Hey y’all! In today’s video I am giving a quick overview of many different types of lawyers and practice areas of law. This video is good for anyone who is still unsure about what types of lawyer they want to be or if you’re just curious about what different types of lawyers there are. There are SO MANY different areas of law so by no means is this list comprehensive but it does cover some of the more popular general areas of law. If any of these types of law strike you as interesting, I would encourage you to look more into that practice area so you can see if it’s right for you!

I'm a family law lawyer. I can confirm there is some really interesting drama, haha. Also that movie, A Marriage Story - it was like watching a client's life on screen. The movie is spot on.

I’m fourteen and I am so caught between Criminal Law (I really want to be a public defender haha), Environmental Law, and Business Law. I’m trying to get a presidential scholarship to the school I want to get my undergrad at so I don’t have any student debt by the time I get to grad school, so I’m already working towards 4.0 GPA over my whole high school career and at least a 30 on my ACT, because I really, really want to do this.

That is amazing! Just be sure that when you do go into school for your undergrad, you maintain your GPA and study for LSATs to be able to get into a top 14 school. Do any major you want as you long as you maintain those!

I’m also fourteen and I’m a freshman rn and I wanna do either transactional or criminal law but I’m leaning more towards criminal law.

I want to be a lawyer but still be able to enjoy life and travel. Would you recommend any types?
Probably would be more so where you work rather than type. A firm that is ok with remote work or your own law firm. If you are a litigator and have to go to court, it will be a bit less flexible but you still could probably manage it

I suppose, if you work in international law field, you might have to travel to different places (but obviously for the working reasons).

just keep in mind that u can be a lawyer with a nursing bachelors degree but u cant be a nurse with a political science degree
I’ve been told to major in something you can get really good grades in or if you change your mind some you can get a job in if you decide against law school

I love criminal law. I’m a paralegal currently but I think I want to be a criminal defense attorney. You have a lot of time to make a decision but do some research into the criminal justice system and you might just become as interested as I am.

Immigration law interests me. Right now my dad is going through some legal troubles because of his visa and I don't want any foreign families to be torn apart because of paperwork.

I get asked this a lot and I was checking to see if a similar video had been made. Great video. I have gone from cooperate law to Family and General Civil Litigation. My huge percentage of my clients are companies but I don't deal with financial matters that are regulated. This was a great share.

Hi there, I kinda set that law was my preferred career when I was 4 years old. I wasn't sure what kind of law but I knew it would be law related. I'm in high school, law has always been an interest of mine. This video has detailed everything i want to know about different careers in law and the types. Corporate law my interest. I was inspired by this tv series "Suits" i feel in love with the characters Harvey Spector and Jessica Pearson portrait such a strong figure in corporate law and their bad ass attitude ✨. Thank you for breaking this down, I don't know why they don't teach you this in hs or college, I'm done college now and I assumed I would learn this in law school. Even the LSAT was mystifying to me. I've been confused and scared to take it for 10+ years. The anxiety is extreme. Wish me well, I wish you girl all the best

This video was helpful! I’m currently in undergrad working as a paralegal and I have always been interested in criminal law. I have been considering going to law school but I know I don’t want to make court appearances and I know if I want to work in criminal law, that will be nearly impossible so I have a lot of thinking to do. Hey just an FYI, you can pursue both a J.D and an M.D with certain University/Law schools. Another way you could incorporate both is Medical Law. Hope this helps 💜

Do you have any recommendations on which type of law has the best work/family balance? I'm starting my first year of law school this upcoming fall but I don't want to go into a field of law that keeps me away from family and traveling. I'm considering real estate or environmental maybe? Which area of law is best to work remotely or is at least flexible? (I'm also not big into doing litigation.)
