about to graduate (bachelor in CJ) I spoked to my counselor and told me I can't be a paralegal with a criminal justice major, that's why they have paralegal studies as a course, it's like a totally separate career. They told me the same with forensics, apparently, correctional officer is the only thing you can do with CJ
@@taliarodriguez7711 My sister has a AA in criminal justice and is working as a Paralegal
Do you still feel the same way now
I’ll make an updated video soon. Cause this answer is yes and no
I am studying a career but it's not easy but that's what I do
100 100 100 100
Never say a police officer needs a bachelors degree please.....all departments need a high school 😂 unless for a detective position but still that position will also need experience. Detention and police officers just high school. If you watch videos and reports you will realize that most police officers are ignorants.
My county specifically requires a minimum of 60 semester hours which is an associates degree so no not just a high school diploma. & I do believe I stated you don’t even need a degree to be a police officer or correction officer but these days they are “leaning” more towards those with a degree.
I want to know about the damn certificate what is this 3 minutes intro all about the uploader necessary for lol
There is no mention of a certificate in this video. Have a nice day!
