The gear selector rod you briefly tickle @04:49 in the video, shouldn`t that go through the frame and not in front of it? The only reason I ask is; That is one of my favourite features of the 1999 Yamaha YZF R1. Sorry, I seem to be all over your channel at the moment but, I am truly interested in this motorcycle. I used to own the 2015 60th anniversary ~ Kenny Roberts replica R1 but sadly the ABS failed on me and I ended up throwing it down the road. Now, I ride the 1997 Yamaha YZF1000R ~ Thunderace in Vivid red cocktail and blueish white colour scheme, similar to your stunningly beautiful R1. Awesome machines... 8500rpm is where the fun starts. 🤟🤪 Please, for the love of all that`s motorcycling, get your Go-Pro chin mounted on your helmet, get a sound mod and let us see and hear more of this beautiful classic actually being ridden. Take it easy and enjoy the ride. Best wishes from the Lone Wolf in the lakes. 🕊
Great looking bike. Truth is, today’s most modern R1 can only best a 1987 FZR1000 1/4 mile time by about 7/10ths of a second, all other things being equal. 0-60 for the 87 FZR was about 3 seconds and it’s about 2.8 for the 2020 R1. Nearly 40 years and that’s all you get. I’d rather ride something like yours knowing full well that a cheap buzz goes a long way. And honestly, I think your bike looks better than anything sold today.
Hey Man! love your videos but i think we need some riding videos of you and this beautiful Bike! get yourself a helmetz cam and just record. i bet it would be incredible. Hope to someday see some of this!
I found your channel while looking up how to bleed the clutch on my 93 FJ1200 over here in the States (I would also love to find a mint Gen 1 R1 one day). I went to Japan and proposed to my fiancé while in Aomori this past May. Definitely going again. Do you have any experience renting motorcycles in Japan as a foreigner? Would love to ride in Japan next time I go. Got to get use to riding on the wrong side of the road lol.
Since you're the only active account, still reviewing these wonderful glorious legendary bikes, I recently picked one up. It's running pretty smooth, but I noticed that it doesn't read a extremely high temperature, but the engine gets warm enough that the frame is hot. Is that normal? Cuz I've never experienced it on any of my bikes that are 20 years old

I think hé reversed his shift pattern. Then the rod is brought to the outside.
@@roybm3124 GP shifting... didn`t think of that. Thanks. :)

The original R1s like yours always get serious attention in the UK, they are that good.
As a 2002 5JJ R1 owner / rider, I too can thoroughly recommend ownership.
